from that couldn't be higher. death by a thousand cuts on al-jazeera. there is other information and evidence that we are holding all. turkey's president says investigators have more evidence yet to be revealed in the killing of the saudi journalist jamal khashoggi and calls the kingdom's explanation of what happened childish and comical. again peter will be here in doha you're watching al-jazeera also coming up we're from a short she's fiancee and her first televised interview. he say the fact that i'm an american isn't just about me crashing for the washington post i'm rushing things

a short she's disappearance from the consul as childish and comical and he repeated calls for saudi arabia to reveal the location of the journalist body as the saudi prosecutor handling the case will be traveling to istanbul to meet his turkish counterpart on sunday. of course there is other information and evidence that we are holding and they will be used when the time comes but there is no need to rush because in the first instance the saudi officials have to explain who killed. on monday they sent the chief prosecutor to stumble. they will meet with our chief prosecutor and have discussions. his fiance ingests spoken publicly in her first t.v. interview since his murder she waited outside while he went into the saudi consulate building now here's some of what she told turkey's harbor t.v. channel just a few hours ago she said president from syndication for her to visit the white

house was aimed at winning public support and she wouldn't go until the u.s. made more since efforts to teach edge in just demanded those who carried out the killing be tried and punished she said she received no calls from saudi arabia and that both she and jamal khashoggi were nervous before he entered the consulate building. and i got a good bunch that he was very happy and date on the basis that he was writing there because his close friends including other journalists and intellectuals and now in prison so there was a certain moral responsibility he had taken on he used to say the fact that i'm an american isn't just about me writing for the washington post i'm rushing things my friends table too i have the means to do this i have arranged for this to happen but at the same time he was incredibly lonely and an emotional scenes he was very lonely perhaps the reason why our relationship so quickly turned into an emotional
5:04 pm
one was because jamal in that period of his life was in search of someone to be with. correspondent outside that consulate building in istanbul so charles two significant developments today in this ongoing compelling. interview with jamal is fiance and also we've been hearing a slight change in tone i guess from mr. yeah i think it's pretty obvious that that change in tone has been made by him it all seems very well organized here on the to the side of this crisis is being described as a choreographed affair from the government and these threats keep coming and the language certainly used today by mr to one can quite easily be described as the strongest yates it's not going to go down very well certainly with the saudis being called childish and comical in the. story behind the
5:05 pm
president and as you say he has threatened to leak more information potentially that they have again as you know putting putting more pressure on them insisting that these eighteen figures or at least fifteen of them that it's believed very much central and responsible full the mode of tried in this country insisting that if they have been arrested in saudi arabia then surely somebody one of them at least knows where the body is demanding he's demanding to know where this body is he refers to the fact that the saudi prosecutor was coming over the weekend you can imagine. mr to want to certainly that's he should fish rules again putting more pressure on them on the saudis face to face we don't know what other evidence there that they have is but certainly in the days or indeed to the weeks the weeks before
5:06 pm
we have we've heard some very very damning evidence that that the turkish government to these government sources have leaked to us this idea of dismemberment and unbutton soules and cheery inside the consulate let's not forget that the circus government haven't officially come out and refuted any of this evidence that has been leaked. to us so an indication gets again that turkey. is increasing its threats and putting even more pressure on the saudis fronts as the actual investigation shows we spend three days talking to days rather talking about the well which is in the grounds of the consul general official residence not the consulate has that aspects of the inquiry now been put to bed. i would say it's been put to bed certainly the people that needed to go inside and
5:07 pm
already inspect those wells the those who have had the skill sets to get down to the bottom of that well inspect it thoughtfully and we understand that it is a more than twenty meters deep although the water level from which a softball was taken is around six meta this despite this agreement between the saudis and the that these these inspectors can go and still no word on that so. get again certainly what the have been suggesting is an example of the saudi side of the of biscuits not fully cooperating it was as you say more than a day ago now almost forty eight hours ago that we heard that. this was the intention that certainly they need to get in and thorough really inspect that well because obviously it would suggest it would be an obvious place to hide very damning evidence and it's fair to say even a body. charles thanks very much. some european countries continue to
5:08 pm
back away from working with the saudis because of the killing of jamal khashoggi the netherlands is now counsel to visit by a delegation of government and business leaders in december austria's foreign minister has also pulled out of a visit there next month the european parliament has passed a motion urging e.u. states to halt arms sales to saudi arabia paul brennan these thirty embassy in london for us this sir paul clearly as far as some of those e.u. governments are concerned for the time being that relationship is potentially too toxic. indeed i mean one of the reasons why is because of the pressure that's being kept on the saudi kingdom by protesters such as saw in my shoulder it's a it's a small handful of people outside the saudi embassy here in central london but it's one of many vigils which are taking place all across europe here in london in paris as well basically keeping the attention on the issue and not letting the saudi explanation get away without really intense scrutiny and it's that scrutiny which
5:09 pm
is causing concern to european leaders because without a clear definitive answer as to exactly how jamal khashoggi died we have got a body you see so no post-mortem and without a clear definitive answer as to how high up the plots to murder him goes the countries of europe are unsure as to how close they can continue to cooperate with saudi arabia you mentioned a couple of the countries who decided to keep saudi arabia at arm's length for the time being austria foreign minister spoken to develop one of the german newspapers calling for the european union as an as an entity to suspend arms sales to the saudis can and can he still basically echoing what germany has already done the dutch trade mission which was due to go to saudi arabia between december ninth and twelfth that's been counseled the european parliament has adopted a resolution this week basically yesterday calling for member states to impose an

e.u. wide arms embargo but that said there are certain chinks in the consensus the kremlin for example has come out and said that it has no reason to disbelieve the saudi kingdom when it says that the royal family was not involved in the kremlin spokesman dmitri peskov saying that it was inappropriate for journalists to question the official saudi version of events after the kremlin appears to be significant minority all thanks very much. ok let's go to another developing story for you this hour in the u.s. two more prominent public figures have been targeted by a wave of suspicious packages sent through the mail the f.b.i. confirming today a package was intercepted in florida to the u.s. democratic senator cory booker another package has been found at a new york postal center addressed to the former u.s. director of national intelligence james clapper now this makes a total of eleven packages sent to various leading figures many from the democratic
5:11 pm
party it all started on monday when a bomb was sent to party donor george soros two days later former presidents barack obama and bill clinton along with his wife hillary clinton and former cia director john brennan were also targeted the new york office of c.n.n. was also sent a bomb kimberly helka joins us live from washington kimberly just looking at the live pictures coming out of new york we've got what looks like specialist vehicles clearing a path on kind of urban jewel carriageways and block after block of new york pretty much in lockdown for understandable reasons. yeah and it's not the first day but this is continuing i believe we're now into our third day where ordinary americans going to work particularly in manhattan are finding their days disrupted by these scares and discoveries of yet another package now it's important to note none of these what appear to be pipe bombs explosive devices have actually detonated there
5:12 pm
is been a response from local officials federal officials and state officials as they coordinate their efforts to deal with this and there is some support pretty sophisticated protocols in place but this is certainly unnerving for ordinary americans given the fact that we are now having this for a third day and this is something that many given the targets they're all prominent democratic politicians or figures in clearing the fund raising efforts of george soros the billionaire who supports democratic causes they are all been targets of double trouble one of the frequent sort of scapegoats perhaps in some of his rallies and public rallies the president's received a lot of pushback about that peter in fact it seems to be keeping him up at night he was tweeting just after three am local time here in washington saying that one of the networks that received one of these packages in itself was the target c.n.n. he goes funny how lonely rated c.n.n.
5:13 pm
and others will criticize me at will even blaming me for the current spate of bombs a ridiculously comparing this to the september eleventh and the oklahoma city bombing yet when i criticize them they go wild and scream it's just not presidential well certainly the role of president peter is typically to be the consoler in chief at times like this and while the president has strongly condemned this many people feel that it is his behavior prior to these discoveries of these packages where he has been very open again some of these targets and in turn they have to him as well but expecting that he. in setting the example as the president the united states so indirectly saying that his behavior may have in some way contributed to this very divided political time that we find ourselves in we should note you know just a little over a week now until the americans go to the polls to choose their members of congress to control the u.s. congress in the next session and all the authorities anticipate you know a scenario here kimberly where you know on the one hand the president keeps on
5:14 pm
coming back critics with a kind of. stomps on the reaction to him and has he or has he not this miss fear that this may be a separate discussion on top of that clearly worried that you know there might be another package or another package the day after that. and i think that's where things stand at the moment is dealing with the potential imminent danger for ordinary americans which in many of color custom to specially if you live in new york city or washington d.c. or any of these other major metropolitan areas you're kind of our custom to having to live with a certain level of high security scrutiny bags searched the potential for. rogue backpack to be left on the subway system that this might be treated with some sort of caution i think where we stand where things stand right now is that officials are on high alert ordinary americans are on high alert in this investigation continues to widen we know that f.b.i.
5:15 pm
officials are treating this is domestic terrorism they've zeroed in on a mail facility in florida where they believe that many of these packages were process as they continue to try and search for exactly for clues to who may be behind this plot just looking at the bigger picture of domestic terrorism here you mentioned in our conversation yesterday kimberly attended a really interesting talking about the anthrax attacks and i think three or four postal workers lost their lives when that happened it was also timothy mcveigh in the mid ninety's the oklahoma five ok it was timothy mcveigh in the oklahoma city bombing do americans have more of a problem does it generate more fear if it's domestic. quotes terrorism because the level they come to feel more comfortable if it's people or if they feel threatened by people who they perceive as being different was being formed from the us. you know it's hard for me to gauge that one maybe it's because i didn't grow up in the united states i grew up in canada so well this is not my adopted home i had
5:16 pm
moved to the united states just a few years before the september eleventh attacks occurred and it was radically different for me to experience that compared to the culture i grew up in canada so i might not be best suited to answer that but i could tell you that what this is now is a generation that has sort of grown up with this i have a seventeen year old son who was born ten days after the nine eleven attacks he knows nothing else except this way of life and that would be true for everyone who was born after him where someone like myself remembers a time when you could walk right up to the gate of the airplane and say goodbye to your loved one those days are gone in the united states and so i think that there there's a generation like myself who who notices and sort of longs for the past and then there's a younger generation that knows nothing else and is accepted that if you live in the united states there is particularly in some of these targeted buildings like federal buildings that represent the government where many are inclined to push back in that because this is a revolutionary society the american culture was built on revolution
5:17 pm
a little history lesson in leaving the imperial crown so there is that undercurrent there and there are likely always will be because that is american history and often these symbols of government as we're seeing right now whether it's the director of national intelligence whether it's the nine hundred ninety five oklahoma city federal building bombing there will always be that aspect to the united states and there will be those americans who will stand up and fight for it and say that we all are entitled to live peacefully safely without that inherent risk and there is always i believe going to be that kind of tension but this is certainly a new degree of it post september eleventh attacks whether it's domestic or whereas there is foreign i think americans have accepted some sort of inherent risk by living in the united states understood kimberly many things. still to come here on al-jazeera at least twenty one people were killed during flooding in jordan most of the victims are students who go on a school trip. hello
5:18 pm
there is mostly fine for us in the southeast and parts of china at the moment lots of dry weather to be found here there is a fair amount of cloud for the west that is just drifting its way and that will just push it further northwards as we head through sunday say for some of us in chongqing there will be more in the way of cloud in the chance of seeing one or two showers those showers will also be affecting us in the phone northern parts of vietnam to out towards the west a measure also drawing weather to be found here over parts of sri lanka where we've got the majority of the wet weather currently that's all part of a system that is in the bay of bengal that is pushing its way westward so for the eastern coast of india there's more chance of seeing some wet weather in the coming days but as we head through the day on sunday most of us should still stay dry so rather warm for many of us at the my roots as well not poor up to thirty two of the

new delhi we're up at around thirty one for the arabian peninsula has more in the way of wet weather for us there's some very heavy downpours for the southwest impala several around the f.s.f. today that really does look very nasty and as that sinks its way southwards it'll still be giving one or two pockets of or all the heavy rain as we head through the day on sunday so we're likely to see some of those showers here in doha hands and towards the west we could see some in riyadh as well to the south of that though it should stay fine and dry. short documentaries from around the world about those who won't give up their fight for justice. al-jazeera selects.

welcome back you're watching al-jazeera i'm reminded of your top stories the turkish president says investigators have more evidence in the killing of jamal khashoggi which will be revealed when the time comes the one described as explanations for the journalists childish he's also demanding real disclose the location of. the journalist fiance has given her first t.v. interview since his death was confirmed in a conversation with the turkish broadcaster who. had not wanted to go to the saudi

consulate but she entered on october the second before being killed. also this hour two more prominent public figures in the u.s. have been targeted by a wave of suspicious packages sent through the mail one addressed the democratic senator cory booker the other to the former u.s. director of national intelligence james clapper. the u.n. special envoy to syria staff and in a story is briefing the u.n. security council on his latest trip to syria along with government officials in damascus he was there to discuss the formation of a constitutional committee de mistura is set stand down from his position at the end of next month james bays joins us live from the united nations so james what's he been saying. well it sounds like his meeting in damascus did not go at all well let's remember what he was trying to do he's been trying for nine months to get this constitutional committee up and running he's tried to have
5:22 pm
peace talks all the time that he's been a special envoy for four years he's focusing on this one part of it which is trying to get a new constitution for syria so he achieves at least one thing before he departs the role at the end of november now the constitutional committee is supposed to be made up of delegates from the government delegates from the opposition and some representing civil society in syria there's been the sticking point because the syrian government has not agreed that list when he went to damascus and met the syrian deputy prime minister and foreign minister lim he was told that he really didn't have the authority to come up with this list in terms of the syrian government they believe that they are the ones that should be in charge of this process they say it's a sovereign matter for the government of syria so he was clearly marked around when he was in damascus by the syrian government now in the security council some of the western nations of attack the syrian government but they've also attacked their

russian allies listen to the british ambassador karen pearce and even russia has given the u.n. and this council assurances it has proved too weak to deliver or it was all this cynical smic screen designed to dying that attention and energy well russia syria and iran prosecuted the military campaign. very damning comments there and a very depressing security council meeting because it seems no progress has been made but it is worth telling you the reason i think they're having a security council meeting taking place in new york today is there's a fresh effort at diplomacy taking place on saturday in is stamboul when the french president the german chancellor the turkish president will all be meeting there with the russians with loud amir putin to try and get some progress
5:24 pm
on this so a lot of calling out of russia and of the syrian government and i think they're hoping that pressure may result in the some movement that important meeting coming up on saturday james thanks very much a search and rescue operations underway near the dead sea in jordan after deadly flash flooding there at least twenty one people were killed thirteen of them children on a school trip they were caught when suddenly heavy rains sent water surging from higher ground up the jordan valley sweeping away people below a search is underway for possible survivors civil defense officials are expecting the death toll to rise officials say it's one of the deadliest incidents in the kingdom's history to involve school children. bill hamid is there. search and rescue operations have continued throughout friday even though there was little hope since the morning to find anyone alive that said one body was found in
5:25 pm
the afternoon bringing the total number of that so far to twenty one there are still some missing it's unclear whether their bodies might be at the morgue or still haven't been recovered from either the mountainous areas or maybe in the dead sea now there are still many questions certainly about a lot around the decision of the school to changes the trip from the area where they were initially supposed to go which is in another part in the other part of this country and who decided for them to come here without getting official permission from the ministry of education it has to be said that among the school children today it is also the daughter of the director of that school now king abdullah is also taking a close attention to this according to the official news agency here he will be presiding over
5:26 pm
a meeting in which all the different sectors departments of the. civil defense and the police will be meeting trying to understand what happened this time to try to avoid it next time ok let's just get you a brief kind of update on an ongoing story pretty much every friday we're covering it here on al-jazeera a renewed fighting taking place right now along the israel gaza border we're going to show the latest live pictures you can see there the combustibility of the situation more than two hundred people have died since so much of the time which palestinians are demanding the right to return to their homes to their homes and the land their families were expelled from seventy years ago this is the thirty first consecutive friday march of a term palestinian health ministry saying a man has been killed by israeli fire. in fresh clashes on the border we're waiting for confirmation on that particular aspect of that on going story there benjamin netanyahu has made the first state visit to
