or was. just the. gunman stormed a government building and detonated a suicide bomb in iraq's kurdish region. hello i'm adrian finighan this is al jazeera live from doha also coming up donald trump issues an angry warning to iran never ever threaten the u.s. again. china's child vaccine scandal premier league warns of severe punishments to companies that make some standard drugs for children. an iceberg endangering an entire township we report from the remote place in greenland living in fear of a natural one or.
12:01 pm
two gunmen who stormed the kurdish regional government building in a bill in northern iraq have reportedly been killed witnesses say that one of the attackers blew himself up security forces have been firing into the third floor of the building where at least one other gunman is thought to be still at large let's go live out of baghdad as soon as imran khan is following developments in iran what's the latest. well i can tell you that all three assailants have now been either killed or captured as a result of the kurdish security forces raid on the a bill governor building one of them blew himself up in a suicide attack another was killed by a sniper a third was captured but is said to be wounded so the attack is now officially over curity forces say that they have to go into the building and they had to search room to room to room to try and find the silence what there was a hostage that was taken the hostage is also been released. now the investigation
12:02 pm
begins what would have been the motive for this attack who might have carried it out well according to the mayor of to build this was an isolated attack and it certainly does bear all the hallmarks of an i still attacking suicide bomb multiple gunmen but we haven't had that kind of jet like i say it's a tactic the arsenal of used many times in the past in the kurdish security forces they'll be the ones that confirm whether it is i saw or not the senate kurdish politicians all pointing the finger it's a very unusual attack for the region o.b.l. has been spared much of the violence that the rest of the country has seen in the war against the last attack that was in two thousand and fifteen when there was a car bomb outside of the you know it's a sort of the u.s. consulate building so it's been a fairly safe area so already questions are being asked how would the gunman be able to get into such a heavily fortified and protected building they went in at seven am in the morning
12:03 pm
before the business day began they wounded one of the security guards so already questions of you know how they were getting in and like you say the investigation is beginning we're expecting to hear from the governor of erbil later on in the day whole have more details then possibly who those attackers actually iran many thanks indeed observation on connor porting live from baghdad. the u.s. and iranian president's have been trading threats the rhetoric escalated on sunday when iran's leader hassan rouhani warned the u.s. against playing with what he called the lion's tail in an angry response trump want against threatening the u.s. shallot palace reports with television as their platform a ratcheting up of thrifts between iran's president hassan rouhani and the trumpet ministration on sunday secretary of state mike compare spend a full twenty six minutes criticizing rouhani and his leadership the ayatollah are in on the act to judging by their vast well they say more concerned with riches
12:04 pm
than religion these hypocritical holy men advice all kinds of cricket's games to become some of the wealthiest men on earth while their people suffer the u.s. administration is attacking iran from multiple angles in may president trump withdrew from the twenty fifteen nuclear chord in august he will reimpose sanctions aimed at crippling iran's economy pompei are warned tehran its exports will be squeezed in the coming months and is pressuring allies to stop importing iranian oil by november its biggest source of income and now the us administration is seizing on process in iran to begin a media campaign president rouhani referred to the strategy and threaten trump against turning his people against him but doma shootable as you know pretty much don't play with the lion's tail you will regret it forever you cannot carry out these measures it is out of your capability you cannot force during ins to act against their own country you have clearly shown you are against the iranian people
12:05 pm
. those comments got this response from president trump who tweeted in capital laces never ever threaten the united states again or you will suffer consequences the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered before we're no longer a country that will stand for your demented words of violence and death be cautious . you tweet is a flashback to trump and north korean leader kim jong il on kim was also at the wrong end of a new caps tirade last year for the two leaders came together at a summit in singapore in june. but the difference with iran is protests the soaring cost of living has pushed iranians to the streets numbers not seen since twenty twelve but analysts say a media campaign to win them over will be received as u.s. propaganda i think it's quite clear that as much as they are frustrated and deeply frustrated with the government of iran they're not jumping onto trump side anytime
12:06 pm
soon from california to tehran the high stakes verbal sparring will be watched by its target audience the iranian people shall of dallas al-jazeera a senior commander in iran's revolutionary guard said that trump's tweet amounts to psychological warfare he says that iran will never abandon its revolutionary beliefs despite pressure from the u.s. the same bus ravi reports from tehran. we've seen in the days since donald trump pulled the united states out of the twenty fifty nuclear deal with more sanctions looming large first in august then again in november iranian leaders are becoming more and more aggressive in their tone and we're hearing more consistent public speeches in which they criticize the u.s. unilateral decision to pull out of the nuclear deal and reinstate sanctions what is also at the center of this escalation in the war of words is a statement made by the president in a recent visit to switzerland iranian president hassan rouhani on
12:07 pm
a diplomatic trip made a vague threat against the strait of hormuz saying that it would be unrealistic to expect that if iran can't sell its own oil that everybody else still can so we're seeing iranian leaders backed into a corner at every turn trying to secure their own economy against oncoming u.s. sanctions and playing every card they have it used to be that iranian leaders would threaten to restart nuclear enrichment at higher levels and now we're seeing them also play their other card which is to threaten or to disrupt international shipping lanes sofie is approved a professor of political science attack iran university he says that the u.s. policies on iran hurting the government. i don't i don't think iran wants the war in to be frank i don't think the united states wants a all out war either i mean the united states can also not afford a major war with iran nevertheless what is important here is the u.s.
12:08 pm
administration is trying to say we are supporting ordinary iranians were is in reality the sanctions actually hurt ordinary iranians the most so you cannot on the one hand say that we're against the iranian government while sanctioning the people who are in essentially also we have to consider the fact that rouhani was elected during an election with over seventy percent participation rate and he got almost sixty percent of the vote so whether we like him or not he is the representative of the iranian people and we cannot essential the put on this face that we're supporting the reigning people but we're against the iranian government the syrian government and its ally russia stepped up their offensive against eisel controlled areas in the country southwest people in northern israel heard emergency sirens going off let's go live now to the israeli occupied golan heights al-jazeera stephanie decker is the staff or so later just. yes those sirens went
12:09 pm
off where we were when we arrived we heard very close shelling and what was interesting is you know usually there's not much israeli army action along here we were told to move back from a base because because of the shelling was getting that close so there is more and more nerves i should say certain we've been witnessing it's gone quiet now a.j. and. actually there's an airstrike just behind us i'll just get out of shot and we've been seeing this happen throughout the morning intensive air campaign very close to the israeli side of the occupied golan heights and also a lot of tank shelling not just where we are which is this side of the area controlled by that islip the lated group but also the other side it's a pocket agent and it really is sort of the only pocket left of opposition control in this area and even though the government has been making deals with other rebel areas they will not be dealing with eisel so certainly a very active count pain under way as seen as really
12:10 pm
a final push by the government as you mentioned russia to take back the entire southwestern part of syria itself once what's down there looks pretty pretty barren just fields behind you that without the air strike was that with the we just sort of what's what's changed since you were last reporting from that site a few days ago. it's interesting because before you had a lot of tents of the internally displaced as we've been reporting some of them came right up to the border with the israeli fence last week trying to get passage but because the fighting was getting so close now what happened today is we arrived in the same place where we'd earlier seen many of those tents we wanted to get very close to see what the situation was for those people and because the fighting has now stopped and they are these the syrian army is back in control there of course many people not happy about that but those tense of gone completely empty from what we saw today so it seems that people have started to go home it's difficult to get
12:11 pm
a real indication what the situation is like inside for them but yes just in terms of geography it's very barren ajoint it's open land and behind us there are some villages of course that are still under control of that iceland there are israeli army bases and today certainly the israeli army far more. visibly present here monitoring what is happening we've seen them with cameras looking across the border keeping a very close eye about what is happening right stephanie thanks indeed i was there stephanie deck of that reporting live from the occupied golan heights hundreds of thousands of children in china they have been given substandard vaccines health regulators found a drug make a violated safety standards it's the second scandal to hit the company in the past week china correspondent adrian brown reports from beijing. well the firm in question is one of china's largest pharmaceutical companies chung chung biotechnology it is based in the northeast of the country and it seems that it's
12:12 pm
been falsifying its test records for the rabies vaccine that it produces now that vaccine has now been recalled and production at the company has halted to make matters worse just a few days ago this same company was fined over vaccines it produced sub standard vaccines for tetanus hooping cough and diptheria now this of course has caused real outrage on social media and the case is being reported in a very forthright way by state controlled media an editorial in the china daily on monday for instance said the now needs to be a complete overhaul of the pharmaceutical industry here in china because of course this is not an isolated case there have been many scandals involving the pharmaceutical industry during the past decade on sunday night china's premier league released a statement saying those responsible should be punished and he said this case had crossed a moral line but of course we now have
12:13 pm
a situation in china where millions of parents are now worried that their children have been given inferior vaccines and they want to know what that's going to mean on social media some people have been posting comments saying things like i don't trust chinese medicine i don't trust chinese vaccines i'll only buy foreign medicines in future so this appears to be a scandal that is not going away in many ways it is growing we're going to weather a plague next hero to zero then the fallout continues for france's president after one of his bodyguards is filmed hitting a protester. hello there we're still seeing to ridgely heavy downpours over parts of the philippines at the moment we've already got reports of flooding in luzon and you can see the bright white cloud that's been with us over the past twelve hours or so that's
12:14 pm
given as yet more heavy rain some places reporting well over two hundred millimeters of rain for subic bay two fifty six so an incredible amount of rain there on top of what we've already seen that will give us more problems with flooding and there's plenty more rain still to come so for the philippines then choose days looking wet and on wednesday it's also looking very wet and once more further south there will be some showers over parts of borneo but more in the way of sunshine as well so a mixed bag here and as you head down towards java barley should be fine and dry for us in k.l. and singapore mostly dry here just the occasional shower perhaps as we head down towards australia you can see the clouds all drifting its way across the south is moving away from perth for now but there's still just the risk of one or two showers i think as we head through the day on tuesday the more persistent rain though making its way through towards the southeast so adelaide we're going to see that rain and the strong winds as well across parts of victoria and into tasmania
12:15 pm
that mostly clears as we head through into wednesday but there's more rain coming in to the west. capturing a moment in time. snapshots of the lives of the stories. providing a glimpse into someone else's work out inspiring documentaries from impassioned filmmakers everybody's going to. go be so. witness on al-jazeera.
12:16 pm
again the top stories this hour on al-jazeera all of the gunmen who stormed the kurdish regional government building in a bill in northern iraq have reportedly been killed or captured one of the attackers blew himself up it's believed that one hostage held has been freed. iran has condemned a tweet by u.s. president donald trump calling it a passive reaction to comments by iran's president trump warned hassen rouhani of consequences if he threatened the u.s. it's in response to a speech saying that war with iran is the mother of all wars. and hundreds of thousands of chinese babies some as young as three months old may have been given substandard vaccines premier league chairing has called for an investigation and says that anyone who's connected will be severely punished. the president of france about a crime has ordered a reshuffle of his staff after a video showing his former bodyguard assaulting
12:17 pm
a protester alexander nala seen here to the right of micron has been charged after he was identified beating a protester he's now under investigation for interfering in public service and for wearing a police badge illegally president micron's sacked an hour on friday after a video of the assault was posted online let's go live now to parasail jazeera is david chase or is with us david france is interior minister is being grilled by the country's law commission today what's the latest. yes coleman has been inside the national assembly behind me now for just over about twenty minutes or so and he said that he's taken this. situation extremely seriously he said that he was informed about the incident of the day off two eggs on may the second and he knew also that there was a video of the of the attack and he said he'd then positon least details to the french cabinet so not passing the buck he said the interior ministry wasn't
12:18 pm
responsible for this it was up to the french cabinet to deal with it now they did suspend the bodyguard and he as he went back to work two weeks later after being suspended for two weeks without pay and then he was seen with the president on bastille day and also when the victorious well cup team came back to paris so we've also heard before he was fired on friday that he'd just been given a luxury apartments in on the on the sand where all of us are housed and given a chauffeur driven car so it did appear on the surface until we get more details from the interior minister that they were hoping that perhaps this would go away but it hasn't the video has been released and it shows the the security guard wearing a police armband wearing a police visor very much acting as
12:19 pm
a policeman and pulling a woman down to the ground and also beating up a male protest on may the first so this is a very serious case and he has now been charged with a senshi violent assault and this case will continue and continue larry being a thorn in the side of president from yes far as the threat to president background is concerned how serious is this. it's a very good point because you know you'd expect the president of france to have a boost in his popularity ratings i mean really after the victory of the world cup instead the opposite has happened present france ratings have dropped to below forty percent somewhere around thirty nine percent in the latest poll and so instead of this being called banal a gate it's now being called macro gate he was elected on a vision of new integrity and transparency to bring to the french government to
12:20 pm
bring to the lease a palace instead we have this case which shows very much that. they did almost get away with this if that video hadn't been released by le figaro one of the main newspapers here in paris and then he would have continued as normal and people want to know exactly why the president hasn't publicly made a statement yet because of the legal proceedings of course he has to be careful but nevertheless people want to hear from him why was this allowed to happen why was this man apparently being protected from the full consequences of the law. david many thanks indeed i was there as david chaytor there live in paris the united nations highest court will rule later on a dispute the divide gulf neighbors cassock uses the u.a.e. are violating international law by expelling thousands of cancerous since the start of the g.c.c. crisis pressure malveaux reports. qatar is stepping up its legal battle against the u.a.e.
12:21 pm
accusing it of human rights violations the two members of the gulf cooperation council the regional body created to boost cooperation and referee spat among its members has been quick polled by a diplomatic dispute so is turning instead to the international court of justice. last june u.a.e. saudi arabia and egypt sever diplomatic ties with qatar and imposed a land sea and blockade qatar alleges that its citizens were either illegally expelled or denied access to the u.a.e. where they have families own property i think it's highly likely that the ins which court justice will accept jurisdiction and so what qatar are seeking at this stage is is more of a cease and desist order so to prevent any further violations
12:22 pm
and to remedy compensate those that have suffered. the blockading countries accuse qatar of funding extremism accusations strongly dismissed by doha the u.s. fears a prolonged crisis would undermine its push to contain iran's growing influence and defeat isis i think it continues to be fractured and and dangerous i mean the amount of weaponry that's being poured into the region is escalating. daily basis the language is escalating particularly given john bolton's push against iran e. this legal action is made possible because of the four blockade in countries u.a.e. is the only one to have signed up to the nineteen sixty five international convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination mike and
12:23 pm
lawyers representing the u.a.e. challenge the case and ask the court to dismiss it. says it remains determined to pursue all legal means to and the blockade. the caused by qatar against the u.a.e. is another sign of the ongoing tension triggered by the g.c.c. kweisi it's been fourteen months since the brocade was imposed and people feel more instability and uncertainty if differences cannot be set aside to and the worst political crisis the region has ever seen. doha the president of the philippines for three go to tertius and your state of the nation address has been delayed because of a leadership change in congress to thirty was expected to sign a new law ahead of that speech that supposed to help curb violence in the southern mindanao region but he wasn't able to do so sighed congress many protesters have

gathered to denounce the president's policies and demand his resignation. israeli soldiers have shot dead a palestinian teenager in a raid on a refugee camp in the occupied west bank the fifteen year old was shot in the chest at a camp near bethlehem another person was shot in the leg the israeli military says that its troops fired after being attacked with rocks and grenades at least twenty five children have been killed by israeli forces in the first half of this year we'll have a jump jhoom reports from west to racine. account that i'm is here that's the name of the fifteen year old palestinian boy who was killed during an overnight raid by israeli security forces in a refugee camp known as the hay shed in southern bethlehem now we've spoken to the israeli army they tell us that two suspects of terror activity were apprehended during that raid when which confrontations took place we're also told by the israeli army through a statement that a violent riot was instigated in which palestinians hurled rocks and threw fire bombs and grenades at i.d.f.
12:25 pm
soldiers in response to the threat the soldiers used riot dispersal means twenty two caliber round and fired live round selectively now we must remember that raids of this nature are a nightly occurrence we're told by palestinian officials that more than three thousand five hundred have been detained in the first half of this year we've also heard from defense of children international palestine they say that this year in this period up till now that at least twenty five palestinian children have been killed and that's three times the amount of children that were killed in the same period in two thousand and seventeen yemen's government says that it will resume talks with hooty rebels only if they release all prisoners of war from a distance of a been dug says the negotiations will have to lead to the rebels disarming and withdrawing from the capital sanaa the u.n. sponsored talks have been going on for weeks now with few positive results the saudi embassy coalition has paused its offensive to retake low data city from the. brazil's liberal government is facing

a challenge from the far right congressman jesse balsa lotto has announced that he's running for president opinion polls suggest that he's in second place after the jailed for the president louis ignacio lula da silva who will likely be barred from running if he's elected in october also those promised to dissolve state companies to crack down on crime take brazil out of the paris climate change agreement. a tiny remote village in greenland has been nervously watching an eleven million ton ice bug that stripped to next to the settlement if it breaks up people fail the waves could wipe out their community dick clark reports now from the remote innuit village helicopters in these parts of the lifeline for small communities they provide all services especially in times of crisis.
12:27 pm
below thousands of icebergs the result of the outflow of nearby glass is draining the greenland ice sheet. then the iceberg in question it is huge one hundred meters by three hundred why behind it you can make out the settlement of in our suit sprawled off a hillside. on the ground a community of around one hundred seventy people there are families there are children their bread is on the water has they fish and hunt and they used to icebergs drifting by but never this close and never this big. i mean double normally icebergs are not that high they are low wide but this one is very high which made it frightening. this video shows chunks of ice cascading into the water causing life threatening waves to crash into the shoreline several homes had to be evacuated there was concern for the villages power generator and fuel tanks and boats were dragged up the hillside. we major out towards the ice but it
12:28 pm
has now shifted away from the harbor entrance not as dangerous as it was but still presenting a threat it could cause at any time fishman canoed isn't has never seen it but this big so close. you can identity kept on it actually came pretty fast in front of the village they saw the danger and so they evacuated some houses and prepared for what could happen between now and then there was a big wind and it blew it outside here like it's hoped the iceberg will now slowly head out to sea nudged along by wind and current evacuated residents are back in their homes life is beginning to return to normal making the most of the short summer a quiet time for the dogs head of a winter a sledge pulling they think about how dangerous it is to be here when there's a big iceberg in front of them. and they cannot really sleep because they're kind of expecting that he's going to kill in
12:29 pm
a minute or an hour or so of course they're like they cannot really rest but they won't change their lives for nothing and they want to stay here because of the fishing on foot to movies and hunting over the unities all year round so what to make of all this there's no way that you can attribute this iceberg to climate change specifically but there's no doubt that there's a growing incidence of ice preparation here in greenland over the last one hundred years and occurrences and threats like this one may continue as time goes on. and add to that the changing sea ice conditions these communities are witnessing it is very apparent that things are shifting here in the arctic but global temperature change is more keenly felt than anywhere else. al-jazeera you know suit green. the german football him as a whole has surprised football fans by announcing his international retirement the midfielder who's
