forces retake a strategic town of the mostly rebel held on clay. saddam has formally disbanded the military council that took power after deposing longtime president almost all of the shade in the past few hours the military and protests leaders have announced and 11 member sovereign council to run the country for 3 years to the elections are held it will be led by left hand in general the fact that for the 1st 21 months but it has been heading the military council which is ruled the country since but she too was ousted and april has been morgan has more now from current form. the decision by sudan's military council to appoint a sovereign council comes in line with a power sharing agreement that was signed between the military and the opposition coalition known as the forces of freedom and change on saturday now asper that

agreement the rule of the suffering council will be largely ceremonial and it will be overseeing the executive council which will be having members nominated by the opposition coalition and the legislative assembly which 2 thirds of it seats will go to the opposition coalition as well the sovereign council will have 11 members 5 from the military 5 from the opposition coalition and 11th member which has been agreed upon by both sides it will be sworn in on wednesday morning and after that a prime minister who has already been nominated by the opposition will be sworn in in the evening this marks the beginning of sudan's transitional period which will last for 39 months the 1st time $21.00 will be headed by the military and the remaining 18 will be headed by civilians it's taken more than 8 months of protest and more than 4 months of negotiations for the sudanese to reach to this point and start the transition period but both sides the opposition and the military say they're now optimistic that soon sudan will start its transitional phase and that

the journey to civilian rule has begun. well it's been a long road to sudan's new government so how did we get here while months of protests which began on the rise in food and fuel prices led to the military removing a longtime president omar al bashir from office and april the military then assumed power but protesters weren't happy they wanted a civilian government and continue to mass at an outside the military headquarters on june 3rd paramilitary forces attacked and killed over 100 protesters shortly after protest leaders of the military resume talks mediated by the african union and ethiopia several power sharing declarations were signed and under the agreements the main opposition coalition chose the prime minister they selected. an economist well let's get more on all of this now we're joined by silly man by a senior policy adviser on sudan for the enough project and he's joining us from west orange in new jersey very good to have you with us on al-jazeera so what do

you think the sovereign council's 1st priorities will be in getting sudan back on track not just after the past 10 months or so of protests but 30 years of bashir. the fed is the top priority should be not to interfere going to or to meddle with the agenda of this government zillion governments have an enormous task to do list the national economy achieve a lasting peace in sudan evolution of that have been corrupted undestroyed wrigley and the leadership of president bush university that gets them there for the millions use and the priorities are completely on right now as we speak sudan is facing a many of the club disaster and not people come up with any more time than the military should be humbled into accepting the leadership. and this about the

know a lot of economists acknowledge that politicians who are worried about reelection will do anything to try and shall we say stoke the economy even if those efforts are inherently short term and could actually risk the health of the economy in the long run i really think that is more what this is about than anything with the u.s. economy itself it is interesting there's a lot of talk about recession in this nation right now but if you look at the numbers 1st half near has been great we've been growing a little over 2 and a half percent the labor markets are tight wages are rising the housing market started to rebound and now we're enjoying low interest rates again so it's really hard to say what is wrong right since that seals assessment then off the state of the u.s. economy is doing well unemployment a success story growth has slowed the. only a little bit and keep in mind that last year growth was a little bit about 3 percent but that was driven by the tax cuts that were put in place the in the 2017 look to fiscal stimulus plan which this nation didn't need
