just a week after warning iran about threatening the u.s. donald trump says he's willing to meet the iranian president without preconditions . and ready to meet anytime they want to do no preconditions no they want to meet only any time they want. this is al jazeera live from doha also coming up north and south korea meet the military talks aimed at easing tensions between the two countries. a high turnout for zimbabwe's presidential election but opposition parties cry foul despite being indorsed by robert mugabe. left in legal limbo four million people in a some state may lose their indian citizenship because they can't prove they

arrived before nine hundred seventy one. u.s. president donald trump has surprised everyone by saying that he be willing to meet iranian president hassan rouhani at any time and without preconditions the two men have been locked in an escalating war of words ever since trump withdrew the u.s. from a landmark twenty fifty nuclear deal alan fischer as the story. the u.s. president's surprise offer came during a news conference at the white house with italy's prime minister no preconditions no they want to meet only any time they want. any time they want the u.s. spy lifted the deal is signed with iran and its international partners when president trump announced in may the u.s. was pulling out even though there was no indication iran was in breach this was a horrible one sided deal that should have never ever been made he don't get for months it was a terrible deal and vote to scrap it when he became president his offer to talk
6:02 am
with iran's president well threw up many more questions and moakley conditions means that he's ready to sign on the dotted line so to speak with the iranians so will that be acceptable to the region to the powers in the region to the g.c.c. specifically saudi arabia and the us. i doubt that we've been here before they will be met with fire and fury donald trump very north korea and its leader before agreeing to a meeting and earlier this month he met russian president vladimir putin in all sinking at a top level summit it'll be interesting to watch the reaction to donald trump's offer when barack obama was in the white house and said he'd be willing to meet the iranian president he was heavily criticized by republicans democrats and by many right wing commentators who know largely support donald trump. one additional problem might be who would broker a summit with iran or south korea pave the way for the meeting with kim jong il in france might be an option president emanuel mccraw had arjan donald trump not to
6:03 am
walk away from the iran deal during a state visit to washington is links with tehran and that might open up the necessary diplomatic channels that are voices senior people in this white house have been very critical of the iranian government and called for its removal but this is donald trump's white house if you want something to happen then it could and soon alan fischer al-jazeera at the white house. has more now from tehran. donald trump has said over and over again that he's america's mansa negotiate a better deal with iran iranians have repeatedly said there is no reason to go shooting a nuclear deal that they signed three years ago and that is the point it was reiterated by a political deputy a lower level official in the president's office in a tweet tonight in which he basically made the point that if donald trump believes in talks if he believes in the goshi ations then he has to appreciate the process of negotiations as well and we respect the outcome that's already happened his
6:04 am
suggestion to move forward on what he called was a rocky path was for the united states to stop all of its hostile rhetoric towards iran and rejoin the twenty fifteen nuclear deal to join comprehensive plan of action now in daylight hours iranian leaders are expected to take a look at this term unconditional it's very different from the twelve points that was put out by the u.s. secretary of state might prompt a zero in may in which preconditions were laid out for any talks to restart with iran and here it was viewed as tantamount to conditions of surrender so that is something very different and in terms of the north korea model the trump is trying to push there are a few reasons why it is unlikely to work with iran iran is a regional powerhouse and it is right now on the upswing with military successes in iraq and in syria and we can't forget that iran is it one of the largest oil producing nations in the world so it's not in the same position as north korea and
6:05 am
it's also unlikely to see a photo opportunity with the united states with president trump as beneficial for itself domestically well trita parsi is president of the national iranian american council he doesn't think iran will trust trump's comments or his advisors. i am afraid at the iranians and i'm going to take trump's offer here predict you seriously particular michael of the fact that pompey all contradict the trump just about an hour later and gave a very different statement that made it very clear that the united states still has preconditions so confused. signals from washington contradictory signals i think renders wrong quite skeptical about this offer the iranians are going to be very skeptical about someone like john bolton in trump's team as well as tom peel and others particularly if you look at around the people around trump right now there's hardly anyone that actually has been on the record favoring diplomacy with iran and particularly not diplomacy that is coming without

preconditions because of breaking news out of the philippines now there's been a bombing in the south in lima town city at least ten people have been killed in what's believed to be a car bomb attack soldiers that a checkpoint are among the dead well general allen duggan joins us with the latest from manila what more details are emerging about this explosion. well what we're getting basically is about five am local time a van approached coming from the hinterlands just at a checkpoint outside than city a checkpoint that's connected to an army detachment. forces part of the philippine military were inspecting this van when it exploded this era is also where several members of family members of these forces the philippine military are also are were there also living so there are also reports that a woman and a child may have also died there is still no identity when as to who the
6:07 am
military is not yet released who the bomber was there have been reports that this may have been the suicide bomber that something that the philippine military denied they said they believe that the bomber panicked and that the intention really was to go to the heart of limits and city daryn as you know but zealand is the birthplace of the notorious i would say your group for decades they have been conducting bandit operations there kidnapping and and assault basically but over the last few years there's been relative peace in brazil and so this is something that's quite unexpected specially since development of the area has been improving over the last few years daryn a juggler as you say the province is a known stronghold of server long groups including i was so yes i mean how the security forces like to respond to their students. well at first what they're seeing now is they're looking at intelligence.
6:08 am
operations first looking at intelligence reports we're getting also information that there have been threats in the city increased threats over the last few days so this is going to be the start of that investigation they said they will wait for that official report but until they have actually identified the group it is unlikely that there will be an offensive as you know the leader of the abu sayyaf group on of the top leaders defected from by sealant tomorrow we last year that is anyone have learned he was pushed out by the community daryn. about two years ago and he was eventually killed in the war in the last year or so largely by sealand even if it's become the religious hub of the abu sayyaf group the ideological have it has largely been leader less since that since some happyland defected so it's unlikely how this is going to move what we know that there is strong core donation between the governor there and the community and of course the philippine army

general thank you. military talks are being held between north and south korea the two sides are meeting at the truce village of punishment inside the demilitarized zone they're expected to discuss the disarmament of the borders and withdrawing troops from the area broad joins us live now from the south korean capital seoul rob so what more details do we know about these military talks taking place between the north and self. that's right these talks are the second high level talks that have taken place since the landmark into korean summit in april darron they have begun in the past couple of hours or so the leader of the south korean delegation expressed his optimism that they were going to achieve results part of that optimism i think stems from the fact that these specific talks were requested by the north so it seems to show sincerity on their part and that they hopefully will reach some conclusions what they're talking about generally is about reducing the tension level along the d.m.z.
6:10 am
and looking in particular at some of the outposts those from the north and the south that face off against each other that have been in place now for decades with military personnel and weaponry both light and heavy face each other and ways of reducing the numbers of personnel and also the weapons that they are armed with and also looking at some of the soldiers who famously face off against each other between those blue huts of pam and john itself it seems to be one of the most overt examples of the animosity that exists and that many people here believe could now be stepped down that they don't have to have this show of force i think in more practical terms they're also be looking down at the western end of the demilitarized zone at the sea border that separates north and south korea this is a disputed border area especially by the north that has been the source of conflict a flashpoint in the past so it is important that they try to resolve just where
6:11 am
that border lies to try to try to put off any future clashes down rob meanwhile in the u.s. the washington post is running a story that north korea is allegedly making some kind of new missile what more details do we know. it is i think a reminder of just how this whole situation remains complicated you know we have these are differing views differing signs signals coming out of north korea remember just a few weeks ago we were looking at satellite imagery that seemed to support the claim that north korea was dismantling one of its one of its rocket testing facilities as promised by kim jong un summit meeting with president trump in singapore and now we have confirmation it seems that work is continuing on i.c.b.m.'s we don't know exactly how serious that this work is whether they are preparing a missile for completion we simply don't know but it is i think for people who
6:12 am
believe in this whole process it is not a very hopeful sign and yet there are people other observers who say that this whole industrial nuclear process that supports the weapons program of north korea is so vast that it simply can't be stopped just like that takes time for for it to be scaled back and for these kind of operations do to be slowed down and there are optimist who will also tell you that at least they have not launched a missile for months and those optimists include of course donald trump but you are right that the sign that this missiles are being tested does seem to challenge the claim made by president trump that north korea is no longer a nuclear threat all right to robert right there in seoul rob thank you now there's been a high turnout in zimbabwe's first election without longtime leader robert mugabe seventy five percent of voters came to cast their ballots higher than the last poll in twenty thirteen election observers say in some areas voting went smoothly but in
6:13 am
others it was disorganized reports in the capital harare. counting has started in what some are calling zimbabwe's historic election is the first photo with the on the ballot in nearly four decades. the man who is now in charge president. promises the general elections period will be peaceful. no doubt the end of. the main opposition leader nelson chamisa says he's confident of winning by more than sixty percent if the polls are free and flea that people have spoken the people are speaking and it's clear that the vote is a vote for victory one for freedom and one for democracy and one for a new zimbabwe robert mugabe voted in an opposition stronghold in harare the day before the election he says he would not. or the party because they forced him to

supporters fear the vote is or has been tampered with and the ruling party will try and manipulate the vote of officials denied allegations some analysts are already saying the election results will likely be contested. break here not just iraq when we come back in the major quake hundreds of hikers make their way back down to safety after being trapped a mountain. on another round of diplomatic talks take place and ending the war in syria on the stay with us. out of the eastern states in for a fair amount of rain the next day or so although a cold front has gone through the general idea is rather warm and humid weather and
6:16 am
i was promised big storms the discrete charmed ones in the in the plains states and down towards texas and you see one to them and i think the concentration is going to be down here thirty ish degrees lower humidity is the trigger that we've got hot weather up in northern california to running up towards seattle to yours but there's nothing in the weather scenario that's going to help at all with containing the fires that all the rain is further east right the way down to the southern states and florida and beyond agreed after a couple days some big dimples likely out of that i think the next and beyond florida into the bahamas and cuba and if you're lucky in jamaica and haiti and i think in the yucatan will see rather more showers as they have been the last twenty four so in the next twenty four hours mexico's joining into was some fairly big shots there is a bit of a gap you see one of two running through the crowd here in costa rica and panama and we've seen some big poles in colombia recently causing some flash flooding that's a repeatable event rain is shown itself up again in rio that is there for tuesday

welcome back a quick amount of top stories here on al-jazeera donald trump says he's willing to meet iranian president hassan rouhani at any time and without any preconditions the two men the been locked in an escalating war of words of us and trump withdrew the u.s. from a landmark twenty fifteen nuclear deal. philippine media is reporting a bombing in lima town the city in the south of the country at least ten people have died in what's believed to have been a car bomb soldiers of a checkpoint are among the dead. and there's been a massive turnout of voters in zimbabwe's first election without longtime leader robert mugabe seventy five percent of voters cast their ballots opposition candidate nelson chamisa is the main challenger to the current president and. the hundreds of hikers in the indonesian island of lombok of made their way down the mountain where they've been traps in sunday's earthquake the tremors caused landslides on the mountain which then blocked all the escape routes the magnitude

six point four quake killed at least sixteen people industry more than a thousand homes on the tourist on it. and joins us live now from. step so just bring us up to date on this operation to get the remaining high because the mountain. well the operation has been very successful so far the last three have just been evacuated from. been taken down by helicopter because they were so traumatized by that powerful earthquake that struck while they were inside in the mountain probably high up around. and then they of course the quake very happily and all to them everything was coming down to a landslide so these three people were the last remaining hikers in the mountain modern a thousand past come down in the last couple of days it's the peak of the tourist season here and i'm at the foot pier of mountain in china it's a very busy. normally where a lot of tourists come to think nationalities were in the mountain when the

powerful earthquake struck and luckily they all have been managed to come down most of them came down by them with their guides and others have been rescued by the authorities and stuff what about the devastation to the rest of the island i mean as you say this was a pretty powerful earthquake. yes it was very strongly felt and the people we've been talking to throw a party here so traumatized nobody dares to sleep inside if their house is still standing there all been on the three they have their little plants in front of their houses the damage is very sporadic some pockets there's a lot of damage the houses completely collapsed and others are completely fine so this is where you can see that they've cracked the lines basically with how the earthquake earthquake struck and there have been more than two hundred seventy even this morning there are still aftershocks so people are really really scared until this moment all right. thank you. syrian state t.v.

is reporting government forces are attacking isilon two fronts in the basin region close to the southern border with jordan pressing ahead with the offensive despite threats from eisel to kill civilians on wednesday are still fighters killed dozens of people and abducted around eighteen more in attacks in the province in the south west the group is now restricted to a few pockets of territory when all this comes as another round of diplomatic talks to find a solution to syria's seven year long civil war began in the russian city of sochi . is that. it's a time of the year would the beaches of sochi a field day makers many seemingly oblivious to far away diplomatic efforts are underway to solve the bloodiest conflict in the twenty first century. this is the tenth round of the talks sponsored by russia iran and turkey u.n. special envoys to fund the mistura is also here much has changed under ground in

syria since the last round in mid may the government has made thirty three tauriel gains recently taking control of the border areas with jordan and israel and the escalation zones in the homes region heading up the syrian delegation un ambassador bush. looks like a guest of unlike his usual stomping grounds this is friendly territory talks of removing president assad or of a transitional government are not on the table here these talks are not only about syria but about solving the conflict while protecting the interests of the many different parties involved in this complicated. the battle for the northern province of. its where much of the armed opposition absent here in sochi has been retreating to this is a great concern for turkey which is likely to seek assurances that the fragile cease fire will continue to be respected by the regime and then there is russia it

wants to discuss humanitarian issues such as the resettlement of millions of refugees. there are more elements of sapelo t.m.p. poor eager to return home large numbers a living in neighboring countries but one million in jordan more than a million in lebanon three and a half million in turkey not to mention those in europe it's also in the interest of europe to help their resettlement by creating the conditions for that we understand the process is supposed to be on a volunteer basis but we must not prevent them from returning or part of a message russia is keen to put out the war in syria is coming to an end i think that depends who you are i mean assad for example has also said he is nearing a victory if you are an opposite. great for example if you're a militant groups like islamic states or. that hasn't partaken in peace talks or doesn't necessarily need to agree on any post conflict scenario then i think going

fire is moving how hot it was and how strong the winds were but to really see it look at this this used to be somebodies home and this is all that remains of it it's been reduced entirely to ashes that right there that you're looking at first probably the kitchen and really nothing exists anymore and we've seen scenes like this all over this county that we're in right now this was a devastating fire and it was most people were just able to evacuate on very short notice with only what they had on them and what they could grab in a few minutes and run out at this particular fire luckily only six people were killed but firefighters say it's a miracle that more people did not lose their lives this is one of seventeen major fires that's burning right now just in the state of california fire officials

special counsel's office they plan to use this as evidence in his trial arguing in order to pay for them he used secret overseas bank accounts and filed false tax returns the government also says that it will call five yet to be named people to testify and granted immunity in court to force them to talk a somewhat unusual move you could draw that conclusion saying that their evidence without the immunity was so weak and fragile they needed to have something more so they had to give immunity that otherwise. without it wouldn't provide it with there would not be enough evidence on their own to convict because remember the standard in a criminal case is proof beyond a reasonable doubt this will be the first time the special counsel present evidence in a courtroom in a case related to a trunk confidant which means many will be watching for information not just about what men of four might have done but his former boss as well patty call him al jazeera washington colin is in our web site there it is on the screen the address
