on al-jazeera. when will you order the order. 0. hello i'm maryam namazie a watching the news hour live from london coming up in the next 60 minutes or it is businesses and schools closed around the world as tens of millions more people of placed under lockdown to curb the coronavirus pandemic. has more makeshift hospitals as its death toll jumps by another 345. trump administration says it wants to send checks to americans giving them cash to spend it during the coronavirus crisis. and the way for postpones

the 02020 football championship which had been due to take place across the continent. hello welcome to the program our top story restrictions around the world becoming will severe as countries step up their efforts to halt the spread of the coronavirus iran has issued one of the most dire warnings so far saying millions could die if they continue to ignore advice and move around the country malaysia has imposed some of the toughest restrictions seen in asia or outside of china by closing its borders and clamping down on movements all this on the same day it recorded its 1st death and then france has entered a nationwide lockdown as well thousands of police are on the streets to find people if they can't prove that buying food or going to work and the euro 2020 football tournament which was due to be held in 12 different cities across europe has now been put back by a year as paul brennan begins our coverage with

a look at the situation in europe. as the noon deadline passed the normally bustling shaun's elisei was almost deserted the famous shops and pavement cafes of paris shuttered by orders of the french president only essential movement is allowed now and non-essential activity is being punished with a fine of more than $50.00 across france $100000.00 extra police are enforcing a lockdown which extends beyond the streets and into the home of every citizen but we do need. to give you some examples a family lunch dinner with friends a football game with friends a game of cards all of that which might not normally seem important is now off the beaten not just discouraged but for the little let's not downplay it each one of those meetings is a moment when the virus can be transmitted. the northern italian city of breast is in lumber the epicenter of europe's covert 1000 outbreak the grave concern across europe stems from the hard lessons being learned here. what
9:03 pm
is really shocking something we have not been able to call cost and brought us to our knees is how quickly the epidemic spreads within 2 weeks now 3 weeks since the beginning of the epidemic we put a total of 1200 patients in mumblety in intensive care as we speak we have over 850 patients with coronavirus diseases in intensive therapy. and so the freedom of movement enjoyed by europeans for decades has abruptly ended this was the traffic jam at the franco swiss border a 4 hour queue affecting even essential workers like this nurse the bus journeys at dawn. our patients are waiting for us our colleagues are also waiting for us these are still human beings they are in their beds there waiting for blood tests they're waiting for us to feed them and here we go we're stuck. national borders are being slammed shut or very tightly controlled on the spain portugal border portuguese
9:04 pm
citizen silva was one of many turned back by spanish police a lot of this it was it is a lot to live for maybe it is wrong because we live in france now we have a family there we have health problems we have appointments with doctors we've specialised i lose everything here in portugal we do you know even have a family doctor. the u.k. is poised to follow the rest of europe's example by this weekend people have been urged to avoid bars restaurants and leisure venues and work from home where possible the government is now offering 400000000000 dollars of loan guarantees to support affected businesses and the prime minister has appealed for national unity yes this enemy can be deadly. but it is also beatable and we know how to beat it and we know that if as a country we follow the scientific advice that is no being given we know that we will beat but the prospect of
9:05 pm
a compulsory lockdown is looming but we work in london for 40 years and see this is shocking to me it's like one of those. movies you know to me i'm concerned it's only with more than 2000 coronavirus deaths is the worst affected country outside of china and with more than 3000 new infections in italy every day the burden on hospital capacity is almost overwhelming but the rate of infection has slowed slightly in the lumber the region epicenter of the country's outbreak there at least there is a fantasy glimmer that the quarantine measures are starting to show results brennan al-jazeera the number of deaths being reported are still spiralling in many countries despite tough measures being taken in italy another $345.00 people have died in the past 24 hours taking the total death toll there to more than 2 and a half 1000 and more than 31000 confirmed cases the death toll in spain has reached
9:06 pm
491 after jumping by 182 in one day it now has more than 11000 confirmed cases and the virus has killed another 135 people in iran raising its death toll to 988 and more than 16000 confirmed cases we'll see mcgurk to is a journalist based in rome she joins me now via skype so speaking there about italy another 300 new deaths have been confirmed in the country can you describe to us the impact the virus is having on people's lives. well here in rome for example but throughout the country really we're all in look down and that means you need very specific reasons to be moving around and the whole idea behind this is to slow the spread of the virus we're seeing these immense numbers particularly from that class to our north but the rest of the country everyone is trying to do the apostle and
9:07 pm
that means if you go out you need to have a self declaration form and you need to fill it in to say whether you're muvico reasons of work with the of a health situation or you're going to carry on sensual activity and that means either shopping for groceries going to the pharmacy or perhaps even picking up the newspaper because you stand so still open people need to be informed that is considered an essential activity so most people for the most part are greta that that said they've seen some 8000 violations of these lockdown damages in the last 8 days or so that we've had the lockdown i think initially there was some confusion as to what people could do a couldn't do a lot of people frustrated that they cannot get to be a loved ones but i think most italians understand this is really the only measure they can take and so solidarity really is the buzzword for most people can even though they're stuck in i mean interesting about that you mention the violation the violations of the law counting is indication from authorities that perhaps this is
9:08 pm
the reason the virus continues to spread or is it just too early to say because what we're dealing with with something new. frankly you have to put the figure into context of 8000 violations of a population of 60000000 people and the reason why we're seeing these immense numbers is too full one is that as the prime minister to set the context said the infections that you see now a result of infections that took place before those lockdown measures were put in place in fact he said these measures were only going to see the impact in a couple of weeks and in fact the authorities and the scientists have sit the next week or so is very critical and it's important that everyone agrees to these measures italy is nowhere near its peak in terms of the number of infections so that's why we're seeing the 2nd reason we're seeing these high deaths is because this infection affects in particular the elderly and it's really unfortunately or
9:09 pm
fortunately which way you look at it but for this virus italy has one of the oldest populations in the world more than about a quarter of the population is over the age of $65.00 i know that you're obviously in the capital room but what can you tell us about the region of long by barack obama as a hot spot that this is where there's been a great concentration or a cluster of cases how are hospitals how are doctors coping. the truth is we're really we're hearing extremely dire stories particularly in the province a bit more and the town a bit more we have doctors there talking about them getting 7 that missions into i.c.u. daily they are running at 200 percent capacity they've run out of beds they've run out of i.c.u. equipment and that is parliamentary respirators that are very crucial for that kind of treatment as this is a respiratory illness it's obvious that that's the equipment that they need what they're doing in long bodies moving at the patients patients that are in i.c.u. in the tents of care but have nothing to do with coronavirus they are being moved
9:10 pm
out slowly to other regions of italy but that said we're hearing stories about more trees that are absolutely full funeral workers that are getting infected with 19 because they are in contact with the bodies of those that are infected and family members that cannot even say goodbye to the loved ones because they're not allowed for the risk of infection so it's these dire stories that italians are reading and listening to and perhaps that is the motivation why most people are adhering to these lockdown marriages because days concerned about the impact that this is going to have not unknown on the on their lives the lives of their loved ones but of course the impact on the health system as a whole as it becomes overwhelmed by these cases of covert monte thank you very much samak up to iran. there is an owner i'm in western france and has a situation there is changed dramatically in the past few days. a few days ago
9:11 pm
people were a still out of out walking enjoying some sunshine or even voting of course in the 1st round of the local elections which are held on sunday you know a few days later here we are in lockdown announced on monday nights by the french presence in iraq or which means everybody's been told by the french government stay in your homes you can only go outside if it's the something necessary grocery shopping if you work in an essential need to strain you call work from home such as a health worker all for a little bit of exercise but otherwise you're not allowed to cross anyone in the street to talk to them you have to stay away from everybody confiscate friends and family so much more restricted living on top of that we've heard from france's transport minister that the few trains and buses that were running are becoming restricted cautious services have stopped and i have to say i was able to move around where i am because we still allowed to report little bit in our areas and it's eerily quiet out there i mean all the homes are closed you don't see
9:12 pm
a car you can really tell the difference this is a country where people i think of really realize we have to obey what the government is saying in order for this coronavirus to stop spreading i think there's a real sort of wake up will consent to consciousness about the situation people are staying at home they are standing in mr apart in supermarket queues and they certainly weren't doing us a few days ago but i think the message is getting home and the government will probably be a quite pleased about. let's meet and barca now following this story very closely we're just getting a sense of the devastating impact this is having on people's lives in places like italy and france but there is also not a fair about the economic damage and we've had today and outspent from a number of european countries about packages to support the economy that's right leader after leader has been repeating the same thing that this is not just a health crisis it's a political one as a social one and it's an economic one as well the absence of workers business is
9:13 pm
obviously has a knock on effect on how those businesses can function. the closure of schools across the continent also means that people have to stay at home to look after their children again having a knock on effect to businesses as well so how are countries trying to insulate those small medium enterprises and even large companies from the economic shocks of the coronavirus well in short by pumping billions of dollars into the economies in terms of short term loans long term interest free loans the u.k. only a short while ago announced measures that include a $400000000000.00 being available to companies similar situation in the netherlands billions of dollars being promised there and pedro sanchez the prime minister of spain announcing a 219000000000 dollars package to mitigate the impact of the virus that is 20 percent of spain's entire g.d.p. most of that money comes coming from the government also private enterprises being
9:14 pm
brought on side to help shore up the economy there but i suppose that's to be some exceptions that despite this intervention by governments by central banks unfortunately already seeing stories of it just anecdotally of businesses that are really suffering from a lack of demand as people are being told to stay off the streets there will be some pain and there will be some businesses that end up closing down yet it's not just anecdotally anymore what we're seeing are some hard figures coming out of ireland for instance. reports of 140000 people have been lost their jobs since friday most of them in hospitality so bars restaurants theaters clubs. they ordinarily figures of that size and scale would be a huge story in their own right now it's part of a growing story is a detail in what is the overall impact of the coronavirus across europe of the world thank you need well in iran the government there is
9:15 pm
a shoot its most dire warning yet about the outbreak suggesting millions could die if the public keeps ignoring health guidance start warning came from a journalist on state t.v. who urged the public to adhere to travel restrictions on is also temporarily freed some $85000.00 prisoners in response to the pandemic including the british iranian . needs a guy wracked with on monday crowds of conservative iranians stormed 2 major shrines and been closed due to the virus they must ravi is into iran forcing explains why iranians haven't been listening to official warnings. this is really something that the government has been struggling with since the beginning iranians are so frustrated with their economic circumstances so frustrated with experiencing one crisis after another that when it comes to following the government's guidance regarding the coronavirus the government simply hasn't been able to get everybody on board and it has to be said slowly but surely you can tell the difference there
9:16 pm
are fewer iranians that are out on the streets there are more people that are following the government guidelines but this idea that millions of people could be impacted as we saw the news reader on state t.v. say earlier today this is part of the kind of fear that government officials have been trying to instill in people of the consequences of not following through is this fact or fiction well we don't really have any health official or government official quoted here are standing behind this but medically speaking if you follow the epidemiology if the government is not able to get ahold of the spread of the virus throughout the country it could become a hot zone it could become a long term area of risk in which case there there is a chance it could affect millions of people well a difficult few days on the well stock markets that have been some improvements possibly starting in the u.s. the dow jones opened up around 2 percent and the since then been mostly improving in london the footsie $100.00 end of the day stronger up nearly 3 percent after a 4 percent drop on monday and in asia hong kong's hang seng closed up the best pos
9:17 pm
of one percent japan's nikkei also finished marginally in positive territory so let's get the latest from christensen i mean what is the feeling there particularly after these announcement from governments in europe but also there in the u.s. seems as though. they are willing to step in and perhaps help individuals and businesses that could suffer from this pandemic. yeah i think the markets are finding that at least somewhat reassuring we're looking at the dow jones industrial average now more than 4 percent so it's recovered about a 3rd of yesterday's dramatic losses still lots of volatility lots of uncertainty there but certainly the coronavirus task force and washington spoke not too long ago and talked a little bit more about what steps they'd be taking to help the and a commie talked about an 850 $1000000000.00 stimulus package cash payments to individual americans who may be suffering from not being able to work deferred
9:18 pm
tax payments for individuals and businesses to keep cash flow moving in these tough economic times more fed action was announced today in terms of short term loans that's another attempt to keep cash flow in liquidity for businesses so all of that i think is somewhat reassuring to investors but you've still got major industries suffering the airline industry stocks are still down energy oil prices remain down hotels chains are also continuing to suffer we're hearing about marriott hotel chain having to furlough tens of thousands of employees so there's still a lot of uncertainty a lot of concern moving forward the administration did say that it will support the industries that are hardest hit as well they've been saying that for some time still waiting for details on that we know now that airlines are looking for some $50000000000.00 in assistance that would be unprecedented more than they received
9:19 pm
after $911.00 so those industries are still very uncertain and still trading lower but overall much calmer today. but again very uncertain looking forward because we still have this real possibility of global recession which the president himself has now acknowledged moving forward amid this epidemic pandemic thank you very much kristen questions. me in new york well the global aviation industry trade body said the airlines could need up to $200000000000.00 of help from governments as well the international air transport association said companies are running out of money and decisive action is what's needed european airlines called on governments to let them defer tax payments as demand for travel has slumped singapore airlines and emirates were among the airlines who cut wolf flights on tuesday. or perhaps in a different. better economic news the surge in online orders you to the pandemic means that amazon is going on a hiring spree online retail giant says it will hire $100000.00 warehouse and
9:20 pm
delivery workers in the u.s. to deal with more orders as consumers move more of their shopping online many have been panic buying with shop as a clearing supermarket shelves of the fears of product shortages and then the u.s. government is considering sending checks to americans so that they have cash to spend during the coronavirus crisis it's also increased the amount of tax payments that can be deferred let's get more on this from our white house correspondent can really help it and so really when you look at the entirety of the response and just the sheer amount of stimulus that could be required to fight this we could be looking at the largest rescue package in recent history. yeah this thing is really morphing in scale and scope it started out small it was passed as a piece of legislation in the house of representatives initially that really addressed things like unemployment insurance emergency food assistance for children and the elderly it since has moved to the u.s.
9:21 pm
senate controlled by republicans and the white house has taken advantage of that to pad this legislation if you will to encompass some rescue packages for some major industries here in the united states we've been talking about the airlines that's one of them also the hotels as this administration underscored that they're really looking to flood the u.s. economy with cash help people that are hurting the other aspect of this you also touched on is the sort of tax deferred payments april 15th is typically the day that americans are due to file their taxes and if they owe money now they will not be paying interest on that if those payments to the government are not made right away all in all this administration saying they're trying to go big in order to help the suffering if we do this right a country and the world frankly but our country can be rolling again pretty quickly pretty quickly. we have to fight that invisible enemy because.
9:22 pm
i guess unknown but we're getting to know to let better today the senate is taking up coronavirus legislation that includes free testing for those who need it as well as paid sick leave and family medical leave for work is affected by the virus. but this is also a public health emergency not just an economic one and the u.s. president acknowledging as he briefed reporters today that one of the hard hit states new york there now sound stand by the army corps of engineers potentially constructing to build for additional hospital capacity to increase the number of beds and to some painting that the united states could still be gripped could soon be gripping with a crisis that we are seeing on the scale of italy they're hoping that that will not be the case that's why they say the next 2 weeks are critical they're also urging young americans who tend to not typically show evidence of coronavirus to remind them that they can carry it in fact to their loved ones who are particularly
9:23 pm
vulnerable so again they're sending out the public health message as they also offer reassurance to the economic impacts of the coronavirus here in the united states thank you very much from the white house can really help get. the states of new jersey has suffered 3 deaths and now has 267 coronavirus cases gabriel is on though isn't just the city across the river from new york west straits local measures are in place. yeah it's really a huge impact here in this entire state of new jersey and new york i'll get to new york in a 2nd but we're here in jersey city a city of about 250000 people and we're alone this promenade here that on a normal lunchtime would be packed with people workers that are coming out to eat their lunch outside on this promenade that you see behind me there as you can see less than 10 people there right now why because all of those office buildings you see there are pretty much empty right now as everyone has been asked to leave and
9:24 pm
go work from home that has been the from the governor of of the state of new jersey so you just see it's very very quiet here as it is in much of the cities such as this but it's really the epicenter here in the state of new york and new jersey new jersey has 178 cases of corona virus one of a 5 year old that just came in today but just give you an idea how fast that it has happened here in new jersey 11 days ago the state of new jersey only had one case today 178 so it's growing so fast let's get to new york the behind me there you see midtown manhattan that you see behind me there that's new york city new york city 463 cases of coronavirus in the state of new york 950 so what you're seeing here is what we saw as the governors of both states both new jersey and new york got together on monday they both are upset with what they say is
9:25 pm
a slow response from the federal government in washington and so they got together and they said to unilateral action to say both new jersey and new york are going to be going on to what they say all restaurants closed here in both states bars closed as well and they're telling people to stay home stay home do not go outside in fact a neighboring town of hoboken just a couple. miles of matters right about right now they're actually issued a curfew no one could go out from 8 pm until the early morning hours so they're hoping to get this contained here but the worst is certainly ahead according to both governors of these states. 3 u.s. states holding democratic primaries on tuesday despite health officials encouraging people to stay at home a high opa spode its vote polling stations have opened in florida illinois and arizona electoral officials say they've done enough to safeguard the health of
9:26 pm
votes has any sound isn't joe biden off fighting for the party's nomination to take on donald trump in november john hendren joins me live now from chicago so 3 states are forging ahead with their primaries what's turnout like to be then in light of everything else that's happening. well here in illinois turnout has been extraordinarily low they've had real problems with getting people to the polls however it was extraordinarily high when it comes to mail in ballots they actually broke a record set during world war 2 in terms of the number of people who voted through mail that has been increasing over the years but there was a real fight here in illinois as to whether they should actually hold this election ohio at the last minute literally less than 24 hours ahead of today's primary decided not to do that that happened after the governor 1st asked for the courts to respond by closing down their elections and then that court said no the election
9:27 pm
should go forward and then the state decided that on health reasons the health minister decided to shut down the elections in the state of ohio that state is run by republican mike de wine republicans seem to be happier with the democratic nomination process dragging out a little bit that means the democrats still fight it out joe biden bernie sanders for longer that means they can have a nominee and that means they won't begin attacking donald trump in the general election well here in the state of illinois the governor is a democrat j.b. pritzker he said the election should go forward that cause some severe problems here in the city of chicago where it was hard to abide by those centers for disease control rules requiring gatherings of no more than 10 people so election officials actually had to relocate about 10 percent of the polling centers here in the city of chicago because they were located in elderly centers and of course the elderly
9:28 pm
are particularly vulnerable to the coronavirus and then a number of other stations were unable to open up because the election judges who are volunteers had bailed out saying they're not going to come after all so some places have had to go to john or just as he does like 2 other place just just click a because of that you know you say this as you got a lot of mail ballots coming in you had joe biden ringing managing to pull ahead of any sound as he'll be looking to cement that if he wins by a big margin is this the end of the process for the democrats. well numerically that can't happen today there were only $577.00 pledged delegates to be doled out from the 4 states and that was before ohio pulled its $136.00 pledged delegates so numerically nobody can win this nomination today on tuesday however joe biden has the momentum and the hope was from the democratic establishment that backed him that biden would be able to surge forward that he would have enough of
9:29 pm
a sense of inevitability that perhaps even bernie sanders would bail out people were calling it bernie sanders last stand but in a sense this might be the best thing that could have happened to joe biden a tragic event no doubt but people here many of the people we've talked to say they're looking for as safe candidate and establishment candidate they don't want to take a risk with bernie sanders at a time like this this is after all a time when president trump had the strongest thing going for him the economy is now possibly his achilles' heel there's lots of talk about a recession and so all of that analysts suggest goes to help joe biden in this case but in fact we don't know and and we don't know what the low turnout on this election day could mean for all that and whether people who have largely already voted in those mail in ballots thank you from chicago john hendren. you're watching the news out live from london more still ahead we'll look at why malaysia's announcement that it's seeing its borders spawns panic buying and. that may bring
9:30 pm
it singapore same thing. iraq's president names and new prime minister designate can he break months of political deadlock that story and more coming up after the break. hello the winds are coming up again throughout the arabian peninsula and eventually levant and iran and you see the clouds over turkey is developing storm here so the picture on wednesday is the increasing likelihood of shows rain mostly for the lebanese coast israel and more officially in syria of course the high ground that being snow the winds further south of war directions but the empty quarter means dust up towards riyadh bahrain qatar for example and then this brisk wind i think in northern side you've also got potential to pick up the sand even produce
9:31 pm
sandstorms which is like to be an enhanced risk in northern egypt and again those in saudi in jordan during services still showers on the coast of lebanon still showers in northern syria still some snow showers up in turkey but iraq's dry by this time so should iran be and for the south the wind has lightened their hands at 29 degrees both of those off because going back into that regime around the coast you go no i'm sure breeze massive cloud here now that's actually coming out of the interior says warm air that's coming out about syria but around the coast it's an on shore breeze come wednesday that means temp is at least on the low twenty's not one high teens. similar sort of story if anything the breeze is cooling down in cairo and us one. full of struggles with it on one on one with not only that i mean all along all the

time walking up on the full of pleasure because i don't mind i'm getting where's the spirit of i don't know you but i'm not going to an intimate look at life in cuba today as it was on one of our guns that i had done you more than you know i've got a bunch of money cuba on al-jazeera. the shocking treatment of disabled people in eastern european state run caverns in these cages you can not have access to a toilet or water and the bureaucratic indifference to their plight she has his hands and his fates tied to the beds 5 years off to fast highlighting such abuses people in power returns with a 2 part investigation to continuing mistreatment and neglect europe's recurring shame hard to on al-jazeera. the you.

will. welcome back a look at the headlines now more countries are going into lockdown as restrictions imposed to curb the spread of the coronavirus become more extreme francis sealed its borders just as its neighbor spain reported 2000 new cases iran state television has issued its most drastic warning so far saying the coronavirus could kill millions of people if they keep ignoring health guidance it's also temporarily freed about 85000 prisoners including the british iranian aid work and us needs akari right click. on the u.s. government is considering sending relief checks directly to americans and deferring tax payments to help mitigate the economic impact of the corona virus outbreak the u.s. has over 4000 cases and 71 deaths. money

is a senior fellow at the center for international governance and innovation she joins us via skype from waterloo canada and before we look at how the trump administration and other governments around the world are responding to the crown of ours pandemic i want to ask you about the impact it will have with stock markets in steep decline sporting events being cancelled businesses being forced to close how deep and how prolonged recession are we talking about here. well technically the idea of a recession should negative quarter growth periods and i think we're headed for one of those negative growth periods too you don't know but nevertheless this is unprecedented times frankly every sector is a pact and a structure this really is a colossal challenge for governments for individuals for families and more so this is really a very big deal it's just it's not a fact. one sector we're never been in a situation where the global economy is not just impacted from one country or one
9:35 pm
crisis it's sort of multiple crises all playing out at once and frankly it's a time for coordination and the political challenge here on top of that as every country is sort of standing for themselves there is a populist nationalist surge locally in many countries do feel the impulse to protect themselves and themselves only so it really unfortunately bred the very worst though in government sometimes and that raises a really interesting point doesn't it because everyone is taking unilateral action but that's not how the global economy works it's not how business works it's not how supply chains work how effective are these measures going to be on a national level if you don't have coordination between countries. coordination is key of course you know we've spent the past 20 years globalizing our economy in every sense of the word you know supply chains have become so incredibly transnational lives over the years that you just can't imagine the ripple effect that this is causing that's just on a global scale when you take that to
9:36 pm
a national economy the fact that you have consumption all come to a halt means that everybody every business every individual is no longer earning income governments are going to be asked to step in to help supply needed cash transfers that's exactly what the trumpet ministration has announced which was a good thing but again that kind of stimulus is not easy for every country and it's going to be very hard economically on the national budgets for some time to come right so if we're talking about just some of the biggest stimulus packages we have seen in modern history can countries afford this what has it got one of the ramifications of injecting this kind of cash into the economy for you know afterwards when when things start to resolve or ease. yeah look i mean i think that you know no cough or of any. national government is able to really provide all that is being asked for but some countries are certainly better than others and
9:37 pm
there are a whole host of developing countries which are sometimes the most vulnerable in terms of public health that are going to be an enormous i think crisis situation soon when it comes to that of course to start off in china and moved on to some of the more developed countries and so many of the developed countries have a little more question of course china is a very rich country despite having an enormous population and still technically a developing country it's still quite wealthy as a state so you know we're going to see i think i think we're going to see many countries down the line who are not able to cope as well as perhaps some of us in the west are but that's not to say things are going to be easy here we are facing an enormous challenge every scale this is a society that frankly runs on consumption on spending and everything has come to a halt and that is going to be people's paycheck at the end of the day that's going to be factories that's going to be supply chains all of that is negatively affected and sold at the impact is frankly still to be seen but i have no short i have no word other than so catastrophic because that's really what it means for the economy
9:38 pm
yet very difficult to predict or trying to say what's going to happen here thank you best man want more money thank you for that. or lasers rolled out some of the most drastic restriction seen across asia to stop the spread of the virus its borders are now close to terrorists and malaysians themselves can't leave for 2 weeks the country has more cases than anywhere else in southeast asia but as concerned about undetected cases in the region as well jessica washington reports from jakarta. daily life is changing in malaysia with corona virus cases soaring in southeast asia the government is introducing drastic measures closing its borders almost entirely no locals can get out and no foreigners can get a. quarantine for those who just returned they need to do a health check and a self quarantine for 14 days they'll be restrictions on the entry of tourists and

region is stepping up measures to contain the virus there in argentina more than 60 people have been infected and 2 have died to raise about joins us live from argentina's capital plan is ours 1st of all what is the situation in the country. while american governments in general are taking measures to prevent the spread of the virus shutting down borders canceling flights and now for example suspending long distance buses there's like a long long weekend coming here in argentina and the government is making sure that people do not leave the areas where they're leave there's even talk that the military could take to the streets in order to control people from moving from one place or another or preventing them for example to get to getting to areas close to the beach the governmental fedotov and imus is taking this very seriously because of the impact that a coronavirus the increase of corner virus in the country could have in argentina public health care system that even though it's a pretty strong one argentina has

a universal health care system that attends people for free foreigners etc but something like this could put extreme pressure on the public health care system in this country that is also undergoing right now and economic crisis without restructuring foreign debt inflation recession loss of jobs among other things and that's why the government awful lot of the phenomena is taking extreme measures to prevent the spread of the virus. by may 2nd i received returned from a trip to the united states who we could go and since then she has been inquiring time with her husband and 3 children. she lives in a about 60 kilometers away from we decided. and has had no symptoms of covert 90 yet we were able to talk to her over the phone from outside her holy. bible to help us and bring us food things we need and leave it the door we never had time to

in italy here. almost 300 foreigners that did not want to remain inquire in time were deported by the authorities in the past few days they were picked up in their hotels and taken to the airport by the police don't know who's in the muslim precedent out of the farm and the says government measures will likely increase in the next few days and implement their. we're analyzing the recommendations of the world health organization and they say we need to take drastic measures to prevent the dissemination of the virus. yes measures that for now most argentines appear to agree with. now we're also hearing that venezuela's government venezuela's government made a formal request to the i.m.f. for $5000000000.00 to boost its health system i mean this is really important it's a country already suffering in so many ways from economic and humanitarian crisis and it's not clear if they're going to be able to get this money. well
9:45 pm
that's correct i mean president obama has already saying that the real crisis begins now because of the current situation in the country vehicle one only crisis but also the humanitarian crisis most hospitals in venezuela for example 80 percent of them do not have running water there is no soul there is no hand sanitizers there is not enough medicine so the impact that the coronavirus could have in a country like venezuela at this point is humongous and that's why the president appeared on television wearing a mask showing people how to wear a mask in spite of the world health organization is saying that people should wear a mask at all times they should only wear it if they're sick or they're caring for someone so the government has made an official request to the international monetary fund will have to see what the funds response will be last year they already suspended a payment of around $400000000.00 it was because of drawing rights while that was suspended because of the political crisis in that country and let's not forget also

of the role that the united states plays in the i.m.f. it has played a crucial role for example in helping a country like argentina get its own loan and well it could also play a big role in suspending any type of pavement to venezuela right now so we'll have to see this whole situation is put in latin american countries. extremely tense situations because many of these countries just like venezuela just like virgil a ready going through very challenging social and economic situations thank you from one is ours to raise about. for once gaza's isolation appears to be working in its favor it's yet to report any coronavirus infections unlike the occupied west bank where the number of cases now stands at 39. reports its health authorities are preparing for the worst. o. cut off from the world for years under strict israeli military control people in gaza are used to being isolated and their movements restricted south korean teen
