stories every time. she can produce and do something that you got a new lease of money on al-jazeera. the g. twenty summit is underway in argentina where the u.s. china trade dispute threatens to overshadow proceedings the saudi crown prince is in buenos aires where he may face some tough questions from leaders over the matter of journalist jamal khashoggi. back to boyer watching al-jazeera live from my headquarters in doha also ahead tensions with moscow over ukraine also in the spotlight of the g twenty as the
5:01 pm
ukrainian government brock's russian men of military age from entering the country and we look at why tourism is booming in the holy land and what it means for palestinian. thank you for joining us world leaders have gathered in argentina for the annual g twenty summit with a background of controversy and simmering disputes top of the agenda and when osiris will likely be the trade war between the two biggest economies the united states and china have imposed tariffs on each other's imports this year leading to concerns about a global ripple effects but there is some positive trade news the u.s. mexico and canada have signed a new trade agreements replacing not a u.s. president had pressured his neighbors into negotiating a new pact saying not to was unfair to the u.s. and bad for american workers. this is a model agreement that changes the trade landscape forever and this is an agreement
5:02 pm
that first and foremost benefits working people something of great importance to all three of us here today president. i must say opinion and prime minister today. we work toward of this agreement has been long and hard we've taken a lot of barbs and a little abuse and we got there it's great for all of our countries but overshadowing the two day summit in argentina is a matter of jamal the saudi crown princess face protests and me get complaints against his attendants over his alleged role in the journalist's killing and a meeting between russian leader vladimir putin and donald trump has been called all five to sunday's naval confrontation between russia and ukraine in the black sea it's led to pressure in the u.s. and e.u. to consider a new sanctions against moscow while we have correspondents in buenos aires several
5:03 pm
of them in fact in a moment we'll speak to alan fischer about the controversy and the presence of the saudi crown prince in what is are as is standing by at the theater where leaders will attend a cultural event in just a few hours but first we go to kimberly hall and get was that the cost of the argentinean president's mansion kimberly last talk about with you as well because a number of issues on the table let's talk about trade for us and this new deal between mexico the united states and canada that's come up after tough negotiations as president trump said that when will it come into effect. well that is contingent on it being ratified at least for the united states in the u.s. congress and that proves challenging for donald trump given the fact that democrats will in january control the house of representatives of the lower chamber of commerce congress now donald trump at that signing did shrugged off those concerns
5:04 pm
saying he doesn't think it'll be a problem this is a largely symbolic at the moment for donald trump because of the necessary ratification it should be easier to push through for canada and mexico and even canada not completely happy with the language the fact that the tariffs on steel and aluminum remain in place is something that they don't like in fact just giving a sense of how canada was not feeling entirely comfortable with all of this justin trudeau the canadian prime minister would not refer to it as the u.s. m.c.a. putting canada at the end of the new agreement instead he referred to it as the new nafta now for mexico this is significant it's a significant achievement for the president to this is last official day in office and we should note mexico also in the same day but at a separate location the stoat at the highest order in mexico on donald trump's son in law jared cushion or for his efforts negotiating this deal there is also another
5:05 pm
trade issue on the table and that one between china and the united states the two leaders set to meet on saturday tomorrow what can we expect from that has there been any progress any hope of progress on trade with china. well both sides are expressing optimism but at the same time many are wondering how it's going to be possible the president's chief economic advisor larry kudlow saying that an agreement could only come into effect if china changes its practices what they call predatory trade practices the theft of intellectual property the dumping of cheap chinese goods into the united states and cyber attacks now china believes on for its part that it has made significant concessions but the united states doesn't see it that way so donald trump has left this open maybe there will be a deal maybe there won't if there isn't a deal guess what tariffs going even higher for china come january up to twenty five percent there will be in
5:06 pm
a crease of more than two hundred billion chinese goods into the united states so this is an escalating trade war one that many are optimistic could be temp down but it's no guarantee all right so president trump is meeting she paying tomorrow kimberly but is he oh is he not going to meet put in russia this is a bit of conflicting information coming out of the kremlin about this. yeah conflicting information and here is what's going on so there has been a suggestion coming out of russia that there could be a bit of a polish side that happens during these meetings now this is not the bilateral that had been counseled by donald trump and certainly it's in the best interests of russia to suggest that this meeting might be taking place it's not it's still canceled donald trump did that in a tweet as he was on board air force one on the way to argentina the reason he says is because russia has not returned those twenty four sailors of those scenes three
5:07 pm
ukrainian vessels as part of that naval clash that happened last week so the meeting is still off now having said that while the u.s. is trying to downplay this it's not unusual for russia to try and play it up in fact we should point out that these things happen all the time polish size happen all the time they're all in the same room it's very possible they're going to bump into one another in fact the first opportunity where this could take place could be coming up in about an hour when we see the g. twenty leaders assembling for a class photo all right thank you kimberly for that can really help get live in buenos aires that saw speak to another of our correspondents in argentina as capital that's. just moments ago not long ago we saw the saudi crown prince mohammed bin salman being welcomed by argentina's president just moments ago the argentine president had welcomed turkey's leader go on how much is mohamed been summoned presence at this summit in the wake of jamal khashoggi matter in
5:08 pm
turkey clouding the event. well i think we'll see that as the coming hours and for certainly what president mackey was doing was the formalities that are expected of him as the host of the g. twenty we know that the saudi crown prince arrived here in argentina on wednesday on thursday in a meeting with the indian prime minister madre there was no discussion according to the official readout of the meeting of the jamal khashoggi case we know that the mere pittance of russia is also going to meet with the crown prince they're going to talk about putin's visit to saudi arabia we know that like to be a poet and has not said anything at all in the jamal khashoggi case he clearly doesn't want to criticize one nation for taking action against a citizen in another country some would say that is for obvious reasons theresa may u.k. prime minister she says she is going to meet with jamal khashoggi story with the saudi crown prince over the next couple of hours and she is going to talk about
5:09 pm
jamal khashoggi she's also going to talk about the continuing war in yemen an arch saudi arabia to get involved in peace talks what she is not going to discuss according to the official read out is the fact that the united kingdom continues to be one of saudi arabia's biggest suppliers of weapons the french president he is going to speak to mohammed bin salman as well and he says he is going to raise the jamal khashoggi case the saudis would love to have a meeting with donald trump donald trump has been very public and the support for the saudi government and also for mohammed bin solomon himself but of course he says that there was no time in his shed jill to sit down with the saudi crown prince if donald trump wanted to make that happen it could happen and this kimberly rightly pointed out this is a meeting where twenty leaders are going to be in a room and so pull the sites happen all the time so there's every possibility that at some point over the next couple of days we will see donald trump shake hands with mohammed bin some of how other countries react well that is going to be
5:10 pm
important but there are norms to be observed here. the g. twenty there is diplomacy that has to be carried out no one is going to walk up and insult the saudi crown prince no one is going to snub them publicly but there may not be the conversations. we normally had but as one leading saudi royals said at the weekend if you're talking about the global economy if you're talking about oil prices you simply can't afford to ignore so you abia and that means you can't afford to ignore mohammedan selman ok thank you for that alan fischer live for us in buenos aires now as we mentioned russia's actions against ukraine are a major issue at the g. twenty russia has announced it's moving the ukrainian saying is it captured to a prison hospital in moscow they were taken prisoner off the coast south crimea let's bring in ron rowe a challenge in moscow for us for more on this what what why they being transferred . and soldiers. what we have been
5:11 pm
told why they have been transferred. the they have been the crimean authorities earlier on in the day said they had all left crimea she didn't know where they go on but. it was the f.s.b. that was looking after the f.s.b. as the federal security service of russia we now understand through various other bodies human rights groups and public monitoring commissions that. twenty one of them at least are in the lower fourth of a prison in moscow now this is a notorious prison with a long history it used to be back in the soviet times and n.k.v.d. torture prison these days it's run by the ministry of justice but it still has links to the security services to the f.s.b. we're being told that twenty one of the soldiers are in the core unseen section of
5:12 pm
the force of a three of them we don't quite know where they are we assume the three of the injured ones and there are reports that those three are currently in a prison hospital and in the meantime role review quinion government not backing down it's impose a travel ban on russian men. from the ages of sixteen to sixty from entering ukraine imposing restrictions on them has moscow reacting to that. well this is a highly controversial move from the ukrainian north or a t's. they have basically taken the step of yes banning all russian males between the ages of sixteen and sixty from entering ukrainian territory now this is controversial because basically you have pretty much a blanket ban on people coming into the country of a certain nationality we're hearing reports coming from. airports and the border
5:13 pm
of people being turned away on on various grounds. and the reports are coming back are actually that in practice is not just being applied to russian adult men but it is being being applied across the board to women and children as well russians and ukrainians have often very interlinked families with people on both sides of the border there are many russians who work and live in ukraine and of course there are many ukrainians who work and live in russia as well the assumption was that perhaps russia would consider some sort of reciprocal gesture but they've decided not to do that i think they want to paint selves as the adults in the room here basically saying that this is a kind of collective freak out from the ukrainian authorities thank you for that. in moscow. still ahead on al-jazeera one and a half million children need urgent aid in central african republic we have the
5:14 pm
latest on an alarming reports by the un's children organization and fuel shortages mean more bad news was in bad ways troubling economy stay with us. hello again and welcome back well this i do want to start here across parts of central asia we are picking up a few showers across much of china and those are going to be on the crease as we go towards the rest of the weekend a couple showers down here across parts of the south hong kong you're going to be picking up a shower just to the north of you with the temperature not too bad of about twenty five degrees but we do expect to see heavier showers as we go towards sunday particular here across the central regions but over towards shanghai it is still going to be relatively quiet few where the temperature there of twenty two degrees a little bit further towards the west we are going to be seeing much of india clear over the next few days some showers down here across the south including parts of
5:15 pm
sri lanka but as we go towards saturday well colombo is going to be mostly cloudy with a temperature there of thirty one degrees a few clouds up here along the coastal areas for new delhi we are talking about mid twenty's for you and really staying like that as we go towards sunday maybe some rain and clouds as we make our way towards sunday for kolkata as well as much of bangladesh and here across much of the arabian peninsula we are going to be watching this mass of clouds over the next few days we are going to see him some rain appear towards iraq moving towards iran but these clouds are going to be mostly cloudy to cloudy situations as we go over the next few days for doha with the temperature there about twenty seven degrees. when they're online are you looking at wildlife and how the solutions come together to benefit all parties involved that's where we're going to see long term success or if you join us on senate if you could take me around the content where would you
5:16 pm
take me if you don't have to set up your experiment with your experiment in the universe this is a dialogue everyone has a voice you actually raise several interesting points there that several of our community members are going to join the global conversation. welcome back our top stories on al-jazeera world leaders are in argentina for the annual g twenty summit to tackle global economic issues and disagreements the u.s. china trade wars topping and agenda that's also being overshadowed by the murder of saudi journalist jamal khashoggi that leaders of canada mexico and the united states have signed a new north america trade deal at the g.
5:17 pm
twenty summit it follows donald trump spending more than a year pressuring canada and mexico into rewriting the original knocked up after repeatedly call to get a job for u.s. workers and rising tension between russia and ukraine over crimea also in the spotlight at the g. twenty russia is moving the ukrainian sailors it captured to a prison hospital in moscow ukraine for its want is rocking russian men of military age from entering the country and late to step in a week of tension following russia's seizure of three ukrainian ships in the black sea. in the united states president trump's former lawyer has admitted he lied to congress during the investigation into an ex russian interference in a twenty six thousand presidential election michael cohen told a federal court that he had submitted a false witness statement about a trump organization planned to build a tower in moscow had a call hang has more from washington. mobbed by reporters michael cohen said nothing leaving the court but inside
5:18 pm
a guilty plea he lied to congress now admitting that he was trying to arrange a real estate deal in moscow during the time it was clear donald trump would be the republican candidate the cohen was in fact going to travel to russia to work on the deal and that now president trump knew about it all things cohen had previously denied bruce fein worked in the justice department and he says this is a big deal so this is a time where we have a criminal information that identifies the president himself secondly it also indicates that president trump or then candidate trump felt vulnerable if it was known that he was dealing in russian enterprises or because he would need to curry the favor of mr putin nothing happens in russia of important without mr putin's approval the president dismissed the news in his usual fashion badmouthing his former top aide is a weak person. by being weak god like other people that you watch he's
5:19 pm
a weak person and what he's trying to do is get a reduced sentence so he's lying about a project that everybody knew about i mean we were very open to where the kohen did plead guilty to crimes that completely related to trump pain of women who trump had an affair with so they would stay quiet before the election and while it might not have been illegal to do a deal in russia while he is under investigation for potentially colluding with russia to win the election it would have looked suspicious this makes six six close aides to the president have now pled guilty as part of the special counsel's probe democrats say this is bad for the president. you've got all these closest associates of the president one after another pleading guilty often pleading guilty about their ties to russia and russians and what are they covering up for in we also have a white house that still seems just obsessed about this investigation it's believed
5:20 pm
the special counsel has filed several indictments that are still under seal which means it is quite likely local cohen won't be the last to face the cameras or the court. don't deserve washington. syrian state media is reporting thirty people have been killed in u.s. led coalition airstrikes targeting i saw near dera zor most of the victims were women and children early on thursday in the same area nearly twenty people and some i saw fines were killed in a coalition strike on a prison cell pockets controlled by isone in eastern syria where they have been killing civilians by unicef is warning of an unprecedented humanitarian disaster for children in central african republic it says tens of thousands could starve to death as rival for control of land and resources lexi o'brien has more. these are the victims of one of the world's most forgotten conflicts starving children fill central african republic sir only pediatric hospital and their frail

bodies are fighting an invisible enemy hunger to inform on placed in one place. it's really sad because it's an illness that can be prevented but we see dozens of cases if for a day sometimes children arrive here in a very serious condition they go straight to the emergency ward and some die it's really painful. the u.n. says children a suffering the most in the fighting that began in two thousand and thirteen between mostly muslim seleka rebels and the mainly christian anti baloch of militias. both sides have a tech schools hospitals and religious buildings and one of the poorest and least developed countries in the world a militia leader and former politician tom is now facing charges in the international criminal court accused of murder torture and recruiting child soldiers like level she thought is only for passing. i was fifteen when i joined
5:22 pm
the armed group it was to protect myself and money so i could support myself because i was poor if you don't help the children the boys will join armed groups and the girls will sell their bodies. according to the united nations the violence has forced a quarter of all children from their homes many into the bush or overcrowded camps nearly every child needs protection from the armed groups which now control the saint of the country it is one point five million children require humanitarian aid and forty three thousand could die from extreme hunger in the coming year children in the central african republic constantly that facing violence fear they are recruited into armed groups they are living under imaginable poverty. and facing life threatening nutrition the situation is really desperate we have a whole generation of children growing up in desperate desperate situations
5:23 pm
. unicef says children and central african republic have been abandoned by the international community for too long and without urgent help they could become a lost generation brian al jazeera. the world health organization says the ebola outbreak in democratic republic of congo is now the second worst on record there's been more than four hundred twenty new cases since august and two hundred fifty people have died attacks by rebel groups in the country's northeast are making it difficult for health workers to contain the disease peter j. hotez is dean of the national school of tropical medicine at baylor college he told us about the threats workers are facing. this part of eastern congo is one of the most destabilized. regions of the world they've had almost continuous violence for practically twenty years and you might say well what does violence and conflict have to do with disease well what happens is that collapses the whole health system
5:24 pm
infrastructure so when you want to be concerned about safe area lives which are a big problem during all outbreaks or contacting potentially infected individuals this presents a really tough problem for health workers work for the area the good news is that we have a vaccine that was we didn't have a vaccine on hand but the twenty fourteen outbreak and west africa so we have a very effective and relatively safe vaccine available now. so that's the good news and so far more than thirty thousand doses of vaccine that's been deployed but the problem is working in such an unstable area you have to ensure the safety of the health of the vaccinators and you have to be able to trace potential contacts and get them vaccinated so in theory this should be a non-problem we should be able to quickly contain this through use of the vaccine
5:25 pm
but because of the massive political instability one of the most difficult parts of the world there really slows things down and unfortunately so far more than two hundred people perished have been bob ways economic troubles only seem to be getting worse one place where you can really see how desperate things are getting is that petrol stations hundreds of cars are queuing up for hours due to another randa fuel shortages some stations are even empty how much tougher has our report from harare. it's the second fuel crisis in just over a month that is not just in the capital harare it's all over the country fuel pumps are driving this is what you're seeing people have been waiting in long lines for hours some say even days hoping to get fuel what happens is they hear a rumor or they get word that fuel will be delivered could be delivered on the certain day they come and they join the line many people we've spoken to today angry and frustrated quite frankly i can't believe we're here again as i'm sure so many people feel it's a it's just such
5:26 pm
a waste of time and productivity. as i'm bob wins it's super frustrating because instead of working you know hustling we are curing something that we have become very good outs and shouldn't. be bullied me for the sins of known friends. of the should. something from. people who are desperate or conway to mine for whatever reason are buying the fuel on the black market it's illegal but they say there's nothing else they can do they need to get to work than it is in the children to school but buying on the black market means paying in u.s. dollars many people here don't earn u.s. dollars you can just walk into the bank and get the money because of cash shortages all across the country the government is telling zimbabweans to be patient they saying fuel supplies have been good maybe by the end of the week but people are frustrated they're angry they say enough is enough they want less talk and more
