the takeover of the house is a rebuke to president donald trump who held dozens of rallies and explicitly made the mid terms into a referendum on his leadership he campaigned furiously in the final days relentlessly stoking fear of a column of the draggled migrants slowly making their way through mexico to the u.s. border if you want more caravans if you want more crime vote democrat tomorrow that may actually have hurt republican incumbents in more moderate suburban house districts because exit polling showed the most important issue to most voters was health care democrats campaigned heavily on preserving and shoring up the affordable care act turnout was extremely high for a midterm election long lines formed in states from coast to coast often extending

good for a president it constrains a president but he is gaining seats in the senate that makes it easier for him to make top appointments of judges and generals maybe some of those ambassador posts that are still missing around the world although that many of those have not been nominated yet by the administration and of course makes it easier for him if he is as is believed to be the case going to be going to be having some sort of reshuffle of this midterm election and i'm sure they'll be questions about that too but of course. as he is now constrained in creating legislation that's going to affect what he does domestically and it does suggest perhaps this is a president who in the last two years of this term will dive into foreign policy and that's interesting ajay and so in light of that how are these results of the midterms being viewed around the world. very very closely watched to be speaking to

diplomats here in washington between two ambassadors to the u.n. in new york they always watch this very closely as a barometer of what's going to happen next president knows that in fact in one of his tweets already he said receive so many congratulations including from foreign nations that are that were waiting me out and hoping on trade deals so there he's saying that there are some nations thinking well we can wait another two years of trump of trumps not to be the next president and now he thinks perhaps they're going to negotiate with him he's raising the prospect of trade deals nations worried about that i think they're worried about other things too particularly multilateralism international cooperation around the world we've seen the actions of this administration pulling out of the iran nuclear deal we saw pulling out of the paris climate change deal and not particularly friendly to branches of the united nations particularly with regard to the palestinians and their agency that looks after palestinians. another of the important things to look forward to in the

more reflective of the overall u.s. population but you're also going to see is one in four of the house of representatives actually being a woman and so that's going to mean that you're going to have more people coming in with different life experiences with different ideas on how to solve the problems facing the country as well as improving its standing around the world you're going to see not just stop political activists and people who are running to try to improve things such as education or health care but you're also going to see people with considerable military experience considerable business experience and people who are saying that there has to be a much broader vision of what the united states is and what the united states government should be doing for his approximately three hundred twenty million citizens of course what also is going to be important will be the breadth of political experience the democratic representation is going to be much more liberal

than it has been for really the last twenty years or so since the days when bill clinton was the us president and so there's going to be a real generational discussion on the democratic side on how to grow the party as we proceed into the twenty first century republicans for their part say that they realize that they have a problem trying to attract young people trying to attract people of color so-called ethnic minorities and winchell minorities and they say that they have to find a way to broaden their base so that they can remain competitive as their largely older and whiter. supporters start to die out so this is really going to be of time energy how much legislation is going to get passed well that's really anyone's guess and it really depends on whether both sides to them to be by. but with. the corner i predict that you will you see probably about the same amount of
