farkas is painting an ode to the city he loves and he's chosen a big canvas it's 14 stories tall and $55000.00 square metres large towering over a parking lot right in the heart of los angeles this week. speaks about the history of los angeles its people the diversity and also kind of bridging the gap between the history of l.a. to where we are now as a people and honestly where we're going a few months from now the mural title. angelus will cover the entire wall of this apartment building the building's owner is paying for the project vargas says when he's finished undulates will be the world's largest mural ever painted by a single individual at its center is a depiction of a tongue vonne native american child representing the people who lived here for millennia before the land was ruled by spain then mexico and now the united states
6:43 am
at the top 3 angels fly triumphantly wings outspread vargas coaxed people from the bustling area surround the mural to model for one of the angels depicted is actually a homeless woman that is a frequent to this corner and i approached her and asked her if she would model for me and here's a woman who doesn't. doesn't have much hope and now she has painted up there immortalized as kind of this beacon for hope there will be many more images in the finished work fargus uses no grids no outline sketched on the wall everything is done by hand and by the artists on i and this is what i'm born to do i'm so focused and i'm so much in the zone when i'm working that nothing else exists outside of of where i'm at it's not easy work vargas has an assistant to

6:45 am
has been allowed to leave iranian waters has often been given a warning that has been some 5 reaction from the british government with the foreign secretary jeremy hunt speaking out now he was saying that that would be a u.k. response it would be robust but it would also be considered he said that teheran would be the biggest loser if freedom of navigation is restricted obviously there are concerns about the safety of oil tankers that apos in through this very delicate region the strait of hormuz jeremy hunt has said that he has also spoken to the u.s. secretary of state might pompei o and that he will also have a discussion with. the iranian foreign minister but very significantly and of course no surprise either one to said that they are military options are absolutely not on the table that is not what's being considered here and that the best way to resolve the situation is through diplomatic means we're

crew and that it was heading north towards iran an iranian news agency says the 2nd vessel the meds dar has now been allowed to leave iranian waters off to being given a warning the u.k.'s foreign secretary has described the seizures is unacceptable we. respond in a way that is considered robust. ups. the situation is not so. serious culch. this comes on the same day that a court granted gibraltar the right to detain an iranian oil tanker for another 30 days authorities in the british territory seized the grace one vessel earlier this month accusing iran of trying to smuggle oil into syria in breach of international sanctions iran denies the allegations and some into iran threaten to seize british ships in retaliation and iranian state t.v. has a footage it says was filmed by a drone the u.s. claims to have destroyed the revolutionary guard says the video proves the aircraft
6:51 am
returned to its base well that contradicts u.s. president donald trump's claim on thursday that a u.s. warship shot down the drone in the strait of hormuz trump said the action was defensive because the drone came within 100 meters of the vessel and ignored calls to stand down. well we have correspondents in tehran and washington monitoring developments on this story 1st to teheran and dosage of bari and significant that the seizure of this british really came on the same day that you had the extension of an iranian tank had already been detained in british territory what are you hearing about developments in the strait of hormuz today. well merriam the revolutionary guard has released a statement saying that they have seized this british vessel because of a number of issues that came up in the strait of hormuz according to local officials in hormuz gone province that is south of the country this vessel
6:52 am
apparently hit a small fishing boat that's when they gave this vessel a number of warnings and then there was no response there were 3 violations according to the statement released by the revolutionary guards the 1st being that this british tanker was traveling in the wrong maritime direction the 2nd that it had turned off all its navigational and tracking systems and 3rd that it was not responding to any of the calls or warnings that was being sent out by the revolutionary guards in that area that is why they say they seized it and $23.00 crew members on board and it is now in the port city of bam there are a bus where the revolutionary guards say they will continue their investigation and release more information in the days ahead meanwhile contradictory reports from the u.s. and iran on the fate of a drone that the iranians allegedly lost to the united states essentially targeting this drone now one of this footage that iran has added on
6:53 am
state television. this footage was released by the revolutionary guards aerospace the vision earlier today and they say it shows that this drone did well. it was supposed to do with that the have these reconnaissance missions when the foreign ships come into the strait of hormuz the revolutionary guard sends out these drones to carry out a mission to see and assist if there's any issues in these vessels this took place on thursday morning in the strait of hormuz when the u.s.s. vessel came into that area the revolutionary guard say that this drone for 3 hours was monitoring this ship and there was no at no point was there any issue or warnings between the drone and this u.s. vessel the drone managed to get quite close to the u.s. vessel we see footage of what was actually on the ship the iranians have said that
6:54 am
this is a very regular routine mission for these drones that that is what they're doing in that area it's what they were supposed to do really to secure the strait of hormuz and they're in this drone which the u.s. claims that it has shot down their revolutionary guard to saying it returned to base having completed its mission and there was never any issue about any threats or anything like that so the iranians have said that this claim by the u.s. government and u.s. president donald trump that they shot down one of their drones is absolutely not true thank you very much still such a bari in teheran. us president total trump has said that he will reach out to the u.k. to discuss the situation will evolve to the u.k. we have no written the agreement but we haven't agreed with that but a very great ally of ours so we're at about it we're at it was one we heard it was to. do a we'll be working with the u.k. though i have a new driver their sisters are which is
6:55 am
a good thing and will be work good with the u.k. but we have no written agreement but i think we have an agreement which is longstanding. rosen jordan joins us live in washington for more on this and we see roselyn the strait of hormuz increasingly becoming this pressure point for tensions between iran and the u.s. and the u.k. how might the seizure of these british tankers impact u.s. activity in the region. well certainly it is a matter of concern for the u.s. government as we heard there of the u.s. president donald trump said that he would be in contact with british officials about these latest seizures to see what support the u.s. could provide to the u.k. in this situation it's also worth pointing out that u.s. officials had signaled that they were going to unveil a new security plan for the gulf for commercial vessels in the gulf on friday but
6:56 am
that announcement did not come even though they had said that they were looking for ways of using the u.s. military to help provide additional security it is worth pointing out mario that there is already something known as combined task force 152 multinational force of naval ships that have already been providing security for commercial vessels and dealing with other security issues in the gulf for some years now so it's not clear how that the proposal coming from the trumpet ministration would augment or be a substitute for c.t.f. 152 it is worth noting however that they're very mindful of the fact that the tensions between washington and tehran have not abated in recent days even though we did hear the president say on friday and the secretary of state mike pompei o
6:57 am
echo those comments that the u.s. is willing to talk to iran without preconditions but iran has to change its behavior 1st thank you very much from washington from washington roslyn jordan thank you miles. u.s. president ronald trump is blaming fake news for the backlash against race this chance that his campaign rally in north carolina on wednesday has been an outpouring of support for a somali born congresswoman omagh after trump supporters chanted send her back at the event in a series of tweets over the weekend trumpet and 3 other progressive democratic congresswoman to go back to their countries of origin. of the trying to distance himself from those chants on thursday was back to attacking omar again when he spoke to reporters in the of alofa. i'm unhappy with the fact that
6:58 am
a congresswoman can aid our country among happy with the fact that he congresswoman can say anti-semitic things imo i'm happy with the fact that a congresswoman in this case a different congresswoman can call our country and our people garbage that's what i'm after you're not opposed to people in north carolina that stadium was packed it was a record crowd and i could have filled attended as you know those are incredible people those are incredible patriots but i'm not happy what a congresswoman goes at said i'm going to be the president's my mayor she's going to be the president by the. she's lucky to be where she is let me tell you. the things that she has said are just scrapes to our country south africa's corruption watchdog says it has found the president so will run a post that deliberately misled parliament on a question about a $27000.00 donation to his party campaign fund from
6:59 am
a post that said he knew nothing of a $35000.00 donation while vying for the governing party's top job but the public protector says he was lying to me to has more from pretoria. cyril ramaphosa came into office vowing to fight corruption we must fight corruption we must pride for order and core luzhin as well as in the private sector with the same pair pause and intensity that we want to fight it in the public sector but the public protector says he deliberately misled parliament when answering questions about a campaign donation made 2 years ago from a poster who was defeated president of south africa at the time received a donation of the tea $5000.00 when he was running for president of the african national congress but he told parliament that the money was for his son and did his foundation it turns out there's no foundation from up close that issued
7:00 am
a correction saying the money was for his own campaign and he didn't know about it i have come to the conclusion that these are marriage to the allegations relating to this suspicion of money laundering as alluded to in the complaint last the interested exposed to serve to the risk of conflict between his private interest and he's of a shared responsibilities the public protect decision is evidence that as much as 28000000 dollars was channeled through various campaign trust and other beneficiary accounts linked to run a porsche and good one this is from a poor search should have declared the donations to avoid a conflict of interest she wants both the president and c.e.o. of the company gavin watson investigated for money laundering this is gone beyond the parameters of simply a parliamentary misdemeanor it has got into the realms of criminal justice and certainly it will provide ammunition for several rival pools as enemies within them
7:01 am
within the a.n.c. who we know are many to go after his continued leadership of the party the public protector's verdict means that i'm up or so i will have to declare all donations to his campaign within.
