the palestinian authority also give the developers exclusive frights for the discovery exhibition and marketing of the oil and gas in the gaza offshore area. what the 3 got further going to oversee was another clause. which said that the palestinians were obliged to inform israel of any oil and gas exploration and production in the palestinian territories. this contract was never submitted to the palestinian legislative council or published in local newspapers. but yasser arafat signed the contract. as did my head of mussy then minister of economy and iterate and how to be some sort of the new chairman of the palestinian petroleum authority. i don't.

owed a lot of money i think they still do. for delivery of electricity n b what we will do is we should be able to substation near the border of gaza and against the gas will supply electricity. there be a agree to the israeli attempts even though they didn't favor the palestinians after all the gaza was in their waters but sharon rejected the deal because the palestinians he claimed might use that even you to support what he called terrorism . the british guys realize the deal with the israelis would not be easy. in 2003 a british guys announced that israel was love the only player of the table and that it was also talking to egypt about the transporting gaza from gaza through its

would not allow palestinians to access their resources until the palestinians can guarantee that they would sell gas to israel at about a 3rd of the price of the gas on the international markets so they were essentially seeking or trying to force the passing years to pay about $2.00 per and maybe to you and i rather than $65.00 to $7.00 which is where was the price of gas at the time and for b.g. which is a private company that wouldn't have been profitable so essentially there was no commercial. viability for the project anymore because of the restrictions that israel put on. with a change of government in egypt in 22 of its borders with gaza would open this enabled how must reform its 2nd government and revisit the gaza guys project. these pictures which are made public for the 1st time. in 22 by

based in amsterdam published a report about the activities of noble in energy called beneath the troubled waters . noble in the regime is based in houston texas and is extensively involved in the development and exploration of israeli licensed off shore gas fields in the eastern mediterranean very port is extremely detailed but one of its conclusions is that the company has potentially contributed to a violation of the collective right of self-determination of palestinian actual gas was indeed drained from the board of field due to gas extraction from the noah field it could be argued that noble energy participated in an act of pillage in violation of international humanitarian and criminal law which could also incur criminal liability. or ask nobody in the regime to respond to these

allegations. very blight seeing their video petitions comply with their own code of conduct and the laws of the united states and the governments where they operate. we are confident we have not extracted gas from outside our israel easy license areas or had an adverse impact on the ability of others to develop their resources . what kind of report to you and i can give you any report you all very well and. you know why by the way. nope you're looking at the geological lier. now let's assume here is the geological layer ok full with gas now i pump here this is my territory and the palestinians are here now when i pump here of course the layer begins to dissolve now gas begins to move from this

side to that side because if i pump here then this side is getting deployed do i pump. palestinian gas or the gas good question depends who we are asking depends what kind of answer you want. if you're a palestinians of course it's another part of the of the occupation of the terrible things in the horrible atrocities we committed against them if you're an israeli of cause you don't peoples geological layers do not know borders borders do not exist in geological layers i mean you play you play geologic you play geology and geology is you know they don't know borders. this map was a drawn by jim sister and the department of international affairs at the trinity washington university in the us it shows the authority of the waters of the coast

of gaza and israel. since 1909 the palestinians have only been allowed to explore the small green area area. istook or argues that the international maritime you know gives the palestinians that i took the border they're much bigger area and that. this potentially contains further gas fields which would be of huge benefit to the palestinians if they were allowed to exploit them. the mary b. field is an example of why it is important for the palestinians to take steps to declare an exclusive economic zone it isn't that could possibly allow it within the palestinian exclusive economic zone. however because the palestinians did not make a claim to it israel was able to start production and essentially deplete the field if the palestinians do not take steps to claim an easy it's possible that other
9:38 pm
areas of enormous economic value could be in essence claimed by israel. and once the resources are gone they're not coming back. coming from so many of the. powers that be to maintain and one could leave them on at the now as well i mean you know. if you're. even going to. speed to campaign i mean you do a lot of support for us then you have to have to shovel for the thing if you had a bit of a levy is there will be 2nd coming. and so i mean you have to put in vessel for this we needed to be a shuttle for the really think about was that had been going on but what it had done became you could get a shuttle full of any well you models and probably have a ship with. a shovel for the fleet difficulty of. living is a large natural gas field in the military of the coast of israel due to come online
9:39 pm
later in $29000.00 and what would have been an extraordinary deep in the $24000.00 that palestinian authority announced a plan to buy gas from. so back in 20152014 before the p.a. had agreed to buy gas israeli gas from leviathan which was an interesting prospect given the gas that was already in gaza marine and the deal was eventually called off under i think i believe under pressure from from the b.d.s. movement who were quite upset that the palestinians would buy israeli gas when they had their own gas just sitting off the coast. i think it was something that the p.a. decided decided against because politically it just wasn't palatable and it put them in a bad light and other the jordanians did end up buying gas from the riot and so and
9:40 pm
why did why did it happen i think public say that he was under pressure from the israelis to buy at what it was it called after b.d.s. movement pushed against it. i think the issue is very sensitive. for the palestinians to discuss. i think it's. in the hands of. of. and he's the head of the palestinian investment fund so none of the. politicians always of the professionals in palestine are willing to discuss the issue it is a sensitive issue in this respect. in february 26th the real dutch shell the british gas and so technically became the new developer of the 2 gaza marine gas fields. but in marshy 2018 announced it was giving up its stake in the undeveloped gas field of gaza.
9:41 pm
i tried to get an interview with someone from to ask why they had pulled out from the gaza marine deal. but chill declined my request. so what next for the guys feel distant needed to contain a 28000000000 cubic meters that's the total consumption of frisbee in for an entire here. so it's my understanding that shell had a 55 percent stake in gaza marine so now the palestinians are left trying to find a company to pick up this 55 percent of the guys in marine park. is a kind of like us to what i did you know when i would not. be admitted. what

9:44 pm
. that if between fatah and hamas shows no sign of being resolved. as for israeli palestinian politics the picture is no brighter. in average 2019 a coalition led by binyamin netanyahu the right wing likud party won the israeli parliament 3 elections this is not good news for the palestinians. have a better life nor is the u. a smoother east advisers their approach to the region or based on what we have seen so far. it's hard to see how the dormant in the resource in the east room with the theory and can't benefit the palestinians in the near future anymore than it has in the past 20 years.

massacre when the main pro-democracy sits in was forcibly dispersed but a sudanese doctors group puts the toll in the past week at 117. videos like these continue to emerge showing that while the military gentle talks about dialogue its personnel are trying to beat the people into submission but we know what. we hope that our brothers in the other groups respond to our colfer dialogue without preconditions what's at stake is the nation we value the efforts of our friends who are concerned about developments in sudan we want to reach an agreement but if we don't then we will form a government. despite an attempt by the if european prime minister to mediate between the gents' and pro-democracy groups being received well by both sides security forces arrested several of the group's leaders within hours of the if european pm departing called dome the man believed to be calling the shots in the military council is its vice presidents mohamad hum done committee the former

warlord in his notorious jungle weed forces have been accused of committing war crimes during the darfur conflict that doesn't bode well for sudan's pro-democracy protesters added to that's the military's leadership has held several meetings with saudi crown prince mohammed bin salomon and mahratti de facto leader mohammed bin zayed and egypt's kuti their turn presidents are different the all of whom have been accused by human rights groups of cracking down on free speech. the main groups behind sudan's revolution have insisted they will remain peaceful and not to give up their demands for freedom despite their dream to violence general strikes like sunday's are an example of peaceful resistance but in a country with a history of conflict in a region where revolutions have turned into civil wars there is genuine concern for sudan's future. or just iraq well that desire of the president of sudan

doctors union the u.k. and spokeswoman for the sudanese professionals association joins me now from norwich via skype in the u.k. good to have you with us miscible julie we just begin with the fact that sort of it's difficult to be specific as you just sort of don't want to jeopardize your contacts on the ground but how well observed all successful has this day of sort of civil disobedience been and what areas seem to have been most affected. information that you are getting as you said there's a lot of obstruction because of that and the security austerity measures but it's very different sectors and despite all of the effort yesterday. and about threatening a lot of the professionals how of the ground realities affected the work of medical professionals and also for the public who are trying to gain access to the facilities jury in this day of civil disobedience should they need medical care. we
9:54 pm
are very concerned it's not about about the civil disobedience at all this has been going since the 3rd of june that there has been abstraction for medical care 1st of all for those who are injured in this it and the clinics were set around it invaded it abused the doctors were abused as well and assaulted and taint the same happened in other hospitals in the last few days about the invasion and assault of the doctors the fact that if people are not dying by life bullets they are dying because they cause excess health services the journey from home to the hospital is that you can't be detained you can't be killed the doctors themselves it's not safe for them to work in the hospital you don't reach the hospital the other thing is even if you need your medication to leave your house and go to the community
9:55 pm
pharmacy can be a challenge and therefore there has been an absolute you know we have been since the 3rd of june calling all of the human rights organization and other n.g.o.s to support that the medical care the human rights and that should be delivered to the people of sudan and of course the that's a very serious situation and so the one of great concern for certainly those under trying to understand the situation on the ground i mean where does the doctor's association for example stand when it comes to this proposal of talks from the military we hear that they want to talk and yet you're telling us that the ground reality is that even if you raise your head above the parapet you could get shot at . does your military council is held responsible for the massacre on the 30th of may and what happened under so they failed to protect the people of saddam the vice president of this council is only there the
9:56 pm
early show they don't go eat that there is a group and they are linking this where to the national intelligence services to try and change activists at the moment. the council has to respond by swift and small. part of the show this video government of the legitimate request of the people of sudan so this is what we have asked for. a year the e.u. all of the policy makers that it's time to hand over no more but that's all very well in terms of a demand but at the end these stages these scenarios take small steps and we've seen everything going backwards in the last few weeks what is it going to take for you to actually or for your groups to come to the table come to talk what do the
9:57 pm
military have to do. you want to say for them to gain your trust. i think today has proved that transitional knows your current so let's not have any mandate it's very clear that it spawns from the people of sudan so actually we don't have to compromise anything at all what is have to have to happen that this has to be mediated and monitored because we have been trying to get this achieved since the 11th of april and they have been trying their best for you. that is false and therefore they cannot be trusted so at the moment as i said as with most well. so forth it sort of served by the home ok miscible julie just briefly you just talked about a conversation that is monitored and observed by all sides yet we've had these european prime minister come into sudan to try and mediate and monitor he said he
9:58 pm
just left the country and then we've seen opposition leaders arrested it seems that the military themselves are not allowing that mediation to move forward yet they they have saying it publicly but not sort of doing it to in terms of the rock the actions. that's just add to our sort of insistence that people at the moment are very clear that there is no need to discuss anything it's what we need this creating the declaration of freedom and change and you and the e.u. and the toy and all of the other policy makers have to make sure that this is implemented the people of sudan have led a very civilized peaceful resistance and their financial mysie council the joint joey the national intelligence service says are dragging us towards violence
9:59 pm
and towards mass killing because therefore the will have to stop that as soon as possible most of the what certainly does happen in the coming hours of the moment a sign of the geneva in origin eastern england thanks so much for joining us thank you. on to the day's other news now protesters and police affording kazakhstan's capital during elections to replace the only president the country has haven't known demonstrators in nor soltani are calling for a boycott saying the vote is far from sad voters are choosing a successor to new assault on this a virus who led the country since kazakhstan declared independence from the soviet union in 1991 and he stepped down in march. doc i have is the interim leader backed by nasa via phone he's expected to win robin foresty war cosmos in the capital. these are completely extraordinary things because there are hundreds of protesters
10:00 pm
clashing with police in the capital city on election day people are being see they've been put into buses and those buses and it's in me but the protesters are pushing back against the buildings moving now involved you know how to get more toward what you want to try to stop these police from leaving. put those buses on and it looks like at the moment the crowd is stronger than the police i've been speaking to some of them they say they're just. exercising their democratic rights that others have told me that they are supporters of a man who. lives in exile and leads a political party that has been outlawed in this country and prescribed as an extremist organization. now at least half a 1000000 people in hong kong and hit the streets to protest against a controversial extradition bill they fear the proposed changes would allow.
