and i know that we've had some pretty wild weather over parts of australia recently in perth the temperature has been around thirty degrees but then we saw a very violent thunderstorms that was choose day and wednesday was still pretty warm the temperatures would be quite as high as we head through the next few days we're looking at around twenty four still want to showers around here not a quite as violent as those that we see recently there and there's more showers further north across parts of the northern territory even in the east we can expect some outbreaks of rain some of them very welcome because we could do with all the

been summoned for more information about. the saudi government critic hasn't been seen since he entered the saudi consulate in istanbul last tuesday president donald trump says he's also had conversations at the very highest level with the saudis and is working closely with turkey. let me say this it's the highest. you mentioned it's not more than that and more than once you. know. what i do anyway and i've always found him to be a fine man we've got a very good relationship i'm not happy about this we have to see what what. we have to see what happened nobody knows what happened yet i do don't know over there but it's a very serious situation and it's something we're taking very seriously turkish media have released images of what they say is a saudi kill a team in istanbul on the day disappeared stephanie decker in istanbul has more turkish sources say these men arrived at istanbul airport with
5:14 am
a mission to either abductor or kill. they flew in to istanbul on the same day the saudi journalist was due to return to the consulate to finalize some paperwork they are suspected to have been inside the consulate would be entered the building around a quarter past one local time on the off to noon of the second of october a turkish newspaper has published the pictures and the names of the fifteen saudi nationals that the turks say were part of the so-called saudi hit squad the new york times goes into further detail quoting an anonymous senior turkish official saying ankara believes her she was killed inside the consulate at the orders of the highest level of the saudi royal court. then gruesome detail the shot he was killed within two hours of this moment and that his body was dismembered by the saudi team with a bone saw in what seems to be a deluge of leaks the washington post then divulging that before his disappearance u.s. intelligence intercepted communications of saudi officials discussing possibly detaining
5:15 am
him out. it is unclear whether he was ever warned i'm very surprised that one would would confirm this by letting the information know now the fact what has been intercepted is also notable because if true and there are now seem to be in creasing disparate bits of information that corroborates or substantiate the other pieces of information it would be a shocking act and teske lee glaring one which there are or were an intelligence operation would be really in cock up and to your someone into your own consulate and then murder the person and and while you know that your entrance is an exits are all being videoed is. astounding. this new information since it will help the strains of attempts by the turkish authorities to plan for russia and saudi arabia will touch official has officially caught on camera and look at its infrastructure

to back up those allegations a story with major political and talks about. her sergeant's fiance had seen here waiting for her fiance outside the consulate and she's written in the washington post the u.s. paper has contributed to pleading with the u.s. president to clarify what happened to her fiance and also in the saudis to release security camera footage she says she doesn't want to believe that he's been killed stephany decker stumble supporters of has protested outside the saudi embassy in london in washington the man being answers into his disappearance alan fischer reports. supporters of jamal khashoggi took their concerns about his safety to saudi arabia's front door in washington d.c. all the demonstration at the embassy wasn't large detracted media attention and curious inquiries from people passing by human rights activists sami hardass insisted the us government had to do more they're actually getting in the world and

political and economic relationship with saudi arabia reports suggest u.s. intelligence knew of a threat to the washington post columnist an allegation denied by the state department his friend says if true america would be a huge responsibility as we need became a political are slightly in the united states he deserves the government's protection and the government has betrayed him earlier in the day supporters gathered in front of the washington post the newspaper jamal khashoggi wrote for the gatherings in d.c. were just part of a campaign which also saw protests elsewhere in the u.s. and they all insist the demonstrations will continue until they get answers and action alan fischer al-jazeera washington. politicians from both major u.s. parties have written a letter to the trumpet ministration urging it to take a tougher stance against the saudi government let's go live to our state department correspondent roslyn jordan in washington d.c.
5:19 am
first of all how significant is this letter. barbara the release of this letter is simply a coincidence yes there is a call from both republicans and democrats in the congress to put more pressure on saudi arabia but this has to do with the saudi led war in yemen there's been a lot of concern in congress particularly in the senate about the state department certification last month that the saudi government and the government were taking all due precautions to prevent civilian casualties of course this comes in light of the august airstrike in which about forty schoolchildren very young children were killed in their school bus during a saudi led air strike against the rebels they were in a suburb of sanaa the capital of yemen but the saudis and the immoralities were
5:20 am
arguing that there were the rebels in the area they later said that they had targeted this school bus by mistake now the secretary of state might pompei o reportedly went ahead with the certification because of concerns about the u.s. relationship military relationship with both saudi arabia and the u.a.e. particularly when it comes to weapons sales however there is reporting suggesting barbara that there were many within the trumpet ministration both at the white house and here at the state department that the certification should not go ahead but that the arms sales should continue for the purposes of for enhancing the u.s. is national security concerns so it's coincidental that this letter has been sent to the secretary at this time it is not connected to the disappearance of jamal. rosen join in with the latest there from the state department for the moment thank you now let's go to new york and to kristen salumi who is at
5:21 am
a protest there kristen we've seen protests in the past few days in london in washington. now in new york tell me a little bit about what the people at that protest there are saying why they've turned out. a barber this is a small but dedicated group of social justice warriors who gathered outside of the saudi consulate here in the new york city to draw attention to the disappearance of the saudi journalist jamal khashoggi hoping to raise awareness and pressure officials to do a little bit more i've been speaking with them and i have one of the organizers of the event here joining me now named is not a cow for our you should thank you for being here thank you for covering this you were telling me that you felt a personal connection to this story can you tell our viewers about that and why you wanted to come out here and college attention to this. i'm originally from the middle east and issues of repression and censorship and attacks on human rights
5:22 am
are deeply personal to me and are an important issue and so i've been following the story of jamal for shogi since last tuesday since when it broke and i felt strongly that we needed to be out here in solidarity with what code pink is to russia. in front of the saudi embassy and also submitting a petition to the state department saying that they must take action on his disappearance we did hear from president trying today that he's concerned about this issue he wants to get to the bottom of it we know that his son in law jared cushion or spoke to the saudis today as did the national security adviser john bolton are you satisfied with the response of the administration you know the social justice community wants to see action we want to see those who have perpetrated this crime jamal for show good has disappeared it's either a forced kidnapping or it's a murder and those who have engaged in this crime need to be brought to justice in a court of law the church authorities have released the names of the fifteen member
5:23 am
allegedly hit team coming from the saudi government so has the turkish government. asked interpol to issue arrest warrants for these fifteen men. what is the next step in terms of bringing these people to justice in a court of law i've see on the signs here attention being drawn to the war in yemen as well are you concerned about rights in general in the saudi kingdom right we are concerned about the unlawful attacks against yemen initiated by the saudi arabian government we are concerned about the arrests and detention of women activists inside the kingdom of saudi arabia who are concerned about reports of increased disappearances of people inside saudi arabia so the trend even though the crown prince announced a new era of reform maternity moving forward what seems to be happening is increased repression thank you so much for joining us that was not
5:24 am
a from west's package a local activist social justice group and as you heard her saying the protesters who have gathered here are trying to call attention to not just the story of the saudi journalist who disappeared but other journalists the committee to protect journalists here in the united states says that arrests and disappearances of journalists inside saudi arabia has actually increased since prince mohammed bin salman has risen to power in the last year and that's something that they are concerned about while the numbers here are small barbara i have to say a lot of media attention here and a lot of conversations going on with passers by in the streets to raise awareness of this this issue person salumi at the protest in new york kristen thank you for more on this we're joined by mohamed the sorry he's secretary-general of the party for islam if we knew and the exiled saudi political dissident who's been living in the u.k.
5:25 am
since the ninety's sir thank you for joining us here on al-jazeera. disappeared what just over a week now and perhaps initially. the response from the white house the united states the administration was a bit muted it does seem to be gathering pace now we're hearing that mike pompei or john bolton and jared cush there of course there have been some months apparently great friend have called the crown prince to find out what you think any of this will put any pressure on the saudis or do you think it will lead to more information official information coming out let me just mention some fundamental facts one fact is definitely known to you that the american president gets every day in the morning a security briefing another fact which many people do not know but it was featured in the new yorker the new yorker article about me in one thousand nine hundred and this is a national security agency regularly and routinely listens to the world condition of the saudi royals and the hierarchy which is saudi arabia and most likely other countries too but this. so what if the f.b.i.
5:26 am
came just i think through they were yesterday by the information that they have listened to conversation with so would you. tell us officers who want to get in with some american. side attempting to persuade them to cooperate in abducting get into saudi arabia. that. is obviously if they feel you know is that there is it differently or was that more than that so this will be on trump's table since long but no warning for her no advice to him to avoid anything nothing has been done so this looks like a very big. beast very big collusion so could you just clarify what it is that you are saying so you're saying that american citizens nor is what's going on and by very nearly covering war and some really mean that saudi is behind it because it was. the backfiring is due to you could say divine vision by one point seems to be
5:27 am
hostility it is a moment of mind alertness instructed his friend say to wait for him outside and if he doesn't come to set in time to alert certain people you know you are going places and talking and that's what undermined the saudi plan another was to dub succeeded but you're saying that the u.s. sort of knew about it but it didn't trouble his camp because the u.s. is now split in various weeks ok post is that i mean because i think that i don't know i think we don't have proof of that and there is i mean apart from the fiancee waiting outside there's also c.c.t.v. of a judge actually walking into the saudi consulate but so now obviously this has attracted as we've seen in the demonstrations in new york washington london it has attracted global attention so perhaps do you think how do you think that this will play into how developments will go now because we're in the hands i guess of the saudis this will play me i believe this you think this will be even bigger than the issue of trumbull corbet in with the russian and much of election quality with some other
5:28 am
election is bad but human nature that you want to win an election or you make war but it but call it a good or covering up for murder is much bigger than which i mean obviously we have no proof of that so i mean you're saying that and we don't have. we we're going to have to leave it there mohamed messiah secretary general of the party for islam and you all thank you. coming up on the news hour from london attacked just for doing their jobs why journalists in nicaragua are increasingly in the firing line. the head of a bangladeshi opposition group is jailed for life for an assassination attempt on the prime minister and his lawyer says the timing is political and in sports roger federer is forced to go the distance in shanghai sun is here with that story.

hurricane michael is currently smashing into the u.s. state of florida after making landfall a few hours ago a category four storm is the third most powerful to hit the united states since records began in eight hundred fifty one already reports of major property damage and power cuts in the northwest of the state hurricane michael was responsible for thirteen deaths in central america florida's nor the neighboring state of georgia is preparing for the storm to strike in the next twenty four hours when the gallagher is in the coastal city of call a northwest florida which was in the path of hurricane michael and it does seem the that the worst is now over at least for that part of florida tell us a little bit about the impact of hurricane michael where you are. hurricane michel made landfall about four hours ago things got pretty ferocious here as a storm impacted on the florida panhandle four hours later the winds have calmed down the rain is not so bad and this tidal surges and these tidal surge that
5:30 am
they've been talking about really are starting to recede at least here in apalachicola bay the water here has gone back a fair few meters since i was in the car behind me the water was up to the door handle about half an hour ago so that's potentially good news for this community there are some. businesses underwater here that salva see a big problem but things could have been far worse here and we were on the more powerful side of the storm and i can only speak for this area about three hundred seventy five thousand people were under mandatory evacuation orders many people actually didn't heed those warnings they stayed in their homes they rode this storm out and there hasn't been too much property damage here either obviously if there are people suffering under those conditions where there is big tidal surges they're not going to see search and rescue operations or the authorities for a while yet until this storm passes but as it made landfall this was almost a category five storm this state hasn't seen a storm this powerful since eight hundred fifty one it's now moving its way
5:31 am
steadily northward towards the state of georgia it's still a hurricane it may be a category one by the time it reaches that state but that's unprecedented for them they haven't seen anything this powerful for decades so really what we're trying to do at the moment is get a clearer picture of just how much damage there has been done to the florida panhandle but here in apalachicola bay which was pretty close to the eye of the storm things aren't looking too bad and when it comes to the people who stayed because obviously sound will have left their lives would have decided to to rough it out i mean what did they do to stay safe what are they doing now it's obviously a pretty deserted picture behind but what what would they be doing now that the worst is over. well it's deserted behind me because it's flooded the other side of the camera i can see all the residents coming out of the homes emerging from their homes post hurricane michael obviously what they're doing is checking to see what property damage there has been done the power is out here it's probably out across most of this part of the state that won't be restored for
5:32 am
a good few days to come but the people are without left would have gone to hotels friends and family and government shelters those here are just simply seeing what the damage was and i think probably thanking their lucky stars that it isn't as bad as perhaps it could have been given the sheer power of this storm it's now as i said moving its way churning its way towards the state of georgia and even up into the carolinas which was slammed by hurricane force just two weeks ago so this is far from over i think we are after waiting a few hours to see what the picture is and just see how much damage this huge storm has done. and gallagher with the latest there from northwest florida and we thank you. at least ten people have been killed in flash flooding on the spanish island of majorca torrential rains hit the town of florence that have the site on tuesday residents were forced to evacuate after rivers burst their banks and swamped homes with water. a shallow magnitude six earthquake has struck off the indonesian island
