a passenger plane crashes just off the takeoff and north mexico reports suggest that everyone has survived. a low arm or had a moment this is al jazeera live from doha also coming up facebook says it has removed thirty two pages believed to have been set to influence the u.s. metabo lections. and as i'm bob way away as the final result of the presidential election both leading parties remain confident of success. in south africa's government says it will move forward with plans to take over a farm land without compensation.

and there's been a plane crash in the mexican city of durango the airline a from the national carrier aero mexico came down shortly after take off from home and has been following all of those developments live for us in mexico city so john what more can you tell us. but as you said a little bit earlier there aren't any registered fatalities so far in this crash and that seems a bit of a minor miracle here because when you see the state of the plane after it came down on fire and it really looks in a terrible sort of state we've seen reports from local reporters there on the scene saying that survivors some of them even walked to the motorway to try and get help now the latest that we're hearing is from the governor of the state that the plane went down in the rango which is in the north of mexico he's saying that there's
3:02 am
forty nine people in hospital and he's also saying the preliminary check shows that they've managed to clear everyone off the plane he says that they're going to double check that just to see if there's anyone left behind on that plane so at the moment it seems like a bit of a great escape for those involved in this well the fact that there were no deaths associated with this crash is creating quite americal but how are the mad to say officials dealing with the crash now well the rescue operation is really in in full swing. obviously because they quite quickly after the crash to try and take people away to nearby hospitals the federal government has got involved so the great cross they just had a spokesman that was speaking about this have got involved it's basically just a question of taking people to nearby hospitals the recross spokesperson was talking mainly about burns broken broken bones so we just have to see how the
3:03 am
injured managed to get on after this. and have you heard anything more about what could have caused this plane to crash. local officials here are saying it's special the national level that there has to be an inquiry to really check into that some people that have been talking to their family members that were involved in the crash say that conditions for takeoff weren't that great talking about about heavy winds and also writing the wondering if that could have factored into the fact that the plane did again seem to get very far before it came down again so that has yet to be determined if that was a factor in this crash ok john heilemann monitoring all of those developments coming out of mexico city thank you john. now social media giant facebook says it's discovered a coordinated campaign to influence the u.s. mid-term elections it's removed thirty two accounts and pages it believes in

authentic all linked to fake organizations aimed at creating divisions before november's vote almost three hundred thousand people followed the suspended pages and then fisher has more now from washington d.c. . the founder of facebook mark zuckerberg went to capitol hill in april to admit his company hadn't done enough to stop foreign groups trying to influence the twenty sixteen u.s. presidential election we didn't take a broad enough view of our responsibility and that was a big mistake and it was my mistake and i'm sorry. now as part of its continuing investigation into election interference it discovered it's happening again and so it has suspended thirty two pages on the platform and instagram which it also means they are going to be a hair trigger alert for you know for the foreseeable future so any instances that crop up like this they're likely to take to take action and then be public about

consider meddling in our networks or in the affairs of our democracy the united states will no longer tolerate or accept your interference you will be exposed and you will pay a high price facebook has been heavily criticized for not doing enough to stop outside interference in the twenty six thousand election it's determined that won't happen again and it says it continues to work with the f.b.i. to identify threats and remove them from its platforms. al-jazeera washington. well i know we spoke to the end of frito is the chief technology correspondent at access she says that whoever is behind the fake accounts is trying to sow discord in the united states and there's no reason to think that stopping here you know we've heard a lot of intelligence that there's a sustained credible campaign being targeted at the midterms so i would be surprised if this is the last of it to be honest i think this is what they were
3:07 am
able to identify now and i think also just when you look at what was attacked this wasn't pro one candidate or another necessarily this is just sowing the seeds of discontent and to the degree that that's the target that's the way that they're doing it that would require a much broader campaign these pages were generally about counter protests to the right so you have some people in the republican party saying look at the left so clearly russians or whoever is trying to aid the left i think that's a simplistic view i think the main goal here is to sow discontent so that could really be to benefit anyone who benefits from the destabilization of the u.s. that benefits from more divisiveness and political infighting so i think that's a much harder thing to pin but certainly you know it makes sense given what we know about the people that are looking to interfere with the u.s. elections. president. and his main rival nelson chamisa both say they're confident of victory

electoral support going into those crucial elections next year the political pressure and the support within the ruling alliance the ruling african national congress and its support of parties has really escalated over the recent weeks and months to ensure or to press forward with the expropriation without compensation of not only government owned land not only private own land but the white owned land in south africa and you heard the statements by president run the focus of these are identical statements that the government of zimbabwe enacted to ensure that they won their political base over the very difficult and challenging act on economic conditions that that country faced and so while the elections are still more than six months away the pressure is on the run from a post administration in the and the econd african national congress to ensure that

used to sway the outcome of the polls in november. an attack on a government building has killed at least fifteen people and injured fourteen others in eastern afghanistan two gunmen set of explosions and stormed the office for refugees in the city of jalalabad security forces forced for six hours to end the siege. now firefighters in the u.s. state of california say they've saved a populated area from wildfires that are sweeping across the north of the state the fire was diverted from the city of caylee into the national forest at least six people have died and seven more so missing since the fires broke out more than a week ago they have destroyed more than eight hundred homes and displaced thousands of families well let's speak to gay brothers under whose life for us in reading in northern california so gave us give us an update how bad is the destruction. well as you can probably see behind me it is

unimaginable it is really bad as you mentioned eight hundred structures completely destroyed many of those are homes this behind me is a subdivision where there used to be many homes but now they've most of them have been turned into ash near this fire which is called the car fires the name they're giving it is one of the most destructive of all the fires that's burning in california the western united states right now officials say they are getting a little bit of a handle on it it's a little bit more than twenty percent contained but it is still going to be several days till they're able to finally get this fire completely under control and finally allow people back in to what's the remnants or remains of their homes here how hard of a job is this for the firefighters at the moment. it's an incredibly hard job and in fact it's a battling these fires is quickly becoming an international effort we have

elections are extremely important to his future plans he told voters here go out go take your friends don't forget about us and if you want to see more of what i'm doing that's all you need to do and would from the white house is that the president wants to add more of these rallies to is shared job going forward to really put himself at the center of what these midterm elections are all about and the worry he really likes to be and enjoys himself the most and that's with his base and speaking about the midterms coming up in the primaries how much is he likely to step up all of his engagement activities. going forward in the lead up. i mean i think that she's done a certainly shown that he wants to do that here by his direct backing of rhonda sanders who we want to see is being the state's next governor rhonda sanders was behind in the polls a few months ago until president trump tweeted out his support for that particular
