protest leaders after breaking up for a 2nd day of the issue of who should lead the new governing body does remain a key sticking point protesters say they will keep demonstrating on the streets of khartoum until a civilian led government's been installed talks between the 2 sides were halted for 3 days while demonstrators removed roadblocks they had put up in the capital morgan has more now from car too. people in front of the army headquarters in sudan's capital hard to say that they're disappointed that the opposition coalition has the declaration of freedom and change and the transitional military council could not reach a deal yet again now the 2 sides could not agree on the sovereign presidential council the military council has been saying that it wants to be the one chairing that body and it wants either equal representation or military majority and that presidential council but the opposition coalition are saying that if that happens and if they agree to it then the transitional period will be led by the military and that's not something that they or the protesters in front of the army

headquarters are asking for they're saying that it should be led by civilians and should have a civilian majority so that's one thing to decide could not agree on there's also the issue of the role now the opposition coalition wanted to have a ceremonial role with oversight from the legislative assembly which it will have 2 thirds of the seat but the military council is saying that it wanted to be the one that presidential council to be the one having oversight over the transitional period so that point of contention and the fact that the 2 sides could not reach a deal shows that once again they have a lot of things to talk about as thousands in front of the army headquarters to continue with this that and they say they've already listened to the military council and that they remove the roadblocks and they've offered some concessions so they want to see what comes next and they also say they're waiting for the opposition coalition to decide what comes next as well and if there should be a next escalation to try to put pressure on the military council or whether they should wait for further talks which may produce results or may not present produce results. the u.n. says it may be forced to scale back the delivery of humanitarian aid to some parts

democracy and election board ruled out claims by opposition parties of systematic cheating due to a lack of evidence the commission will officially declare would go to the winner by may the 28th if there are no legal challenges by the opposition parties let's talk now to ben bland ben is the director of the lowy institute south east asia project he joins us live from sydney would it be fair to say what we'll probably get now is more of the same. it's certainly looks like it this is been a resoundingly victory for joko widodo known as the president he's actually increased his margin of victory from 6 percent last time to more than 10 percent this time so that's a positive sign there's there's wind in his sails but he's a character we know well he's someone who prefers compromise to confrontation so i think we're likely to see him pushing further ahead with his plans to develop the economy build more infrastructure and maybe something he's talked about which is new have a new focus on skills and training as indonesia tries to find jobs for the 2000000

young people who are entering the workforce every year but if you're balancing confrontation with compromise and you prefer a compromise does that mean that he's he's going to not have to delay what he wants to push through but it might be a slower process. i think it will be slow and steady you want to resoundingly victory but the results also show that indonesia is a deeply polarized country so. very strongly in areas where non muslims are in the majority like farley the hindu island many people go on holiday there for the opposition candidate won very strong in more conservative islamic parts of indonesia so i think that shows there's a deep part of the ization in indonesia and he's going to have to overcome that if you want to push ahead with reforms which are tough and there are a vested interest in indonesia but want to block some of the reforms that would open up the economy and create better jobs and opportunities going forward can he deliver going forward on those big promises that he was making during the campaign
6:12 am
on the economy and also of course on the infrastructure issues in the country. i think he will make some progress he did a lot of hard infrastructure in the 1st time building roads bridges airports etc but i think it's going to be much more tough when it comes to things like skills training opening up indonesia to foreign investment those areas where domestic investors have a big stake and they will be reluctant to see reforms that might bring in new competitors either domestically or from outside so i think he will push ahead he said that now he's not limited because there's 2 term limits is needed he doesn't have to seek reelection he can be braver but i think we'll have to see what he does not what he says because as i mentioned earlier he's always been a cautious leader in many respects one gets the feeling that the opposition is quite bitter about what happened to it. as a result of the election i mean will the choose to just the political grenades in

front of him or will they do what's good for the country i think we'll see a bit of both so the losing candidate has insisted that the actions been stolen from him as he did in the previous election which he also lost there are a lot of police on the streets of jakarta today because there's a fear about from both supporters protesting the election results but at the same time as that concern i think in the past we've often seen the opposition into the move close to the new government of the day as they seek patronage maybe positions in the cabinet so i think you have a mixed reaction some will continue to protest the results and others will seek a way modus vivendi with the new government as they seek to get jobs get opportunities with the president reelected. thank you. ground still to cover for you here on al-jazeera including ukraine's new president is sworn in and takes to the political stage in dramatic fashion plus. i'm wayne
