forgiven for leaving the prince was fortunate our. democratic presidential hopeful joe biden condemns donald trump's handling of the police brutality protests described as baffling and reprehensible president trump's visit to a catholic shrine draws even more criticism. and global calls for justice for jordan for wage growth and sympathy and solidarity spreads across borders and across constant. now the family of george for it has made an emotional appeal for justice as protests continue to grow across the u.s. and around the wild national guard soldiers have been deployed in $29.00 states as incidents of austin vandalism and looting punctuate otherwise peaceful demonstrations and at least 5 people are now reported to have died in the on rest
6:02 am
well the mother of george points daughter has made her fast public statement charging back to us as you can see she paid an emotional tribute to the father of a child describing him as a good man and calling for justice. well graduate. the problem. is that they she does not. paid. any family of cured because i want justice for hill. our correspondent john hendren has been covering this for us in minneapolis and he spoke to my colleagues are just a short while ago. roxy washington was the one who really did the most poignant
6:03 am
speaking there and she said that george floyd has left a daughter who will never know her father's will never have another graduation never seen never will never see her walk down the aisle and she choked about justice for george what in his family's been very clear about what that is his brother chance talked about this yesterday and that is they want all 4 of the officers who arrested george floyd to face charges now one of them already has derek show fun he's charged with 3rd degree murder and with manslaughter but they want all 4 of those officers to be charged and i just want to give you a little look around here daryn at the scene here if you look back there under those tents at that gas station you can see that there are people speaking a lot of listeners and then there has been music here there's food there's been even dancing at points over here there is a flower memorial that you can see where people have laid for him and then here is the somber sight behind me. and that is where george floyd spent his last moments
6:04 am
it was right in front of this cover food store. and that is where the real memorial has been for meanwhile the state of minnesota has filed a civil rights charge against the minneapolis police over the death of george show and the governor says that will mean an investigation of police procedure. i think the thing i'm hearing from the protesters is we're no we're not watching and we don't care what you say we care what you do so today as a step towards that deconstruction of stomach racism the minnesota department of human rights is filing a commissioner's charge of discrimination to launch a civil rights investigation into the minneapolis police department the investigation will review in p.d.f. policies procedures and practices over the last 10 years to determine if the department is utilized systemically screamin toward practices towards people of color. well protests have now spread to more than 140 cities across the united

states including in the capital washington d.c. president trump has come under heavy criticism for his handling of this crisis in particular the forced removal of demonstrators who are outside the white house so he could have a photo op at a nearby chads. and peaceful protesters dispersed in order for a president the president from the doorstep of the people's house the white house using tear gas 'd and flash grenades going to stage a photo all photo on one of the most historic churches in the country or at least in washington d.c. we could be forgiven for believing the president is more interested in power then in friendship. we're just sure the passion. of the people is clear while a visit to a catholic shrine on tuesday has also drawn criticism trump the 1st lady visited
6:06 am
a shrine in the capital honoring the late roman catholic pope john paul the 2nd the catholic archbishop of washington d.c. denounced that move as baffling and reprehensible and condemned what he called the misuse of places of worship or protesters are back at the white house hundreds of people in peaceful demonstration and a curfew is currently in effect at least 40 cities have had night time restrictions imposed. there have been thousands of arrests protesters defy the orders. well our correspondent shihab rattansi is in washington d.c. right now actually i believe you're not very far from the white house can you talk us through what's happening around you right now. we are just hoping you can hear me i see a large crowds there with you see how can you tell me what you are seeing around you and what people are saying.
6:07 am
i believe it will have. to be all this is just kids. look like they're under 20 to be but. yes we can see you show us around. you know barely anyone just a little 100 or so people are just kids really no i think. we just want all of you coming back to shihab rattansi shortly we apologize for the the ordeal mission there will be coming back to him throughout the evening while police in new york have begun made. arrests there after the city's caf you came into effect thousands of people they remained on the streets despite an early few has been loosing vandalism there over the past few days people are now being ordered to go home without cap use that to remain in place until sunday but the
6:08 am
state governor andrew cuomo has criticized new york city's response to those protests he says police haven't done enough to stop the looting and vandalism and he has now offered to send in the national guard to help restore order. the n.y.p.d. and the mayor did not do their job last night i believe that. second you have 38000 and y.p. the people it is the largest police department in the united states of america you 30000 people and protect property use the police protect property and people looked at the video it was a disgrace when the city's mayor bill de blasio says deploying the national guard would only heighten tensions we do not need nor do we think it's wise for the
6:09 am
national guard to be in new york city nor any armed forces i'm going to tell you why this is really important we have this hour right now if someone needs a history lesson when outside armed forces go into communities no good comes of it but our correspondent there is in new york city where police are trying to enforce that caffeine. it started as a peaceful protest but things have turned taking a turn for the worst we've seen some looting we've got a gentleman in custody over there the police have just shown up here in felos right now. as another night of chaos here and york city. there are troops. there and they're leaving there. were looting chase bank. down the street here. again the curfew is in effect right now.
6:10 am
and we saw a group of about $20.00 to $30.00 break off. and there was a start of the booster who we were. and then the police responded this is what we've seen all night groups of looters that are breaking off from the peaceful protests and then start some sort of looting and then within usually 5 minutes you see a huge police presence descend on the scene that's exactly what we're seeing right here right now well let's not go back to the nation's capital washington d.c. and our correspondent she had bhutanese who is there for us she have well have another guy now tell us a little bit about what you're seeing around you you're not far from the white house i believe. you.
6:11 am
do tell us what you're seeing around the protest. white house it really is just kids to be honest i mean i wasn't around 20 or 21 or under 20. living up to this idea of no justice no peace they rattle the fence every now and then we now have this 10 foot fence outside the white house and so in many ways it's. thought i was maybe you are you hearing me i'm just making sure that you can hear me in that case i'll start again i suppose we have. the white house the protests of britain. to barely any well actually it's really people i would say mostly kids 20 years old. a shaking defense vigorously the idea of course being no justice no peace what the question always is at what point do the troops over here decide that this is too much for them to take on the threat every now and then they
6:12 am
do come some woods with that shields raised in a show of force but then they would then they retreat once again it does appear that this fence is pretty securely. sort of pushing in the fence it seems almost impossible if however they wanted to release the fence there are these little these little bolts here which we think i'm no expert on design but we think maybe they could they could remove those rather quickly and could if they wanted to come this way but then it's just it seems a bit on but so this seems relatively secure i think this give is actually part of this the stability of the fence maybe but really just a handful of kids. we'll see at the moment certainly that behaving themselves are not taking this as some terrible provocation but it's been shaken no justice no peace and peace to the peace is being broken here as they. push the fence back and forth. the other interesting thing that we've had in just in the last few
6:13 am
hours that is. the defense secretary has given given an interview to see where he says that when he accompanied with the job of the joint chiefs of staff for that matter donald trump to the charge to john struck just opposite of. where the white house over the. he had no idea where they were going he hadn't really been informed where they were going to get been given notice he thought that he says according to this interview that he was heading here to this toilet which has been. during the process he said i thought i was coming to see about allies toilets and the national good so he's distancing himself from the general joint chiefs now has also begun making it clear that he hadn't been given notice for the photo opportunity of a charter school so much consternation but. members of the defense establishment here at least distancing themselves from want to what occurred here on monday but right now this is the seat at the white house it is really a handful of kids the mass ranks of military police and troops over there we have
6:14 am
that had it confirmed by the department of defense that they have moved 1600 active duty troops are not national guard these are professional soldiers and they're in bases around the d.c. area that. they have not been deployed into d.c. there's also another interesting thing yesterday a military helicopter was buzzing protesters really low flying really sort ruth level to try and scare away protesters the true toll is a strategy. to scare away insurgents we understand the washington d.c. national guard is going to hold an inquiry into that so all the outrage from mr seems to be having no effect not just people distancing themselves in the trump circle but the national guard seemingly suggesting that some of the tactics being employed last night were not sanctions they have attended our correspondent in washington d.c. watching that incredible show of force for the. well let's take you to the state of oregon where thousands of protesters marched on to one of portland's busiest roads to stage their protest they lay face down on
6:15 am
burnside bridge with their hands behind their backs the 9 minutes and remembrance of george florian's the protests in portland have been mostly peaceful while chicago is also among the cities where protests have been taking place with hundreds marching through that city take a look they headed to the downtown area but were blocked by police from entering the central business district that area is now off limits after loosing and vandalism over the weekend city officials protesters to wear masks and to practice social distancing to prevent a fresh surge in corona virus infections. has been speaking to protesters across the united states here's how they explained all their motivations and what they hope to achieve here. i'm very happy about the momentum this is taking because this is been going on for decades it has been protests and this mini me but never to this magnitude so this this amount of awareness and activism makes me happy i'm here because. this is this story the part of history it's
6:16 am
a part of our history. i think that minnesota started a revolution across the country and nobody expected i've been talking about this for a year that something like this is going to happen i just didn't think it was going to start from minnesota we've been seeing thousands and thousands of people take to the streets all across the country here in d.c. facing incredible repression being gassed being shot at with pellets and things like this we had a whole scene in here in washington d.c. last night of people being trapped on a stream being gassed unfortunately some people taking them into their homes and so it was been an all out systemic assault i would say well let's head over to the west coast now where los angeles is now under caf you for a 3rd night ahead of the go home or that protest as was still out on the streets although in fewer numbers the night here in the day more than 2700 protesters have been arrested in that city since the protests began nearly all of them for calf you
6:17 am
violations or for refusing to dispossess correspondent rob reynolds is in l.a. when we can speak to him right now rob i know there has been issues of pollution and vandalism but it doesn't quite quiet that tell us exactly where you are and what's been happening on the streets around you. well. yes this us here we are we're in the hollywood area and behind me you can see this bus with the county of los angeles sheriff's department written on it and you were talking a moment ago about the arrest for curfew violations well just a few minutes ago police herded maybe 2 dozen people on board this bus they have been arrested for the misdemeanor of her. a few violations it was all quite peaceful in fact some of the people who were getting on the bus with their wrists bound by those white plastic handcuffs were actually joking with the officers as they as they were helped on board the bus so they will be taken to the
6:18 am
jail and processed it's not a serious charge curfew violation but it is a legal method for police to clear people off the streets and it appears to have been quite successful in areas where we were last night where there were considerable numbers of people there are no people now on hollywood boulevard which is not far from here maybe a couple of kilometers. earlier today before curfew there were thousands of people maybe 3000 people all marching more or less quite peacefully without any real conflicts with the police carrying their signs calling for 'd justice in the case of george floyd calling for defunding police departments here in l.a. and across the country and calling for a recognition that all is not right in the united states and that
6:19 am
a great deal of work needs to be done on racial justice and inequality in the country so we have also been talking to people getting a very interesting variety of views and it ranges from people saying that they absolutely can damn anyone who would commit illegal acts of vandalism to others saying well you know maybe it's that that kind of thing that actually makes the country and its leaders sit up and take notice and other people saying you know the media is not doing a good job of separating those who commit. vandalism or smash down windows and so forth from the mass of people who are protesting peacefully in a passionate sense of outrage but still peacefully so. the action here appears to be just about over just us yet we have this bus year the
6:20 am
police may be bringing more people from elsewhere we don't know but in hollywood tonight and as far as we are able to determine although we don't we obviously can't see every corner of los angeles a metropolitan area of 10000000 people that is under curfew until dawn things seem to be relatively quiet compared to the past several nights i do want to ask you because we are seeing these live pictures right now all those people who have taken to the streets and they mount ching seeming very peacefully carrying at banas and the american flag and we've just we've just lost those pictures but i'm rob i do want to ask do you get the sense given that we have seen the security presence we have seen potentially elements of the national guard being deployed but people still coming out that that people will continue defying that calf you.
6:21 am
i think that people will continue to protest that is very clear from the conversations that i've had with people who are protesting and were pro set sting earlier today people are planning to continue these peaceful marches sit ins activities of that kind to question the police chief and the the mayor vigorously whenever they hold public events as far as people breaking the law or even just breaking curfew which again is a misdemeanor. there will be some of course there will be some there are a lot of people involved in this whole complex. system of things that are going on here but there doesn't appear to be mass. curfew disobedience in large. or all right. having said that
6:22 am
the police. are leaving. so that might be a good time to. broadcast back to eunice thanks very very much well let's now get the thoughts of he is one of the organizers of the group republican versus against trump and also a former communications director for jeb bush tim let me start by asking you for your reaction to what we've been famous for the last few days especially that walk by president trying to send john chads and having a protest as gassed along the way. i think that's going to be a defining image of the election and i have to tell you i've heard from a lot of republican types who are not as vocal as i am as my colleagues at republican voters against trump are that disliking the president that privately dislike him and less than maybe they sat it out because they couldn't vote for hillary clinton. but boy i've been hearing from them in droves about the just the
6:23 am
scene last night the idea that the president would tear gas and send rubber bullets into a peaceful protesters clergy people in a public park before curfew so he could simply walk one block and awkwardly hold a bible in the air it was just a really a sickening event it's not something that is in the american tradition. and i think it's going to be an image that that sticks with him during the campaign year for sure that image that photograph of president have holding the bible in office and he's been accused of using religion as a political tool and today we saw him visit that shrine but i mean that's not such a new tactic does this now change anything for republicans. no i don't think that's a new time to get all and you know look trumped troubleshooters even jellicoe voters know that he's not a religious man and you know they like him because they see him as a vessel to get what they wanted policies i think they like him because they see
6:24 am
that he bothers the you know on religious kind of what lead to media and hollywood types that like the fact that he bugs them and so i don't think it's the that image itself i think it's the image of the protesters the peaceful protesters getting gas the current clergy people getting gas the rubber bullets and trying to kind of emerging from that just that he can take this by a lot of avan because fancy birkin bag you know that is not something that that is going to sit well here that's not you know here's he's already been struggling with suburban voters if you look at. the midterm elections this is not what suburban voters are looking for they're not looking for violence in the streets that it's spurred on by a president who's who's you know needs to it's to gas in a sense to assuage his ego and so i think it is that whole scene you know more than the image itself and. that's going to resonate tim so many of the protest is that
6:25 am
we've been hearing from over the last week they're saying that this isn't just about george floyd it's about police brutality the climate that allows that as well as justice issues of equity i mean this isn't new and this isn't just about trump. no it isn't but trying to stone gasoline on the fire you know in this is a pyromaniac you know tender box and so i think that you know there has been this build up and a desire to protest and speak out against this president since you know basically the inauguration day. and the murder just the senses murder of george floyd the unbelievably crass handling it of the handling of it of officials in minnesota and officials in the white house i think basically exacerbated you know protests that we've seen for a while now for good reasons and ferguson and elsewhere are minneapolis before us so i took a steal and so i think that really what trump is is exacerbated and these added an
6:26 am
element to it did it is made you know a protest that has been happening for a while now going to become a much more than a much more of a phenomenon and much more of something that that is violent frankly thanks to his rhetoric and thanks to this town 10000000 organizer of the great republican vices against trump thanks so much for joining us on out of there great to get you in thanks. well let's take you now live to the streets of los angeles where as you can see a standoff is developing between the police who have been deployed appears to be riot police and protesters who are standing there with their hands up a curfew is currently in effect in the l.a. this is now the 3rd night that that's been in place and those protests have obviously been continuing for some time let's have
6:27 am
a listen to what's what's happening work before. you're on. the. wrong. side. of. the. c door. as you can hear them this they're shouting peaceful protests those protesters insisting that they are acting peacefully even as they face a standoff there with the riot police and you can you may also be able to hear a helicopter what appears to be a helicopter hovering overhead and we've been hearing from our correspondent rob reynolds who is in l.a. for us the protests have been largely peaceful there have been some incidents of routine vandalism but broadly especially today those protests have been very
6:28 am
peaceful and we saw the same group of protesters walking with their packard's and the american flag through the streets of los angeles earlier in the day and that did appear to be a very peaceful protest indeed will be continuing to cover that very closely as i say there is a curfew in place and they have been arrests for curfew violations and we'll see what happens in the coming hours. oh let's now take you to it. 6 police officers have now been charged for assaulting students who were trying to leave a protest there this cam video captured shows the arrest and the offices tasing and then dragging them from the car the students were arrested but then later released and they are facing charges the offices though 2 of them have already been fired and they've been charged with aggravated assault the others that you are seeing face charges including property damage and about 3. or 4 police officers have been
6:29 am
shot during protests in the state of missouri they were trying to control crowds in the city of st louis some demonstrators had been smashing windows looting and setting businesses there on fire the offices are expected to make a full recovery some coward 5 shots and now we have 4 in the hospital but let's leave. this alone but. what can we make some sense out of this so we made some sense of this let's all grown so. most of the was delicious limit some so much so. that these kids go down just. like crazy joe blow but no like light like that large blues brothers job and. although flourishing belittles well beyond the united states they have been protests against police brutality and south
6:30 am
america the middle east and europe tens of thousands of people took to the streets in cities across france have a look at this this was in paris tear gas being fired at protesters that demonstration began peacefully outside a courthouse and then police moved in took a large crowds and other parts of the french capital demonstrators want to draw attention to the case of a dominant troll or a that's a 24 year old black man who died in police custody back in 2016 the rally also drew supporters of the black lives matter movement in the united states palestinians and also joined in the movement andrew attention to the aggression of israeli forces in the occupied west bank protesters gathered outside the church of the nativity lighting candles for george floyd and. palestinian man killed by israeli police in jerusalem's old city on saturday. we came to show our alliance with the oppressed in the world against injustice against the u.s. administration that approaches black people against the israeli occupation that
6:31 am
approaches the palestinian people. are also showing solidarity with black lives matter and television hundreds of people showed up at the u.s. embassy branch office some said they wanted to end racial discrimination in their own country the calls for justice for george floyd were also heard in argentina people marched through the center of the capital one as there is to show their solidarity with the protests in the u.s. and outrage is also spread to the netherlands where a socially distance protest was held against the killing of george floyd they gathered in the hague taking and me as they called for an end to racial discrimination. well canadian prime minister justin trudeau has struggled to respond when asked about president trump's handling of the protests take a look at how he reacted i'd like to ask you what you think about that and if you don't want to comment what message do you think you're sending.
6:32 am
when we all watch in horror and consternation of what's going on in the united states it is a time to pull people together. but it is a time to listen is the time to learn what injustices continue despite progress over years and decades well let's now take you back to los angeles and show you some more of a is live pictures that we're seeing of the standoff between protesters and police you can see there there's a bit of room that's been placed between the man and there is a curfew in place arrests have been taking place we'll be bringing you much more of that very shortly in about half an hour from now it's this is europe they'll be
6:33 am
more news here on out as there often. as coronavirus maintains its stranglehold on the u.s. campaigning on the election trail has been forced to take a back seat but with so much at stake when will the presidential candidates get the opportunity to hit the road and so their brand of american politics follow the u.s. elections on a. look at the what put it in the image just maybe how might it. be going to smudge would one give me a. good job that the op. who may not didn't look at the. not welcome sort of.
