1:06 am
you know i follow these figures on a daily basis there are several institutions and agencies that fall these and the one with the least amount of numbers 40100 the other ones say about 41000 in total so however you look at this it's pretty heartbreaking to see this number of deaths far out spawning any other country at the moment but there is this increased pressure on governors across this country to get their economies going again you know a lot of conservatives here believe that the cure is worse than the disease itself we've seen a growing number of protests in almost all the states with people gathering outside state capitals asking for the economy to get going again but many of the worst hit states there governors both republican and democrat are saying to the president it's not time yet we don't have enough testing we're simply not ready to roll back these cautionary measures and reopen the economy again so we're really facing a delicate balancing act here meanwhile president trump is tweeting out that states

led by democratic governors should be liberated the governor of washington state that she's saying he was potentially inciting violence so the president clearly has his own agenda here he watches the stock market that is in many ways the ace up his sleeve for the reelection in november when the presidential election happens but this is a very delicate balance whatever decisions the governors of each of these states make now could potentially have catastrophic consequences if they're not made in the right way using the data available. to their governors into the hardest hit states appear to be pushing back quite strongly against trunk pressuring them to reopen. yeah in particular on drew crum of the governor of new york another new yorker just like president trump and he's been getting. all of his press conferences a broadcast on a daily basis so there may be a sense of competition there but he is in the epicenter where at the peak of it

there were 700 deaths in one day that's now dropped to 500 still a horrific number for that state and he's saying look we're not even at half time yet this is not game over we do still need support from the federal government in fact i watched the press conference this morning he said the state of new york has 15000000000 dollars in debt and will need federal help to pay for schools and hospitals and keep them open so they are still very much in crisis mode there is no sign in new york of any kind of reopening of the economy no matter what the pressure is because as i said before these decisions literally have very very serious consequences and again i thank you very much indeed. in japan the number of coronavirus cases has doubled in just 10 days as a new wave of infections threatens to overwhelm hospitals 568 new cases have been confirmed bringing the total number to more than 11174 people have died from the disease but the state of emergency expanded nationwide on thursday the actual

people who are in quarantine from corner virus japan is exactly the opposite story of south korea at the height of the outbreak earlier this year they had managed to avoid any kind of major infection rates but now japan's infection rates are just surging and soaring and part of the reason for this is said to be the fact that they haven't been extensively testing people also japan's hospitals are said to be on the brink of collapse there's not enough ice units nodded off bed and beds more worryingly there's just not enough ventilators now that's what you need in the later stages of coronavirus also health workers are complaining that they don't have enough protective gear and the japanese government has said they will start providing all of this that extended the state of emergency across the country but the problem is because of japan's constitution they cannot and force those measures so people aren't social distancing enough despise government warnings particularly

due to the culture where people are still going to work and are not working from home. russia's president has used his easter sunday message to reassure the nation the corona virus outbreak is under full control despite a record daily rise in new cases seated in front of a roaring fire with easter eggs traditional sweet bread and a big part of teenagers to him but it may put an assistant russia has everything it needs to tackle the virus. it clear to work. we have everything a strong healthy economy scientific capabilities the necessary material and professional foundation in the health care system when you've left. all levels of government are working methodically smoothly and responsibly the situation is under complete control all our society is pulling together in front of a common threat when ma russia has reported more than 6000 coronavirus cases over

the past 24 hours it takes the country's total to more than $42000.00 its official total of $321.00 deaths is relatively low compared to other countries but concerns about russia's ability to deal with the outbreak linger with reports from local officials of a lack of hospital beds and supplies. or still to come this half hour the venezuelan migrants risking their lives to help colombians survive the trend of virus and emic. and dozens missing and thousands displaced to flash floods sweep through parts of western kenya. out of that is some pretty bouncy shows on the coast of queensland just north of britons but you can see them there going off shore there are more in the forecast but there to be that many and then you just look science again it's the season when

come on our top stories as area the u.k. government has rejected accusations it was complacent and botched its handling of the pandemic the sunday times newspaper says prime minister boris johnson missed several early emergency meetings. the number of people killed by the coronavirus in the united states is now more than 40000 as highest number at. in any country a nearly double batch of the next deadliest outbreak in a tourney. but in more positive news south korea reported just 8 new cases in the past day is the 1st time its daily increase has been a single digits more than 2 months. breaking news from canada now and more than 10 people have been killed in a shooting in a remote parts of eastern canada a police say a 51 year old male suspect is dead after the attack in the small coastal town of port of pekin nova scotia a mass shooting is relatively rare in canada which has tighter gun control laws

than the neighboring united states or joins us now donna what more can you tell us about the details of this incident. well we just heard from the police a very devastated senior police officer looking completely shocked by what had happened not least because among the 10 people at least 10 people known to have been killed was a senior police constable 23 year veteran of the force but giving very few details at this moment we do know that this began before midnight local time on saturday night and basically went on throughout the night it took place over nearly a 100 kilometers of highway it appears that the gunman the assailant stopped at communities along the way it looks like some of the victims are scattered along the highway again the police are giving very few details because they say there are multiple crime scenes probably one of the larger crime investigations they've ever

seen in that part of the world they do confirm as you said that the suspect a 51 year old man from the provincial capital from the north scotia capital our facts is dead i witness reports and some local media say he was seen lying next to a vehicle at some petrol pumps possibly after an exchange of gunfire with heavily armed police officers in the area police themselves wouldn't confirm that it's a very puzzling crime it appears that this person was was driving a fake police car at one point he was dressed as a police officer he did have a connection to puerto pick where the shootings began he owned a property there but he was based in the capital there's absolutely no clue yet as to motive or what may have been going on here and how rare is an instant missing canada. extremely rare in the navy united states every couple of days it seems there is a mass shooting war or a firearms incident that affects numbers of people very rare in canada you can go

by without something on this scale in fact something on this scale is probably an event of decades we have very tight gun laws in canada quite a few guns because in the rural areas people do go out and hunt and things like that target shoot but it's very difficult to carry firearms around and handguns are quite rare automatic weapons and assault rifles are quite rare so people are hugely shocked in this very quiet part of the of the country where many right retirees have settled and people are living by the ocean it's quite a pleasant area it's really really difficult to discern what happened here and we hope that in the coming days police will be able to release some of the information they're gathering at those crime scenes along the highway where this took place that a lack of a place is there thank you very much indeed at least 4 people have died and more than 20 others are missing after heavy rain caused flash floods and landslides in western kenya the missing include police officers who were on

more they could do and do together to develop locally tailored testing strategies working very hard with governors now on testing where help them out before the call will send them a full list of all of the large laboratory machines in the states they have a lot of machinery in the states that some are that aware of but they they're really high quality machines by the way and the potential capacity of those machines if they're fully utilize a couple of them didn't know that they could be utilized in a different manner they were only up to 10 percent and they could go 90 percent more. many governors are still relying on their state laboratories rather than the full and much larger capacity that is available to them as an example commercial 'd laboratories such as qwest and lab corps these are massive laboratories that can handle a lot more than they're being sent a few days ago is at 30 percent they're only at 30 percent capacity now i don't

reminds you of this. once a swab once a q-tip it's actually different. it's very sophisticated actually but it's a little bit like so this is the strong. and. what are a lot of them they have a lot of them some of them some of the states where they were shipped to states and the states don't know where they are. and but that's that's it. where do we give this to karen for have to take an extra. life but this is a big deal. and we're working on it and we're working with the companies and i think in the end we're going to have we're going to have a drug we're going to have a tremendous.
