about food and about the area of. six kilometers or at goma goes this is these automobile issues and let's not kid ourselves that's not what i was solves because the the problem is much bigger it's about two million people living under very strict inhuman siege brooke airboats been there for it will be years and that's where your problem is that everyone should be aware of how mouse israel and the arab league that's meeting in tunisia that they had thank you very much for your analysis as always a bit of him for he had once. well let's move on to other news for now and millions of algerians have taken part in the largest nationwide anti-government protest so far that amman an overhaul of the entire political system but toyah gate and gave a pause the the for the past six weeks they've been demanding change it every level of the political establishment. and they're determined to keep up the pressure on
10:01 pm
president abdelaziz bouteflika and his back is. we're out for our children because they see governors have dropped us off everything we are tired and fed up with them they have to leave. the protests have been almost entirely peaceful in at least one location police used water cannon to break up the crowd. earlier this week the army backed protesters calls for beautifully cared to step down the ruling party its coalition partner and el jerry's biggest union have also joined the calls the him to go the national louis union reemphasized its demand that the eighty two year old president must leave office. we reiterate our support for the peaceful popular movement which calls for a change in the system of governance the creation of a new republic that respects the southern tier of the people. and the principle of

the union calls for a positive response to the demands of the people within whom the sovereign power resides. local media reported millions of people came out to demonstrate in towns and cities across the country this is the town of g. jail in the east it was a similar scene in risk on him in the west. we want to move to a real democratic country for a transitional period and to set a new algerian government which will be elected by the people and not by this government we are against this government the that even if beautifully does that will be enough for the protesters they want the resignation of the ruling elite that is that a long side beautifully kept the twenty years for anything like that to happen the powerful military would have to agree and it's very sensitive to signs of instability and then. everyone is waiting for the constitutional council to
10:03 pm
rule beautifully his fitness for office based on health reasons it's given no indication when it will make a decision if it rules the president unfit for office parliament must induced a decision by a two thirds majority even if that happens it will only just begin to fulfill the demands of hundreds of thousands of algerians who've spoken out in protest victoria gate and be there that's going to talk all spawn of iran khan who is monitoring events from neighboring tunisia is joining us live from the capital tunis it is the day off the biggest crowds will seem so far in these six weeks of protests in iran what's happening today in terms of the constitutional council what they're thinking about and also what goes around with a fake i will be considering. well we're not saying the kind of numbers of people on the streets as we saw on friday and there seems to be
10:04 pm
at least a pulls where old policies taking a look at what happens next now the protest movement has made its dumond's very clear they don't just want to get rid of. him self but they want a complete overhaul of the entire political system is very interesting the kind of pluck odds of the kind of slogans being chanted now it's all down to an article in the constitution article one zero two which allows the president to be removed by the constitutional council as long as there's a two thirds majority in parliament that agree to that so everybody the protesters are waiting to see if the constitutional council will make a ruling and then it goes to parliament if that happens it's at least one step and one demand that has been met but it won't be enough and these protests are likely to get bigger and bigger and bigger because the protesters see themselves as having the people on their side the numbers of people on their side as well that was
10:05 pm
interesting the army one of the most important institutions within itself is trying to reach out to the protestors is trying to me at least some of their demands in fact for the first time on friday these protests were actually shown lawyer on national t.v. now there were reports of lee restrictions on showing them live there was no state t.v. allowed to show any criticism of the army the criticism all beautifully was allowed to be shown on state t.v. so that's a significant development within itself however it's all now down to what happens next the protesters are demanding a very real change and something something that the army is taking a look at but it has to move very slowly it can't just radical change the army's very. fearful of instability within the country but the protestors know they have like a say people on their side and they have the numbers of people on their side and
10:06 pm
the army simply have to pay attention and ron thank you very much for that for now that is i'm wrong on the latest joining us live from neighboring to thank you. britain remains deadlocked over the future of bricks that half of politicians voted against the prime minister's deal for a third time to resume had promised to resign if it was passed she now has just under two weeks to come up with a new plan if not russian faces the prospect of crashing out of the european union without a deal. mr speaker i feel we are reaching the limits of this process in this house this house. this house has rejected no deal it has rejected no brick sit on wednesday it rejected all the variations of the deal on the table and today it has rejected approving the withdrawal agreement alone and continuing

10:10 pm
that's going to talk correspondent ha ha been hot and she's joining us live from london and some of those m.p.'s what i have sent a letter to the prime minister we hear and what are they saying. well they're saying two things the first one is they're asking. to now seriously consider doing option that means a hard brett said crashing out of the e.u. probably by april twelfth which is the deadline set by the european union with no deal even though you have to remember that parliament had actually voted against this option a while ago and they gained last week in it was part of one of those. indicative votes rather not so i don't know how she got government in the end could take that this it doesn't need to listen to parliament it could go ahead with that the second
10:11 pm
point they are. away from the customs union now again going back to do is indicative wednesday that customers union is the one that feared debenture all of this option even though did no one in all of these options but it was the one that came closer to a yes so that's what we haven't heard from her we don't know if there really considering this or no but i think at this point probably she will wait to see what will happen on monday in the second round of indicative of what. well she has all the options really on the table it goes from maybe going for a no deal to trying maybe to put forward that withdrawal agreement again for a fourth vote there are whispers that maybe she is considering that even though
10:12 pm
it's not official yet. based on the idea that each vote she actually fared better and better even though she has never won but she's getting she is gradually getting closer to that she could call for a general election she could also maybe follow what some of the labor. is which is we get a deal and we give back the final world. another referendum at this point really do only option that is not on the table. you don't have a deal that has been agreed by parliament so the getting out of the e.u. on may twenty second that's completely gone now with. she continues to say that she favors what she calls an orderly exit from this point that's the one option that's not there thank you very much for that and now that. with the latest live in london

thank you and plenty more ahead on the news hour including aid agencies rush to stem an encrease and colorado cases and mines and became the way five point eight i . stop illegal immigration or the border closes next week the u.s. president issues an ultimatum to mexico. and in sports tiger what set up a last sixteen match play showdown joe will tell you who will be playing. leaders are gathering entity as capital in tunis for the thirtieth the arab league summit the twenty two member states are dealing with several key. tensions issues un secretary general antonio tears one chair meeting on the political crisis and libya the wars in syria and yemen will also be on the agenda let's go to our correspondent there he is at the summit he's joining us live from tunis so no shortage of big issues as they meet for their thirtieth summit.
10:14 pm
indeed they have many issues to tackle or we've we've got a glimpse of the draft of the final communique which says that the arab league rejects the move by the u.s. to recognize israel's occupation of the golan heights saying that decision is void and violation of the international law they also say that they dismiss and the american decision to recognize israel's occupation of jerusalem insisting that the two thousand and two peace initiative is still a valid point in exchange for recognition of israel the israelis have to recognize a palestinian state with with jerusalem as its capital the final communique also talks about what he describes as iranian growing influence in the region asking iran to put out its militias from from the region
10:15 pm
a reference to places like syria. and also yemen no talk about the humanitarian crisis in yemen and this was widely expected because of the huge influence of sunday arabia in the summer so they wouldn't go for any ally and that would further upset sons arabia condemnation usually historically speaking the arab league is one of the most inefficient organizations in the world widely seen by the arabs as completely disconnected from reality so when the condemned the u.s. or the u.s. or israel it just be is that they're doing this to pay lip service to the angry audience this is it so we are expecting anything then on any of those major issues from the summit one of they likely to achieve you. the most important event happening this afternoon is the courtiers meeting on libya where you know united nations as you launch on your good terrorist along with more
10:16 pm
greenie the foreign affairs commissioner the african union and also the other big are going to try to find ways to break the political impasse in libya and this is quite a critical moment i mean since the start of the crisis the international committee has been trying to bridge the gap between two key players in libya the salaries the prime minister of the government based in tripoli and running general in the east that didn't work there were many attempts in palermo in italy in paris and also in the united arab emirates it didn't work to the point where the government base in tripoli is lashing out at the u.n. saying that they don't seem to be deluded genuine about implementing genuine a four hundred one is backed by the u.a.e. and saudi arabia and egypt and the government in tripoli is concerned that's the have the could be used by these countries to further advance their own agenda in libya the u.n. is trying other this meeting which is going to happen this afternoon to convince all the parties to negotiate
10:17 pm
a new political framework there would unify the security apparatus the army and also move forward with the with the government is going to be followed by a national conference in the darkness in the south of libya next next month but i have to say the tension is mounting in libya and many factions in the country are extreme or a critical of the u.n. and of the united nations envoy larsen salome thank you very much for that for now that is hashem live in tunis thank you. now protesters have rallied in southwest yemen calling on saudi backed government forces to take full control of thise province. but the fighters have besieged the city of fires for more than four years an estimated two hundred thousand civilians have been caught up in the fighting most of the city has remained under the control of government forces but regularly attacked with artillery shells and sniper fire. pope francis has

10:19 pm
this area over the next few days things are clearing up but not for long because what we are watching is what is happening here very very carefully this next storm system is going to bring some very heavy rain again across parts of not only into the western part of iraq as well as into iran but also here across the west the eastern parts of the med over the next few days this area is still very saturated so any rain falling across this area over the next few days is going to be causing some widespread flooding and as you can see here as we go towards monday and in from where from that northwestern part of iran all the way down here across the south well we expect to see probably about one hundred to two hundred more militaries of rain and that is exactly what we saw earlier causing that widespread flooding across that region. thank you very much kevin now still ahead on the king's hour back in the dark widespread power outages had venezuela's capital and other cities and in sports the king himself a broad james carries the l.a.

10:22 pm
bricks that often politicians watch against the prime minister's deal for a third time to reason may now has just under two weeks to come up with a new plan and pope francis has arrived in morocco for a two day visit focusing on interfaith relations the head of the roman catholic church is hoping to improve dialogue between muslims and christians. now u.s. president donald trump is reported to have demanded north korea hand over its nuclear weapons at the head of a summit last month that's according to a report from the roaches news agency said to have presented kim jong un with a document calling for the transfer of jong yang's nuclear weapons and bomb fuel to the u.s. it is the first time trump would have explicitly defined what he meant by denuclearization to kim a lunch between the two leaders was canceled the same day before the summit was cut short let's get more on this we're joined by correspondent patty contained she's live for us in washington d.c. we are hearing more now patty about exactly what was in the document that president
10:23 pm
trump gave. well yes we are in this again is coming from the reuters news agency so we know that kim jong un wanted to negotiate directly just with president donald trump as you know he's been sending him letters that the present u.s. president calls love letters and that they have a great relationship so kim jong un really very much only wanted to negotiate with the president so his staff seemed a bit worried about that afraid that he would make concessions so they wrote out this letter of demands and now according to reuters we know what was in it and here's the sticking point we know john bolton the national security advisor he's wanted to pursue what he calls the libya model in that libya gave up all of its nuclear and chemical weapons they thought in exchange for sanctions relief sentence of the u.s. well that infuriated the north koreans because they said look what happened to moammar gadhafi was overthrown and killed by rebels in his own country so then the president came out and said no we don't want the libya model that doesn't apply here but if you look at what according to reuters is in the letter it's basically
10:24 pm
exactly what they call the libya model it's hand over all of your ballistic missiles hand over your nuclear weapons your nuclear fuel to the u.s. full inspections getting rid of all of the infrastructure for missile launches so it's a really strong asked of the north koreans and some indication now could be why the talks simply fell apart the president says he walked away but it seems clear that the north koreans were not going to adhere to that list of demands and patty this might explain you know why we heard from north korean officials after the summit saying that national security adviser john bolton that perhaps even secretary of state had to use what they called what the north koreans had called you know like tactics with these negotiations. exactly because what they were hoping the north koreans were hoping that they could get serious sanctions relief if they simply dismantled one facility obviously that's not going to be good enough for the national security establishment inside the united states there were
10:25 pm
a lot of reports that there was very clear concern among the president's top advisers that if he was in that room one on one with kim jong il and after all of the flatterer we know this is a president that it's up to susceptible to flattery that he would say ok great will lift sanctions and you dissed get rid of one facility so by sending this letter they were laying out the stakes and there are some critics here in the united states say that by doing this they were all but ensuring that the talks would break down which in fact they did so where do things stand now we had earlier this month from secretary of state he said that you know they were hoping to send a team to north korea and the coming weeks there's been no sign of that has there no there hasn't been so the question is is north korea going to be willing to negotiate with the national security establishment inside the united states are they going to hold out hope that they can flatter president trump enough that he would venture gives in we don't know where things stand we do know the president
10:26 pm
wants to see a win with north korea he likes to claim credit for defusing the situation that to be honest he actually inflamed quite a bit when he started tweeting out that north korean leader was little rocket man and fire and fury like the world is never seen before those sorts of threats but he wants to see a deal made he likes to say that it should have been left up to him that his predecessors couldn't get it done but he can remember this is a man who says he created the art of the deal he didn't ghostwriter did but that is sort of his mo and he wants to be able to say to his supporters look this was a really big threat and i solved it. and he thank you very much for that for now that is patty callahan with the latest on this live in washington d.c. thank you. now the number of cholera cases in the city of beta and mozambique has risen to two hundred and seventy one well the country continues to deal with the aftermath of cyclon it i once had more than two weeks ago damage to water and sanitation facilities has raised fears about
10:27 pm
a potential epidemic the world health organization as expecting one hundred thousand cholera vaccine doses to arrive by monday. well let's get more on this we're joined by iran saudi an emergency coordinator with doctors without borders joining us on skype from paris very good to have you with us on al jazeera so firstly what are you hearing about the situation and better. so i mean i've gone back to the team this morning so they are working very hard to be able at the same time to treat the jews just that are reaching the strict truth and then to bill news could you to increase the capacity for the number of beds that we really needed to treat all the patients for the coming weeks and we heard that there's something like nine hundred thousand doses of vaccine that are going to be arriving in beta what else is needed right now most of the
10:28 pm
vaccination is a very needed and it should start next wednesday next week the faster we go the most chance we have to go to transmission. of the in the book relation then there is a big need for community engagement if water distribution. for all of these population of bare object also for the districts around the where are where there is a i risk for cases there or so and how difficult is it to do all of this given that it is you know two weeks after one of the worst weather disasters to have ever hit the southern hemisphere. so the first week was first and there's have been very difficult for communication for transportation but it's getting a bit easier at the manse. the beginning of the week we had. a lot of the
10:29 pm
congo plan who could land in there in better bringing supplies and medical what sun and logistics so a lot of work in front of us and the need for also the other an organization and what else needs to happen to make sure that the cases are contained and better that they don't spread so that the first thing is to treat the kiss is we are going now and that's what the team is working well working on a community involvement so we find this is as soon as possible also the treatment is easier and then we will have to to do the vaccination in the surrounding districts more or less at the same time that in the house that is doctors without borders law and sally joining us live from paris with thank you very much for your time on this thank you thank you going back to the u.s.

our president donald trump has threatened to close the country's southern border next week on this mexico stops people from crossing illegally trump and says he isn't playing games and one that could affect all trade between the two countries mike hanna reports from washington d.c. . in recent weeks port officials have been repeatedly arguing that they simply do not have the facilities to cope with the influx of immigrants across the border they say there are not enough officers there and they simply do not have enough accommodation for the numbers that are coming across this obviously playing on president trump's mind eating to his angry outbursts in the course of the day. president trump arrives to view a rehabilitation project at a lake in florida but it's not the dwindling water level or this dam wall that's a foremost on his mind rather his fury with what he describes as mexico's
10:31 pm
reluctance to prevent immigration across the southern border so mexico is tough they can stop them but they chose not to now they're going to stop them and if they don't stop them with closing the border they will close their work we'll keep a close for a long time i'm not playing games mexico has to stuff it this repeating what he said in earlier tweets if mexico doesn't immediately stop all illegal immigration coming into the united states through our southern border emitting the h. in his anger i will be closing the border or large sections of the border next week it's a threat the president made back in december but never carried it through however his latest comments follow warnings from the department of homeland security that its resources have become strained and border officials say more people are expected to be apprehended at the border this march than in any month in more than a decade. the consequences of closure would be severe impacting on two way trade
10:32 pm
that is worth more than six hundred billion dollars a year and fueling president trumps fire his homeland secretary kirsten nielsen issued a press statement later on in the day saying that the situation at the border was in freefall very strong words from the homeland secretary and words that the president is likely to seize on in the days ahead now mexico's president has reacted to trans threats but he was reluctant to get into a war of words. no more your. believe me said somebody just i'm not going to start an argument over this i'm going to be very cautious due to a series of circumstances along them because we want to lead a very good relationship with the government of the united states. now hundreds of central american asylum seekers are on the us mexico border are in limbo under the trump of ministrations hardline policies the regulations require migrants to remain

in mexico for moms on the sometimes carious conditions until their court dates. reports from the mexican border city of tijuana. it's another day at a migrant shelter on the us mexico border almost everyone here is from central america and they are seeking asylum in the united states. in the past migrants would be allowed to wait in the u.s. while the cases were considered but a change in policy by the trumpet ministration now requires them to be sent back to mexico until their case numbers are called yes back at the i arrived in tehran and applied for a number because they said that with the number everything would work out now i'm seeing that's an up case. most of the people at this shelter have been here for several months many of them tell us they don't feel safe just. the americans asked me if i had somewhere to stay and. i said no we don't we don't have family here or anything they our.
