politicians are saying we don't want to repeat was happening but you're actually doing exactly the same thing you're letting these dictators run free you're letting their militias run free and killing people and people will get more upset and people go out in the street and this is what's happening so we're is that what you saw in sudan because i understand that you were recently there what comparisons can be made between what's happening in sudan and what you saw during the arab spring and when you really started publishing these cartoons it's the same story it's exactly same stories dictators rule for thirty years with an iron fist start killing people jailing every dissent there is and this is what's happening now in sudan sudan there's a longer of course you know there's the short story and a long story short of these protests but the long story is exactly the same one the thirty years of no free media no freedom of press nothing so this is exactly what's happening right now and it's the same exact story so the international. governments

and the surrounding government should really understand that this is we need to step in they need to step in right now and do to do to help what kind of reaction do you get from saddam specifically on these cartoons that are related to the country everybody feels exactly the same way you know we everybody is retreating and then everything of course because this is all we can do you know right now social media gave this a platform to share these images give us a platform is that it's the only free space that we have and even on their activists are being targeted and being arrested for their tweets and for their activism online and several have been arrested this last month and in terms of political cartoons in the work that you do it's seen as a way to get a point across how effective do you think this form of expression is in getting points across but specifically when we look at the so don issue right now in general political cartoons are about saying or even graffiti is of us saying that

the fear is broken you know when you see graffiti like that in in the streets of courtroom where it's a police state basically when you see that that means people went out risked their lives and that when you see people drawing cartoons doing like. doing the cartoons about gadhafi and and and bashir this it means that the fear is broken people are talking people are coming out into the streets people are risking their lives so this is exactly what it means it doesn't it's not it's about the art but it's really about people who are doing things and it's encouraging more people to go out there and do things and if you were just going to look ahead where do you think the situation in sudan is going to lead to over the next coming days over the next coming weeks i hope for. i hope for the. more peace and i hope the governments really understand that the killing wouldn't lead anywhere and we're repeating things so i just hope that the international community looks at what's happening in sudan and these militias running wild and just secure the safety of

these peaceful protesters ok a hundred when we thank you very much for coming and it's the us thank you thank you very much now the u.s. president donald trump is set to visit the mexican border that's in a bit to drum up support for his controversial wall so trump wants nearly six billion dollars for his plan barrier to the south but democrats in congress are refusing to give it to him the budget standoff has led to a partial government shutdown that's dragged on for nearly three weeks let's cross over to carol joining us from mccallum in texas that's where trump is arriving in the coming hours what should we expect there can really. well what we expect is the president to continue to try to make his case that this is a crisis something that has been disputed by his political opponents in terms of illegal immigration so why is he coming to mccallan texas well this kind of typifies the president's argument i'm going to have kevin my photographer widen out a little bit and try to point out to you the wall or what we're seeing here is

actually more of a fence and you've heard the president talk about this a little bit this is the sensually the busiest place for illegal crossings in the united states there is a river on the other side and then it mexico so a determined person who is a strong swimmer conceivably could swim across and then jump over this razor wire probably get a few scratches but make it over what essentially is a pretty low level for a fence it's about a metre high and this is where our a lot of people hundreds of thousands in fact have been able to cross into the united states illegally so this is kind of what the president is saying what he says he believes that there should be a forty five border wall this is why the government is shut down in the united states right now because he wants five point six or seven billion dollars to essentially put in place a much higher wall of steel wall he says in order to stop these illegal crossings

now certainly democrats have pointed out as the president makes the case this is a humanitarian crisis that the number of crossings have gone down significantly compared to their peak in the year two thousand so what we expect is the president is going to not only make the case pointing out sections of this wall here macallan texas but he's also going to meet with local mayors border security guards get a security briefing as he continues to make the case to the american public that advocating for this while fighting for this money is worth keeping eight hundred thousand federal workers off the job as this partial government shutdown continues so it continues kimberly are we getting the sense the this isn't five going to go on for a while and everyone's just digging their heels in. well certainly the science coming out of the white house just about twenty four hours ago were certainly not encouraging for those hoping to get back to work as they approach friday when they'll face the first time they don't get

a paycheck parrot lee the meeting between congressional leaders top democrats in the president went on for just fourteen minutes democrats say the president slammed his fist on the table when he was told quite frankly from the house speaker nancy pelosi that he would not be getting his money for the wall that's when the president apparently left the room and the talks deteriorated we've just heard from the president as he left the white house in fact saying that he he still believes that he'd like to try and resolve this through congress but is not ruling out the possibility of resolving this dispute essentially reopening the government and still getting his way getting the money for the wall if he declares a national emergency that would open up money from the department of defense for him to begin constructing the wall but certainly that would also open him up to significant legal challenges in the court so in terms of a resolution it doesn't appear that it will be quick it certainly already having an effect on many of the federal workers and ordinary americans who were lie in the

government for example trying to get a mortgage or or essentially looking for government services and finding that those offices are closed this is having an impact and with each passing day there are some republicans that are getting a little bit nervous while the president did head up to capitol hill to try and make the case that there still is republican unity as more and more of those republican lawmakers fire their constituents affected there does appear to be some cracking in that unity so it's not of no certainty for the president that's why he will be down here making his case that this is an issue of national security even as those numbers are reported that the number of illegal crossings are down all right thank you about trump argues that the wall is needed as you're hearing to stop what he calls a growing humanitarian and security crisis and our latest episode of inside story looks of this very issue and asks is there really a crisis at the us mexico border head to al jazeera dot com click on shows and

amounts of natural lands that are left and we need to get in those areas to be able to manage development before we end up further damaging ecosystems in a way that would both cause species losses as well as a lot of losses for the services that nature provides to b.s.a. you also say there's a degree of human modification reported this time is in fact higher than other times so what is the danger if modification by humans continues at this rate i think the danger is that we're going to continue to see global declines of bio diversity of species we're going to see more or catastrophic issues regarding climate change which is exacerbated by development we're going to lose a lot of then services that nature provides to people whether it's carbon
