miami really is a place where two worlds meet we can get to washington d.c. two hours but you can see it on jurists in the rest of central america about the same time but more importantly two cultures north and south america have to teach a very important place for. this is al jazeera. hello i'm adrian for getting this is the news hour live from doha coming up in the next sixty minutes so he's lying about a project that everybody knew about the u.s. president donald trump reacts to his former lawyer as admission that he lied to congress during the rush or investigation just ahead of his arrival at the g. twenty summit trump cancels plans to meets with russia's president vladimir putin.
5:01 am
the democratic republic of congo facing the world's second largest outbreak of ebola. and freedom replaced by fear people in sellable speak out about an internet crackdown months before elections. pressure is building on u.s. president donald trump after his former lawyer admitted lying to congress michael cohen says he made false statements last year during an investigation into alleged russian interference in the twenty sixteen presidential election al-jazeera as patty cohen reports from washington. mobbed by reporters michael cohen said nothing leaving the court but inside a guilty plea he lied to congress now admitting that he was trying to arrange a real estate deal in moscow during the time it was clear donald trump would be the republican candidate that cohen was in fact going to travel to russia. to work on
5:02 am
the deal and that now president trump knew about it all things cohen had previously denied bruce fein worked in the justice department and he says this is a big deal so this is a time where we have a criminal information that identifies the president himself secondly it also indicates that president trump or then candidate trump felt vulnerable if it was known that he was dealing in russian enterprises or because he would need to curry the favor of mr putin nothing happens in russia of importance without mr putin's approval the president dismissed the news in his usual fashion badmouthing his former top aide he's a weak person. by being weak not like other people that you watch he's a weak person and what he's trying to do is get a reduced sentence so he's lying about a project that everybody knew about i mean we were very open to where the koan did plead guilty to crimes that completely related to trump pain of women who trump had
5:03 am
an affair with so they would stay quiet before the election and while it might not have been illegal to do a deal in russia while he is under investigation for potentially colluding with russia to win the election it would have looked suspicious this makes six six close aides to the president have now pled guilty as part of the special counsel's probe democrats say this is bad for the president you've got all these closest associates of the president. one after another pleading guilty often pleading guilty about their ties to russia and russians and what are they covering up for and we also have a white house that still seems just obsessed about this investigation it's believed the special counsel has filed several indictments that are still under seal which means it is quite likely michael cohen won't be the last to face the cameras or the core. al jazeera washington of zeros mike hanna is also following this story he
5:04 am
joins us now live from washington so mike what are the wider implications here of cohen's mission for the mall investigation and for the president himself. well the key issue here is that michael cohen said in the court papers that he had lied to congress in order not to publicly contradict a person listed as individual one in those court papers individual one is donald trump donald trump throughout the presidential campaign publicly stated on a number of occasions that he had no business dealings of any kind in russia he continued to insist after he became president mcmichael cohen's evidence is that until at least june twenty sixth in. the business dealings continued more than that michael cohen's evidence says individual one donald trump directed operations was in constant consultation with himself also with other members of individual ones
5:05 am
family so this in a way is damning evidence but the truly important thing about it all is that for the first time the special counsel robert mueller has got donald trump right in his crosshairs he's named he's pointed to and he is shown to be actively engaging with russian individuals while taking part in a campaign which intelligence sources had told him was being influenced by russian factors like many thanks indeed. in washington clear finkelstein is the director of the sense of ethics and the rule of law at the university of pennsylvania law school she joins us now live via skype from philadelphia good to have you with us so what does michael cohen's of mission actually tell us about president trump and his campaign's relations with the russians and and how badly does all of this rub off on the president. well this has significant implications for the president because michael cohen suggest to that he lied when he told the members of congress
5:06 am
that the president's dealings with moscow stopped in january of two thousand and sixteen whereas in fact that continued well into june after donald trump was already named the republican nominee for president not only does that suggest that donald trump lawit on numerous occasions but it also suggested that members of his family were involved in this and that they lied john jr in particular last year testified before congress and there's a strong suggestion that he may have lied about some of the very same issues and finally there's an important question here which is whether or not the president encouraged both his son and his former lawyer to lie to congress and that would be the crime of subornation of perjury encouraging someone else to lie which as you may remember was one of the impeachment charges against president
5:07 am
clinton because he had encouraged monica lewinsky to sign a false affidavit about the nature of her contact with bill clinton so there could be significant remicade ramifications for the president in the content of this guilty plea ok so how does this advance that the mona investigation and tons of actually coming as a scout but also in terms of claiming. someone who clearly since we cooperating in that with the investigation is as mr cohen is is doing. well that's right this is the first time that robert muller has brought charges himself directly against michael cohen the previous charges were from the u.s. attorney's office so that michael cohen now in taking this guilty plea almost certainly would not be doing that without a strong cooperation agreement with robert muller and that suggests that he is getting that robert mueller is getting value out of michael cohen as we see
5:08 am
emerging that any way in which he may have been holding back is probably going to be dispelled now and that michael cohen will be a fully cooperating witness and there's an awful lot that he can tell about donald trump's business dealings and other matters that will seriously implicate the president and say probably it long. and also don jr ok i'm going to say that would now impeachment does this make that the whole ongoing question of of impeachment now that that little bit like he'll. it doesn t. because it suggests that first of all the president has been consistently untruthful with the american people and while that is not necessarily a high crime or misdemeanor the degree to which republican members of congress are willing to continue supporting him when he's been dishonest with them and when
5:09 am
members of his family have been dishonest with them and that may start to wear thin at some point but another concern is that there are looks as though there was a massive defense agreement between the president members of his inner circle members of his campaign hall man of fort and that may even have involved the russians in a continuing way into his presidency and if that's the case then we really do have a clear case of collusion and a possible. plan with the russians a conspiracy to obstruct justice with russian a systems so the obstruction of justice subornation of perjury and then of course we don't know whether or not the president was truthful in answering the questions
5:10 am
that he supplied to robert muller last week that could be another source very problematic for the president if he lied on those forms could still see many thanks indeed political sign that from the pennsylvania middle school. world leaders are gathering in argentina for this year's g. twenty summit but saudi crown prince mohammed bin solomon's presence has overshadowed the broader agenda and global trade tension fueled by u.s. president donald trump's trade war china is expected to dominate this year's event risible reports from one of. the mothers of class of emanuel have been demanding to know the whereabouts of their missing children since they disappeared during argentina's dictatorship forty years ago. the g twenty gives them a chance to take their message to a wider audience and. the city is under siege it seems like we're under curfew but

we made it here and once again we call on world leaders to stop the policies that create hunger poverty and that hurt the working class. they were into thousands of people are promising to take over the streets of one side is on friday in spite of these protests this is a historic event for argentina and an opportunity to be at the center of world affairs even though there are several issues overshadowing the main objective which is to build consensus on crucial issues like climate change and inequality. among them the presence of saudi crown prince mohammed bin solomon and the request by human rights watch to investigate him over the murder of journalism i because of the. skilling has changed relations between saudi and the western world. in one way mark on says he's ready to talk to the crown prince about what happened should usually take care of sure i have always been very clear in the case of saudi arabia and i will inevitably have the opportunity to discuss it with the saudi

crown prince on the margins of this g. twenty meeting we will have the opportunity to discuss it among european leaders as i requested before the g. seven donald trump arrived in when a site is on thursday evening ready to discuss the trade war between the united states and china he's cancer. he's meeting with russian president vladimir putin after the seizure of crane and ships by russia of the crimean peninsula. these protesters came all the way from the united states carrying a baby trump balloon he's been an activist opposing the u.s. foreign policy since the vietnam war we would like the president of the united states that are a little bit more mature adults if i was going to boil it down to just one statement it would be that we think it's asinine that he's on twitter we think it's asinine that he's casual and that he. picks fights seems to want to take the smallest and lowest road instead of the high the g twenty begins proper on friday
5:13 am
this mass yoga session was organized to help leaders concentrate on resoldering their differences. the protest around when a site is will remind them how hard that task is likely to be. by that when. there are several issues that could indeed dominate this change twenty summit to what extent that with the presence of the saudi crown prince overshadowed the g. twenty. well a lot of things have already overshadowed the build up we are talking about the things that the people behind the g. twenty and global leaders would like to discuss instead we're talking about who donald trump is going to meet and we know we know he's not going to be lied to me a piton we also know that mohammed bin selman is not on his shed he's not expected to meet the crone prince at the crown prince arrived here in in argentina on wednesday since then he has been at this over the embassy has had no meetings he
5:14 am
was due to have a meeting with president of argentina that hasn't happened and so everyone is going to have their eyes on who he meets who shakes hands with who he talks to who sits next to dinner what sort of interactions they have to see whether or not mohammed bin selman is being welcomed back into the international fold you'll remember that a senior saudi royal said just at the weekend that look if you want to talk a corner me and you want to talk things like oil prices then you have to talk to the saudi government and that means mohamed bin selman so that has really overshadowed what is coming up here in argentina along with the trade row between the united states and china and also what happened in the waters off ukraine at the weekend and who will speak to president putin. side issues that have dominated rather than the main agenda the u.n. secretary general is the point of his how does he think the world leaders should
5:15 am
approach these things dominating issues. well there's no doubt that there's a frustration on his part he sees very important issues that have to be scuffed and addressed globally global issues global action he's talking about things like climate change he thinks that should be top of everyone's agenda at the moment and he's also talking about the global economy because there are some experts who are predicting that there could well be another recession maybe not as bad as two thousand and eight but certainly getting to a level that would cause untold misery for numerous people around the globe so he wants there to be global action to deal with global problems it is clear that all the events of. the season at the. g twenty meeting in which people can go subjects more effectively even though they're seeing the problems of the global the problems the. obvious but we
5:16 am
should. stop at the rest of the central problems of all of that just because. there was a problem of the. seriousness of the woman. i asked him how do you deal with an issue when there are so many side issues how do you get everyone concentrating and pointing in the same direction and he said well you tell me how we do that i pointed out i'm not the u.n. secretary general this is a job he's got to do and it shows perhaps his frustration that maybe he doesn't quite know how to do that he's got to weak sure that he gets everyone pointing in the same direction no there's a hope that at the end of the g twenty there will be a communique from all nations that hasn't happened at the last big international summit in asia pacific and all. i'm sorry appear to have lost all of the just as a footnote to what i was saying the saudi press agency was talking has issued

5:31 am
regions of the world they've had almost continuously violence for practically twenty years and you might say well what does violence and conflict have to do with disease well what happens is that collapses the whole health system infrastructure so when you want to be concerned about safe aerials which are a big problem during outbreaks or contacting potentially individuals this presents a really tough problem for health workers work area the good news is that we have a vaccine that didn't have the vaccine on hand but the twenty fourteen outbreak in west africa that we have a very effective and relatively safe vaccine available now. so that's the good news and so far more than thirty thousand doses of vaccine that's been deployed but the problem is working in such an unstable area you have to ensure the safety of the health of the vaccinators and you have to be able to trace intentional contacts and get vaccinated so in theory this should be. a non-problem
5:32 am
we should be able to quickly contain this through use of the vaccine but because the massive political instability one of the most difficult parts of the world that really slows things down and unfortunately so far more than two hundred people perished one of the youngest palestinian children imprisoned in israel has been released he spent almost three years behind bars accused of plotting an attack which he denies the name reports from ramallah his case highlights concerns about the mistreatment of palestinian children arrested by israeli forces. with three birthdays spent in prison fifteen year old child the far right fevered the media attention after crossing the colony a checkpoint in the occupied west bank and returning home to palestinian sources. the best feeling in the world the feeling of freedom nothing like it. was twelve
