on the official news agency china's official news agency that is warning that the end is coming for hong kong adrian how is that being interpreted where you are. bought by. the well i think here in hong kong people are getting used to that sort of mouth frothing from state controlled media i think the essential message coming out of beijing has been this just because we haven't intervened so far doesn't mean that we won't one day in the future but as i say that sort of language sort of feeds into the determination and defiance of the people here in hong kong and you're seeing some of that defiance right behind me these are some of the i estimate 15220000 people who have gathered here because they are marking a boy called by many workers here in hong kong they have taken the day off work is sort of going to work they they've taken leave and we're talking about a real cross-section of hong kong people here people who work in banks so i spoke
6:01 pm
to someone who's a headhunter people who are chefs the real cross-section of hong kong society they've gathered here in front of the main government complex which is right beside the headquarters of the people's liberation army here in hong kong so i find it all demonstration and i remind viewers that there are many people here who remain very supportive of the protesters and indeed the methods that they're using they say that the violence that has been perpetrated by the protesters is in their view acceptable and they say this demonstration is meant to show that the protest movement by no means is flagging here in hong kong now you mentioned that it's not just you know workers who've been staging a day of action today so to have a number of students secondary school students i spoke to one earlier today from a secondary school the 17 years old he also stressed that these students fully support what the other protesters have been doing. they were staging
6:02 pm
a silent protest outside many schools today wearing those familiar yellow helmets and say small which have really become very much a trademark of our cool hong kong. at some schools so police actually entered to talk to students and to check their id and that is a around i say the protesters here have white tara that is now and. they worry that the police are becoming much more proactive if they are targeting not just people suspected of taking part in protests but also people they suspect might be about to take part in protests every now writes adrian brown thank you for that update still ahead right here on al-jazeera praise from the you had to be secretary general in the fight against ebola in the democratic republic of congo.
6:03 pm
hello again welcome back to your international weather forecast well still quite stormy here across the central part of the mediterranean as well as in storms pushing through central europe now 2 different systems the one down to the cell area low pressure that's really not moving too much we're going to continue see rain across this region as well as northern africa up to the north though we do have a front that's pushing through with some winds a search with that as well as the rain now up here towards the northwest we have a system out of the atlantic that's going to cause them windy conditions across much of the u.k. as well as rain up there towards the north as we go towards the rest of day on monday and into tuesday the rain continues across much of the central region and for southern italy it could get even wind more widespread across that area but for all we do expect to see a type there of about 30 degrees up to the north though a windy in berlin attempt a few of $21.00 well for the northern part of africa including algeria and tunisia
6:04 pm
those storms have been pushing through you can see the circulation right there of that storm system we're going to see more rain along the coastal areas to today and as well as tomorrow we could be seen as will close flooding as well temps for algiers at $29.00 tunis at $29.00 as well and then as we go towards tuesday we get some improvement but we are still going to be watching the winds across much of that area tunis it is going to be a warm day for you with a temperature of 30 degrees there. my cancer. experience will never be seen as it's going to places to get.

hello again the top stories on al-jazeera the u.n. special envoy to yemen is calling for accountability from the saudi led coalition off its airstrikes killed 65 people in the city of modern bombs hit a detention center early on sunday though the coalition says it was targeting a site storing weapons. the united nations is calling on israel and hezbollah to exercise restraint after they exchanged fire along the lebanese border on sunday has the targeted an israeli military vehicle israel launched about a 100 or 2 or shells of what it said were hezbollah targets across

a border village. thousands of students in hong kong are skipping the 1st day of school right now they're keeping up the pressure against the government protest organizers have called for a 2 day general strike this follows the airport protests which led to multiple flight cancellations. a doctor has been killed in the latest case of mob lynching in india human rights watch says at least 44 indians have been killed in vigilante attacks in 4 years most were muslims accused of slaughtering house which are considered sacred by some hindus and child for her reports. so who now has lost all hope she will ever get justice 2 years after her husband was beaten to death by 9 re crowd a court in the indian state of raja tom acquitted the 6 accused citing a lack of evidence. belew was a dairy farmer who was transporting cattle on the day he was killed accused of

buying cows for slaughter. some hindus consider cows sacred. i gored went on and got his son is shot saw the attack he says despite the fact that the killing had been filmed on a mobile phone by a bystander. and that his father had given the names of his attackers in his dying moments the perpetrators were released new figures and when the investigation began it started under b. doobies government order with the police have done it was done under pressure. a local non-governmental organization the center for the study of developing societies in india recently conducted a survey on police attitudes they found that nearly half of india's police force feel that muslims are prone to crime and one 3rd said it was natural to punish those engaged in call slaughter. earlier this year the u.s. state department released its annual report on religious freedom secretary of state
6:08 pm
mike bell refer to it as a report card on the performance of different nations india did poorly and from what the people in the villages here tell us it has been consistently getting worse they describe it as a politics of hate instilling fear and sowing division this analyst says the law enforcement agencies are beholden to the government of the day there is a clear sense that the police or the mob has the license of the ruling government in part and. no prosecution the governing b.g.p. says it is committed to enforcing the law and little punish those responsible for these attacks so it is not good for anybody but is it a crime and the person who has committed crimes should be punished without any 2nd thought. back in battle khan's village the family has now decided to take the case
6:09 pm
to a higher court and cautiously hopes to find justice. but many muslims in constant strict feel abandoned by the police and targeted by the fringe groups they say are supported by the central government. of iraq al-jazeera how the ana india. or hurricane dorian is pounding the bahama islands in the caribbean wrecking homes and downing power lines islanders are being warned to remain in emergency shelters until the category 5 storm passes weather experts are hoping the hurricane will avoid a direct hit on the u.s. state of florida and to gallagher has more from miami. hurricane dorian packing sustained winds close to 300 kilometers per hour is battering the bahamas this is one of the most powerful storms to hit this nation and it's predicted to linger for hours with coastal surges in excess of 6 meters despite pleas some residents have decided to ride the storm out a decision officials say could put their lives at risk that is not
6:10 pm
a good idea they're asking you to reconsider that decision and to seek shelter in the west. before the weather becomes too severe to come into freeport this is not a time for us to seek to resist forecasters say dorian should turn north hugging the east coast of florida once it passes over the bahamas but risks remain florida georgia and the carolinas are making last minute preparations even if dorian remains on its predicted path strong winds heavy rains and storm surges could have a catastrophic impact even the slightest deviation with a storm this large ferocious and slow moving could be deadly this storm at this magnitude could really cause massive destruction and do not put your life in jeopardy by staying behind i when. you have a chance to get out and you still do have time to prepare yourself and to make sure
6:11 pm
that you and your family are safe states of emergency have now been declared in parts of florida georgia and the carolinas and the dangers will remain for some time the eye of hurricane dorian may remain off the coast of florida but much of the state is still inside the cone of uncertainty from its formation dorian has surprised forecasters strengthening significantly on sunday morning the 1st outer bands are expected here later on monday and into choose day well millions can do now is watch and wait as this huge storm creeps closer to the u.s. all eyes are on the bahamas with significant damage is already being reported the next few days could prove devastating i have tried everything but my house which i still don't think up one now but we don't know how long we're going to be so we have to take whatever precautions have an award or whatever will nitpicks we can have but i think the thing will be together here in the not no one should be alone
6:12 pm
forecasters are warning that dorian may slow down even as it grows in intensity some of describe the storm as textbook others say it's a lingering monster that will threaten lives for days and gallacher al-jazeera miami florida. well the governor as of georgia and south carolina have ordered people near the coast lines to evacuate it's based on the latest forecasts and storm track which we have been following very carefully and after extensive consultation with local county emergency management officials and those you see here today i'm issuing a mandatory evacuation starting at noon starting at noon on monday september 2nd let's bring in our meteorologist kevin corriveau he's joining us now for an update and kevin you know the bahamas are no strangers to hurricanes but this particular one is quite significant this particular one is this is the strongest hurricane to ever hit the bahamas there with the winds of course very strong not the biggest storm assuring them on the cell a just
6:13 pm
a moment the reason this is going to be so bad is the storm is slowing down and because it slows down and we never want to stay a storm parked itself anywhere because that means going to see a lot of rain lot of storm surge in the same locations that let's take a look at the satellite right now this was about 20 hours ago as it was making its way towards the bahamas well defined eye back then as well the storm has made the storm has actually pushed more towards the west now of course making 2 landfalls in the bahamas keeping the i well sustained in the area the big problem now as i said is it is now moving at one mile per hour it's almost a stationary storm directly over grand bahama islands so what that means is it's going to be raining trenchantly across much of this area the winds are going to stay at $270.00 across much of this area and we're going to be seeing storm surge in these regions so we're going to be seeing not only destruction only as strong would move away and the areas to the east would get better this is not is what's going to be happening today so that is why this particular storm is going to be so destructive across much of this region here's the thing though it's not really
6:14 pm
expected to make landfall in the u.s. right so people there be very concerned that's why when we say that it's not going to landfall doesn't mean that it's not going to be of an impact because the storm right now has been moving so slowly that it's a lot of. question mark on where it's going to go we did think that the storm is going to be think its way towards the north whenever it stalls out like this the models really have to recalculate where the storm is going to go after this we do think that it's going to stay off the coast but how far off the coast is going to be the big question as we go towards the next day so today remaining as a cat 5 storm as we go towards tomorrow this is where the big question mark comes in we did think the storm was going to be making its way towards the northwest and then to the north just off the coast of florida we still think it's going to stay off the coast of florida but we think that it's going to be closer than what it was so that means the impact of those very strong winds all the way up from say cape canaveral into jacksonville over towards savannah there's going to be a problem we're going to be seeing storm surge all the way from florida georgia as well as the carolinas rip currents as well as very destructive winds across much of
6:15 pm
this area as you notice up towards the next few days still a category 4 storm and that is why we're talking mandatory evacuations across much of this area as we go towards the next old days we are looking much better down here towards the south things will be clearing out but it is going to be a much big problem as we go to the north with a tattoo a form for just off the coast there back to you all right kevin thank you for that update on the storm the u.n. secretary general has praised the bravery of communities battling an ebola outbreak during a visit to a treatment center in the democratic republic of congo this has been difficult to contain and not speak as of groups operating in some areas as well as violence between rival ethnic groups al-jazeera is monitoring developments from nairobi. it has killed more than 2000 people in the east of the democratic republic of congo
6:16 pm
over the last year the u.n. secretary general until you could terrorise flew to the epicenter of the outbreak in the town of benny to express solidarity with. the city we need to put the same issues into the fight against a bola as we have with dealing with insecurity in all affected regions mobilizing remains inside the country and with the international community in order to read a cake this outbreak. since the 1st cases were identified a year ago the government struggled to contain it many people don't trust the government or its health workers some of the treatment centers have been attacked by militia. in the control of a break is taking too much time this outbreak is serious this is why we need the government to do more. but the response has been helped by an effective vaccine. secretary general met people who recovered from the virus treatments are more effective than before chances of survival higher could be lost most of her family

before she recovered her mother was the 1st to die. after my mom spiral i became terribly ill with a high fever then they started giving me medicine when i got better i was welcomed back by my other relatives. in spite of international support and the improving treatment new cases keep emerging further and further from where the outbreak began to terrorise has promised more support is the world's 2nd worst outbreak people are waiting to see how many more months or years it will take to bring it under control malcolm webb al-jazeera nairobi kenya indonesian police. have been seen shooting at protesters who appeared to have their hands over their heads the video was filmed last week but has only now been made public a local activist said protesters wanted to enter an administrative office

hello again they had lines on al-jazeera the u.n. special envoy to yemen is calling for accountability from the saudi led coalition off to rid syria strikes killed 65 people in the city of bombs hit a detention center early on sunday though the coalition says it was targeting its site story. the united nations is urging israel and hezbollah to exercise restraint after they exchanged fire along the lebanese border on sunday hezbollah says it targeted an israeli military vehicle israel launched about $100.00 or 2 richelle what it said were hezbollah targets across a border village here a force that has more from northern israel. lebanon says that israel is routinely going through its space toward syria using its airspace space to launch attacks into syria on manned vehicle aerial vehicles inside it says space which hezbollah now says it reserves the right to shoot down on the israeli side israel argues that
6:20 pm
there is an expanding iranian operation inside lebanon that hezbollah and iran are working together to create or modify existing missiles into position guided weaponry which benjamin netanyahu has made it clear is a red line as far as israel is concerned hezbollah through its leader hassan nasrallah has denied any such activity so this particular conflagration does now seemed seem to have died down but there is always the possibility even the likelihood of more down the line thousands of students in hong kong are skipping classes right now to keep up the pressure against the government protests organizers have called for a 2 day general strike they are continuing to demand the scrapping of an extradition bill and greater government reforms hurricane dorian is pounding the bahama islands in the caribbean wrecking homes and downing power lines islanders
