to get a nation that doesn't allow someone to fetch you know you are there if you have to in the us and then there will be very frank with you no matter what if you don't think it was going to begin to fit you want to talk about you and i just i just got back on flight a long flight he's a great gentleman a great leader it's an incredible country and we were treated very very well and we really enjoyed it a lot of tremendous progress was made in terms of relationship our relationship with india is extraordinary right now and we're going to be doing a lot of business with and so you're watching live pictures there from the white house briefing room president has given a press briefing on the response to the corona virus outbreak he talked about the u.s. has already closed borders to flights coming in from corona virus hotspots he said the number one priority for him and his administration is the health and safety of all americans he said the wrist americans from the virus currently is very low he
3:01 am
said there are 15 confirmed cases of infection in the us with 42 cases coming from the japanese coming from that cruise ship in the japanese harbor of york a hama he said as good bipartisan spirit in congress and the white house for 2500000000 dollars in contingency funds to fight the virus he said he has spoken to the chinese president who's working hard to contain the virus let's just go back to the president from down here what more he has to say happens we're totally prepared to push for funding he talking earlier about the other 3 measures that you put in place in the trial which are just replacing burned at this point as a virus france italy south korea are you planning that in those countries what you should use if you know i'm the president of the united states i'm not the president of other countries other countries some of on the list that are very respected in what they do in terms of what we're talking about but i really want to be responsible for this kind of. if it means placing very strong very strong situation

on the border so people can come into our country from a country that is infected that's we're doing that we've already done it with numerous countries but we have to focus on this country and only gets right to impose ourselves on others but if others aren't taking care or we think they're doing it incorrectly you know we were dealing with world health and we have to reflect people and c.d.c. does go around to help other countries give them recommendations as what to do but they're working on their countries and we're working on our countries and so far from our simple and it's really worked out very well. this is all of that for any player why are you considering restricting travel to and from south korea italy and other countries that don't affect a right that we may do right now it's not the right time but it is right time and we are checking people as they come through specifically for the problem the problem that we're dealing with so we're checking a lot of people have that coming from south korea's been hit pretty hard italy's
3:03 am
been hit pretty hard china is obvious what's happened in china but again the numbers seem to be leveling off and going down in china which is very good news so we'll see what happens from there. into day 9 and they are going to the point of this are to buy point on the crime irises thoughts today the secretary is or testified that he didn't think one is necessary they were going to run it out of h.h.s. and you yourself have been downplaying this so watch now selecting the vice president right is on his or his vice president is in the administration but i'm having everybody report to mike mike's been very good very adept anybody that knows anything about health care they look at the indiana model and it's been a very great success it's been a tremendous model in terms of health care and this is really an offshoot of that so this isn't as our oh i don't view my kids as our mike as part of the administration but i'm having them report to my life well report to me they'll also be reporting in some cases to both i'll be going to meetings for the bit depending on what they want to do and what message we want to. now but we've done really an
3:04 am
extraordinary job when you look at a country this is with so many people pouring in with the number one in the world for people coming into a country by far. and we have a total of 15 cases many of which almost much within a day out i will tell you most of whom are fully recovered. i think it's really a pretty impressive mark now we did take in 40 people that were americans and they're also recovering but we brought them in so i call that they have a different group but we felt we had an obligation to american citizens outside of the country that we're trying to get back and we thought it was very right the stock market has taken a big all right so president from talking again about the response to the coronavirus he went on to say that he thinks the u.s. can develop a vaccine fairly rapidly for the virus he says the u.s. is ready for any corona virus outbreak and he actually showed a list from the johns hopkins medical that showed the list of countries in terms of
3:05 am
ranked in terms or prepared nests which point to point out that the u.s. was number one let's listen to what president trump said earlier about how ready the u.s. is for the virus but we're very very ready for this for anything whether it's going to be a breakout of larger proportions or whether or not where you know we're at that very low level and we want to keep it that way so we're at the low level as they get better we take them off the list so that we're going to be pretty soon at only 5 people and we could be at just one or 2 people over the next short period of time so we've had very good luck all right i'm going to joins us live now from outside the white house kimberly so a long and detailed press conference there by the president and various health officials from the c.d.c. on the health secretary what do you make of it and why did the administration think it had to speak now. yeah well the big headline from all of this is
3:06 am
essentially that the president has now appointed the vice president mike pence to be in charge of all of this in essence he has become the czar if you will of coronavirus although you have heard the president there saying that he's not calling him a czar but essentially that's what he's doing he will be in charge of coordinating the resources the state local and federal level to see that they are all flowing smoothly but in terms of why the administration is holding this press conference now there was there were a lot of hints as the president talked as the officials talked you noted that they all seem to praise the president's leadership a lot of this seems to have to do with the fact that the president well he was traveling in india was getting a lot of criticism about his handling of the crisis so far that perhaps there were a lot of people that felt they were in the dark in terms of public health information that they weren't sure that the resorts had been allocated so every speaker that went up continued to kind of talk about and praise the president while
3:07 am
also talking about the sort of necessary public health information and you also heard there kind of an. intentional effort to keep the public calm and i think that the other aspect in all of this is that there was a growing sense of alarm among americans the absence of information and so we heard repeatedly officials saying that in fact the risk remained low but buried in all of that is the question of money how is all of this going to be paid for the president again deflecting some of the criticisms they used maybe not ask for enough money but has said that if congress decides to give more than the 2500000000 he would be interested in that as well take a listen to what he had to say. we have very good bipartisan spirit for money we were asking for 2 and a half 1000000000 and we think that's. a lot but the democrats and i guess senator schumer wants us to have much more than that and
3:08 am
normally in life i say we'll take it we'll take it. if they want to give more we'll do more we're going to spend whatever is appropriate hopefully we're not going to have to spend so much because we really think we've done a great job in keeping it down to a minimum and probably so trump and his team says look you know america's ready for this virus but i mean this all comes at a very sensitive time politically doesn't it i mean we have the start of the primaries we have a presidential election in november is that likely to be any kind of political impact here at this very sensitive time. there's no question because even as the officials on the one hand were saying no sent there are needed for panic no reason for alarm they would follow that up immediately with having said that we expect that more cases are going to to occur in the united states that's not going to reassure the public and even if that is the reality that is continuing and will continue to cause exactly in the united states they also said that it's time for
3:09 am
businesses for schools for other sort of public health officials or just public officials in general to be taking into account prepared this pandemic was the word that was used at one point so a well they're trying to calm sort of the sense of alarm this is going to have an impact we've already seen this with the stock market level and they're already i can tell you in the american public at large questions about whether or not people should attend major sporting events whether or not they should travel people are considering canceling their travel plans so whether this has an impact say on the general election campaign rallies is still not clear but i can tell you from sort of the at the grassroots level that already the ordinary american is deciding in the absence of any sort of direction from officials at the federal government the local level even the city level many are starting to make those adaptations on their own or it's a committee held at the white house complete for the time being thank you well

decades in power brought relative stability but also economic stagnation and repression it's quite a lot of pomp and circumstance when you when you really stop and think about it for a man who only 9 years ago was ousted by a popular revolt and then a year later sentenced to life in prison we forget for ordering the killing of hundreds of protesters he was openly mocked and ridiculed. in egyptian society and egyptian media hated by millions of egyptians all we've seen over these last few years is a counter revolution in egypt they've reframed the narrative around the january 25th revolution and now they're honoring the man who was who was ousted it's really quite the change of circumstance. mubarak's rule. invites uncomfortable comparisons with the egypt of today under another former military officer who rose to be
