hello the trumpet ministrations top diplomat and national security advisor on a mission to reassure anxious allies about its plans to pull out troops from syria but john bolton's condition that turkey should not target kurdish armed groups in syria has been rejected by the turkish president but has slammed what he calls mixed messages from washington. has more from ankara. over two weeks ago u.s. president donald trump announced on twitter that withdrawing american troops from syria on tuesday his national security adviser john bolton arrived in ankara for meetings with senior turkish officials about how and when that withdrawal will take place a day earlier bolton was in israel meeting prime minister benjamin netanyahu where he assured him that the withdrawal would not impact negatively on kurdish groups inside syria to that turkish president's had this to say he said i bolten has made a serious mistake and whoever thinks like this is also made

take over his role but the key point that general zinni made in this interview with the u.s. network was that as far as he could tell the parties in the dispute surrounding the blockade of qatar don't want to be engaged in any sort of mediation to have any sort of constructive discussion and so essentially he questioned why was he needed he underscored that this had nothing to do with any possible disputes with others in the trial but ministration in fact he went out of his way in the interview to say that he had received nothing but support and collaboration from officials at the white house on the national security council and certainly that he had support of his colleagues at the state department so essentially daryn what anthony zinni is saying is that a list the parties in the dispute that have divided the g.c.c. for nearly two years actually want to come up with the solution he doesn't see why he should be spending any time trying to get them to talk to each other all right

got it rosalyn jordan reporter from washington thank you. political analyst he's joining us here in the studio first on general zinni is resignation is there said is there something to be said about the timing of this resignation as the secretary of state is in the region absolutely i mean. the fact that he quit and the day that the secretary of state started his visit mega visit to so many gulf countries says something about. about why he quit now i take what rosen is saying that he said such and such but and the let it be speaking we all knew from the very beginning there's a major crisis in the gulf region the question is when the united states intervenes in order to solve the differences among countries it starts with the assumption that the gulf countries are in disagreement in dispute major disputes in notional disputes political disputes and so on so forth the question is did general zini get

enough support enough leverage from the american president himself in order to resolve this question or not because without trump bush will rule to resolve this conflict we all knew from the beginning that this is not going to go anywhere because each one of those leaders in the gulf need american guarantees that once they get out of their comfort zones in order to reach to the others they need the united states to be there in order to help them there's all this conflict the second thing is while general zinni is in the region try to resolve this issue he understands also that there are no american ambassadors neither in qatar nor in the u.a.e. or in saudi arabia so there isn't that kind of local diplomatic support regional diplomatic support by u.s. envoys in order to help him complete his job so the timing is important he might say it's not a slap to the trumpet mr asian but everything about it says it is about what does this then tell you about the u.s.

plans going forward on trying to resolve this dispute well look i mean we've heard earlier or last week from state department official not on the record that maybe invites would be issued to leaders of the region to attend some kind of a summit with trump but we've heard that over the last eighteen months there's nothing new there we're. no of the summit will take place we were promised the summit several times just like we were promised the deal of the century several times but it just somehow keeps getting postponed so certainly there is a goethe in the gulf where there's a gulf between gulf leaders in terms of their political differences yet i would say the following it is an opportune time in the gulf because of so deep blunders so with the iraqi blunders in yemen and so would you blunders the way they dealt with the murder so i think there's a bit of leverage now for the american mission to come in and say look folks it's time now to come together especially in light also of the fact that qatar and the

united states are involved in strategic coordination cooperation consultation and in fact we're going to have on the thirteenth a qatari american coordination of the annual coordination meeting between secretary powell and the qatari foreign minister so they're the ducks are lined up if you will is there american leverage is that american will to see this through that's the question what about the american well when it comes to sort of be the politics of the region because what we see now is the trumpet minutes to trump perhaps and softens the spots two men might bump a zero and and bolton it to this region what do you see their main missions are right now and are they going to achieve them i think in terms of. their national security adviser john bolton his mission is damage control because trump president from said one thing then his lieutenant says another thing and whatever he said in
