people filing new unemployment claims in the past 4 weeks 6600000 just this past week that adds up to an unemployment rate of 12 to 13 percent that's the official rate those are people who are filing it doesn't include people who have been on unemployment for a long time these are all new people by and large affected by the closure of so many businesses that have been deemed non-essential during this period in which nearly all of the country is on lockdown it's happened so quickly that many of those people who've been unemployed have not perhaps most have not received those checks that they've been waiting for and of course most working class people here in the united states and elsewhere live paycheck to paycheck i'm going to a list of just some of the industries that were affected in one state just happens to be a state i looked up texas among the industries that have been newly affected here are food services manufacturing mining agriculture forestry health care waste
