a volcano called the mountain of god could erupt in tanzania. hello there were plenty of showers across the southeast in parts of asia at the moment but actually not all of us a seeing very heavy downpours look at the philippines mostly dry here plenty of dry weather across borneo as well there will be a couple of showers dotted about here as we head through the next couple of days but nothing too heavy the heavier and more persistent showers are out towards the west in for some of us here it really has been very wet cosa moving a scene over one hundred millimeters of rain just in twenty four hours so really quite so here plenty more showers across this region as we head through monday and choose day so it will be pretty wet for many of us once more for australia is also rather wait for many places here too particularly over queensland where where we've

got the remains of a flood plain with if this was a when it did disintegrate but now it's still going to give some very heavy downpours here could give us some flooding as well we've also got this area of cloud in the south and ahead of that we're going to see the temperatures begin to rise once more so there is the cloud with us as we head through monday and the temperatures rising there in adelaide for tuesday will get to around twenty degrees thirty degrees story as we head through the day for the west we still got a few showers to deal with every pulse of south australia now they head towards new zealand for many of us here it's fine and dry vulcan's is really quite warm all temperatures will be topping out around twenty one degrees. it begs well and doesn't require diplomas. that's why so many in macao work for the casinos. in but for those who struggle at school.

after weeks of popular protests against corruption and cronyism and what became known as the velvet revolution robin for a ca walker has more from the capital yet of our. nicole passion and he's my step alliance are riding sky high in opinion polls and therefore they are expected to win by a significant majority in today's election and if that happens this will be the finishing touch if you like of his so-called velvet revolution when back in the spring he managed to bring out tens of thousands of armenians on to the street to bring about a peaceful transition of power back then he was elected prime minister. with hundreds of thousands of armenians on the streets demanding parliament make him the country's leader but he only had
6:06 pm
a handful of seats in power in parliament so what he needs now and why he's holding this snap election is to transfer that popular power that he has on the streets into the corridors of power where he will have a legitimate mandate to carry out the reforms that he's promised to the armenian people things like dealing with the oligarchs and their monopoly on the economy bringing in more money bringing in investment changing the education system and of course one of his key platforms having a free and fair democratic system now this has been one of the criticisms that has been. raised at him brought into question the fact that he's holding these elections when he's riding this wave of popularity and there hasn't been much campaign so i mean the other political parties are at a disadvantage and if he gets into power with a significant majority how is he going to exercise his orthe already we've seen

some harsh language coming from him in recent weeks he's been accused of using hate speech in intimidating his opponents he would argue that he's fine. in fire with fire he's been given that mandate by the armenian people to take on the corrupt old elites and so he's got to go in hard but whether or not he wins this election with an extremely high majority is expected the question then will be whether he's going to. exercise his orthorexic democratically the groups that provide services to refugees and migrants in italy say there's been an increase in racist attacks the rise of right wing politics and nationalist attitudes are being blamed and now many of those arriving in italy say they don't feel safe so new reports from rome.

g.c.c. countries are continuing their economic blockade of fellow member castle that to speed on the diplomatic crisis surrounding the murder of jamal khashoggi are amongst the issues overshadowing the. annual gathering we have two correspondents following the stories on binge of aid is at the sala crossing castle's border with saudi arabia live to him in just a moment after we speak to jamal first of all who's in kuwait city and took off as well just give us an idea of what we're likely to see come out of this gathering. well i mean to sum it up pretty briefly nothing really substantial fact that this summit is taking place will be perceived by some as some sort of an achievement already saudi media has been extremely keen on showing that it is an achievement
6:51 pm
having been able to hold this summit but in reality when you look at the fact that qatar is sending the assistant foreign minister look at the fact that this crisis continues for over eighteen months now roughly when you look at the fact that the g.c.c. which was meant to be built on economic cooperation security cooperation and so forth has essentially been power lies for the best parts of true u.s. now it is very difficult to see how this summit will be able to bring about anything different obviously the representation in terms of the states there you have the heads of states in terms of saudi arabia as well as kuwait of course the parts of the past half an hour or so had to share their as well as obviously behind but the united arab emirates sending some of the russian mattoon the prime minister and deputy leader of the u.a.e. there and obviously the foreign minister of amman also present there those are things that maybe will drill some positives for those who are more sentimental or
6:52 pm
emotional about the pictures that come out of it and try and maybe show that there is some sort of unity between those countries but of the backdrop as you say of the g.c.c. crisis in terms of the blockade on qatar which continues now off the backdrop of the international isolation or at least maybe anger that's been directed toward saudi arabia because of jamal khashoggi and of the backdrop of for example qatar withdrawing from opec and obviously several of the g.c.c. members being oil dependent on a means the signs show that there is a lot more disunity and discord than there is in terms of actual unity and cooperation in what this. being called the gulf cooperation council indeed. gets more indication of us over the coming hours as we hear from members of the g.c.c. for the moment thanks very much jamal let's go over now to osama bin. saudi border and that border being close says the blockade began last year some eighteen months
6:53 pm
ago what impact does it continue to have. well or if this was seventeen june or may perhaps i would have been standing in the middle of a very busy lane at this border the only land border that this but insular and it goes into saudi arabia but it has been blocked since june the fifth two and seventeen and it has been it has come at a great cost to the families in the social fabric or off the g.c.c. societies because they have very close tribal links these families they have into marriages between them between people who live in saudi arabia the u.a.e. bahrain and qatar and also there is an economics like to this as well it was up to seventy two million dollars a month that was being traded between qatar and saudi arabia alone and the bulk of that was coming through this border so it has come at
6:54 pm
a great cost to the six member nation at the six member union the gulf cooperation council with three of its members have made it against one of their members and it is ironic that just about five hundred kilometers from this place is where that meeting is being held but this is as far as we can go from the state of qatar so this is this is been an unprecedented crisis since one thousand nine hundred eighty one when the g.c.c. was formed but it has gone from bad to worse last year when this annual meeting took place three emir did go to the meeting in kuwait but the rest of them didn't care and it looks like there might be the top leaders off bahrain emirates and saudi arabia arriving at the summit in riyadh this year but there is only sent its state minister so it is the country that we've been speaking to in the lead up to this event say that they were worried at the beginning of this conflict and in this war of attrition at least they feel they have been vindicated as they can stand
6:55 pm
more independently than others in the g.c.c. ok for the moment thanks very much for joining us there. from the cattle saudi border little bit more about this with me joining me here in the studio is. chief executive of gulf state analytics which assesses risk and opportunities amongst the g.c.c. and he is very good to have you with us a first for what message do you think is sending to the g.c.c. by only sending its state minister to riyadh. well you know last year the blockading countries attempted to overthrow the emir of qatar and so i think it was unrealistic to expect the called hers to decide that their head of state would attend this meeting i think qatar sending the message that at least on paper it's going to remain in the g.c.c. but i think this was sort of a swipe at saudi arabia that needs to be seen as well as the other blockading countries that needs to be seen within the context of this crisis that has been
6:56 pm
very emotional it's lasted a little over a year and a half and has really been seen enough from the qatari perspective as a nexus sensual threat do you think realistically the blockade is going to be given much time discuss and at the table that. that to be discussed i think from the standpoint of both sides of this dispute there's a belief that they can sustain themselves in the status quo and i don't think either side wants to make the concessions that would be necessary to overcome this crisis the leadership in saudi arabia and he has said many occasions that resolving this crisis is certainly not a very high priority meanwhile i think qatar has moved on on the g.c.c. well coate in oman remain extremely close to qatar you know doha his really invested in new relationships with countries outside of the g.c.c. china india especially iran turkey and so on so if that is the new normal for the
6:57 pm
moment how effective that lead the g.c.c. which some would argue wasn't terribly effective in the first place. i think moving forward the g.c.c. least for the forseeable future is likely to be a platform where these six monarchies can cooperate on a technocratic level the fact that the u.a.e. is still purchasing gas shows that there still is cooperation between these countries not withstanding the bitter politics that has left us in this situation but will the g.c.c. ever be a council made up of six countries that trust each other you know it it's not realistic to expect that any time soon i think way down the road maybe when regional circumstances are different and you have different leaders in this countries it's possible but we can't expect that anytime soon it's certainly not realistic to think that this meeting in saudi arabia is going to result in this
