a work in progress his supporters know that but for now at least it's time to celebrate herro the main opposition p.d.p. party led by the former vice president r.t. korbel buckeyes jess issued a statement rejecting the results and saying the legal process is the only way to resolve these this disputed election as they see it this was to be expected. yes it was expected and saying all along that this was a free and the elections are expected they will go to court to try and challenge the results don't know when that will be they'll have some kind of crazy thing in dayton again like give us more details about what their plans are they've been saying that this election was fraudulent they say that in voting day ballot paper with the differently destroyed is that some voting machine didn't work and they said some polling stations the numbers just didn't tally it just didn't add up i village a commission had a statement and they said yes it was the nation's but they feel according to their

9:10 am
king john donald trump has been holding talks with and they've signed a number of deals. absolutely and it's interesting there are these parallel histories in some ways between vietnam and north korea in asia the two countries that have been the enemy of the united states and the u.s. delegation i think trying to make it very clear that vietnam is an example you can fight a very bitter war many american lives lost and yet you can still be an ally and a trading partner going forward with the united states president trump on twitter making it clear that the opportunity for north korea the potential is or some a great opportunity like almost none other in history is what he said on twitter as he sat with the successor of the men once the began amee of the u.s.
9:11 am
he made it clear that the u.s. now was on very good terms with it not we both felt very good about having this very important summit in vietnam because you really are an example as to what can happen with good thinking and on behalf of the united states i want to thank you very much for hosting and hopefully great things will happen later on with our meeting but a lot of good things are happening before and that's a signing of trade deals with the united states and we appreciate it very much thank you mr president when he talked about signing trade deals and just a few minutes after he spoke they actually did that a series of trade deals the most important of them all with of it means airline called via jets a low cost airline that's done a deal with general electric for engines five point three billion dollars and also buying new planes for viet jet one hundred boeing seven three seven max jets they
9:12 am
probably won't buy them with the full price but the list price is twelve point seven billion dollars our lies of course james on the cam summit this evening they're meeting for dinner. what are we expecting from the second summit between these two leaders any concrete commitments given that they weren't any after singapore. singapore was historic because they now it's because this is never happened before never had you had a face to face meeting for the u.s. president and the north korean leader and we saw that they got on they liked each other that defused the tensions that really has changed things dramatically from a feeling of imminent war a nuclear war that i have to say since the singapore summit in the early summer of last year there has not been a lot of progress things have stalled there has not been any great concessions by north korea this is a top down process to get things moving again they go to the top and the two
9:13 am
leaders are meeting again which is a concession in itself to north korea the fact that the u.s. is giving away one of its cards which is for the second time a meeting with president trump will be a breakthrough certainly the u.s. is playing down expectations president trump make it clear he just love this process to continue the nuclear testing and the missile testing by north korea to continue to stop maybe they're just lowering expectations so they can come up with a big surprise and we'll all be amazed by the progress that's been made not clear at this stage thank you for that james phaseout diplomatic editor in hanoi well it's not speak to jasper kim his professor of international studies at. women's university and author of face suasion the hidden forces that influence negotiations is live from seoul thank you for being with us this summit obviously being watched very closely in south korea where you are south korea has paid
9:14 am
a big role in this process what are they hoping will come out of this second came summit. well i think from south korea's perspective i think from the president's perspective here i think he wants basically an agreement where he feels like south korea is part of the mix it's just not the u.s. and north korea that are just talking about things because it really makes sense that south korea is basically on the southern side of the d.m.z. and so on to be included in the process so i think that's what south korea wants in terms of resume out a little further i think we can basically kind of title this is war and peace we have to vote who have turned into enemies or the very least front of me is i think what both of these two leaders are thinking about donald trump and kim jong un is beyond war what is it going to look like not just the korean peninsula but relations after peace whether in sprint of peace hopefully or something
9:15 am
intermediary exists here in korea but there's no doubt been a lowering of tension since the singapore summit but they don't even have a common definition of denuclearization yet and came hasn't committed to any timeline of any sort so what do you think concretely can come out of this summit in hanoi what does each side want. well i think if you're looking for specific deadlines and specific metrics i mean i think in agreement at this particular meeting there should be some but let's zoom out a little bit and take a look at the big picture this is a half century conflict it can't be done in half a day of a permanent peace doesn't mean instant peace this is not something we just add water for in the microwave for two minutes and say there you have it it's the end of the war i think this will take this meeting maybe subsequent meetings maybe with these two leaders maybe not but this is a very very complex deal it's not just dealing with the military options it's dealing with the economic future but what is enlightening here is that both trump
9:16 am
and kim jong un are kind of envisioning about what would north korea look like economically socially and after that on the back of end of that will become human rights and so on after there's a sustainable peace so i think we just have to take things step by step i think we have a lot of commentators who want everything all at once in the few hours that these two are meeting but let's be realistic about this it could take some time and so i think if we get some timelines that's good it's a good thing and so we just have to be just a little bit patient here on the question of what would north korea look like if yes it's being hailed as a model in the summit at the venue for this summit is significant of course it is a country that was once an enemy of the united states as well could the vietnam model work for north korea. oh yeah i mean it could definitely work the singapore model could work and of course the south korean model could work the
9:17 am
question is really in part is what does north korea want to work and i think that's where trump and kim when they when they meet it becomes a negotiation it's a persuasion game both kind of view each other and they look at each other and they see things that are somewhat similar in terms of the way that they think they're both media men they see the media as a way that we can kind of craft in their narrative and basically shape how the world thinks about them oftentimes they feel like all the international media has not given the full due and respect so using the media to basically craft this story and so the other side strings figure out what is the other side wants how can i give them what they want which is basically low stakes to me but high stakes for them in other words it's a win win proposition it's one where transfer of is trying to figure out what is the art of the north korean deal and i think first and foremost at the top of this list is relationships relationships relationships what you get that you get trust once you get trust you get substantive terms but without that with no trust you
9:18 am
have no agreement thank you thank you so much for speaking to us and sharing your views with us as we continue to watch these live pictures from hanoi where the u.s. president and the american delegation currently holding talks with vietnam spry minister nguyen talk they're going to be having lunch these two delegations and we will of course continue to follow all the developments out of one noise for you here on al-jazeera ahead of course of the much anticipated second summit between donald trump and kim jong il when see the two leaders due to meet for dinner i know i look if a close eye on the developments there here on al-jazeera let's move on to other world news in the meantime and a senior catholic cleric has been remanded in custody in australia until his sentence for child sex offenses next month george pal was heckled arrived at court where a judge me evoked his bail hell. molesting two choir boys at a cathedral in melbourne in one thousand nine hundred sixty faces up to fifty years

and we ask you to recognize the nature of the madeira regime and question question the purpose and likely outcome of so-called dialogue with someone who would rather block and burn donated medicine and bread than see it in the hands of venezuelan children but russia's representative to the un has accused the us of trying to back illegal border crossings into venezuela while avoiding routes for humanitarian supports. on feb twenty third we witnessed an attempt at legal state border crossing over unknown cargoes colleagues at the security council which of your countries would have acted any different even wants to build a big wall of the border of another country to prevent illegal crossings how is this any different to nine hundred eighty six when humanitarian assistance to nicaragua turned out to be an arms consignment to the contras units let's call a spade a spade it's not humanitarian assistance if the u.s.

9:25 am
where you are how serious is this situation right now. well first of all let me tell you that what you see behind me is the. administrative capital of august on the administered kashmir this morning we've been hearing fighter jets up india high above the a but go ahead from time to time and as you mentioned has been a hideous escalation along the line of control this is over seven hundred kilometers long way ahead of heavy artillery dus at several locations forcing some of the residents from that particular area out of that day he had about this on the military and then for your state of alert the bugis on a prime minister is going to be holding that national to come on dollars total day meeting that great of a culture tended by all and he needed civilian and read all of the military chiefs he has already said that d'agostini nation should be ready for any eventuality
9:26 am
earlier that brought this on the prime minister had said that india made said gratian then it would be very difficult to climb down because of the rising tensions and now progress on the military spokesman has also said that now india should be ready for august on surprise so engage a heightened state of tensions between the two countries and also the parliamentary needs will also be called a day and camera briefing today so indeed the situation very vague c.d.'s and just on now is saying that a great day ventral what happened yesterday it grows from there said you go to india next crossed the guest on saying that dead never day but of course strike any particular dog releasing that payloads and their fall before stood in the street after the pockets on the exit of strikes to intercept them so different words from

china meeting a foreign ministers and there she is really going on the diplomatic offensive reiterating statements that this was a preemptive strike and that no pakistani military or civilian installations were targeted adding that india wants to deescalate the situation now the shelling is going on between and the same time between india and box on the forces on either side of the line of control that separate indian administered kashmir from pockets on mr kashmir but the shelling is fairly common when tensions are high between the countries which they very much are right now and were able to confirm that they're shelling taking place right now in the ori decenter of the region and indeed has confirmed that five of its soldiers were injured in shelling on tuesday but india says they also destroyed five boxes down the military post on the other side of the line of control meanwhile inside indian administered kashmir we have confirmation now that a shutdown a general strike is taking place in the capital sri number and that security forces
