concentration camp 75 years after it was liberated and the people simply stalls from the basketball beyond remember kobe bryant's off to the n.b.a. store. along with several others in a helicopter crash in california. thank you very much for joining us the u.s. military says it's investigating a plane crash in afghanistan's gosney province it happened in a mountainous terrain which is partly controlled by the taliban now they've just released a statement a spokesman on twitter says that an enemy intelligence a. saddle kill area of de yak districts guys knee at noon hours today resulting in all crew and high ranking cia members killed wreckage and dead bodies at crash site
6:02 pm
as care to the latest on this developing story from zain bazarov a who joins us live from afghanistan's capital kabul interesting that the taliban are not claiming responsibility in the tweets zain what new information do you have about this crash. that is correct we've heard several reports that the taliban have claimed responsibility but those reports don't seem to be accurate at this stage it would seem like something that the taliban would handily say that they were responsible for but that isn't the case if you look specifically at the translation of the tweet what they are saying is that the plane was filled with people who they think are cia and that all those killed on board were members of the u.s. intelligence community but it does not they do not at any point claim responsibility and they do not at any point specifically identify any of the dead but as has been the case with this story all day the more we know the more questions there are the
6:03 pm
taliban have also been sending out photographs of all of the wreckage site most recently search being circulated on social media we saw a photograph of an emblem on the aircraft wreckage that read air command air combat command and it was very much identifiable as a u.s. insignia of some kind and so really it begs the question who now is in control of the wreckage site and of the bodies of the victims there we heard earlier today from the spokesman of the gazan province governor who said that his security forces had arrived and taken control of the site but this would seem to suggest that the taliban currently have or at some point did have a run of that wreckage site and really we've read reached out to u.s. forces here in kabul and we're still waiting to hear back any official comment or reaction on this crash and the u.s. military says it's investigating but as you said this is 10 quietly controlled by
6:04 pm
the taliban i imagine it's going to be a very difficult investigation to carry out tell us more about this area. that's exactly right fully this is certainly a nightmare scenario for u.s. forces here in afghanistan for multiple reasons this is a very mountainous region this is a snow covered region and we are at the peak of winter at this moment you know a search that would have been difficult of the best of circumstances will be more complicated now whether or not the taliban are presently there whether or not they'll be able to control decide to start falls as night falls it really is a situation where we have more questions than answers however a security source here in kabul has confirmed to journalists what kind of plane this is yes confirmed that it is an american aircraft that it is an 11 a model aircraft it is a bombardier global express plane that's a it's a modified passenger plane for military purposes and this plane was specifically designed to be used in afghanistan to help troops on the ground with logistics and
6:05 pm
communications and if this is indeed that aircraft it was designed after 2005 when a failed mission in afghanistan saw 19 u.s. navy seals lose their lives that is if it is indeed that aircraft then it will have been based out of khandahar airfield operated by the americans and it certainly was a far it was far away from home when it went down as being with an aide to say from kabul thank you zain. and out of lebanon spawn amende has passed its 2020 by jet as it tries to lift the country out of a deepening economic crisis protesters had tried to bribe politicians from getting to the vote many rejected the budget as it had been discussed and amended by the previous administration riot police were deployed and some demonstrators were physically removed from the pond amende pre-sent. evolution says protesters didn't expect the budget to be ratified so quickly. they've actually finally ratified this much to date budget which was put in by the government they had made some
6:06 pm
amendments to it in december this new government was quite seemed to keen rather to get it through a soon as possible it was meant to be a 2 day session and everyone out here the protesters have been quite surprised at how quickly they managed to ratify in fact the speaker of parliament earlier had said that it was it was important to for everyone to remain in parliament and get this done as soon as possible because the heights and security situation we've just spoken to some protesters close the ratification of this budget and they said that it's to vam is just a big shot is a representation of the old government and it's just new faces a very very concern they said that the budget had been approved is of the pre protest time which meant that the economy was not so good at the time but it's gotten so much worse since then a few last month story last week the finance minister had put out an appeal saying that they need 4 to 5 $1000000000.00 of foreign soft loans just to buy the basics
6:07 pm
for the next year and that includes weeks we're talking about fuel we're talking medicine people salaries that we've been speaking to say that the value of the near has much to be dropped lost about 30 to 40 percent of their income so the protesters that we've been speaking to today have said that they're not going to be going anywhere but they are also concerned they said how the security forces are tightening in on them and there have been some clashes in fact a few people ended up in hospital and yesterday. he rock hour in the u.s. embassy in baghdad has been hit by rockets the 1st direct strike after months of near misses 3 rockets landed inside the compound one struck near a dining area during a time the embassy is located inside the heavily fortified green zone in central baghdad the u.s. state department has described the situation is tense. and says its forces remain vigilant it's called on iraq to ensure diplomatic facilities opera tect it
6:08 pm
meanwhile iraqi security forces have use tear gas to try to pay on time government protesters from their camp in the capital a crackdown began after influential shia cleric. with to his support for the demonstrations. the head of the world health organization has arrived in china for talks with officials on how to contain the growing outbreak of corona virus so far 81 people have died more than 2700 are infected their visit comes as china's prime minister visited who han the epicenter of the outbreak has more from beijing. the streets in the capital beijing are almost empty and the most likely stay that way until next monday now that the lunar new year holiday has been extended to help curb the spread of the corona virus more countries and territories have increased restrictions on people from who they profit or even ban their entry in some cases as the chinese government continues with its plan on containing in treating those
6:09 pm
who have the virus market but i have to keep wearing the same mask if i throw this away no mask then i'm asking the government to sell more masks. i found out that everything sold out to buy food and vegetables now i hope the situation can get better after the chinese new year holiday china's 2nd most powerful government official premier league coaching has been put in charge of the coronavirus situation he traveled down the will hunt and visited the construction site of a hospital that's been purpose built for the virus that we should build the source patrol as soon as possible we set the date this february 2nd we bringing all the medical resources from all over the country will bring thousands of medical staff to other hospitals in here he then spoke with medical workers on the front lines of the virus outbreak. throughout the day safe and saved. lives because what you're doing now is to save lives your nation is relying on you while the people of china
6:10 pm
might be relying on those medical workers the entire world watches as the number of dead and infected continues to rise it's got al-jazeera beijing meanwhile leading violet just say in hong kong warning the outbreak could be worse than what the chinese government has been saying adrian brown has more on that we've been hearing this afternoon from gabrial long he's a leading if you do me all the just he is the head and he's the dean of hong kong university's medical medical faculty and he basically says based on commuter computer modeling that they've been using as other experts are around the world right now he estimates that in fact 44000 people have been infected by this virus in wu hand and he also says that the rate of infection will double every 6 to 7 days if we want and if we wish and desire to change the course
6:11 pm
all of those epidemic curves that i presented then we are looking at substantial. konya measures limiting population mobility that should be taken sooner rather than later. it includes. conservation of mass gatherings school closures is just using words from over arrangements with the population but also between population clusters how do we reduce population will visit were billeted so again this is based on computer modeling it doesn't mean it's necessarily going to happen but he said it is their forecasts are sort of worst case scenario you might say so these are launching words coming from hong kong and they appear to in a sense contradict what the world health organization has been saying because the world health organization so far hasn't felt compelled to declare an international
6:12 pm
public health alert the experts in hong kong are saying that draconian measures will be needed not just by hong kong's government and china's government but by other governments around the world in the case of hong kong for instance you know homework has think about things like food imported everything it eats just about is imported much of it coming from the mainland so his message was you know unless there is good planning unless we heed the warnings then you know we could be facing a global pandemic epidemic and in his words now in cities across asia on high alert because of the corona virus outbreak supplies of face masks are quickly running out and so forth case of the virus has been confirmed many pharmacies are making huge profits from chinese visitors rob mcbride reports. with facemasks selling out in many mainland chinese cities and in places like neighboring hong kong then pharmacies here in seoul have been doing
6:13 pm
a roaring trade catering for some of the 10s of thousands of mainland chinese visitors who are reckoned to be in south korea at the moment for the lunar new year we've been watching at this one pharmacy and this is a scene that's repeated at pharmacies throughout seoul where a steady stream of mainland visitors have been coming up and snapping up literally armfuls of face masks filling up the fags and in some instances the cases that they're going to be returning to china with at the end of their holiday as this corona virus continues to spread in hong kong and that's a huge shock tate i cannot buy in everywhere. it's difficult to buy mass in mainland china right now there is a shortage so we have to take some back from overseas the increasing numbers of chinese visitors to south korea have certainly been good for business in recent years but it has led to a certain resentment building on the age old animosities that have existed between
6:14 pm
the koreans and the chinese and it's something which has been made worse with this coronavirus in fact a petition on the official presidential a website calling for a complete ban on chinese visitors during this lunar new year period has gained hundreds of thousands of signatures a ban would seem to be a drastic measure but in fact the main doctors association here has said that if things continue to get worse as a last resort that may be the way forward. and to more head on this news hour including morning and legends basketball fans pay their respects to call me brian's after he his daughter and said this i can't in a helicopter crash that. phrase when i got out china has gone on to become the world's 2nd biggest producer. military weapons at. the and.

donald trump has criticized his former national security adviser who appears to be undercutting the u.s. president's impeachment defends the new york times has obtained a draft copy of a book written by john bolton he reportedly wrote that trump told him to tie ukrainian military aid to an investigation into his political rival democratic hopeful joe biden now this allegation is at the center of efforts to remove trump from office said he is willing to testify at impeachment trial now here's what president trump responded on twitter he says i never told john bolton that aid to ukraine was tied to investigations into democrats including the bidens in fact he never complained about this at the time of his very public in terminations if bolton said this it was only to sell a book let's go live to our white house correspondent kimberly hawk it's at the white house so it can be the democrats i imagine seizing on this bolton report as the president's impeachment trial is about to resume later today in the senate what
6:16 pm
should we expect. oh we'll expect that the cries for witnesses will grow ever louder that vote expected sometime this week and up until now it had looked as if that would be something that the democrats would not be successful in getting given the fact they needed for republicans in order to support them for the call for a vote on witnesses and to win that vote given that it is a republican controlled chamber now we're seeing that there are 2 republicans moderate or moderate republicans that seem to be suggesting they may be open to witnesses in light of this bolton bombshell as it's being called here in washington and that's a problem for the president now he is continuing today to have his defense argued on the floor of the senate in fact the u.s. president tweeting in just the last few moments about the senate hearing on impeachment hoaxes he call it starts today at 800 g.m.t.
6:17 pm
it appears the president wants to watch it wants people to watch and he wants to despite the busy schedule to have the focus on what is taking place in the 4th floor of the senate he's really looking to have his name cleared as one of my colleagues put it here at the white house it's all about the ratings and all this is happening of course as you said the president has a busy schedule the u.s. administration is about to unveil its much anticipated mideast peace plan some of said suspicious timing. very suspicious time a not just for the u.s. president who obviously is trying to distract from the headlines of what is taking place up on the u.s. capitol but also for his guests that we expect in the next hour the israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu will be talking about the plan that we have been waiting for that all secret plan to bring about peace in the middle east one that many people are skeptical on not just because of the timing but also because the fact that the palestinians have not been involved in this plan so we do have some
6:18 pm
understanding of the general parameters that it is likely to not recognize the 2 state solution that the palestinian refugees will not have a right to return or even compensation obviously this is not sitting well in these leaked elements of the plan given the fact that the administration keeps inviting the palestinians to be involved in this process but again not just the policies that this administration has put in place is taking office but also signaling that this is going to be a very lopsided plan and terms of achieving peace many are going this could be dead on arrival we're watching very carefully the israeli prime minister expected in the next hour and later we're also expecting the chairman of the blue and white party but he gets to join for these discussions as well thank you kimberly and we'll be checking in with you of course when that happens can be how it's live from the white house nearly 200 holocaust survivors are at a ceremony in the os wish birkenau camp in poland 75 years after it was liberated
6:19 pm
these are live pictures from the event survivors made wreaths at the execution wall of what was nazi germany's biggest that site more than a 1000000 people may need jews were killed there between 194-1945 john a whole is at the ceremony joins us now live a very solemn event jonah and this year focus on the survivors. yes absolutely this is the culmination of events that have taken place elsewhere on what is international holocaust remembrance day january the 27th events in berlin in paris as well where emanuel macron the french president urged the world to fight against the resurgence of anti semitic thinking and speech the rise of crimes against jews and the rise of the far right in a number of countries in europe but here is you say folly commemorating the 75th anniversary of the liberation of this camp by soffit red army troops are advancing
6:20 pm
from the east this event much more focused not on world leaders but on those survivors many of them in their ninety's people still remarkably fit enough to make what must be a harrowing journey to this place as you say some 200 of them here and we'll hear a clip from one of them in just a moment yvonne engelman 92 she spent just over a year here she saw her parents murdered in the gas chambers she escaped only because the gas chamber in which she was put away to death suffered some sort of technical malfunction and escape that she describes of course as a miracle here is yvonne engelman now recalling some of her appalling experiences and offering a message to future generations of the 13 year. coffee. if it opens at this. and also the fanatic of the human fish.

it's just tragedy it's just it i'm no words honestly. president donald trump tweeted bryant was one of the truly great basketball players of all time the loss of his beautiful daughter giana makes this moment even more devastating. president barack obama an avid basketball fan said coakley was a legend on the court and was just getting started in what would have been just as meaningful a 2nd act amid an outpouring of sorrow from players from across the spectrum of sports players from the euston rockets and denver nuggets held a moment of silence before their game on sunday players looked down shaking their heads he leaves behind a sport that is grieving a city in mourning and a legacy of greatness that will be remembered as long as basketball is played robert oulds al-jazeera calabasas california and asked for centipede authentic

6:39 pm
in the power of the internet. it was always there to lend support to human rights causes even till the end so what role exactly did she play in the revolution how crucial a role was it. i would say a very crucial one she was engaged in activism before the revolution in may 2010 she helped organize a protest a bit some say helped lead to the revolution this protest was against internet censorship and media suppression in tunisia and then when the revolution started she was really one of the only people documenting what was happening on the ground instead it was in custody in another town and so being a by talking with international media sharing her photos allowing them to be published she helped the world see what was happening and also helped tunisians who were under a pretty extreme censorship regime learned what was happening in their own country and so how did her work advance post revolution after the uprising. well lehman
6:40 pm
believed that the revolution in tunisia was the beginning of a global wave of protest and you know in some ways she was right of course i would say that you know she after after the tunisian uprising revolution you know she continued to work tirelessly on various human rights causes you know in her last years she was doing all sorts of things she spoke out about the plight of syrians she was collecting books for prisoners documenting stories of torture from tunisia before the revolution she really never stopped. what about the arab community that she was a plot of you know the people who paved the way through the revolution what's become of them today. well you know today i was looking for a photo that i took of me in one of those meetings in 2009 and i was always kind of an all or airy outsider member of that community and you know looking at the photos

i realized that we've had these 2 deaths 4 or 5 people who've been in prison or are still in prison such as egypt. and you know a number of people who've just stepped away from activism because of the things that they've seen and witnessed. and so you know they're still definitely a new generation of activists there's a thriving community but i think blogging that group of people even though many of us still keep in touch i think that those days are sort of over chilean thank you so much for taking the time to speak to a studio in your case an activist joining us from. from prague thank you for your time. un recognized government says it's reconsidering its persists a patient in talks after the collapse of a shaky truce at least 11 government soldiers were killed near misrata when the warlord only 4 have tossed forces launched an offensive to take the city on sunday after us forces are accused of bombarding civilians in the capital tripoli as well
