far. what we saw here was a celebration of democracy the people who. went into the streets colleagues my children my family. people just. sat down in a square on a bench and started to speak with people. and what we saw was an awakening of people as to what was at play in this election this is. what we're seeing is. principles are being put to the test.

we had twenty sixteen when president dilma was impeached we had the unfair imprisonment of president lula the failure to follow the u.n. resolution but we move forward with courage to take our message to all corners of this country to the urban centers to the far. flung places of the country to all. religions of angelakos and catholics to all brazilians. to ensure that we got our message out to the whole country that the national sovereignty than to democracy as we understand it is a value above all of us we are
8:03 am
a nation we will defend it from anyone who would in a disrespectful way. we're not just talking about democracy in the form of understanding of it we're talking about civil rights of political rights. labor rights and social rights that is what is at play right now. so we had a sneaking bed to the workers' party candidate and and i had who has conceded defeat in brazil's presidential election he got something like forty four percent all the votes had ads kornel the election a celebration of democracy though despite has lost but also interestingly calling the impatient of his formal potted colleague and former president general who said
8:04 am
. and the imprisonment of former president lula for corruption fair we are watching developments in brazil for you and will bring you any more news as we get more reaction from brazil. but let's go back now to the murder investigation and to the journalist jamal khashoggi we're joined now by human rights lawyer if the car his life arises from chicago mr always good to have you with us on al-jazeera so as we were reporting saudis most senior prosecutor has arrived in istanbul to what extent do you think he'll actually fully cooperate with investigators. well elizabeth i think it's a lot early in the game to be making any sort of analysis as we move forward in this legal investigation i think two things are very important number one is
8:05 am
transparency there needs to be transparency in terms of the legal process that these fifteen or eighteen men the suspects are going to face within saudi arabia and number two more importantly actually is accountability these fifteen or eighteen men did not act alone they were orders from up on high within the saudi government and so we really need to see you know how high the chain of command goes in how willing the saudi government is going to be to our you know essentially prosecute one of their top government officials so i think these two things are really going to be quite telling in the coming days weeks and months when you talk about one of the top officials who are you referring to because so far there's been talk about these you know eighteen individuals the calls from turkey to extradite them continue but the reports are that the orders that these individuals were acting or from the highest authority were from the crown prince so who are we talking about here and how likely is it that he won't be implicated all face
8:06 am
punishment. well i think those are two separate interesting questions elizabeth you know he might be politically implicated but at the end of the day somebody lower within the real court might actually fall on the sword legally speaking i think there's something important in terms of extradition i think that there is literally zero percent chance that these men will be extradited to turkey under international law most consulates and embassies even though there are located geographically in foreign countries are technically considered are the soil of that country and so this murder actually technically did take place on saudi arabian soil from an international legal perspective so the extradition argument is not going to win and i think it's going to be really interesting to see whether it's going to be an intelligence you know high ranking intelligence official in the saudi government or it's going to be one of the you know the n.b.s. is fellow royals oh who falls on the sword up but even though there might be
8:07 am
a political implication you know proving that he was the one who gave the order and while we you know went to find out what will happen as the investigation continues there are more lions every day the latest today is that the saudi consul chief was in the same far as that investigators have been searching for question on day the day before his murder what do you make not just of the information but the fact that the turks continue to release damaging information about the saudis potentially damaging his. i think the important thing to keep in mind is that you know it really legally speaking it really doesn't matter if they find what shocked you body or not and the reason that i say this is that usually in a murder investigation you know values are usually needed in order to get the any evidence in order to implicate someone decided have already admitted that they killed him so again he is dead he was murdered he was murdered by saudi nationals so again the body is really legally immaterial at this point and so now the
8:08 am
important thing is going to be who are the people that are going to be indicted and then more importantly is there going to be any command responsibility or little in date high ranking officials whether it's intelligence officials or members of the crown family in terms of what if order in the legal recourse that we see in the days weeks and months to come if the class action as always for your time and your analysis we do appreciate it if they can live in chicago thank you. thank you elizabeth. we have plenty more ahead on the news all including tensions run high in sri lanka but sat prime minister rather. meant. to city fans pay tribute to those killed in a helicopter crash including the team's owner. and in sports we'll hear from those haven't been on what it's like to be a five time for me to want the world champion. the

you continue your question it will be counterproductive because you know when you get the body also it will be a health problem of health is one of the main concerns for survivors with more than two hundred thousand displaced many living in camps with poor sanitation and approaching rainy season will increase the risk of outbreaks of dengue fever or malaria. slightly more study shelters are being built on the outskirts of palu when many of those left homeless will need to stay for a long time in some of the affected areas life is back to normal markets are flourishing once again in others little has changed since the earthquake with the remains of buildings left to wait for the wrecking machines people affected by this disaster will of course need ongoing support and rehabilitating the surrounding areas properly will be a slow process the concern is that indonesia is a disaster prone country meaning that attention and resources may soon be diverted

elsewhere if that happens plans for a better safer city may be put to the side in favor of a quick rebuild but for so many survivors there's no contemplating the future just yet it's still about trying to comprehend what happens. i still don't have a job i don't know what kind of work i'm still confused i want to keep looking for my son but i don't know where else to go or we haven't gone to stay in a refugee camp yet because i'm still focusing on finding my son. in central sulawesi a lingering sense of shock and despair is mixed with the beginning of recovery from a distance the bay and city a calm now but survivors will never forget the destruction unleashed a month ago and those they lost wayne hey al jazeera indonesia. now the german army has sent its top brigade to lead nato his biggest military exercises since the cold war but fifty thousand personnel from all twenty nine nato
