hello and welcome i'm peter w. watching al-jazeera life i have quarters here also coming up. stepping up the pressure sudanese protesters plan to name their own civilian transitional team to take over the country. disturbing new numbers from the war in yemen the death toll which is at least seventy thousand a number far higher than previously reported also. i mean it's a partner in the house in eastern france rebuilding not a dam won't be easy but this cathedral proves that it can be done. the u.s. president donald trump is on the offensive after the release of the heavily censored mother reports into allegations of russian meddling in the twenty sixteen u.s. presidential election she's calling it a quote total victory and in the last hour or so. he's taken to twitter calling the
10:50 pm
document the crazy mullah report and labeled the entire thing a hoax house speaker nancy pelosi is organizing amusing for monday so they can plan their next move calling for the report to be released in full and despite the report clearly blaming russian entities for trying to influence the u.s. elections doesn't seem bothered it's all the foreign minister saying nothing in the report warrants the kremlin's attention in a moment we'll speak to rob reynolds who's in west palm beach florida where mr trump is this easter weekend first let's go to washington and my colleague kimberly hell kid so kimberly mrs pelosi what she's saying about it. now well she is not happy with the actions of the justice department with the release of the redacted mulla report her view is that there may be a need for congress to take further action her view is that while the attorney general has said that the conclusions are that donald trump did not obstruct
10:51 pm
justice with review of that four hundred forty eight page report congress isn't quite sure it is reaching the same conclusion so not only has the house judiciary issued a subpoena to get the full and complete four hundred forty eight page report on redacted but is also as you point out holding a conference call on monday at four pm local time to discuss further steps the view is that while robert muller declined to prosecute the president he did put on congress the responsibility to conduct oversight. whatever the issue and challenge that we face the congress of the united states will honor its oath of office to protect and defend the constitution of the united states to protect our democracy we believe that the first article article one the legislative branch has a responsibility of oversight of our democracy and we will exercise that. and kimberly if the republican party take their lead from what mr trump is saying on
10:52 pm
twitter just in the past ninety minutes or so they're going to come out fighting as well when it comes to countering the democratic investigations absolutely here in washington republicans are already putting forward their attacks trump supporters saying that this is just another vindication of the president by the fact that the robert muller the special prosecutor refused to prosecute the president they're also saying and pointing the fingers at democrats and they're vowed to press on with further investigations that this is just an extension of their resistance if you will refusing to accept the outcome of the twenty sixteen u.s. election and target donald trump's presidency there is also a promise on the part of republicans to do their own investigating into whether or not robert mueller and his team were objective in their review and if in fact there was any tainting of political bias by the f.b.i. so what the ordinary american can conclude from all of this is that if they thought
10:53 pm
the release of the mullah report was going to put things to rest it is just the opposite it seemed to fuel the division in this country this existed for the last two years that appears to be continuing kimberly thanks very much joining us live from west palm beach in florida is our correspondent rob reynolds you're there because mr trump is in town this easter weekend he's clearly angry on twitter. that's right peter president from woke up in an angry and profane mood this morning apparently firing off early morning tweets one of which you can see on your screen now saying statements are made about me by certain people in that crazy mullah report in itself written by eighteen angry democrats from pater's which are fabricated and totally untrue president then goes on to say that these to warn about people who made notes of conversations with him apparently he's referring to white house staffers or lawyers on his legal team who then used
10:54 pm
those notes when they spoke to robert muller's investigators to to make themselves look good and to make the president look bad he says and he describes these statements quoting president donald jake from now as total bullshit . but he must be thinking possibly rolled ahead towards monday because he's going to be ready presumably if he's a lawyer topple ready i guess he is depending upon how the democrats decides to push through old the all the stuff that was in the mullah report distilled down into some sort of legal process. that's right and i think what you see if you look at donald trump's history as president and as a businessman is that when he is that fact goes on the offensive you see that also
10:55 pm
a hint of that in the tweets this morning at one point he called the entire moeller investigation an illegal hoax so there's some indication that he will go after democrats who seek to pursue the entire matter and follow up on the threads and the blueprint that molar left in his report possibly to a question of questions about impeachment and that the president will will hit back at them and also hit back at investigators because there's already a justice department inspector general investigation of the origins of the probe into the. possible collusion between the front administration trump campaign i should say and the russians in twenty sixteen rob thank you very much. ok let's move on to another big story for you this turkey has detained two people
10:56 pm
for allegedly spying on arab nationals on behalf of the united arab emirates let's get more now from the session am who joins us live from istanbul natasha what else do we know about these two individuals. well we now know peter that according to sources these two men were arrested inside a hotel room on monday also seized was an encrypted computer stashed in a hidden compartment of some sort these men have been described as intelligence operatives and since they've been interior gated beginning monday they've now admitted that they were here collecting information on behalf of the united arab emirates however they are not citizens of the u.a.e. now the operatives have been under turkish surveillance for six months and sources tell us that they have done a number of things they allegedly contacted a turkish analyst they inquired about qatar's foreign investments in turkey qatar
10:57 pm
and turkey are very close allies the u.a.e. is part of a saudi led blockade intended against qatar intended to isolate the country now the men also contacted a suspect allegedly in the. case you'll recall that saudi and washington post columnist your malka shoji was murdered inside the saudi consulate here in istanbul last october something that raise international condemnation around the world a senior official tells reuters that one of these operatives arrived days after murder and then on the heels of that first operatives arrivals came a second man to poach help with the workload a source tells all jazeera that the operatives may also have been here to spy on arab dissidents since the arab spring in two thousand and eleven. and turkey has become a safe haven if you will mini arab dissidents are now living here in exile another
10:58 pm
prevailing theory though peter is that perhaps these operatives were here as part of the jamal khashoggi investigation the u.a.e. is a close ally of saudi arabia and as i mentioned face international outrage after quiz show geez murder now sources also say that with turkey's relationship with saudi arabia and egypt freighting that perhaps these operatives were here sent by the u.a.e. as part of a new avenue to open up intelligence gathering here interior turkey now for the time being we know this that the interrogations have ended and that these men are expected to face military political and international espionage charges atocha thank you. thousands of protesters are still gathered outside the military headquarters in sudan's capital after the biggest rally since the overthrow of the president of the shia last week the protesters want a civilian led transition they're expected to name a team on sunday to take charge of the country the ruling military council promises
10:59 pm
reforms have done little to satisfy people's demands so how did sudan get here well by the end of last year protests over the rising cost of bread but soon came demands that omar al bashir stopped more than one thousand protesters were detained by government forces in february sudan's national security and intelligence services said bashir would step down but the president remained defiant declaring a national state of emergency by april thousands of demonstrators reached the military headquarters and the police said they would support a quote peaceful transition of power on april the eleventh the military announced the bashir had been ousted under rested but that still not appease the protesters have all come from cotton. regional and international governments are putting pressure on political parties in sudan and the military council which is currently running the country to form a transitional government the african union has given sudan up until the end of the
11:00 pm
month to form a government or it will lose its or it will suspend its membership in the african union meanwhile the political parties are differing on how the transitional government should be formed and what it should look like some political parties want a transitional period of up to one year while others including the sudanese professional association the body that has been spearheading the calls for protests for the past four months say that the transitional period should be up to four years and should include a presidential independent council a legislative assembly and a cabinet made up of members from technocrats basically people who they say will be qualified to run the country for the four years while it takes time to get rid of elements from the former government and the former ruling party the military council is also opposing.
