justice department indicted twelve russian intelligence agents on charges of meddling in the twenty sixteen presidential campaign the two leaders had more than a two hour one on one meeting talking about everything we're told from trade to military to missiles and china president trump first congratulated put in for the successful organization of the world cup and said he hopes for a fresh start with russia i think we have a great opportunity for together to to thank you thank you we have not been getting along very well with the if you like that here not too long that it's getting close to two years but i think you think you're going to get been saying and i'm sure you've heard over the years and there's a campaign that getting along with russia is a good thing that i think but the russian president didn't give away much on what to expect from his meeting with donald trump take a listen closely in the context continue over recent months we've spoken on the

phone and seen each other at various international event but of course it's time to discuss pearlie our bilateral relations and various hotspots in the world there's quite a few of them so we need to focus on them. and we are awaiting for a news conference between the two leaders very shortly it is about to happen in fact as the two leaders are walking to the podium there after their first one on one meeting since donald trump took office they have met on the sidelines of the g. twenty gathering in hamburg germany before but again this was their first one on one private encounter we understand that they met for over two hours and then their respective teams got together for lunch and they held more talks we are all of course waiting to hear what they talked about and what they agreed on possibly but nothing has filtered yet i want to let you know and we are of course waiting for this news conference in her sink in we'll bring it to you live as it happens here

on al-jazeera i want to bring in our senior political analyst marwan bashar who is live in london watching this we've been talking to you all day marwan we've heard that north formal agenda was set for this meeting between trump and putin no major agreements expected to be signed no deal is expected so what was a point of all this. well clearly when the meeting was first announced it was only two weeks ago there's absolutely no time within two weeks to produce anything though of interest no time for working groups to meet and no time to set up an agenda certainly not time to agree on the principles of something like a nuclear proliferation treaty i think the point there are two issues here one issue is that i think president trump in particular wanted to meet president putin and see as they say in america they wanted to size him up they wanted to look into

his eyes if you trust him doesn't trust emotional support that's of course if you trust the trump camp if you don't you would say that he's meeting with him for two hours because there is complicity between the american on the russian presidents and they don't want to get into these official documents what they need to know it all to do is to strategize between two best friends now there's also that one possibility that the two meet at this point in time as an introductory meeting in order to agree on the. macro guidelines if you will of what is and is not possible because at this point in time forty it's very difficult under the circumstances for trump to be able to promise putin anything particular because congress isn't really of him and against and you're operational with russia i thought earlier mar one of the two leaders were actually about to walk out and give that news conference but that hasn't happened yet as you can see on these live pictures not happening and in fact a protester that seems holding

a longer process but we have taken the first steps toward a brighter future and one with a strong dialogue. and a lot of thought our expectations are grounded in realism but our hopes are grounded in americans desire for friendship cooperation and peace and i think i can speak on behalf of russia when i say that also. president putin i want to thank you again for joining me for these important discussions and for advancing open dialogue between russia and the united states our meeting carries on a long tradition of diplomacy between russia the united states for the greater good of all and this was a very constructive day this was a very constructive few hours that we spent together. it's in the interest of both

that the appropriate commission headed by. by. a special torney mover he can use this treaty as a solid foundation and send the formal and official request to us. so that we would interrogate only to hold the questioning of these individuals who he believes are previewed to some crimes and i will inforce meant. perfectly able to do this questioning and sand the appropriate materials to the united states. moreover. we can meet you halfway we can make another step. well we can actually term it official representatives of the united states including the members of this very commission headed by mr miller we can lead them into the country and they will be present of this questioning but in this case there is a there is another condition and this kind of effort should be

and other places ok thank you. yes we did mention the us we mentioned the humanitarian track. of this issue. yesterday i discussed this with french president mr mccrone and we reached an agreement that together with european countries including france will step up this effort on our behalf we'll provide military cargo aircraft to deliver humanitarian cargo and today i brought up this issue with president trump i think there is plenty of things to to look into. the crucial thing here is that the huge amount of refuges are in turkey in lebanon in jordan in the states that border jason to syria if we help them help them migrate three pressure upon
