blockade 2 years ago she had been wholly for al thani is joining diplomats from saudi arabia the u.a.e. bahrain and other countries in mecca summits expected to focus on regional security issues including tensions between iran and the u.s. the invitation to catalyze leaders suggest the blockading countries may be softening their stance against. well catalans gulf neighbors cut diplomatic ties and imposed economic blockade 2 years ago next week the blockading countries include saudi arabia the united arab emirates rein egypt and others they accused qatar of supporting terrorism in the region and made a series of demands to end the crisis qatar's leaders have always strongly denied the accusations let's bring in marwan bashar is al-jazeera senior political analyst and joins us live now from london model and so we have these 3 big meetings in 3 days in saudi arabia involving the oh i see the g.c.c. and the arab league what are they trying to achieve what we expect from it. well look there are and i mean they're out of world is living
2:01 am
a nightmare probably not seen in generations the continuing and even escalating war in libya and in yemen in syria the upheavals and the paralysis. in sudan and always your ear of the crisis the crisis in the god of the crisis the iran saudi crisis is just. quite problematic everywhere and on the agenda there is or there should be all these hot issues that the arab world is trying to tackle all of course in the addition to under development poverty inequality put it u.k. shouldn't poor health no access to this and that and other things so the arab world is living in a quite a nightmare and we have 3 summits that hopefully would be able to tackle any number of these important priorities for the for the for the for the arab citizen now
2:02 am
judging from past summits i would have guessed before the summit what's going to come up after the summit i hope this time around there will surprise us and maybe they will say something that we don't expect today on iran is likely to be front and center in many of those meetings is there a unified position on iran amongst arab leaders and if not will the achieve any consensus on iran do you think. yes i think everyone understands that saudi arabia called for the emergency gulf summit arab summit on the sidelines of the islamic summit because of the tension in the arab gulf because that tankers what attacked a few days ago and because of course the united states is changing its position every other day like it was a razor blade or something it's really difficult in terms of the rising polarization between the united states and iran when there's
2:03 am
a certain buildup towards war while leaders on both sides of the gulf are saying the do not want war and i think it leaves the arab world all the gulf states and set in the stomach state in a position maybe confused but definitely in a position where they need to take the initiative and state what exactly is their stance on the gulf crisis and do they want its commission or they do not want its collision and and if they don't what is it that they are prescribing for the attention that is rising of the growth or item on bashar al jazeera c.n.n. political analyst my one thank you now a gunfight between members of saddam's security forces left a pregnant woman dead and 7 others injured. it comes on the 2nd day of a nationwide strike people were out on the streets demonstrating when the shooting began testers are demanding the transitional national council transfer power to
2:04 am
a civilian lead or thought to leave them open joins us live now from khartoum heber so what led to the shooting incident and is it causing tensions within the military on the protesters. well there and have spoken to protesters who were at the scene when the shooting started and they're saying that they do not know what caused the hour break of violence between the military and one of the factions known as the rapid support forces but what they say is that as treatment bullets hits one of the women who are standing by and she was 6 months pregnant and died as a result of the gunshot wounds now they're saying that several other people have been injured as well of course tensions between the protesters and the rapid support fracture forces faction have been high over the past 2 weeks just 2 weeks ago protestors accuse the rapid support forces of opening fire at them killing at least 6 people and injuring more than $200.00 people now protesters are saying that with the rapid support forces and the military is trying to do they're trying to break in the sit in in front of the army headquarters which is now in its 2nd month going on to its 3rd to try to end the pressure that protestors have been putting on
2:05 am
the military council to hand over power to civilian rule now they're saying that they will continue with their protests but they are concerned that the violence will escalate especially with them being on strike for the 2nd day in a row. and what about this 2 day strike when is it likely to bring the military council back to the negotiating table. well that's what the opposition coalition is hoping to achieve by the 2 this saying that they want the military council to understand that civilians have the power at the moment and that if they do not hand over power to independent civilian transitional government then the protests will continue and they're likely to escalate so far we have yet to hear from the military council announcing that they will be going back to the negotiating table what we do know is that the opposition coalition will be giving a statement later to basically highlight the achievements they've achieved over the past 2 days but the military council is yet to come back to the negotiating table and meet with the leaders of the opposition what it is saying is that the protest movement is infiltrated by what it describes as people trying to destabilize the
2:06 am
country and they're saying that they want an inclusive talk in forming the transitional government and they're saying that they have played a role in the revolution and therefore they will decide who can represent sudan in the future transitional government so protesters are saying that they're not convinced that the military actually wants to give power and they're saying that if that doesn't happen then they will continue with their strike and escalated to civil disobedience to show that they are the ones in power and that they should be having a civilian transitional government over the coming years thank you. time for a short break here al-jazeera when we come back the coalitional clock is ticking for israel's binyamin netanyahu it will be an election rematch of iran's out of time and she's won the world's top ballet award now mexico's top downs a brings her country struggles center stage on that stay with us. had others to want to forecast showers for iran it's on the we might expect now to

charging president trump with a crime was not an option because of the department of justice guidelines. it explains that under longstanding department policy a president president cannot be charged with a federal crime while he is in office that is unconstitutional even if the charge is kept under seal and hidden from public view that too is prohibited. this special counsel's office is part of the department of justice and by regulation it was bound by that department policy charging the president with a crime was therefore not an option we could consider well after spoke to the media trumped tweeted nothing changes from the mother report there was insufficient evidence and therefore in our country a person is innocent the case is closed thank you. prime minister shake of the lebanon. he's expected to attend the security summit in saudi arabia on thursday

story thank you so much in life now. a crackdown on crime or an act of provocation. police have detained several people including 2 u.n. officials in it's so dominated no serbia is now deployed troops along the border so what's caused this new flare up between the 2 neighbors with a history of religious and ethnic tensions this is inside story.
2:22 am
hello everyone i'm come all santamaria welcome to inside story problems between serbia and kosovo they go back well 10 years to call suppose independence they go back to the war of the light 99 days they are people who go well beyond that as well so when tensions flare up again as they are right now there is some cause for concern on tuesday serbia put its troops on full alert after the course of the police and to the serb dominated area of northern costs of fired tear gas and according to some reports live ammunition and arrested $23.00 people because of a call that an operation against organized crime and corruption the arrests even included 2 members of the u.n. mission in costs of sobeys president alexander which says he wants to preserve peace and stability but that serbia quote will be fully ready to protect our people at the shortest notice before we move on just
2:23 am
a quick reminder of how these countries came into being and why there is still this tension here's the map kosovo an autonomous region in the former yugoslavia. until its break up in the 1990 s. following that separatist pressure from kosovo only increased its course led to serbia's crackdown on kosovo's albanian population that was only ended by a nato military intervention in 1909 kosovo declared its independence in 2008 it has since been recognized by more than 100 countries but crucially serbia and russia still see it as part of serbia these latest incidents signal rising tensions in northern cause of a parts of which remain largely outside the control of the government. and instead pledge their allegiance to belgrade. so here's natasha but in our reporting from mithridates there were kosovan serbs protested against tuesday's police raids in the area where we are in north maître pete said this is a predominantly certain it's a policy in the northern coast of a people here don't feel they're not going to push to you know they feel very close

to belgrade in serbia and they've come here to protest because they say that they are being intimidated by crossman authorities now this is because on tuesday the cost of and police launched a major operation they say was across the country but particularly in this region against smuggling of all sorts of goods such as petrol and cigarettes they made several arrests among them some so and so the police officers who were later appear in court in pristina now serbian people here say this is just an opportunity to try and fight in them to try and intimidate them the president of serbia has put troops on the border on full alert he says this is for peace and security but also that they will be able to respond if needed the president of course imposes that this is simple law enforcement the whole situation is also being filled by russia calling this a provocation as well because of course russia is an ally great an ally of serbia

serbia and russia who do not recognize cos when it's bad. or right here's the panel for today to discuss things with starting in belgrade with young mitchell former politician now head of the forum for ethnic relations in london it's vet taken mesko associate director of the consultancy group control risks with a focus on central and south eastern europe and finally in berlin is both a very senior associate of the democratization policy council and a specialist on casa vote serbia relations i thank all of you for joining us today i want to start and i'm asking a lot here i know but i want us to look at this. latest incident in isolation outside of the history between the 2 countries i know there is so much history but still let's look at this incident start with you to. kosovo has said it is about corruption it is about organized crime it is about smuggling it is about drugs are
2:26 am
those actually real concerns in this part of the world eroding. the support really 2 narratives about one things you have immediately to interpretation no doubt that the from course your point of view and the point to your international presence your course on the told one of the actions even of the larger activities fighting is the organised crime specially in the whole territory including the north of course or the motives for that are of course weasely better is a shoot for course show and also to show who is controlling territory basically the question which arises in the last one year is who is who has this rule where any killed the lord or so from point to yourselves and serbia did so only fight for the control of territory people are doubting that the really course who will want to.
2:27 am
fight against the organised crime including indiscretion richard they're really defrocked or they are arresting the people who are the part of organised crime for cause for the south and serbia is the most important issue is the status of kosovo and the territorial integrity or sarah bia meaning control of the north of course or one or be clear the human needs and the human being not on the 1st level of the politic she said to be an impish there and we're going to come back to that issue of territory a lot more i know so that they can ask you let me bring you into the conversation from london your thoughts on what the actual course of own police are supposedly cracking down against an. drugs is one problem i know previously that was i think it was in the year 2000 something like 40 percent of the heroin in europe and north america came from kosovo so they have been problems with things like drugs and smuggling in the past is it still enough of a problem now thank you kamal without that out organized crime is
2:28 am
a major issue in the region especially as you mention in kosovo serbia and the border regions which are not always well patrolled we see semi porous borders so organized crime is or is supposed to be one of the key priorities for governments to tackle in the region so with that in mind and looking again as you said in isolation this incident this event there is no reason to doubt the motives of the course of our government that they were looking to tackle organized crime networks in their country that it followed similar operations elsewhere in the country earlier on this month also adds to the evidence that they were looking to to dismantle a big organized crime network now having said that. there are issues
2:29 am
about how the whole operation was conducted as you mentioned already here there are concerns among the local population about the use of excessive force that was their gas use their obligations about firearms being used so all of these issues put some question marks as to how the whole operation was conducted and what other messages were being signaled there yesterday when the special forces members went to north costs and but. let me let me just going to be all agree that organized crime. ok organized crime is an issue so bowled over by let me ask you that. as raise the point that there is a problem there it does need to be dealt with but the way that the course of the government and police went about it is it seems to be extremely heavy handed and certainly that's what the serbs would say. come out i would cremate with my
2:30 am
previous answer there is a serious problem with the weakness of the rule of law and with high level organized crime and corruption in the whole of a region is specially about not only in serbia and kosovo and given that fact you know the fact that the judiciary and the police are not in the pan and these 2 countries. any action against organized crime is always part of a kind of selective justice you know so this on the general crowd always in the raises. suspicion about the very action as much as normally inaction on organized crime corruption now we have the very specific case of north of course over basically the unresolved status this view the bigger its actions are best actions for 30 years insisting that cause civil war is part of serbia has drawn the region more and more away from serbia and left the region and especially
2:31 am
in the north in the limbo where you have a specific because of their status this view with the rhetoric of there that they are part of serbia or of the reality being summer and that's why that's so varied has been created a very extreme specific next of organized crime and a political patronage system so whenever you know pristina is acting in that context which also has a link between opinion and cause or survive and serbian one it raises suspicion any especially in the way this is i think the 2nd or the 3rd of such action which really looks like a film plot over the last 12 months which is not legally you know linked with the overall very. high level negotiations on the final comprehensive agreement between the last one survey that and for to have gone in a completely wrong direction and raised tensions among the 2 countries and again we've. comeback to battle sure little bit later on and issues to do with the e.u.
2:32 am
ascension what do we make though and maybe i'll come back to you. in belgrade what do you make of the way the serbians have reacted here president bush has put his troops on high alert and that sounds dramatic and i'm sure it looks dramatic as well do you think he would actually act or is there actually too much at stake here for both countries i mean just added one point on what was previous sale don't forget that in our case serbia of course or do organise crimes players politicians and guerilla fighters are on the power they are really closely and strongly connected meaning the ordeal. leaders of the organised crime groups they are some kind of the instruments in the political games when sarah b. and not the data controller what is the situation reality sometime is using the

provoking the local army then other conflicts course if you listen. seriously listen in his speech in the parliament he said that there are basically for him to option one is the dialogue with some compensation in territory of normalization for plus territory compensation or the long term 5 for 10 years crisis i mean that now we are on the crossroad. to go in the deep deep beneath these kings do localized. rights all too good to die oh we've seen parties what will happen well when you talk about dialogue and addresses to all of you and then we'll get separate answers but there has been dialogue there had been a you brokered talks which were going on if i'm not mistaken serbia walked away
2:35 am
from them in november and again it came down to the issue of territory as you've all talked about and then there's the fact that both want to ascend to the e.u. at some stage i go back to my point that there is a lot at stake here and maybe i'll ask you about this. the amount that is at stake which might actually hold them back from that crossroads which dish on just described and take them down the path of talking rather than the path of fighting absolutely and i agree with you there kamal i think this time around there is much more at stake from both sides and i do not expect to see that the violence in kosovo or cross the border will escalate as a result both countries both governments have as their priority to improve relations with the european union for a very long time that's a key foreign policy priority for both states so taking acts that are going to jeopardize this goal it's not going to be helpful either domestically for their
2:36 am
voters or externally with the european union so i think this should prove sufficient to persuade them to can weigh in on the underside of renewing the talks which have been stalled since november but finding a compromise and walking away from flexing muscles and showing strength and for such as you know just statements for army being on full alert or on the course of our side we're seeing imposition of tire if and other measures which. antagonize serbia and they had to walk away from them from the talks but of ever is that enough in your opinion to keep them from going down a path that no one wants them to go down i know we talk a lot about the history between the 2 countries and what could set off again but from what i've heard from all 3 of you this is more about it a current issue now about territory rather than the historical conflict. well i
2:37 am
would say no this is not even about territory this is about the west and the you trying to be having started to be a serious actor in one part of the horror of southeastern part of europe in 201213 you know starting to so-called political dialogue through some leadership by the german chancellor a great great in and the u.s. bringing an end to the status is beyond and they went to to almost a historical right turn you know by a linking serbia us perish in with the. demanding from them to recognize the reality that belgrade knows for a very long time that they have lost cause of all and you know moving towards recognizing that reality which has taken place in 2013 with the so-called april agreement and on focusing you know on on organizing and safeguarding normal life for kosovo or serbs integrating them into kosovo state which including in the north has started in 2013 unfortunately what we have seen over the last 2 years in the so-called final stage or a new stage of the dialogue final negotiations on
2:38 am
a final comprehensive agreement on comprehensive and overall normalization of relations is an unholy alliance and within the context of the crisis of the un the west since 2016 we have seen the serbian president trying to you know explore that to get some gains and to depart from the original agreement trying to get some territory out of course of all cause or president thought she has has reigned into that position of land swap because he has basic privatized the whole dialogue in cost of oil and l.a. and they did the whole rest of the political lead for you know xscape in from some war crimes indictment and we have seen the unfortunately they are the high representative of the you dropping the basic principles of the us and western policy in the balkans that is never go into ethno territory and station because this was the start of the balkan wars. forth for some you know reasons of getting
2:39 am
any deal done before the end of her mandate unfortunate supported by the washington work by washington mr bolton and the trump administration from their position of you know any deal is a good deal that has raised enormous tension in the region there's a term of lands for passage of all you know with the berlin summit in april 2000 in april this year april 29th and it seems like you know that certain provocations we saw you know like yes that they could you know be you have to do something with organized crime but they could also easily be an attempt you know of the 2 a president and burger in pristina that have hit a wall with their policy of 2 years to to create facts on the ground there is something we have seen last year with similar arrests so this is always you know. an area where we have to guess you know whether this is really about fighting organized crime or whether this is really about provoking a crisis so both has done
2:40 am
a great job there of widening things out for us talking about washington talking about the e.u. talking about the west dish on can i add russia into it as well a big international player these days a supporter of serbia is it watching this closely do we need to watch russia closely in this story. surely it's for my point to really experience they are now witnessing a good a new stage of course or crisis is basically an unfinished war or unfinished up from 1000 all time russia was involved in some ways during the night and until the put in russia. with the west. and i have been to in some way too many dream the war scene bosnia kosovo now is the completely different situation 1st of all we knew we could not hear the one voice from washington but arsenal called west including nato we have a lot of voices
2:41 am
a lot to interest the russia using that situation threatening is proper presidency and influence for so long through politics civil society true communication with the religious. groups plus which is most important energy security the russian is the one of the main supplier with the gas or serbia and or 3 d. owner of the biggest energy companies serbia the influential russia. in culture and politics are really strong but is not one sided russia has also the influence will show strong on the albanian side sometimes directly from will be near sometimes we are on carla. and 3rd again but going back to the today situation we could see something what we recognize is the influence of russia in methodology of managing conflicts the rush him so-called russia
2:42 am
but is one of the houses must 6 of our products is producing get it conflicts and management with that but the territorial lies that the conflict if you're looking what is the main dispute between the west and russia does the nato widespread in all of the nato all over the europe and i'm sure that russia using this crisis for stopping right spreading on the nato over serbia macedonia or so on and bosnia. maybe the fight for montenegro is over but using the crisis from the north you are destabilizing montenegro meaning the need to it's really high level playing in the same time our show has some political strategic interests to negotiate with the process in the washing talk

about how to kareena in georgia and the west a more calm and serbia one a really house a functioning cart in the hand of russia and more school in that negotiation so you mentioned earlier that you didn't think things were going to escalate further. but at the crux of it all is some sort of reproach on some sort of agreements between kosovo. how likely is that actually when there is so much animosity between the 2 over territory and over so many issues and one thing i can say is that there's a definitely a momentum in the region now to address a longstanding disputes and here i'd like to mention how greece and macedonia resolve their earlier this year last year their dispute over the name of the country north and now so there is some pressure on both sides to find some compromise an agreement a mutual agreement and solve this a longstanding problem between the 2 countries which should look in problems with
2:44 am
integration into the e.u. or if the government's desire so nato which in serbia case i think it's unlikely but the cost of them might want to do so. as long as there is mutual agreement and as long as there is either ship within both countries and both governments i think some are up for solution is possible and is definitely desirable now having said that there will be spoilers on both sides domestically there may be external actors russia or other regional powers who will not necessarily welcome a resolution of a problem of this nature but it is their fickle to forecast exactly when their idea of the circumstances will rise to see this solution but no i don't i mean you seconds left and i get a final divulge information if you don't mind just on the idea of this as we say normalization of relations come out this is

a lot of centuries old grievances or strong russia this is about a week with we have seen over the last 12 months in this push for land for for alliance between the presidents of serbia and kosovo this has nothing to do with grievances this has to do. with the fact that some of the actors in the west based on the current cares within the west both within the e.u. and the us would have to part from the original framers of the dialogue that have shown it to be excess while it started with declaring the status dispute closed course or the be an independent state and basically signing up that is so this reopening of the status issue has more to do with the way it's done with belgrade and prishtina saw or what i think we have now is a number he hoped for hopefully the berlin summit by mr mccraw for the mccraw and prime minister medical end of april was the beginning of a complete reset of the log return of the dialogue to its original framers and that
2:46 am
will ultimately lead to some formal recognition of what the belgrade knows is there the independent kosovo in return for new members your perspective and the integration of course will serve with full corrective rights and only on that basis you know come out and there be a basis for a real fight against organized crime and corruption and to but this has to start with this mentally in the nexus between organized crime the serbian list which is the one party system in the north. and pristina part of ever in berlin along with vatican iska and london and dish and janet in belgrade thank you so much for joining us for inside story and thank you for watching as well to get online to on to 0 dot com you can see this program again any time or any of our other episodes there i can get social to facebook dot com forward slash a.j. inside story we're on twitter at a.j. inside story and i'm at a.j. if you want to tweet me directly so thanks so much for joining us for inside story so you can see.

releasing his report on the russian meddling in the election of donald trump the u.s. special counsel says charging the president with a crime was not an option because of the department of justice guidelines it was inappropriate for him to testify before congress must report on the evidence of conspiracy between the trump campaign and russia but democrats though continue to demand the release of an uncensored version of mahler's report where we live in washington d.c. where a white house correspondent kimberly hulk is standing by but 1st let's go to roslyn jordan. has now walked off into the sunset office saying that charging a sitting president was never an option legally so what will they have to say was. well essentially tara now what robert mueller said was that he had to investigate everything that went to the question of whether russian officials or agents were interfering in the 2016 presidential election and that did include the question of whether persons working for donald trump's presidential campaign had contacts were
2:51 am
open to this interference were encouraging this interference and he did note in his 446 page report that there were a least 10 instances where there were questions. about dahl trumps own behavior during that period of the investigation which took about 2 years but as you noted the thoughtful counsel said that because of existing department of justice regulations it would be unconstitutional for him to try to bring charges against a sitting president here's what else robert mueller had to say on thursday if we had caught confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime we would have said so we did not however make a determination as to whether the president did commit a crime the introduction to the volume 2 of our report explains that decision it explains that under longstanding department policy
2:52 am
a president president cannot be charged with a federal crime while he is in office that is unconstitutional even if the charge is kept under seal and hidden from public view that too is prohibited the special counsel's office is part of the department of justice and by regulation it was bound by that department policy charging the president with a crime was therefore not an option we could consider. so what happens now with the democrats and the coals for impeachment how is that likely to play out. well certainly there are already calls from members of the house democratic leadership suggesting that investigations need to be opened in one specific case david a representative from rhode island is saying that impeachment investigations should be opened to determine whether articles of impeachment should be brought against
2:53 am
the president of course this is a very that's getting several steps ahead in the process you can't bring these charges unless you actually have the evidence so that is what they are looking at now certainly the head of the judiciary committee congressman jerry now said that no one even the president of the united states is above the law so there is a growing sense at least among house democrats and at least among one republican that more needs to be done now that robert mueller is stepping aside closing the office and returning to private life rose thank you. well the white house press secretary sarah song has just been speaking to the media let's listen to what she had to say. and certainly the process would be for congress but that's not necessary because it's already been done they spent 2 years they interviewed $500.00 people they looked at over a 1000000 pages of documents over 50 subpoenas and made the determination there was
2:54 am
no collusion again and that's the entire reason for the special counsel they've concluded it just because democrats don't like the results of the 2016 election or the report it doesn't mean they get a do over it's sad that they have no message that they have no agenda and the hawk or c. of the process that they're doing to what they're going through and what they're going to do to the country that doesn't hurt the president it hurts the american people and that's unfair and they should be ashamed as an. artist get more action from the white house and cross over to kimberly how it can be so interesting to sarah saunders the but as a nothing more come from president trump in the white house which will. yeah that was sarah fender speaking there on the north lawn of the white house essentially in front of the west wing i was a part of the press corps that was standing there where sarah sanders the sensually made the case on behalf of the president sort of doubling down on a tweet that he sent earlier were essentially he made the case that there is nothing new to think changes as a result of the report there was insufficient evidence and therefore in our country
2:55 am
a person is innocent the case is closed thank you so reporters really pressed on that to try and kind of understand how the white house is determining that the president has been exonerated given the fact that well the moeller report did conclude that there was no conspiracy between donald trump's president dental campaign and russia in the 2016 presidential elections it did not exonerate him whether or not there was obstruction of justice souter's answered that saying that if there had been a cry there would be a moral obligation to prosecute by the attorney general and the attorney general chose not to do that but it's. clear that many of the reporters saying their questions seem to be suggesting that there is more to come despite the assertions by the white house that it will come in the form of oversight by the committees particularly in the house of representatives did you dish or any committee this is something the fairest setters pushed back on saying that this is
2:56 am
a you heard of her clip there just an attempt to read litigate the 2016 u.s. election and will come at the expense of ordinary americans and some of the things that she says the president wants to work on like infrastructure new trade deals even combating concerns about china and north korea are to come and help at the outside the white house kimberly thank you jerry not to the chairman of the house judiciary committee is just addressing the media lets us do what he has to say make no mistake no one not even the president of the united states is above the law. thank you. and if boehner said in that. report says all the. subpoenaed him to testify in front of we do specter impeachment question at this point all options are on the table and nothing should be ruled out with special counsel mother said laddie unclear today for the american people is that president trump is lying when he says no collusion no obstruction and that he
2:57 am
was exonerated if mother wanted to exonerate the president from having committed the crime he would have said so instead and he says he would have said instead the special counsel makes clear that obstruction of justice which he found substantial evidence of is a serious crime to strikes at the core of our justice system and that the constitution points to congress to take action to hold the president accountable that's exactly what we will do the president's response to repeatedly lie to the american people and ignore all congressional subpoenas is a morrow and i'm lawful no one is above the law and we will hold the president accountable. congressman with regards to impeachment we move forward to the time he said it's on the table what exactly does that. we are following through in our investigation we will continue to do so and will make decisions as as they seem indicated what might lead to
2:58 am
a question mark to testify that. mr mother. told us. a lot of what we need to hear today it's very important to be clear on what he told us and what the special prosecutor told the american people it reaffirmed what was in the investigation which was in the report about the investigation which found substantial evidence that russia attack a political system that the trump campaign benefited from russia's interference that trump and those around him repeatedly welcomed russia's support and that throughout the investigation trying to obstruct justice and undermine mahler and the investigation over and over again the president the investor sorry the special counsel did not exonerate the president for having a committed a crime d.o.j. policy prevented mulla from bringing criminal charges against the president so the president is lying about the special counsel's findings lying in saying that the
2:59 am
special counsel found no obstruction in the conclusion and i should add the attorney general is lying about that too that is serious and we will take action to hold the president accountable for his misconduct again i repeat no one not even the president is above the law thank you very much and i do not think all right so live pictures there from washington d.c. jerry nadler who's the chairman of the house judiciary committee there responding to the miller port let's go back now to kimberly hellcat who's outside the white house there in washington d.c. for us can be so one of the options open now to gerri not on the house judiciary committee what happens next. well it's difficult definitely a challenge for him now because essentially what he has on the one hand is what he believes it is a constitutional obligation that mandates congress to conduct oversight and a check and balance of you will out of this white house so he says he will press on but he's got the challenge that the special counsel who authored this report who
3:00 am
spent the last 2 years heading up the investigation into whether or not there was not only collusion but obstruction of justice by this president he has said very clearly my report speaks for itself i'm not testifying and that was certainly something that was being negotiated with members of the house of representatives that the special counsel was saying he would testify privately but not publicly so there's that challenge but there's also the challenge that this white house continues to ignore subpoenas for financial records documents the strategy appears to be to try and run out the clock whether or not that is going to continue to work is certainly something that will unfold in the days and weeks to come but what is clear right now that this is once again become a partisan dividing issue for americans depending on where you sit on the political spectrum if you're a conservative or if you're liberal is how you are the lens that you're using to view this and just to sort of give an underscore an example of that that's the counter point to what we were just here.
