had with the journalist before his murder khaled bin solomon was quick to deny the allegation saying on twitter i never talk to him by phone and certainly never suggested he go to turkey for any reason i asked the u.s. government to release any information regarding this claim. within hours several other news organizations including the new york times and the wall street journal also quoting anonymous officials confirming the report of the cia's finding although it is very important it's very significant that what the washington post new york times. c m b c n n other outlets over the hours. reported that the cia internal assessment now is pointing straight years. in some as having ordered this operation this has never happened before at the cia

reforming the whole range of politics in saudi arabia the economy as well and he was forging forward with a new type of political arrangement with the united states and cooperation over. iran in cooperation with israel a whole range of foreign policy issues with donald trump so now we have a situation we're seeing vividly now the washington post going out with this report unusually phrased people familiar with the matter of the sources it's bold journalism it's been followed up by a number of other major media houses and the pressure is on the white house now to call its shots in this situation because it stands accused by many in congress and many in turkey many in the europeans well the white house stands accused of being very slow to make its mind up on

a course of action announcing through the treasury these sanctions seventeen members of the saudis establishment you might call the security establishment but they're key figures within the plot they're not anyone who ordered the plot as such so this is seen as a very weak measure by congress congress is calling for something much firmer and of course the cia has not formally briefed congress yet as it's expected to do certainly soon ok andrea does it also mean something else does it mean that when gina housefull returned to washington and briefed donald trump we understand inside the white house because she had a seven hour sit down with her turkish opposite numbers as well as giving him her interpretation of what she thought she'd been hearing she actually had heard that tape which makes up the list of hard dates that the cia is now talking about in the past twelve hours or so out of their building their washington headquarters.

of it pointing in a certain direction whether there was a smoking gun that is a key question and one that might be very relevant in the coming hours the coming days perhaps the coming weeks but the bottom line is congress wants to hear a full report from the cia it has the power of subpoenaing. jeana herself if need be to give to testify before it she can say no on the grounds of national security but the bottom line is there is now a situation whereby all eyes are on donald trump as to what he intends to do because what he has done so far will not really tame the beast that is now taking a charge towards riyadh thanks very much and i'm concerned and joins us from anchorage what do you think mr de wine or the political establishment in turkey will do now with this information from the cia.

saying this remains primarily and a little conclusion rather than one that has a smoking gun. and of course your reading of these denials from the crown prince's brother lead been some on the passage to washington from riyadh saying i never had those conversations with jamal khashoggi i never offered him reassurance and ever said to him go to the consulate you will be ok i mean obviously the embassador earth does not want to open himself up to the question that if indeed he had that safety how much did he know in advance of what was going to happen is double and so obvious and the other thing is that he clearly wants to shield everybody at that level with didn't the saudi government but many association that would have and that's the way i see the denial. let's talk about

another denial or perhaps a change of narrative up until a point forty eight hours ago by our tallying the saudis to change their narrative four times within the past thirty six hours i reckon they tried to change it again to say he administered or he was administered with a very powerful sedative and that was when things started to go wrong what do we learn about the saudi mindset when it comes to this that so close to the cia saying what they've said in the past twenty four hours in washington they're still trying to change the timeline and the narrative here of what they claim really happened inside that building on october the second i think that the advantage of cherokee in the last six weeks as well as the problem that in the south but he's up to a fun thing as well as those that would like to shield the clown prince from what is

happening is that the saudis simply have not been able to develop one ear and story that seems to be better able and that they can maintain it if the fact that they have continuously had to change their story and contradict themselves undermines a credibility. and should the united states because crucially now donald trump has got to react one assumes to what the cia and saying. i mean the kingdom still claims saudi arabia i mean still claims not to know where the body is or what happened to the body i think the problem is that clearly. well there were the saudis that put forward raises more questions than answers that and the longer this takes the more difficult it gets to balance in others what subject it's
