rescue teams are struggling to get to many parts of the indonesian island of lombok after its second earthquake in a week the full extent of the destruction is still emerging but a disaster agency spokesman is now talking of massive damage in the north struck by a magnitude six point nine quake on sunday evening the last death toll was put it ninety one people the damage though is widespread thousands of people are out on the streets after their homes are destroyed or badly damaged and even hospitals are having to treat the many injured people outside residents and tourists are also being evacuated from a smaller nearby island and filed this report. this is very near the powerful earthquake of sunday night and on the way here there's a lot of destruction a lot of houses small restaurants small hotels they're all very severely damaged i'm here at the harbor the small ports where be. both tourists both in the nation
12:02 pm
and foreign tourists have been evacuated from the very popular guinea islands very popular especially during the peak season more than a thousand tourists have been evacuated and basically sort of stranded here now not knowing where to go nobody is taking them there's no transportation no food and water all kind of some are telling me they want to leave indonesia as soon as possible. it's tranquil beaches usually draw holiday makers from around the world but the indonesian island has been hit by its second badly quake in the week. it collapsed buildings and triggered mass power cuts sending people into the streets. and i was watching t.v. when i felt a huge shake the land was shaking and people were shouting get out get out i ran out from the house in the dark because electricity was down much of the damage has hit long books west and north where many homes were poorly built i mean with. help
12:03 pm
we need food water and medicine and right now there are many people injured and some of them died for whoever watches this video please share they may be able to help us here. at tsunami warning was issued in its aftermath but it was lifted several hours later. on the neighboring island of bali the city hospital was evacuated. doctors a makeshift clinic in the street. quake was extremely big i was on the third floor to my mother who was being treated when it happened everyone was really shocked paramedics were gardens they've been evacuated those. patients are now here on the ground floor many of the injured are treated here outside the hospital two severely damaged aftershocks still happening patients with broken limbs and other serious injuries from falling debris brought in the authorities are still trying to assess the extent of the damage of this powerful earthquake.
12:04 pm
aftershocks have been as strong as magnitude five point four indonesia is prone to earthquakes due to its location on the pacific ring of fire those on the island hoping the worst is over at the moment rescue workers are being flown in from indonesia and they have yet to reach this worst hit area of course there's a lot of problems with infrastructure bridges being blocked roads are having huge cracks power cops phone lines that don't work so it's very difficult and it's quite a challenge for the authorities to get. the help at the moment. since protests are continuing for a ninth day in bangladesh despite government promises to address their road safety concerns police and groups armed with wooden batons which activists say are linked to the government have attacked students at east west university and dhaka riot police used tear gas to disperse crowds in the capital a security laws being imposed so police can arrest
12:05 pm
a gathering of more than four people or test began last week after the deaths of two students who were hit by a speeding bus the committee to protect journalists is calling for the release of anyone held over their coverage of these protests. and journalists. was soon detained after this interview on al-jazeera on sunday at least five journalists were attacked during the protest including an associated press photographer. joins us now from the capital dhaka as we said this appears to start about road safety but clearly there's got to be a lot more of those driving these protests. yeah there is. you know the political climate here is quite volatile and intense there is. election down the road there's been recently a lot of municipality election with the opposition was not happy because of the rigging in those elections so the climate itself is quite tense just to bring you some updates the government just passed a new transportation act which is. a maximum penalty of five years as well
12:06 pm
as fine without non-bailable offense and this is something new just came in also to update you on the clashes that's going on an east west university in an area called romper out that is an ongoing situation we also having report from the local media on our sources there are clashes in an area called bush where there's a major private university located there police are in clash with students and even harassing civilians checking their i.d.'s. firing tear gas to disperse crowds so this is a very latest something that is going on. which is about five to six kilometers from here so the situation on the ground is still quite intense people are apprehensive they want to know what's next obviously this whole movement has now taken to sort of a political turn in a climate of intense political situation in the country right now we'll have to see
12:07 pm
how it all falls out within next few days for the journalist issues there's going to be a silent protest in the evening at around four pm local time local journalists will stand and form a human change to protest against targeted can against journalists we spoke to several of the journalists colleagues here and they're very. threatened they said we don't want to go uncovered these clashes that is going on because. women and groups are targeting us and the police are not protecting so this is a real sense and for the media community here to cover profile. nearly any kind of incident so they're. on their looks yes sorry go ahead no no absolutely so i was going to ask you what it looks like there's traffic moving behind you but is traffic remotely getting back to normal. it is it is quite normal the public buses that are on just for the last one all of
12:08 pm
the traffic of slowed down a little bit because of the disturbance into products of the city because the city has. freeways most of the traffic gets if there is a clogged some part of the city and that seems like the case for last one hour it's slowed down a bit but otherwise a reasonably normal traffic the public buses are on people are moving around normally but there is a tense feeling in the city right now all right time for a tawdry life in dhaka thank you daryn it's voicing its support for saudi arabia which has expelled candidates in bassett or in frozen all new trade and investment savvy sick use the canadian government of interfering and their affairs for complaining about the rest of human rights activists they include some arpad video right here of some are with the u.s. first lady michelle obama and hillary clinton getting in d.c. in riyadh tweeted its concerns about the detentions by saying canada is deeply concerned about the additional arrests of civil society activists and women's
12:09 pm
rights activists in saudi arabia including some are we urge the saudi authorities to release them immediately and all other peaceful human rights activists the saudi foreign ministry says the canadian tweet is blatant interference and the kingdom's domestic affairs against basic international norms and all international protocols and went on to say it is a major unacceptable affront to the kingdom's laws and judicial process as well as a violation of the kingdom's sovereignty professor of international relations at salt uncle bhushan adversity he says he doesn't expect her talent or reaction from canada. they're do they should be counted and the day you. get everywhere don't know about me if you go back to the seventy's for example b.c. always there are ups and downs in the relationship between two countries so at the most recent incidents as you mentioned related to price issue is going to have faith to
12:10 pm
a good trait. strain been through countries china that was to. portend . trikes than our there are maybe it's maybe three four maybe if your purpose is through to saudi arabia and also this over the area as a source of revenue for a number of canadian universities since thousands of these are. coming to the canadian universities for verification so over here on. corruption a good relation is significant for canada and obviously for dissociative yes as i mentioned a canadian going doesn't want treaty to see these kind of now on the audit pressures are growing inside account of their day it to mr beddoe it but also are that issues related to it human rights so the canadian government try to minimize. the impact of. peace. partition and the according to so the best
12:11 pm
from market watch but i don't expect you to the canadian government to go too far to disregard so it depends much depend on the behavior of the saudi government. the white house sell announced the details of sanctions it's very imposing on iran in just a matter of hours expected to initially cover exports such as cars and carpets washington alan fischer reports. that donald trump has heated the iran nuclear deal for a long time promised if elected president he would immediately withdraw the us from the internationally agreed deal if you could more than a year. we finally did it in me this was a horrible one sided deal that should have never ever been made there are those who would suggest that donald trump hasn't even read the iran deal but he's against it because it doesn't cover issues such as iran's a ballistic missile program or its influence in the region those who sat down originally with theory means decided to concentrate solely on the nuclear issue to
12:12 pm
try and get a deal and they did. when the u.s. pulled out it violated the deal and upset international partners but it also set the clock ticking on snapping back sanctions against the government in tehran anyone doing business with iran a country or company could face u.s. sanction europe india turkey could all be badly hit walking away from the naked idea every imposing sanctions poses two huge problems for international players for other countries one is that they have to in a sense and go along with president trump shredding the international order that they all signed up to and then they have to take a personal hit in terms of their finances either pulling out of iraq are not investing in iraq donald trump believes putting economic pressure on iran will bring them back to the negotiating table there are others in his administration who believe it could even force change the reigning regime is going to ultimately have to look itself in the mirror iranian people especially are increasingly eager for
12:13 pm
economic political and social change but one expert says the u.s. sanctions policy might actually have the opposite effect all this adds up to iran's economy will be under more pressure than it was before but not enough to actually change its nuclear after us and you'll start to see the iranians restart the nuclear program which all only lead tests are going to reach donald trump has in recent days surprisingly or for direct talks with iran with no preconditions but a cold response from the iranians means that it's unlikely to happen before the second wave of u.s. sanctions kicks in in november and that would leave the iran nuclear deal a shelf and struggling to survive alan fischer al-jazeera washington asked farhad on al-jazeera and quoting tense times in the democratic republic of congo with people waiting to see who will run for president and the next because a new president is proposing to deal with being

a group of u.s. financier's of trying to kill him and his wales opposition faires the government will launch a crackdown on reports. i don't mean it's kind of fun since this was the moment when two bomb laden drones allegedly exploded during a military parade in caracas on saturday you know the. security agents quickly surrounded president nicolas maduro and he muscled him off the reviewing platform meanwhile venezuelan soldiers marching in formation broken rayon in all directions witnesses described loud blasts and smoke so me i looked out and i started seeing people running and that's when the device immediately collided there and everything started coming out. but duro immediately blamed his right wing opponents will be apparent attack elements which he said were active in the united states also implicated colombia's president juan manuel santos in nothing although they tried
12:19 pm
to assassinate me and i have no doubt that everything points to the right the venezuelan ultra right in alliance with the colombian ultra right and that the name of juan manuel santos is behind this attempt colombia's foreign affairs ministry called that accusation absurd and in washington president donald trump's national security adviser strongly denied any u.s. role i can say unequivocally there was no u.s. government involvement in this ad all it has been widely reported that trump repeatedly suggested a military invasion of venezuela last year but was talked out of it by senior officials. bolton speculated without providing evidence that maduro his government may itself be responsible for the apparent drone bombing with respect to what happened last afternoon. could be a lot of things from a pretext set up by the majority and itself to something else i don't know but on

donald trump is changing his story about a meeting between his son and a russian lawyer connected to the kremlin the meeting is part of the muller investigation into links between the kremlin and trump's election campaign trump said a few months ago that the meeting was about adopting russian children now he says it was to collect information about hillary clinton tweeted this fake news reporting a complete fabrication that i am concerned about the meeting my wonderful son donald had in trump tower this was a meeting to get information on an opponent totally legal and all the time in politics and it went nowhere i did not know about it exclamation point from washington d.c. mike hanna has more. well the tweet which came at eight thirty five sunday morning completely changed the dynamic of the ongoing milian to test a geisha and into russian collusion essentially president trump has reversed the story concerning the meeting that took place in trump tower back in june twenty

sixth with a russian banker known to have ties to the kremlin the official version of that story given by both president trump and his son donald trump jr was at the meeting was held to discuss the issue of russian adoptions however now president trump says what he has not admitted before that the meeting was in fact to obtain dirt from the russians on political opponents in particular hillary clinton president trump essentially admitting that there was discussion by members of his staff with a known russian agent concerning involvement in the outcome of the u.s. election now it goes even further than this because donald trump jr has told congress that about the original version of the meeting he also purportedly wrote a little which it subsequently transpired was written by his father donald trump
12:23 pm
which gave the alternative reason for that meeting saying it was about russian adoption now we are hearing as well from trump's lawyers one of his many lawyers jay sekulow that discussion is ongoing about whether or not president trump will sit down for an interview with the special counsel robert miller an interview that the council is likely to press for even harder given the news of this latest tweet by president trump however jay sekulow also insisted that idea of a subpoena of a sitting president was absolutely unheard of saying that should such a subpoena be served it would go all the way to the supreme court and would most likely fail to bring president trump to the interview table but incidentally as well that same lawyer jay sekulow admitted during that interview that he also lied last year when he said that that trump tower meeting involved russian adoption not russian collusion. political parties in cambodia are contesting the results of the
