he can be funny increased paychecks lower health care bigger paychecks cleaner government well i think that we can work with the administration on prescription drugs i hope so and infrastructure i hope so clean government that's more of a challenge as so as we gather here today we are clearly at a place where we are legislating to try to meet the needs of the american people in a transformative way we are investigating we are litigating. we also here today on the one year anniversary. of the cause shogi book since the fish ovi it was killed it is such a very sad thing and at the same time you see the administration humor thing with the very people who perhaps orchestrated it that the again it's a yesterday the chinese observe their 70th anniversary at the same time the

president was very positive about that well that they're having their there and virtue is one thing praising them for it is another when they have serious repression going on right now in china whether it's undermining the culture language and religion of tibet whether it's seeing course they're placing in education camps $12.00 or 3 depending on the cause but at least one $1000000.00 whether it's the suppression of democracy and hong kong and just a violation of human rights throughout china it's the same fight we've been having for years for what does it profit a man or a country if he gains the whole world and suffers the loss of his soul but we seem to be able to ignore these the. the shout out from our soul on respecting the dignity and worth of every person so i know many of you are here some of your regulars many of you are not and i said mr schiff maybe you should

come to all of our meetings we might get some coverage for what we're trying to do for the american people but we are very proud of the work of our chairman of the intelligence committee are we take this to be a very sad time for the american people for our country and peaching a president or having the investigation to feature president is not an easy thing to be so joyful about i don't know the name but it's joyful but it is a sad time and as you've heard me say over and over again in the dark days of the revolution thomas paine said the times have found us we think the times that found us now not that we place ourselves in the category of greatness of our founders but we do place ourselves in a time of urgency on the threat to the constitution a system of checks and balances that is being made it is they fought
12:03 am
for independence they declared independence they fought and won they established a democracy thank god they made the constitution amendable so we could always ever be expanding freedom and we see the actions of this president being an assault on the constitution. once we had his even admission to that we had no choice but to go forward. thank you madam speaker and thank you for leading. the entire house of representatives through this very fraught in time represented through this very fraught time in the history of the congress indeed the history of the country i also want to express my own condolence once again to the family of jamal khashoggi . who bravely sought to advocate for free expression in

saudi arabia and it cost him his life. we are deeply and his death and we are determined to bring about justice for those who were responsible for that heinous murder. it's also an appropriate time to recognize the danger facing journalists all over the world. in terms of the issues that we've been focused on this week i want to give you a brief update. of what has transpired really just within the last week last thursday the intelligence committee held an open hearing with the acting director of national intelligence. the following day chairman angle issued a subpoena to the state department in close consultation with myself and chairman cummings. we are deeply concerned about secretary pump ayos effort now to. potentially interfere with witnesses who whose testimony is needed before
12:05 am
a committee many of whom are mentioned in the whistleblower complaint. and we want to make it abundantly clear that any effort by the secretary by the president or anyone else to interfere with the congress's ability to call before it relevant witnesses will be considered as evidence of obstruction of the lawful functions of congress and more than that will allow a an adverse inference to be drawn as to the underlying facts that if they are going to prevent witnesses from coming forward to testify on the allegations in the whistleblower complaint that will create an adverse inference that those allegations are in fact correct. on monday. i issued a subpoena to rudy giuliani again in consultation with chairman cummings and angle . we expect mr giuliani to comply with the legal process we
12:06 am
are using he is obviously a key figure in all of this by his own admission as well as by the allegations in the whistleblower complaint today and just within the last hour and a half our chairman cummings. noticed 'd a subpoena that will go out later. in that this week or next week after the notice period has expired that that committee intends to subpoena documents that the white house has been withholding from congress we are obviously coordinating very closely with chairman cummings on that on thursday and vaster volcker is scheduled to appear before a committee and on friday inspector general the inspector general of the i.c. mr atkinson will appear before the committee and testify as well the last time that the inspector general testified we did not have the complaint we now do and we certainly intend to ask the director about the efforts that were made to corroborate that complaint which we now know the inspector general found both

credible and urgent next week we have also scheduled a deposition or interview with the former u.s. ambassador of out of itch to ukraine. and we are in discussion with other state department fitnesses to secure their depositions so we've been very busy as you can tell this week we're going to be very busy again next week we are proceeding deliberately but at the same time we feel a real sense of urgency here that this work needs to get done and it needs to get done in a responsible period of time thank you for taking my moment beside him. do we have any questions 1st on the war to meet the needs of the american people in terms of u.s. m.c.a. and. the. it's a i 3. on that subject. you were just listening to the

u.s. house speaker nancy pelosi who as you know launched the impeachment inquiry into president donald trump just about a week ago and standing right by her side was adams is the chairman of the house intelligence committee let's bring in. just to sum up for us she had what we heard in the past 10 minutes or so. what was interesting the nancy pelosi was really trying to emphasize at this event not just just about the impeachment inquiry and that's what appeared to be trying to rebut an argument by donald trump has been making on twitter just of the last half an hour or so don't trump was it was tweeting hash tag do nothing damns all the do nothing democrats are focused on is impeaching the president for having a very good conversation with the ukrainian president i knew that many people were listening even have a transcript they've been at the stuff from the day i got elected bad for the country nancy pelosi the democrats haven't met the stance of impeachment she was quoting he was quoting someone but he said basically saying look all this
12:09 am
impeachment nonsense is this is going nowhere driving the stock market you're for in case down because the democrats aren't doing anything nancy pelosi they're making an argument actually we are also focused on learning prescription drug costs the u.s. mexico cound trade agreement infrastructure also interesting lee both nancy pelosi and adam schiff mentioning that this was the anniversary of the the murder of democracy the that the journalist who was murdered at least as far as the cia is concerned and various other sources by the by the saudis at the at the behest of the saudi crown prince nancy pelosi that try doing the white house the presidency for schmoozing with people who perhaps orchestrated his murder out of sheer tribute to him so we had nancy pelosi this speech this is a regular weekly press conference and you could see she was like well where are you where you were that you guys were usually clearly there's more interest because. the impeachment adam schiff the house intelligence committee just basically going
12:10 am
through what we all know what what happened last week what happened this week the new bits from that. we know that the these threats committees in congress have already subpoenaed documents from the state department and from donald trump's personal lawyer rudy giuliani the new bit of information we're getting is that the press congressional committees have of asked for weeks for documents from the white house itself regarding the conversations with the ukrainian president the white house you know the conversations that the whistleblower complaint is all about now if they don't get the documents by friday or perhaps early next week there will be subpoenas now for the white house and what the cult what congress is saying is if you don't cooperate with us 1st of all we will look at this as obstruction of congress which is a crime but secondly we would also make the inference that the reason you're not giving us the information we want is because because you're worried that the information you will give us will back up the whistle blows claim which was that inappropriate activity was happening within the white house the office of the
12:11 am
presidency was being used inappropriately in order to impact potentially the 2020 election all right thank you for that update from washington. now we're hearing that the u.s. presidential candidate bernie sanders is in hospital and his campaign team saying the democratic senator was at a campaign event where he experienced chest pains doctors say he's received treatment for a blocked artery let's bring in mike hanna also joining us from washington to tell us what you're hearing about bernie sanders and his health. well then he's on his campaign says all campaign activities have been suspended until further notice as they put it they say though that he is in very good spirits but obviously this is going to have a major impact on his campaign remembering that bernie sanders turned $78.00 on the 8th of last month so clearly among voters that would be concerned about his advanced age there was one particular stage introducing health issues as well may
12:12 am
certainly have a major impact on the race for the candid to see for president bernie sanders has been tailing in the polls behind joe biden fighting it out with elizabeth warren for 2nd and 3rd place but certainly this is going to have an impact on the campaign in the days and weeks to come he certainly was very active mike when it came to the campaigning he just announced a couple of days ago that he had raised 20 $5300000.00 in the 3rd quarter and that's the largest quarter for any democratic candidate this year. yes it is indeed he's been very active on the campaign trail and certainly he's been very effective at raising money but this is been a problem among some democrats that alec explain why for example bernie sanders recently registered as an independent for the senate race in 2022 now that is to aid to campaign funding but it's a very strange situation where you've got
12:13 am
a man running as a democrat in a presidential campaign but registering as an independent for his next senatorial campaign not be depressing to be the same when he competed for the position with hillary clinton back in 2016 then he registered as an independent for the 21000 senate race while running as a democrat hillary clinton the qs didn't very strongly of dividing the party of running not in the interest of the united states but in the interests of dividing all roughing up the democrat party now certainly bernie sanders himself denies this and his followers deny this insisting that there's nothing more that he wants than to get rid of trump at this particular point and that the interests of the democratic party are high on his agenda but there is still that sense and many democrats to argue that bernie sanders is presence within the campaign does tend to disrupt rather than drive the agenda of the democratic party that debate is going to be in live and by the news of his ill health at present all right mike hanna

thank you. police in baghdad have used live rounds to break up crowds of protesters . ok security forces appear to fire above the crowd in the latest rounds of demonstrations at least 2 people have been killed iraq's prime minister has promised an inquiry following clashes that mass rallies on tuesday that left at least 2 dead and 200 injured our correspondent joining us from baghdad what do you hearing about the latest situation in iran. well what was happening is the protest was trying to get into taqueria square that's where the main protest took place on tuesday night on wednesday during the day the iraqi security forces had actually sealed the area off so the iraqi security forces have managed to stop the protesters getting into tacker square of course what that's meant is a protest of actually spread across baghdad in various different locations now this
12:15 am
is the road to the airport which is just behind me baghdad international airport there are clashes that there are clashes about half a kilometer away from me on the bridge going into various where those clashes are ongoing because of the way this has been set up through social media the call came on social media to get people to protest site sense of push into tucker square the iraqi government has actually severely restricted access to sites of displaced work such as twitter indeed i've had problems logging on to those websites as have all of my colleagues and a lot of my iraqi friends and this seems to be a deliberate move by the government to stop the message getting out but the message has got out now what we're seeing is not only just in baghdad we're hearing that in at least 5 other cities across iraq have been protests taking place in large numbers and this is also a very real concern for the iraqi government that big concern is that these
12:16 am
protests could spread. into a nationwide movement and just get bigger and bigger all right thank you. a moment of silence has been held in istanbul on the 1st anniversary of the murder of saudi arabian journalists. family friends and members of the united nations investigation team were at the ceremony in turkey so she was never seen again after going into the saudi consulate to collect documents to get married his fiance spoke of her pain over the past year after wards years in my life i stand here broken but. proud to see you all here and you all i still seek justice i want to know what's happened so he's got the i want he's going to be released from jail i want those.

held accountable for day action. let's make to around the lane he's the forbes chief content officer he's joining us from new york good to speak with you on the al-jazeera news hour so a year later the world is still very much talking about. the belief is that whomever wanted to silence him simply has not succeeded what are your thoughts when you're on. well we've done something we've tried to do something you know in part in his honor especially here with in the year anniversary several months ago we started something called the one free press coalition where we have news outlets from around the world that are going to focus every month we have the 10 most urgent cases and we focus on. press freedom cases where we can shine the light of the world media on 10 cases and make sure that people don't forget this month because shoji is the number one case and we want everyone to remember
12:18 am
and so we have reuters a.p. washington pose forbes time over 33 doesn't do that let's and we're joined this this month by al-jazeera as well which we appreciate every month we're going to keep on reminding people that this case has still not been there's still no justice and when to keep on reminding people to bring 1000000000 people a collective audience of 1000000000 around the world to remember and to keep watch and what do you ultimately hoping to achieve with this ultimate justice. well it's protection it's you know a lot of these journalists you know when he goes into the consulate into the embassy and then disappears in some ways he's alone and what we're saying is whether it's that case or whether it's in prison journalists in me and whether it's in colombia or mexico or bahrain wherever it is we're going to keep on reminding and they're not going to be forgotten and if we have our collective audience of all
12:19 am
these outlets as over a 1000000000 people to the extent that every month we sit there remind people of all the cases and we bring in new cases and we focus the world's attention we can offer some protection. in terms of journalists and bloggers member of the press who are just trying to do their job and are being intimidated and whether it's somebody who's a prison whether in this case horrible tragic case where it's a murder but there's no justice yet we want to just keep on focusing until there is a resolution to make sure the world keeps watching keep from members what are your thoughts on since you speak to us from new york let me ask you about the u.s. this policy when it comes to saudi arabia because this cia itself has concluded as you know that mohamed bin sound mind was the one who ordered the killing of the u.s. administration continues to do business as usual with saudi arabia and particularly mohamed been sidelined. that we've we have noted in the number one
12:20 am
cases much is that the shoji case. that the entire you know the cia or the u.s. cia itself as has indicated that they have evidence that the prince was a you know ordered or was involved in making the order and so we keep on reminding people that until there is justice and we we know that. the white house has not gotten behind with the theater borders and it is been u.n. reports on this as well so what we are trying to do is take all this and remind people what that there are and keep on every month in every month until there's justice all right wrangling we thank you very much for speaking to us on al-jazeera . still ahead on the news hour a day after a student was shot by hong kong police santy beijing protests show no sign of letting up. and then scoring the all blacks run riot against canada at the world cup peter has the action on the donator.

we might see a shower or 2 again in the southern part of iran or pakistan as the monsoon trough that really threw it out there disappears one small little as the picture is rather devoid of cloud what there is is just brief and disappearing so in the forecast yes as a hint still of showers in the eastern afghanistan finals of pakistan and again in the south or in iran but they are the exception not the rule the sun is out for most of us with isn't physically strong the temps are still above 40 on the rocky plain slow dropping and slightly dropping further west beirut at $27.00 come friday but in the sunshine so if you would by day and when early morning and late evening in doha. as an example the same is true always around the gulf stronger inland

12:25 am
link to the murder of his critic of the kingdom's consulate. more now on the impeachment inquiry we can bring in melanie sloan she's a former federal prosecutor and partner at the crisis management firm summer strategies she's joining us from washington d.c. thanks very much for speaking to us so how significant is it that it's pay it was not only on the call but is now accused of trying to prevent people from the state department from testifying and we heard adam schiff speaking about this just a short while ago at that press conference. well it's not just that secretary pump is accused of that trying to prevent people from talking to the senate of the house intelligence committee he specifically sated that pompei o has said himself that people can't go and several people are going anyway for one kurt volker the former envoy is already agreed that he is in fact going to going to have going to testify the former ukrainian ambassador is going to testify next week
12:26 am
and it is completely reasonable that house intelligence chair adam schiff said that he would draw the committee would draw a negative inference that mr pump air was attempting to obstruct justice by preventing people from coming forward i think the real question is also what did the secretary the inspector general over at the state department say this morning apparently there was a meeting between the house intelligence committee and the. and he said he had asked for an urgent meeting to discuss documents that he wanted to share from the state department so i'm sure we'll be learning more about that in the coming days but it's clearly ramping the investigation is ramping up and they're moving full steam ahead it was also interesting that mr schiff noted that he and cummings cummings used the chair of the house oversight committee we're going to be issuing subpoenas to the white house in addition that's going to undoubtedly result in a full fledged battle we won't be surprised at all to see this wind up in the
12:27 am
courts you know we really got a sense from adam schiff on the how quickly you may say the democrats are moving ahead with this investigation when he said we're proceeding deliberately and we feel a sense of urgency but at the same time when you look at president trump's tweets for example what he's saying as well as some of the republicans is that they're likening this to a coup but what's your reaction to that. well obviously that's ridiculous the united states constitution imagines the concept of impeachment it's right there in the 4 corners of the document so that's not a coup for the for the house to go forward with its constitutional authority to investigate the president and consider impeachment at the same time this is a white house that has shown that it's willing to amp up. its response at any moment and try to rally supporters with extreme language that's not at all unusual and we also know that the president is not all that interested in complying they
12:28 am
were very recalcitrant in responding to the moeller investigation mr miller never required mr trump to testify personally and backed down from a fight with the white house and i don't think adam schiff however is going to back down in the same way so when they issue subpoenas to the white house in the white house refuses to comply i think will find the matter in the federal courts and it will be very interesting to see how that goes particularly in light of in another case yesterday a federal judge a well respected republican appointed federal judge talked about how this is a dark time many is concerned about obstruction at the white house are you getting a sense at all. how much public appetite there is for the impeachment inquiry going forward. well new polls issued today show that the public is increasingly supportive of impeachment so while trump's base still is with him and the president has raised our record amounts of campaign cash more and more of the public is
12:29 am
concerned and as we see the state department the secretary of state refusing to comply with subpoena and we can also expect to see subpoenas issued to bill barr over at the department of justice given that he has been traveling the world attempting to gain information to combat mr trump's to support mr trump's a view muller investigation we could expect to see subpoenas there i mean there's now a new report that mr trump was attempting to ask boris johnson over in england in the u.k. to also help him go against the mahler investigation and the russian probe so there's more and more 8 of this contact with foreign leaders for potentially improper purposes and i think we're going to be learning so much more about all of this in the coming days melanie sloan thank you for speaking to us from washington and people in hong kong are denouncing the shooting if it's teenage protester by police during violent demonstrations on tuesday this was the scene at

12:33 am
a submarine for the 1st time in 3 years the test came hours after the north said it would resume denuclearization talks with the u.s. on saturday. as a former u.s. state department diplomat he says north korea is creating tension to then have a better negotiating position come saturday boy i think this is part of north korea's longstanding playbook of rapidly juggling carrots and sticks they try to get the most out of engaging the united states and others diplomatically by also raising tensions and putting pressure on their their partners and by doing this they're normalizing certain activities like these missile launches and really pushing the boundaries of what is considered acceptable behavior that's what we've seen today why i think the north korean calculation is he here is that the united states is very much invested in these talks and therefore will not put up much of a strong response to these launches as it hasn't in previous launches and in
12:34 am
previous months so i think the north koreans are certainly calculating that the talks will continue in the united states will not make a strong response telecommunication companies around the world race to introduce 5 g. technology a tiny south korean village is among the 1st to receive it what's more remarkable is that the village is in the demilitarized zone separating north and south korea when he reports. on either side of the border are 2 villages that were built as symbols of peace but stand as reminders of country still technically at war here in the middle of the demilitarized zone a line of trees is all that separates north and south korea day song dong is the only civilian south korean settlement inside the buffer zone which was created when the korean war ended with an armistice in 1953. we live so close by and we see the soldiers all the time we can feel any change of atmosphere directly as we live with the soldiers and the north koreans right across from us access to this
12:35 am
isolated village of less than 200 people is strictly controlled by soldiers under the united nations command it's a unique place in many ways and now here's something most of the world doesn't are 5 g. cellular network it's being touted as a smart village with firestarter giving the 30 schoolchildren that latest technology and helping to reduce that feeling of isolation and better security for farmers who need military escorts when going to fields close to the border but can now stay in town more often and use their phones to chick and water crops. the introduction of this technology is clearly beneficial for the people who live in this village and obviously it's a good marketing ploy by the company that introduced it but undoubtedly there is also a message in it for north korea which lies just beyond these fields it's a message that says look at the technology right on your doorstep and consider the economic opportunities that could come with denuclearization. i don't know where
12:36 am
and when there is a peace movement around the world i hope for an opportunity in the future to show our technology to north korea but that move towards peace stalled after the last meeting in june between u.s. president donald trump and north korean leader kim jong il and since that meeting which was held just a few 100 meters from day song in the demilitarized zone there have been no further talks worrying many observers yes i am a little bit concerned but it's up to the north koreans they need to firmly commit to denuclearization and i'm hoping the north korea will do so in the near future the south koreans say they have scrambling technology in place so those across the border can't access the new 5 g. network but as the high stakes diplomacy starters high tech innovation is being taken as close to north korea as possible wayne hay al jazeera in the demilitarized zone south korea. i had on the hour we have an exclusive interview with the head of

hello democrat leaders have launched a scathing attack on the us president in the past the hour donald trump's been accused of quote blatant effort to intimidate witnesses and incitement to violence these related to trump's tweets on a whistleblower that's led to calls for his impeachment we will do everything in our power to make sure that that whistleblowers protected that that was a blowers. preferences in terms of their anonymity are respected. and let's let's not make any mistake here. the president wants to make this all about the whistleblower and suggest people that come forward with evidence of his wrongdoing are somehow treasonous and should be treated as traitors and spies. this is a blatant effort to intimidate witnesses sabotage joining us from washington and in
12:51 am
return see how the president himself launced a scathing attack on adam schiff and to nancy pelosi on twitter. right we weren't the only ones watching that press conference just before it began donald trump started tweeting and then during the press conference he was tweeting specifically against adam schiff who just tweeted adam schiff should only be sort of lucky to have the brains all their own strength of secretary of state might compare for a lowlife like schiff who completely fabricated my words and read them to congress as though they were said by me to demean a 1st class at west point is happy to let is sadly about the tweets too and it's true adam schiff at the at the house intelligence committee hearing we had a few days ago he didn't read the transcript of what was legibly a transcript was in fact that she more of a summary of the conversation that donald trump had with the ukrainian president he did summarize it for dramatic effect and and adam schiff presented it as a shakedown a sort of a criminal shakedown so that's really enraged donald trump ultra also talking now
12:52 am
and see pelosi was actually nancy pelosi the house speaker and the beginning of that press conference was trying to emphasize look we're not just about impeachment we're also trying to get prescription drug prices lower to the trade deal with mexico and canada and infrastructure spending no one really believes that actually will happen now because of the impeachment saying look we're not just a one trick a one trick pony and donald trump hash tag going out hash tag do nothing dems that is going to talk about impeachable time i'm not going to get anything done i'm going to try and sort of democracy by teaching me i'm the one who's trying to get things done and that is actually quite a useful message for the trump campaign to try to campaign actually soon after the impeachment proceedings were announced in 2 days they claim. about 50000 new donors they're just they're just actually announced record of amounts of money being from getting into the campaign but that does see this as a win for his campaign funding thing because the base does get enraged by all of this will they don't trump is clearly very disturbed about being another president to face to face impeachment but that's that's what we've been hearing from donald
12:53 am
trump in the last few hours anyway and what do we know about plans for the house committee to issue a subpoena to the white house for documents related to ukraine as part of this impeachment inquiry. right so we're getting more information than this to how this inquiry was developing we knew that the house committees had had subpoenaed documents from the state department and from rudy giuliani in and also hear from witnesses from the state department were i the current or former employees of the state department might bump a secretary of state pushing back rather forcefully which is then led to a rather forceful pushback from congress saying look if you if you try and structure this investigation that there will be trouble but now we also hear that there have been requests for documents from the white house about these schools to the ukrainian president the white house has yet to respond if they don't respond by friday to the house or the house and said look we we will subpoena those documents from you but what's so interesting about what we heard of the press conference is we had something about the strategy that house democrats has been pretty clear they
12:54 am
don't want this to drag on and course what they could do if the white house the state department rudy giuliani refuse to hand over the documents they could then go to court and try and force that but that could take years and what we're hearing from the house democrats is they do not want to go down that process instead what they will do is instead of going to court they will simply take that refusal as contributing to the articles of impeachment themselves and say what a well that's another one that you're obstructing you obstructing justice and secondly they'll say the fact that you're not giving us those documents will also add to the impeachment clerics will just conclude that for that the reason you know how many of those documents is because what the whistleblower said was true ok she had thank you. now a potential rival to donald trump is that hospital bernie sanders campaign team says the democratic senator i was at a campaign event 20 experienced chest pains doctors found the blocks are 3 and have successfully inserted 2 tiny tubes known as stents sanders is awake and talking but
12:55 am
his campaign events have been canceled until further notice. police in iraq have used live rounds to break up crowds of protesters. security forces appear to fire above the crowd. at least 2 people have died bringing the total killed in 2 days of protests to 4 there's also been protests in several other cities across the country iraq's prime minister has promised an inquiry following mass rallies on tuesday. baghdad how big are the protests today in iran. well there are certainly a significant size in fact they may well be larger than the ones on tuesday and they certainly are in more cities than they were on tuesday in the last 5 minutes and indeed now i can actually hear thunderous gunfire going off around the streets
12:56 am
where the protests are taking place now what happened on wednesday during the day is that the iraqi security forces threw up a ring of steel around tahrir square that's the focal point for the protests as much of the clashes took place on tuesday night that the protesters tried to push into tahrir square they were beaten back by the security forces now all these clashes taking place in various different neighborhoods and in the streets leading in to the capital also on social media there's a big call these protests to get larger and larger and get people out on the street that's really concerned the government who seem to have restricted access to the internet and to social media not just here in the capital baghdad but in various different cities across the country and that's a real show of how concerned the government might be that these protests could spread and become a nation wide movement that we've been speaking to sources close to the government who have said what they're really concerned about is opposition political parties
12:57 am
religious political parties calling out their supporters and inflating their numbers all of these protesters that currently most analysts are telling us that this protest movement is actually leaderless it's just very frustrated young men who are demanding jobs and opportunities. who are coming out in the streets there's no real leadership on what the iraqi government seem to be worried about is the fact that if leaders get involved that make it that might make it big a much more nationwide but these clashes are actually taking place even as i've been speaking during this flight you probably can't help it but i can hear it very definitely lots of loud gunfire going on but besides what the government is worried about is it saying anything or is it addressing the grievances off these young people that are coming out onto the streets these grievances are really not new. well these grievances are actually sure you're not going to be able to create thousands of new jobs overnight this is been decades in the making so quite what
12:58 am
the government can do to meet the protesters demands about these jobs and these opportunities is going to be very difficult for the government to actually address now what the government have done is they've set up a commission to investigate the events of chews day and of wednesday that committee that commission will be reporting directly to the promises office also promises office has said it will meet with the protesters but this is a leaderless movement allegedly there's no real key figures so quite who the government are going to meet to listen to those demands is very unclear right imran khan thank you. what boris johnson says is his final bricks and offer has been delivered to the european union the british prime minister says the proposal would require compromise from both sides and would not include customs tracks on the island of ireland warrants the was at the conservative party conference in manchester. so this is it to get bricks it done as
12:59 am
this conference has repeated relentlessly boris johnson's team has come up with a mindbogglingly complicated arrangement to solve the puzzle of the irish border junction of course it is best to make it sound entirely fair and generous and today in brussels we are taping what i believe are constructive and reasonable proposals which provide a compromise for both sides but he was clear about his motivation we will allow the u.k. whole and entire to withdraw from the e.u. with control over our own trade policy from the start. johnson's problem remains that he wants to cut the u.k. off from the e.u. at its border with ireland for reasons of trade but he wants to keep the border open for reasons of politics his solution is to try to have a bit of both creating 2 borders one inside islands and one between its and the
1:00 am
u.k. mainland the hard border in ireland would break the law yet johnson said it was the u.k.'s best last and final offer the alternative is no deal and that is not come we want it is not an outcome we seek a tall but let me tell you my friends it is not come for which we are ready are we ready for it. yes we are. the conservative faithful seem to love it spread has an idea it is so convoluted and unacceptable to islands and by extension the e.u. that there was an immediate assumption it had been designed to fail clearing the way for the u.k. . to leave the e.u. with a little so it all feels like what you might call a long shot but don't underestimate just how much some european countries want to get rid of what they see as the british problem and as well is that the johnson plan involves kicking parts of the irish border issue for years down the road who
