died for this range of stories from across the globe from the perspective of our network's journalists on al-jazeera. the u.s. warns against all travel to china as the world health organization declares the deadly coronavirus and global health emergency. i'm kim burrell this is al jazeera live from doha also coming up democratic hopes of calling witnesses in the u.s. president's impeachment trial looked to be dashed as republicans reveal their intentions. no where to go 700000 syrians are reportedly heading to the turkish border as airstrikes intensify in the last rebel held province.

and it shed light on faraway galaxy snaps the ends a 16 year mission for an orbiting telescope. the world health organization has declared the coronavirus a global health emergency the respiratory disease has killed more than 200 people in china infected 9 and a half 1000 and spread to 18 other countries the u.s. state department is now advising americans against traveling to china charlie angela begins our coverage. declaring an international public health emergency is rare but with the corona virus spreading globally the world health organization says it warrants a coordinated international response i'm declaring a public close emergency of international concern. over the global outbreak of

normal call a number of voters the main reason for this. is not because of what is happening in china but because of what is happening in other countries our greatest concern is the potential for the virus to spread to countries with weaker systems and we're prepared to deal with it. countries like india one of the latest report cases is the respect to disease until now individual nations have made their own decision in response to the outbreak in italy more than $6000.00 tourists were under locked out aboard a cruise ship near rome after 2 chinese passengers displayed flu like symptoms the couple were put into isolation until the test results came back negative for coronavirus meanwhile evacuations of foreign nationals from we continue turkey sent

a military cargo plane to bring back $35.00 turkish and 10 azerbaijani citizens and their families all including the crew will now be put under quarantine for 14 days the e.u. is bringing back another $350.00 europeans on a flight into portugal and 150 british nationals will touch down in the u.k. on friday this as a number of commercial airline suspended flights to china a decision the w.h.o. is now asking them to revise why did you take this decision why what is the science supporting this decision could you reconsider this decision. we suggested to w.h.o. that w. 2 should inform the world about transparency concerning these measures which should not constitute an example to follow but the decision to reconsider for china

the w.h.o. only had praise for the efforts to contain the virus but it is still spreading fast the message what will protect us has not been a version but solidarity and cooperation charlie angela al-jazeera well it's week now to rob mcbride who is outside a temporary quarantine center and also on in south korea where the 1st group of south korean citizens to be evacuated have a rived back what more can you tell us. that's right this was an overnight flight it was somewhat delayed we've been expecting this flight for the last couple of days now it finally took place especially chartered plane arriving overnight early friday morning into seoul bringing 368 south koreans who'd been trapped inside and we know that there are more than 700 south koreans there who have stated that they wanted to leave they went through screenings before they
8:05 am
left behind as soon as they touch down into south korea more health screenings we understand that 18 of those people on board actually had feverish symptoms and have all been taken to hospitals around the seoul area we are a couple of hours drive south of seoul. outside the city of san is one of 2 places where they have set up makeshift quarantine centers this is actually a police training center but. 3 by then hour ago 'd a large convoy of buses and police vehicles drove through these gates and basically this is a number of those people off that flight who are going to be here for the next 2 weeks in quarantine this place was chosen because it is fairly well cut off from from the city itself there are individual rooms where all of these people will be kept individually and obviously their health monitored over the next 2 weeks to make sure they have no signs of the coronavirus they get to keep their personal

device for entertainment but basically no visitors for the next 2 weeks as they are kept in quarantine and just about the reaction being near among locals because we have seen push back in other cities where quarantine santas have been set up so what are the locals there feel about it all. it is you know part of the uncertainty and i think fear about this corona virus we know obviously how contagious it is but there's an awful lot that we don't know about the virus and that does i think lead to lead to this feeling of fear there have been protests here for the past couple of days ever since people realized that they were going to have a quarantine center right next to them people did take to the streets they were trying to block the roads with tractors other vehicles police had to intervene the government actually sent down a minister and a governor a provincial governor to try to reassure people they were met with angry shouts and that's the some eggs being thrown so yes there have been protests. the vehicles

were allowed to get inside and in fact we also do see some people coming out saying look you welcome your south koreans we should bring you back and we should look after this so please come and stay in our city which they have done thank you that update that's right nick right there. ok bill alexander has the latest on that state department advice from washington d.c. . the u.s. government is telling its citizens very simply do not travel anywhere to china it's very rare that the state department would issue such a high level warning that just came in on thursday night they usually reserve this for countries that are at war or perhaps a country that's in the middle of an aftermath of a very severe natural disaster so now level for travel advisory for americans to china u.s. government saying do not travel to any part of china right now this all comes says on thursday that the 1st case of human to human was confirmed in the state of
8:08 am
illinois it was a husband and wife in their sixty's the wife traveled to china came back had had coronavirus apparently gave it to her husband he was checked into a hospital went through exams and his tests came back positive that's the 1st case of human to human transmission of this in the united states overall that brings the total number of people in the u.s. to 6 let's go hardly has more now on the story from beijing where it's been announced that china will fly home some of its ex-pats to buy. what they're going to do is they're going to dispatch charter aircraft they haven't said exactly where to bring those residents those citizens of china who are residents of these of acted areas back into china now it said it didn't really go into too much detail just because the difficulties they're facing so most likely that is because there has been definitely cancellation of all flights into where they're from city or
8:09 am
province in general but also because other airlines are canceling their flights into china generally so it's become much more difficult for chinese citizens who are abroad to come back home it will be interesting to see where these charter aircraft actually land on airport is obviously open to charter aircraft only overseeing those evacuations from the growing list of nations who are taking their citizens out. so be interesting to see what happens with these chinese citizens are they going to fly them straight back into han who are from their oars are going to land in a different city and then they'll take them down by special bus we're not sure yet and obviously the have to make some decisions about where they keep them and if they do actually go in to the affected area. a republican senator says he will oppose calling new witnesses that president donald trump's impeachment trial my alexander was seen as one of
8:10 am
a handful of republicans who could support the move when the senate votes later on friday democrats have been pushing for witnesses to be hurt including former national security advisor john bolton she had pretends he has more from washington . now the democrats need 4 republicans already have they have one republican problem possibly 2 republicans and mitt romney and. susan collins. there's a word for lisa murkowski to make a decision tomorrow but lamar alexander was seen as key because he was seen as someone who didn't really have anything to lose he was retiring at the end of the senate and he's also see to someone that if he voted for 4 witnesses maybe other republicans would be encouraged to do so as well but he's he's actually released rather in phatic statement as to why he is not going to vote for witnesses he says it has been proven the dog the ukrainians to investigate the bidens but he says that's inappropriate behavior it does not rise to the level of impeachable behavior
8:11 am
so that's the 1st article of impeachment or 2nd article impeachment obstruction of congress the marl example says the president has the right to confidential discussions with with his advisors so that's why when he was telling people just refusing to allow those around him to appear in the house or didn't want them to be in the senate that was perfectly ok because a president needs to have that confidentiality when he's making decisions on foreign policy this effectively we would think puts an end to the idea of witnesses do it means that there will be if the 3 other republicans do vote with democrats it would be a $5050.00 tie and the expectation is in that instance that means that the motion will not pass meanwhile has been rallying supporters in iowa and choosing the democrats in trying to overturn the results of the 2016 election even comes ahead of the state caucuses on monday when democrats begin the mob the song process to choose their candidate for november's presidential vote. you know we're having probably the best years that we've ever had in the history of our country and i

of course they're part of the jury trying donald trump i've been speaking to the people here no one believes that donald trump has done anything that rises to the level of impeachment they see is a way of trying to overturn the previous election and trying to keep him off the ballot for 2020. course going to be in the caucus the republican caucus also being held on monday night he's going to when because let me tell you can you name the 2 other republicans are standing against him no most people here probably couldn't either he has the bully pulpit he of course has the benefit of incumbency of being the president so he's going to win that quite significantly and people here believe that that is just going to be the 1st step in regaining the presidency and regaining the white house. still ahead on al-jazeera at the united nations we talked about the u.s. and palestinian ambassador about the trump administration's middle east plan. and
