basically laying out what could be seen as conspiracy although stone is not charged with conspiracy and currently charged with conspiracy i think before i get into that i want to point out he likes to call it a political motivated witch hunt robert muller is a lifelong republican and many members of his team are in fact republicans that said here's what the indictment says it says basically roger stone was the. media that's harder to say than you might think at least today between wiki leaks and the trump campaign and this is one nugget that i think we really need to talk about it says in the indictment that a senior level member of the charm campaign was directed to contact roger stone to get him to contact wiki leaks so that leaves the question are they talking about president trump because who else could direct a senior member of the campaign so the allegation is he was being a conduit between wiki leaks and the charm campaign and that when he was called before the house intelligence committee on this put under oath he was asked flat out were you have communicated he said no no communications no text messages and
4:01 am
the problem for stone was before this he would come out and say hey wiki leaks has got this these d.n.c. e-mails or they're going to take a look at this person then when it came clear that the that the investigation was happening and potentially russia being behind that he said no i was just another guy told me all about that so you tried to blame this other person who then said i'm going to tell the committee the truth according to this indictment roger stone threatened to kill him and his dog so that's what's laid out in the indictment right now and these are very serious charges for now he has been released on a two hundred fifty thousand dollars bond writes a stone for now has been released on bail as you say and so many interesting questions emerging from this who knew that senior campaign official was and who directed him what has president and saying. well if you have a twitter account then you probably have already seen what the president is saying
4:02 am
basically the greatest which challenge no collusion he says border coyote's drug dealers human smugglers to human traffickers are treated better than this what he's talking about and complaining about is something that the conservative media has been focusing on is that there is video of the f.b.i. doing this pre-dawn arrest at his home in florida and they do they have full body armor is on guns drawn and it was an early morning search and the reason the f.b.i. does this is they have a credible belief that the person behind the door could possibly destroy evidence it's also common for the f.b.i. when serving warrants are specially arrest boards to go in armed with body armor because you never know what's behind the door it's standard practice but the president making a little bit of hay on that and for his part of it will probably talk about it if he does take questions at the event that we're waiting to hear from him so we might hear more from him on that but her his staff's part they're saying the same thing they always say when someone close to the president gets indicted has nothing to do with the president there's no collusion at this time serious handor said it was
4:03 am
ridiculous and insulting that they were even asked about it all right thank you very much with all the latest on this story from washington patty calling. the political tensions are mounting now in venezuela as opposition to one calls for a free and fair elections two days after swearing himself in as interim president during a speech in the capital caracas he accused president nicolas maduro of tightening his grip on power against the wishes of the people at least twenty people have been killed now in anti-government protests this week three hundred fifty more were arrested in the past few days russia and mexico both offered to mediate between the leaders but his support says back out onto the streets in the coming days.
4:04 am
so you coming with us this saturday and sunday. week's big demonstration of course we're going back to the street. right well let me see any human joins us now from cuckoo time so we one guy joe has refused to engage in any sort of discussion what reason does he give for this. i'm sorry the very last thing you said i you were cutting out what you said that you think you entertain any discussion and. now i was just asking you about his reasoning his rationale for not engaging in some sort of negotiation when there is the risk of prolonged unrest in venezuela. absolutely this is a very high stakes gamble that he is playing and the opposition because he is
4:05 am
sounding very very emboldened very very confident but perhaps too much so if you take into account that he represents a national assembly that appointed him as interim president but has absolutely no power at all he has been saying and that was they were going to clear messages just a short while ago one only discussion will be that of president mahmoud of stepping down allowing an interim government that will then hold elections as soon as possible in other words there's no real room he says for any kind of negotiation with that with president a little if you remained president the other thing of course in this was made very clear he doesn't control the armed forces they are the deal breakers here he recognized that and so he's message was to the army he said you can join the people you can flip on the president we are going to sign we mean the national assembly will we will sign an amnesty for those of you who come over to our side to leave the dark side and in fact said that on sunday members of the opposition would be
4:06 am
actually distributing this amnesty to screen saying i'm so sorry to everybody but we we will leave you that is seen even in the venezuela colombia border here we have president trump at the white house. to use it at this time. of the. i want to thank all of the credible federal workers and their amazing sam his suit showed such extraordinary devotion it is this recent hardship you are the people you are incredible patriots many of you who have suffered far greater than anyone but your family no road you say. and not only did you not complaining. but in many cases you encourage me to keep going because you care so much about our country and about its border security and
4:07 am
again i thank you all americans i thank you you are very very special people i am so proud that you are citizens of our country when i say make america great again it could never be done without you great people. in a short while i will sign a bill to open our government for three weeks until february fifteenth i will make sure that all employees receive their back pay very quickly or as soon as possible it will happen fast i am asking senate majority leader mitch mcconnell to put this proposal on the floor immediately after thirty six days of spirited debate and dialogue i have seen and heard from enough
4:08 am
democrats and republicans that they are willing to put partisanship aside i think and put the security of the american people first i do believe they're going to do that they have said they are for complete border security and they have finally and fully acknowledged that having barriers fencing or walls or whatever you want to call it will be an important part of the solution a bipartisan conference committee of house and senate law monkeys and leaders who will immediately begin reviewing the requests of our homeland security experts and experts they are. and also law enforcement professionals who have worked with us sotelo slee we want to thank border patrol ice and all law enforcement an
4:09 am
incredible. the ear. based on operational guidance from the experts in the field they will put together a homeland security package for me to shortly sign into law over the next twenty one days i expect that both democrats and republicans will operate in good faith this is an opportunity for all parties to work together for the benefit of our whole beautiful wonderful nation if we make a fair deal the american people will be proud of their government for proving that we can put country before party we can show all americans and people all around the world that both political parties are united when it comes to protecting our
4:10 am
country and protecting our people many disagree but i really feel that working with democrats and republicans we can make a truly great and secure deal happen for everyone wall should not be controversial our country is built six hundred fifty four miles of barrier over the last fifteen years and every career border patrol agent i have spoken with has told me that walls work they do work no matter where you go they work israel built a walled ninety nine point nine percent successful won't be any different for us they keep criminals out. they saved good people from attempting a very dangerous journey from other countries thousands of miles because they think
4:11 am
they have a glimmer of hope of coming through with a wall they don't have that hope they keep drugs out and they dramatically increase efficiency by allowing us to patrol far larger areas with far fewer people it's just commonsense walls work that's why most of the democrats in congress have voted in the past for bills that include walls and physical barriers and very powerful fences the walls we are building are not medieval walls they are smart walls designed to meet the needs of front line border agents and are operationally effective these barriers are made of steel habsi through visibility which is very important and are equipped with sensors monitors and cutting edge technology including state
4:12 am
of the art drones we do not need two thousand miles of concrete wall from cedars chinese see we never did we never proposed that we never wanted that because we have barriers at the border where natural structures are as good as anything that we can build the rory there they've been there for millions of years our propose structures will be in pre-determined high risk locations that have been specifically identified by the border patrol to stop illicit flows of people and drugs no border security plan can ever work without a physical barrier just doesn't happen. at the same time we need to increase drug detection technology and manpower to modernize our ports of entry
4:13 am
which are up salit the equipments up silly their old they're tired this is something we have all come to agree on and will allow for quicker and safer commerce these critical investments will improve and facilitate legal traded travel through our lawful ports of entry our plan also includes desperately needed humanitarian assistance for those being exploited and abused by coyotes smugglers and the dangerous journey north the requests we have put before congress are vital to ending the humanitarian and security crisis on our southern border absolutely vital will not work without it this
4:14 am
crisis threatens the safety of our country and thousands of american lives criminal cartels narco terrorists transnational gangs like m.s. thirteen and human traffickers are brazenly violating u.s. laws and terrorizing innocent communities human traffickers the victims are women and children maybe to a lesser extent believe it or not children women are tied up their back. duct tape put around their faces around them hours in many cases they can't even breathe they're put in the backs of cars or vans or trucks they don't go through your port of entry. they make a right turn going very quickly they go into the desert areas or whatever areas you
4:15 am
can look at and as soon as there is no protection they make a left or a right into the united states of america there's nobody to catch him this nobody to fight him they can't come through the port because if they come through the port people will see four women sitting in a van with tape around their face and around their mouth can't have that and that problem because of the internet is the biggest problem it's never been like this before that you can imagine it's at the worst level of human trafficking in the history of the world this is not a united states problem this is a world problem but they come through areas where they have no protection where they have no steel barriers where they have no walls and we can stop almost one hundred percent of that the profits reaped by these murders organizations are used
4:16 am
to fund their malign and destabilizing conduct throughout this hemisphere last year alone ice officers remove ten thousand known or suspected gang members like m.s. thirteen and members as bad as them horrible people tough mean sadistic in the last two years i saw officers arrested a total of two hundred sixty six thousand criminal aliens inside of the united states including those charged or convicted of nearly one hundred thousand assaults thirty thousand sex crimes and four thousand homicides or as you would call them violent vicious
4:17 am
killings. it can be stopped but vast quantities of lethal drugs including meth fentanyl heroin and cocaine are smuggled across our southern border and into u.s. schools and communities drugs kill much more than seventy thousand americans a year and cost our society in excess of seven hundred billion dollars the sheer volume of illegal immigration has overwhelmed federal authorities and stretched our immigration system beyond the breaking point nearly fifty migrants a day are being referred for medical assistance they're very very sick making this a health crisis as well it's
4:18 am
a very big health crisis people have no idea how big it is unless you're there our backlog in the immigration courts is now far greater then the eight hundred thousand cases that you've been hearing about over the last couple of years think of that though eight hundred thousand cases because a laws are up salit so up salit they are the laughing stock all over the world are immigration laws all over the world they've been there for a long time are the laughing stock all over the world we do not have the necessary space or resources to detain house vet screen and safely process this tremendous influx of people in short we do not have control over who is entering our country where they come from
4:19 am
who they are why they're coming. the result for many years is a colossal danger to public safety we're going to straighten it out it's not hard it's easy if given the resurface last month was the third straight month in a row with sixty thousand apprehensions on our southern border think of that we apprehended sixty thousand people that's like a stadium full of people a big stadium there are many criminals being apprehended but vast numbers are coming because our economy is so strong we have the strongest economy now in the entire world you see what's happening we have nowhere left
4:20 am
to house them and no way to promptly remote them we can't get them out because a laws are so upset only so antiquated and so bad without new resources from congress we will be forced to release these people into communities something we don't want to do called catch and release you catch them even if they're criminals you then release them and you can't release him from where they came so they go into our country and end up in places you would least suspect and we do as little releasing as possible but they're coming by the hundreds of thousands i have had zero democrat lawmakers volunteer to have them released into their districts or states and i think they
4:21 am
know that and that's what we're going to be discussing over the next three weeks. the painful reality is that the tremendous economic and financial burdens of illegal immigration fall on the shoulders of low income americans including millions of wonderful patriotic law abiding immigrants who enrich our nation as commander in chief my highest priority is the defense of our great country we cannot surrender operational control over the nation's borders to foreign cartels traffickers and smugglers we want future americans to come to our country legally and through a system based on merit we need people to come to our country we have great companies moving back into the united states and we have
4:22 am
the lowest employment and the best employment numbers that we've ever had there are more people working today in the united states then have ever worked in our country we need people to come in to help us the farms and with all of these great companies that are moving back finally they're moving back people said it couldn't happen it's happening and we want them to enjoy the blessings of safety and liberty and the rule of law we cannot protect and deliver these blessings without a strong and secure border i believe that crime in this country can go down by a massive percentage if we have great security
4:23 am
on our southern border i believe drugs large percentages of which come through the southern border. it will be cut by a number that nobody will believe so let me be very clear we really have no choice but to build a powerful wall or steel barrier if we don't get a fair deal from congress the government will either shut down on february fifteenth again or i will use the powers afforded to me under the laws and the constitution of the united states to address this emergency we will have great security and i want to thank you all very much thank you very much.
4:24 am
right so we've been listening to president donald trump there at the white house announcing that an initial deal has been reached between the president and congressional leaders to reopen the government for three weeks but crucially this initial deal does not include money that the money that trump wanted to fund a border war with mexico it comes after the longest government shutdown in u.s. history which resulted in eight hundred thousand civil servants government employees going without pay and it just today also saw some serious delays and strain in part of the nation's travel system let's speak to alan fischer he's been following all of this of course from washington and it did seem as though allan
4:25 am
trunk was trying very hard to i suppose justify that the hardship and disruption that this shutdown has caused by justifying why he is so desperate for that border wall. i would suggest there were three parts of that speech first of all there was donald trump with a conciliatory toward which we're very rarely saw when he talks about democrats having a spirited debate and dialogue about border security how that they wanted to make sure that america was safe that's him retreating a great deal from some of the things he said in the past about democrats and how they want crime in the country and they want immigrants coming across the border he also paid tribute to the federal workers now you remember on saturday he made an address from the white house he talked about how he wanted to see a border wall but he made no mention of the eight hundred thousand federal workers that were going without pay because of a shutdown that essentially donald trump said that he would do in the second part
4:26 am
of the speech was classic donald trump is donald trump's great estates how the border wall will stop people coming in to the country how it will stop drugs will stop crime some of the figures need to be fact checked and he went again to the story about how women are being boned in gagged and brought over the border although the barman of homeland security has never been able to provide any evidence that that is actually happening and then there was the third part of the speech and here's the kicker donald trump has essentially said you give me the money for the war we get an agreement within the next three weeks if not i am declaring a national emergency and i will find another way to build the wall so the nothing has been resolved by getting the government back this is just kick the problem down the road he says there will be discussions between republicans and democrats we know that democrats aren't keen on the wall it'll be interesting to see their take on what donald trump said about how the accepted the need for
4:27 am
a wall but here is essentially said i will declare a national emergency a couple of things are not first of all that will probably be challenged in the courts how can you declare something an emergency when this has been. dragging on for six to eight weeks and will take you a significant amount of time to build a wall the other thing is there are many many many republicans who do not want donald trump to declare a national emergency over this because they believe that then creates a president and the next time there is a democratic president in the white house they can declare a national emergency over something like climate change or if there is a mass shooting the clear a national emergency which then starts to infringe on what people see as their second amendment rights to own guns so there are republicans who do not want him to take this step but the up sum of all of this is that we should start to see more sions appearing on the senate floor on capitol hill which will reopen the
4:28 am
government perhaps as soon as saturday or sunday but donald trump has lead it very clearly we're going to talk about this for three weeks but if you don't give me what i want five point seven billion dollars for a border war something that he said on the campaign trail mexico would pay for that i am going to declare a national emergency and i will get my wall built. alan how difficult a position is president trying in at the moment because it is very politically damaging not to end the shutdown or not to that is come to a temporary agreement but of course he risks alienating his diehard supporters by backing down on the border with mexico. let's unpeel the slightly freezer less at least slightly this shutdown is of donald trump's making donald trump knew that there was a motion going through the senate which would fund the government for
4:29 am
a period of time but suddenly decided after criticism from right wing commentators he wasn't going to support that they're essentially said we didn't get the wall why did we ever vote for trump that freaked him out no other way of saying it freaked him out and so he put absolute stop on that and the government shutdown remember come january the first january the second actually the democrats took control of the house made the whole thing much more difficult he has asked for five point seven billion dollars for a border wall the democrats have said that is simply not going to happen they are talking about a formula which will give him increased security in the border more border agents more immigration judges high tech drones things that will keep the border much more secure with building what they have described as a medieval wall of phrase that donald trump has return to donald trump knew that he was losing support not just among republicans but among the general public his approval rating was going down and the longer this shutdown was continuing the more
4:30 am
problems he was facing therefore he knew he had to do something this gives him a three week window to try and come up with some sort of agreement in the meantime we nor the republicans and democrats will be talking there is the scuse me the additional problem that we had of mitch mcconnell saying who is the leader of the republicans in the senate i'm not putting anything on the senate floor that donald trump isn't going to sign off on because he didn't want what happened to him december to happen again so now we've heard from the president we know that the government will reopen there's going to be enough support in the house and the senate to get that done but it's just a three week window takes the problem just down the road and again donald trump has made very clear if i don't get what i want i'm the clearing a national emergency so he has laid out his bottom line on this and i thank you very much allan fisher in washington. well as we were hearing there around eight hundred thousand government workers miss their second monthly paycheck on friday
4:31 am
because of the shutdown tens of thousands of workers who handle tax forms were ordered back to the office for the start of the tax season but there are reports that at least fourteen thousand didn't show up there all six thousand tax workers in kansas city missouri is all no spoke to two of them who have been struggling to pay that bills for defeating hanson the bills just keep piling up that's because she was sent home without pay a month ago for her customer service job at the u.s. taxi chancy field office in kansas city the longer the shutdown lasts the more pressure she feels like below is two hundred thousand dollars a month. or so with to pay half the light b.-o. and half my heating b.-o. could this cold. to buy food or to buy a partial medicine chiquita goldsby has worked for the taxi chintzy for twenty five
4:32 am
years and without pay since december even before the shutdown bunny was tight now even paying for the basics is a challenge is hard as it is i'm just like everybody else you know paycheck to paycheck it and i have to figure out where my gas water's going to come from africa where my next meals then come from and rent rates do every month but it's worse chiquita has severe asthma and can't afford this sixty dollars for her prescription it says i have forty six. inhalations lives that will only last till the end of the month i ask her what will happen when it's gone then i'm out. i'm out. just here in kansas city there are seven different federal government agencies that have offices here including the department of commerce the internal revenue service
4:33 am
and the environmental protection agency just to name a few and just here in this city there are nine thousand federal government employees that are currently not receiving a paycheck for what you say about the employees as the two women try to map out a strategy to financially survive the shutdown the challenges mount as defeated thinks about the deadlock over the funding for donald trump's border wall she's increasingly fed up they're supposed to hear our voices into things like nobody's listening from a message to washington. and i've said this before we are not we should not be used as your collateral damage in a political game in washington with workers in america losing out gabriels onto. kansas city still have for you on the program why comments by persons queen are being seen as an intervention in that debate. over smaller.
4:34 am
parliament ratifies the equipment remaining macedonia ending a long dispute but leaving many greeks angry. ok well this is the scene right now in washington mitch mcconnell is speaking and we just heard from u.s. president donald trump announcing an initial deal a tentative deal to reopen the u.s. a free week let's listen to this. over consideration of any other funding bill. show with cooperation. we can pass legislation opening the government. and send a d h s appropriations bill to a conference with the house today. i'm glad the closed portions of the federal government will reopen and get back on line i'm glad that the dedicated men and
4:35 am
women of the coast guard law enforcement the t.s.a. and all the other federal employees will not have to go longer without pay for their work and will receive their back pay i know the pain that this episode has caused so many can talk in and to people all over our country they deserve this resolution so going forward to help our democratic friends will stay true to the commitment they've stated constantly over the past weeks that once a government was reopen they'd be perfectly willing to negotiate in good faith on a full year of government funding that would include a significant investment in urgently needed border security measures including physical barriers after all the only way the federal workers are going to have stability and certainly beyond the next three weeks the only way our border is
4:36 am
going to have. real security is of democrats will stop playing partisan games and get serious about negotiating with the president on a long term compromise the days ahead will tell us whether our democratic colleagues are actually serious about securing our nation whether they actually mean what they say. so the president called on the senate to act on these proposals and now that there is an agreement between the democrats and the white house we can make that happen. well we've just been hearing from senate majority leader mitch mcconnell and this is interesting because that has left some in washington well many people scratching their heads as he doesn't appear to have been very proactive in times of guessing in his republican party out of this shutdown chuck schumer speaking out let's just
4:37 am
listen to some of this great news for eight hundred thousand federal workers and millions of americans who depend on government services i want to thank president trump and leader mcconnell as just outlined we have agreed to pass a clean three week continuing resolution to reopen the government also we will pass legislation in the senate related to the department of homeland security so the house and senate can participate in a conference committee on that legislation in the conference democrats and republicans will have the opportunity to negotiate the details of the homeland security bill which includes issues of border security humanitarian aid drug inspection technology and many others we expect the continuing resolution to clear the house and be signed by the president today as soon as the president
4:38 am
signs the legislation to open government we in congress will roll up our sleeves i genuinely hope that this process can produce something that is good for the country and acceptable to both sides we don't agree on some of the specifics of border security democrats are against the wall but we agree on many things such as the need for new technology and the need to strengthen security at our ports of entry and that bodes well for coming to an eventual agreement. i believe there is good faith on both sides to reach an agreement and we will work diligently to achieve one and because we've set this up as a conference for democrat and republican leadership house and senate will be involved as will the appropriators from those committees most importantly this agreement means that the government will reopen and eight hundred thousand federal
4:39 am
employees will finally get paid after over a month of increasing desperation our dedicated public servants will get the relief and the pay checks they are entitled to including back pay from the bottom of my heart i want to thank the federal workers who work so selflessly this past month they should never have to go through this again we will do everything we can to make sure they won't have to the past month has proven just how vital government services are to the american people whether that's air traffic control food safety inspections the coast guard national parks and so many so many others with this agreement t.s.a. border patrol f.b.i. agents will all be paid again for protecting our country our airports will get back
4:40 am
on track will resume maintenance of our cherished national parks and the i.r.s. can issue tax refunds in a timely manner all critical for the well being of the american people as democrats have said all along the solution to this impasse was to separate funding the government from our disagreements over border security. this agreement endorses that position it reopens the government without preconditions and gives democrats and republicans an opportunity to discuss border security without holding hundreds of thousands of american workers hostage hopefully it means a lesson has been learned shutting down the government over a policy difference is self-defeating it accomplishes nothing but pain and suffering for the country and the american people that's a lesson we all must bear in mind when this next continuing resolution expires and
4:41 am
that will make it success more likely we can never hold american workers hostage again or you. will some strong remarks there from chuck schumer but essentially what we've been hearing in the past few minutes is confirmation from senate aide as mitch mcconnell and chuck schumer that they are determined to reach an agreement strike some sort of compromise on a u.s. mexico border wall this is important because the current deal to end the shutdown the longest government shutdown in u.s. history is only temporary and does not resolve the issue at the heart of the deadlock we've seen over the past thirty five days is the border wall president trump earlier threatened another shutdown or emergency action if this wasn't resolved and that is a scenario that senate leaders and congressional leaders will be kayne to avoid
4:42 am
on our sixty three days left until united kingdom leaves the european union politicians on able to agree on any plan queen elizabeth has appealed for common ground and respect for different points of view the queen's comments didn't directly refer to us they are being widely interpreted as a rare royal intervention into the political debate paul brennan reports. she may be head of state and leader of a global commonwealth but under the u.k.'s constitutional monarchy queen elizabeth remains firmly a political so her comments during this visit to sandringham women's institute have sparked keen analysis particularly as britain's politicians are currently in deadlock over breakfast as we look for nuances in the modern age she told her audience i for one prefer the tried and tested recipes like speaking well of each other and respecting different points of view coming together to seek out the common ground and never losing sight of the bigger picture to me these approaches
4:43 am
are timeless and i commend them to everyone in a regular encounters with the prime minister and heads of state the queen is firmly neutral and doesn't express political views this latest speech made no direct reference to the brics a deadlock or even to politics but the interpretation has been unanimous what the queen has said is what we're all thinking that there has to be a compromise here that we have to find some common ground not keep advocating for positions that people have been staking out for years but recognising that the clock is ticking the sounding of speech echoes the queen's annual christmas message perhaps indicating a regal concern about levels of intolerance and animosity in much modern discourse the politicians hoping for explicit world guidance on brecht that are destined to be royally disappointed former prime minister james callaghan had an anecdote about an occasion he asked the queen for her opinion on the subject but he couldn't make
4:44 am
his mind a point she looked at me with a twinkle in her eyes he said and then she told me that's what you get paid for. paul brennan al-jazeera westminster we go to greece now where parliament has voted to write a fine agreement under which its northern neighbor will change its name to north macedonia its genius school of. complete politicians voted one hundred fifty three two hundred forty six for the un blanket which was signed last june it was approved following days of teaching to base a test as opposed to the dio braved the rain outside parliament and it won't macedonia to feature in the country's name atoll jones or office has more from athens there are a lot of positive reactions from europe particularly from nato and the european union the two bodies. which the republic of north macedonia now in theory at least stands to join to the lifting of the greek veto.
4:45 am
again stolzenberg secretary general of nato saying it's an important contribution to the stability and prosperity of the region donald tusk european council president praising the two prime ministers for their imagination and courage and putting the common good ahead of the narrow political interests but here in greece there are mixed reactions from the people that were on the square behind me earlier on very very negative reactions a very depressed atmosphere frankly after the vote it was more like a funeral than a political protest as people realize that this deal was now done the government of the minority government of alexis tsipras that has one hundred forty five m.p.'s in that three hundred seat chamber was joined by eight m.p.'s who crossed the aisle forming a majority of one hundred fifty three a rather large majority. by the standards of greek politics these days in order to
4:46 am
get this passed. well this morning everything we're covering right here al-jazeera dot com is the address and of course our top story this hour an initial deal has been reached between the u.s. president donald trump and congressional leaders to and the government shut down for three weeks but it is a temporary deal to end the longest shutdown in u.s. history crucially the issue of the us mexico border wall has not been resolved more on that few months.
4:47 am
this is the opportunity to understand a very different way were there before something happens and we don't leave our. returns or can't bring your people back to life i'm sorry with new updates on the best of documentaries in. the globe if the us. and the other student rewinds continues with me going into a war zone he said the first thing to look for is the exit it's not how to get it it's all to get out. there's no point going to these places rewind.
4:48 am
4:49 am
a temporary basis it deal is temporary president all trump announced a short time ago that has republicans and the opposition democrats have reached an agreement that will reopen the government for three weeks but there is still no solution to trump's demands for five point seven billion dollars for a border war with mexico the issue which caused the deadlock. after thirty six days of spirited debate and dialogue i have seen and heard from enough democrats and republicans that they are willing to put partisanship aside i think and put the security. of the american people first i do believe they're going to do this. alan fischer is following all this from washington and so allen west neither side was not wanting to be seen to be backing down on this matter why an agreement on the border will issue
4:50 am
to start to take shape in the coming weeks while i think that neither side wants another shutdown in this has been a very difficult time for the united states it's hit the economy there has been problems with air transport there has been questions over continued safety eight hundred thousand federal workers didn't get paid the government contractors won't get that money back and they haven't been paid as well donald trump has seen his own personal approval rating drop quite significantly no one wants to go through this pain in three weeks time and donald trump initially seemed to be very conciliatory when he says there has been spirited debate normally he doesn't miss an opportunity to take a swipe at democrats particularly when it comes to the border wall he believes that they are soft on crime and soft on border security this was a different tone from donald trump but he also laid out his bottom line he made it
