every. sedans opposition begins a nationwide strike after a deadlock in talks with the military leadership. i'm richelle carey this is out there live from doha also coming up and forced disappearances and extrajudicial killings a human rights watch report on sinai details alleged abuses against civilians by egyptian security forces. and al jazeera investigation tracks secret cargo flights that appear to be helping the libyan warlord trying to capture the capital tripoli . and we'll tell you how the violence in yemen is keeping
11:01 am
a generation of children away from school. today nationwide strike has begun and sudan there are disruptions at the capital's airport with employees walking off the job the strike has been organized by the opposition to pressure military leaders to start a new round of talks protest leaders demanding a civilian led administration want to break the deadlock with sudan's military council which replace ousted president omar al bashir codell to the market his life for us in khartoum so this strike here but how much pressure might this actually put on the military council. well at the moment we're shows just the 1st day the 1st hours of the strike that has been called for by the opposition coalition we've already seen employees from the national airport from the international airport walking out in their jobs some flights cancelled but other flights still resuming
11:02 am
we've also seen some bank employees civil servants coming out of their offices holding signs saying that they are on strike in support of the opposition coalitions of course civilian government employees for the resumption of talks so it seems to be having some kind of impact but how deep that impact will be we will know by the end of the day or by the end of tomorrow it is a 2 day strike we will it remains to be seen if the opposition coalition is going to hold on to that already said that they will continue with their civil disobedience with their strike until talks resume between them and the transitional military council and they have said that they are open to negotiations and they want to reach an agreement with the military council. if we reach an agreement then all we want is the agreement and for us to work as partners in order to guarantee a smooth and peaceful transition to a civilian government if we do not agree as we said we will escalate things using our peaceful civilian methods which is strikes protests and civil disobedience we
11:03 am
can use civil disobedience if we do not reach an agreement but we hope that we do not have to resort to open strikes and complete civil disobedience because for us that means many steps and it would only be in return for all our demands not being met not when our demands are partially met so the way things stand now he bears it likely that the 2 sides will actually resume talking anytime soon. one of the leaders of the military council and the opposition coalition may not be talking but their technical committees the military council technical committee and the opposition technical committee are still in talks the military council spokesman said just a few days ago that they are continuing to try to aryan out the differences between the 2 sides but this progress is very slow and if they do not reach any kind of agreement in terms of forming a transitional government and the stalemate continues then there will be elections so there seems to be a bit of a tough tone coming from both sides from the military council who's calling who says that an election will be held if the 2 sides will reach
11:04 am
a deal and from the opposition coalition who are saying that they will not accept early calls for elections because simply the nation is not ready according to them so it seems that the 2 sides still are sticking to their positions both sides with the military council saying that it wants to be the one sharing the sovereign council which has been the sticking point between the 2 sides and the opposition coalition saying it wants to really and so it doesn't look like the 2 sides are able to reach an agreement but if they will sit down and talk it will be the result of an emperor and the impact of the strike in the coming 48 hours or shot so we will see if that strike will bring the military council and the opposition coalition to the negotiating table or whether we'll have to wait for an escalation before the 2 sides meet again ok but morgan live for us in khartoum thank you. mass arrests in forced disappearances and extrajudicial killings just some of the allegations being leveled against egyptian security forces in the sinai and by a new human rights watch report thousands of soldiers have been waging a military campaign against high school deleted groups in the region since 201330 least 40000 troops in sinai today and the report says the military and police have

made more than 12000 arrests human rights watch says detainees often face abuse and as many as a 1000 are being held without trial at one of 3 secret sites the report says violence in the sinai peninsula has forced tens of thousands of residents to flee it blames both sides for human rights abuses against civilians amounting to war crimes since fighting intensified egypt's arms imports have grown by 215 percent making it one of the biggest arms importers in the world. is a middle east and north africa researcher at human rights watch he says abuses highlighted in the report are widespread. we believe that many of these abuses are systematic and widespread which is which means that it cannot really be. just. the boss or some bad officers acting on their own to have.
11:06 am
and we also say that. there could be a responsibility for a commander and senior commanders and also civilian officials in the egyptian government who knew or should have knew about should have known about these abuses and should have stopped it and we hold for accountability for all of these officials because of the failure. government to really in this loop in the abuses or even just acknowledge in your own doink in the sinai peninsula we actually call on the united nations human rights council to stop this independent inquiry of. independent commission of inquiry and also similarly the african commission should do the same and we call on countries to use. domestic loads of universal jurisdiction to actually pursue any officials involved in war crimes in the sinai region. and libya forces loyal to the un recognized government are trying to push

violating the weapons in bargo and there are many countries supplying weapons to both sides but the primary. country for furnishing arms to have star and he is u.a.e. and the primary country supporting the defense of tripoli in the west is turkey we are quite sure that the emirates have built an airbase for drones in the south of thing ghazi and these drones have been used on at least 7 occasions to hit civilian targets in tripoli as well as many other occasions to hit military targets now the latest reports the jazeera did are remarkable they raise more questions than the answer of course but we see planes flying from jordan from israel from a number of other countries that are probably related to not only the provision of armored vehicles but also drone technology and and other types of weapons all of which are banned by the u.n. so both sides are sort of pots calling the kettle black and and naming the other

side there are some theories that the reason why you supported have start to attack on a april 4th was because of a delayed turkish arms shipment so that these arms shipments are having major impact on the conflict in libya at least 2 people have been killed in a stabbing attack and japan happened during rush hour in the city of callus hockey the attacker appears to have targeted children as they made their way to school when he reports. the attack happened just before 8 in the morning in this usually quiet suburb of kawasaki city as children were waiting to board a bus to go to a nearby private catholic elementary school a man attacked a group of girls with knives it appears he deliberately targeted the students but some adults were also caught in the violence eyewitnesses say the attacker was carrying 2 knives the latest stabbed himself and died in hospital not.
