this is al jazeera and live from studio fourteen here at al-jazeera headquarters in doha santa maria look into the new street fifteen saudi man their photos and their names they have all been published by turkish media in connection with the disappearance of the fourteen there is still no sign of the journalists over a week after the end of the saudi consulate in both but it's alleged these men a sort of flew to istanbul that day with the intention to kill him also on the grid the battle for its labor which hasn't happened remember the threat of a final assault on the rebel held problems what with the disarmament in the area now reaching its deadline we're looking at why this plan appears to work where others perhaps happens and on world mental health day we have visiting sweden the country regularly voted as one of the happiest in the world to see how they more on conventional methods of treatment to find these. world health day is one of the top

global trends at the moment but it's not just today about awareness it's also about action we have your stories and what you're doing to help yourself i'm leah harding connect that's their hash tag. with the newsgroup live on air and streaming online through you tube facebook live on al-jazeera dot com details of the disappearance of saudi journalist jamal khashoggi have trickled in in the past eight days but in the absence of any official evidence more information has been published and it is painting a very grim picture indeed you've got this footage sure these are the fifteen men that we have heard from turkish media appearing to form what they call a saudi hit squad they arrived at istanbul's international airport the same day vanished in the washington post says communication plans to detain custody were intercepted by u.s.
7:02 pm
intelligence we're going to outside the saudi consulate in istanbul in a moment but we're starting with this from stephanie decker. turkish sources say these men arrived at istanbul airport with a mission to either abductor or kill. they flew into istanbul on the same day the saudi journalist was due to return to the consulate to finalize some paperwork they're suspected to have been inside the consulate would be entered the building around a quarter past one local time on the afternoon of the second of october a turkish newspaper has published the pictures and the names of the fifteen saudi nationals that the turks say were part of the so-called saudi hit squad the new york times goes into further detail quoting an anonymous senior turkish official saying ankara believes he was killed inside the consulate at the orders of the highest level of the saudi royal court then gruesome detail the question he was killed within two hours of this moment and that his body was dismembered by the

saudi team with a bone saw in what seems to be a deluge of leaks the washington post then divulging that before his disappearance u.s. intelligence intercepted communications of saudi officials discussing possibly detaining him out. it is unclear whether he was ever warned i'm very surprised that one would would confirm this by letting the information know now the fact what has been intercepted is also notable because if true and there are now seem to be in creasing and disparate bits of information that corroborates or substantiate the other pieces of information it would be a shocking act and teske lee glaring one which there were we're told this operation would be really in cock up and to lure someone into your own consulate and then murder the person and. while you know that your entrances and exits are all being videoed is. astounding. this new information seems to be the strain of

attempt by the turkish authorities to ban russia and saudi arabia bill turque successor has an encounter in iraq and the evidence and presented to back up those allegations in a story with major political instincts. her surgeon his fiance is seen here waiting for her fiance outside the consulate and she's written in the washington post the u.s. paper shows she contributed to pleading with the u.s. president to clarify what happened to her fiance and also in the saudis to release security camera footage she says she doesn't want to believe that he's been killed stephany decker stumble also covering events for us jamal shoujo he is outside the saudi arabian consulate and is stamboul i mean the way we have to look at this jamal is that we have a lot of information from a lot of different sources but none of it is official any definitive things that we know he went in it's it's just quite extraordinary when you start to look at it
7:05 pm
holy like that. indeed but i mean come on what we need to look at this is not simply from the prism of a criminal investigation we also have to look at it in terms of it with the idea of international diplomacy and bilateral relations because the moment the turkish officials or security apparatus goes off fishery on record with this then you will have to have political consequences being implemented you will most likely see the expulsion of saudi diplomats you will most likely see the closer or at least the downgrading of representation and so forth and i think the reason why or one of the reasons why the turks still haven't gone on record with this officially is because they're still trying to figure out how to play it politically and diplomatically but there is no doubts based on the information that we have been able to attain from our own sources as to the conclusion that has been reached that amount
7:06 pm
hutchens she was killed one of the latest pieces of information that i got from one of my sources inside the investigation was that these security sources were able to listen to testimony of somebody who was inside the consulates at the time who spoke of entering who was then confronted verbal he there was a loud exchange of words between actual g. and one of the people present and then there was sudden silence as the testimony goes on so this together with obviously the identity of these fifteen people which one of them is the head of the forensics units in the saudi defense forces as well as special forces that have been sent over the fact that they didn't spend the night somewhere where only here for a few hours all of that information paints a very clear and bleak and gossipy picture that german officials she was murdered were assassinated inside the building behind me jamal what about the turks going into the consulate they were
7:07 pm
a few days ago given permission is there any sign of it actually happen because that would be i guess the most important next official step to look for. indeed there and though whilst there was expectation that they were going to enter on wednesday what seemed to maybe delay things a bit more is that the turks have now requested that name not only be given access to the consulate behind me but also to the consul general house which is a few maybe about one hundred meters away from where we are and the reason why the balls to enter the house come out is because based on the traffic cameras in istanbul scuse me they've been able to ascertain that some of the vehicles particularly a black tinted out van that left the consulate just a couple hours after from officials she went missing inside drove directly to the consul general house reversed inside the drive and there was some suspicious activity that took place there so they believe that this is also a place of interest for the investigation they still haven't been given approval
7:08 pm
come out to enter the consul journals house the only approval they were given was to enter the consulate itself but obviously we're talking about more than a week since that happened good talking about the head of the saudi defense forces forensics units being present at the time and obviously is no coincidence of his presence there and therefore the likelihood of finding something possibly in there is limited they are much more interested it seems now based on the information we're getting to examine the house of the consul general which is amazing news in the if you think about the fact that you're talking about the implication not only of the building itself and it's not only about fifteen people being sent over but actually the consul general himself being directly implicated amazing stuff isn't it jamal assails outside the saudi consulate in istanbul thank you for that. so we were conscious of just giving a little bit more background on jamal khashoggi because we're talking about him a lot of these three but there's a lot more to go he is as we know a journalist who criticized saudi arabia's monarchy after mohamed bin salman took
7:09 pm
over as the center of power in the kingdom last year some would refer to him as a dissident because shogi accused the thirty three year old prom prince of introducing a new salary era of quote fear intimidation arrests and public shaming fearing for his safety he fled to the u.s. in september last year that's where he began writing this regular column for the washington post important thing here he makes his views on the crown prince and his policies internationally known. but before he began his journey as a journalist showed he was actually known to be close to the saudi royal family he served as an advisor to senior saudi officials he has also served as an editor of the a what time newspaper and news channel leah picked this one up for me because it just didn't get blowing up and just seems to build and build and build on this does and we're seeing reaction in turkish arabic english it's really quite global and as he has been missing for over a week now the conversation on social media is only growing along with that since
7:10 pm
the critic went missing the committee to protect journalists are still see p.j. amnesty international and other human rights groups have all call called on saudi to make whereabouts known the administration statements finally came six days after he first went missing and five days after the washington post first sounded the alarm now many more people all around the world are still pushing for a clear answer from saudi arabia this person tweeting that the disappearance of her showbizzy in the saudi arabia embassy in turkey is looking like a science fiction movie but says this one is real and this person here he tweeted saying that if the saudi regime gets away with what they did to jamal khashoggi the none of us are safe everything changes for us then and we live in a state state of constant vigilance and this cartoon is being shared by many online showing how he is being held in front of the saudi consulate to be murdered as
7:11 pm
always we would like to hear from you connect with us as always with our hash tag a.j. news they are thank you we've got steven rogers with us now a u.s. military security and defense analyst joining us from nutley in new jersey thanks for your time stephen. hopefully you've been able to hear all of our conversations leading up to this correspondent who is in istanbul as well lee who's here in the studio it just builds up this quite extraordinary picture over a period of eight days where we don't have anything official yet and there's no real sign of it but what do you make of the whole thing. well first of all it's very very important at least based on my experience as conducting investigations over the years of missing persons that the saudi government become very very transparent right now there's a lot of speculation because there are no facts that the people have these investigations begin at what we call ground zero that is the missing persons home a law enforcement will interview their family members first they'll be
7:12 pm
a forensic study on computers cell phones looking for electronic footprints as to who this individual this journalist was communicating with and then they branch out from there and they begin to investigate points of contact like what we've just that what you just articulated and you're opening the saudi embassy so if facts must be revealed they must be transparent and that puts to rest all of this speculation and all of the social media talk it's not going to happen though is it or are they so it's very unlikely as jamal was saying and istanbul and actually one of our viewers on facebook live has just messaged me saying they've had too much time to quote unquote clean up of the evidence so much time has passed by now. and what chance of seeing that transparency well if something did happen inside that embassy and i use the word something if something happened because we still don't know yet then that facebook person is absolutely right
7:13 pm
a lot of time has been spent to clean up what we would say could be a scene of a crime if in fact the crime was committed one of the turks have to do now because there was also talk about how the you know they have to prove something happened here obviously they need the cooperation of anyone particularly the saudis but what sort of position of they in. they're in a tough position look there's a possibility that a crime was committed and without the saudis coming forward and being transparent look there are look at far as i know there's no a video footage that can bring us any substantial facts there's no witnesses that can bring us any facts and i could go on and on of what we don't have but this guy is missing so the turks they want to get to the bottom of it as everyone else wants to get to the bottom of it in fact i i know when president trump was asked about it he talked about the saudis being transparent but he also talked about not to jump
7:14 pm
to any conclusions until we find out at least some facts to give us a foundation as to what happened but they're in a tough this is a position is going to be a lot of the policy that's going to have to be going back and forth between the turks and the saudis to get to the bottom of this good speaking to you stephen rogers thank you so much for your time now just a few moments ago how did forty who is a friend of the show g.'s gave this statement it is outside the washington post office in the capital how about the never wanted to overthrow the saudi government he told me i'm not an opposition i just want some freedom for my people and he probably does for that reason. and for that reason i think this is not a partisan issue and i call upon republicans and many republicans spoke up. to speak up and demand that president trump does something because he keeps reminding us the big fall because of him because of america the saudi government stays in
7:15 pm
power he reminds us yesterday he said that last week and the week before four times in the last couple of months so i think it's about time for him to pull the strings and pull the kingdom so that he didn't and the companies and demand answers and speaking on a radio show the u.s. vice president might pan said washington is ready to assist in finding out what has happened to jamal khashoggi. last question the follow up if the saudis were to request our f.b.i. dispatched technicians to the consulate would they do so i think the united states of america stands ready to assist in any way but as i said yesterday the free world deserves answers the report that a saudi arabian journalist may have been tragically murdered. in turkey. should be deeply concerning to everyone and cherishes the freedom of the press and human rights let's check in with kimberly how could on this one outside the white house complete twenty four hours ago you and i were talking and all we
7:16 pm
had was donald trump saying i'll talk to the fact that some point and i don't know anything a lot is developed in that time. lot has developed but in terms of any sort of phone call and readout from the white house we have not received anything here from the white house press corps what i can tell you is that when the president left the white house yesterday when he was en route to a rally a campaign rally in the evening he said that he was certainly going to raise this issue with the saudis and we know that he has a longstanding relationship with them his first foreign trip was to riyadh his son in law jared cushier also has established ties within the kingdom but we have not seen any evidence that that call has taken place the only information we've received thus far has been from the state department late on tuesday in fact saying that there had been an effort to reach out to to saudi officials through diplomatic channels but again in terms of updates because the united states is pressing for
7:17 pm
a transparent it investigation and for that to be made public that is the press release that was issued by the secretary of state might come peo but from the white house press office still we are left with very few answers in regards to how this is progressing and trying to get those answers ok kimberly thanks for that update can we how can see the white house for us. you know so much talk about jamal khashoggi obviously at the moment but if you want to hear from him and the kinds of things that he had to say he did appear on up front back in march a discussion about democracy and reform in saudi arabia the kind of thing there is because shoji spoke so strongly about it is up front with the house on it is in the show's section at al jazeera dot com or you can just search for. upfront saudi m.b.'s and you'll find that one pretty easily and you can get in touch with us as well as plenty of you have contact details coming up for you on screen a hash tag o.j. newsgroup michael just commented on facebook dot com slash al-jazeera the line stream saying this is a tough one you have a missing saudi in the saudi embassy on the grounds of an embassy which is
7:18 pm
considered the same mind in your home country we talked about this on yesterday's grid it is this gray area but a lot. of our guests will also say dispense with the myth it is still in turkey and the turks do have a right to investigate what happened there that number plus one seven four five or one triple one four nine that will cover you on whatsapp and on telegram as well plenty of comments coming in a lot of you just shocked and stunned the the whole. course of events it has been over the past eight days we are going to move to syria now where according to russia's foreign minister sergei lavrov the deal with turkey to establish a demilitarized zone in the province is being fulfilled he says over a thousand fighters have already withdrawn ahead of the deadline on october fifteenth now remember it late is the last rebel held province in syria and our expectation is that this whole area in green that using the rebel held area would have been turned red by now would have been completely taken over by the syrian government because there was a let talk of
7:19 pm
a final assault on the region instead what we have and i'll just roughly draw down here around the border of a province is a sort of twenty kilometer fifteen to twenty kilometer deep a demilitarized buffer zone which is being well it's going coming down to a deadline in just a few days for that to be completely demilitarized we've got more on all of this now would send her to she's reporting from beirut. heavy weapons have been removed from a planned demilitarized zone in that turkey's state media say the syrian opposition and what it called anti regime armed groups complied with an october tenth deadline it was the first major test of a deal with russia to avoid a syrian government offensive a twenty.
