indeed well in the 2014 elections you know render modi was fighting for this seat for the 1st time but does as a backup he wanted to also fight for a 2nd seat in dora and he won both of those seats he gave up by the door there was a by election there he concentrated his efforts during his parliamentary term here environ i see improving the road structures and also the banks of the various rivers and tributaries here within the city now he is hoping that he will retain this seat the 5 years of the very controversial here in india and therefore the big opposition heavyweights have been here in the last few days and certainly over the last few weeks certainly trying to make a dent into that very large win that he had back in 2014 now it's not the case that people here think that he won't win there's a general sense of humor for he will do it but the opposition want to make a severe dent into his majority that he got here to maybe prove to the people as a whole across india that he's not entirely as popular now as he was then but we

a string of faults discovered in the aircraft systems let's get more on this we're joined by all of them again a former u.s. deputy assistant secretary for transportation under president clinton is joining us live from lubbock texas very good to have you with us on al jazeera so boeing admitting the software faults saying it's made corrections are they enough mr mckay . this may be a long haul for boeing he lives with boeing is really our new shuttle and these are very complex flying systems that are in the upper tried through lower upper stratosphere but it requires risk management and this simulation the simulators are very important to the airline operators they can cost about tens of millions of dollars over the life of the aircraft so american airlines is already on board saying we're going to get those simulators and we're going to get more data and information to the manufacturer from the pilots where the maneuverability and controllability the impasse takes place when this airplane is diving in

cas was to after the accidents occurred that is a risk management problem and that puts it in the realm of the challenger and the columbia shuttle accidents we can get boeing back on track and i've been calling for a long time for them to go back into a clean sheet designed to get this aircraft welfare dynamically and structurally stable right now i'm concerned about it are they willing to do that. well that's a lot of balance with the stock price on the on and on the wall street i think what we're seeing is a balance between getting the plane back up so they can stop bleeding the millions of dollars of billions of dollars are losing and then get this thing back up in the air but i'm willing to bet that inside very quietly inside boeing there are really doing some type of clean sheet redesign because this is too much every time we get a news new story about something brand new that wasn't disclosed wasn't shared with the f.a.a. and what we're doing is we're trying to do risk management and get plane back up in but also we need to do a little bit of brand management here because we have an f.a.a.

have to get the credibility back and the other safety agencies around the world by those so many layers and they're going to test it themselves and you know mr mcgee they are facing a credibility problem i want to go back to what you were saying about how they got this wrong how could they get this wrong because 346 people have died as a result. well i think it was i like to call it what my friends in a classroom when i teach aircraft structures a texas tech i call it group think sometimes you can get so much energy in an organization to go one direction that country and thinking gets clouded behind and the contouring think contrarian thinking in this aircraft is just structural stability combined with the arithmetic stability that i can look at but sometimes that's hard to get through with a company messages to get the plane up and this has been a big seller for them and they still have a whole lot more planes to sell about 5000 so if i were boeing and i were the

a short drive away. television well let's get more on this knowledge on by ali abunimah the co-founder of electronic and the father an online news publication focusing on palestine and joins us from chicago in the u.s. mr always a pleasure to have you with us on al-jazeera how successful do you think the boycott movement has been and deterring a year of vision fans from attending the see i know you've been following the efforts across the world. i think it was successful in a number of ways one is that the number of your of vision to her wrists was actually tiny it was a fraction of the number who went to lisbon last year and in fact thousands of tickets for the 3 year of vision shows went on sold with the israeli public broadcaster had to start giving them away so it was a flop in that sense and i think it was
11:26 am
a flop in the sense that you know israel's political agenda in hosting your evasion was to completely hide the fact that that is occupying millions of palestinians depriving them of their rights and as we saw in the report to present itself as a fun normal country where your tourists can go and have a great time but if you look at much of the international media coverage it did talk about the boycott madonna who was supposed to be sort of a big star attraction was forced to contend with the demands for boycotts and although none of the big international you know none of the can contestants decided to stay away in the end nonetheless israel did not get what it wanted which was a controversial uncontroversial funny or a vision but won't they take notice of that and does that put real pressure on the as as israeli government because their policies the. the occupation continues
11:27 am
unabated. i think that what that document that house thing in smale is that if israel continues to be treated as a normal country and continues to be rewarded with international events like this then israel has no reason to change and that's exactly the logic of the boycott divestment and sanctions movement which after all is inspired by the movement that helped and apartheid in south africa there was a time in the 1970 s. where it was perfectly normal for a big international artist to go and. perform before segregated audiences and the white supremacist regime of south africa but the boycott movement made that unacceptable and the south african regime tried to use arts and culture to whitewash its racism but the international movement said no we're not going to
11:28 am
allow that and we're starting to see that let's remember that more than a 100 l.g.b. t.q. groups a lot of international artists a lot of prominent people including former euro vision content contestants in europe vision hosts did call for a boycott and said we card to allow israel to be rewarded and to act like it's just perfectly normal while snipers of murdering children in gaza one thing that was really striking about this was that the so called your efficient village was built directly on top of the ruins of the jaffa neighborhood of a palestinian neighborhood that was ethnically cleansed by the end of june terrorist organization 1948 and i think that's a perfect example of the white washing that the movement is protesting mr abbott
