people don't die because they can't afford insulin well they die because they can't get access to care head to head on out. al-jazeera. alone i'm adrian forgetting this is the news live from doha coming up in the next 60 minutes israel says that it's repelled an infiltration attempt along its border with lebanon we'll have the latest from both sides of that border. grief on the streets of iraq's capital after protests against corruption and high unemployment turned violent. a warning of another clampdown in spain's catalonia
6:01 pm
region that's corona virus infections there again. also ahead they've got a nose for the job the dogs being trained to play a critical role in detecting the crew of the us. and in sports qatar has officially expressed an interest in staging a future olympic games 2022 world cup house how to bring the olympics to the middle east for the 1st time. let's begin with the breaking news israel is accusing hizbollah of launching what it's calling an infiltration attempt on its border with lebanon it happened in the past couple of hours in the shaba farms region there's no confirmation from hizbollah that it is behind the incident the united nations is restraint from both sides a short while ago israel's prime minister benjamin netanyahu posted on twitter.
6:02 pm
saying what was happening on the northern border was being constantly monitored he says israel won't allow iran to establish itself on the border netanyahu adds that lebanon of hizbollah will be responsible for any attack that comes out of lebanon of the series harry forces washing developments from west jerusalem he joins us now live via skype parry what more do we know about what's happened on the border today . well certainly there is more information now coming from the israeli military spokespeople one quoted in the israeli media saying that what took place was an attempted infiltration by hezbollah fighters this took place inside the occupied golan heights in the shipper farms area a military occupied area abutting the lebanese territory from which hezbollah operates and that the israeli military says that they were tracking this that they entered into israeli controlled territory and that they were driven back by machine
6:03 pm
gun tank and artillery fire there is some vagueness from the israelis as to the condition of the fighters it said that as i say that they were driven back but no comment on whether there were any injuries or deaths there has been a report from the. newspaper affiliated to hezbollah inside lebanon saying that there were no casualties on the hezbollah side certainly the israeli military is saying there were no casualties on its side you have to wonder that in the middle of the day on the bright sunshine having tracked this team allegedly into israeli controlled territory you have to wonder about the intent of that fire if indeed there were no casualties perhaps a sign of the will on the israeli side certainly for there not to be a further escalation and indeed there would be messaging from the other side to the same to the same extent as well before this took place today why now gary what's
6:04 pm
the significance of the timing of this. well there was an expectation of some kind of hezbollah response along the northern border after what took place last week which is an airstrike in southern damascus inside syria attributed to israel in which a hezbollah fighter there was killed now there are reports that israel took the uncommon step of messaging through moscow too has been saying that there was no intent on its part to kill this hezbollah fighter there was some play made of that on the other side of the border inside lebanon. that was a sign from israel that it was not looking for an escalation indeed the israeli government is very much preoccupied with the 2nd wave of the coronavirus pandemic here and of course in lebanon there is unfurling economic crisis as well so the thing that analysts have long said about this potential flashpoint that neither side should be interested in an escalatory conflict still holds now and it may be
6:05 pm
we wait to see of course waiting for a statement from the other side from from hezbollah it may be that that both sides feel that this is enough and already israel has instructed civilians tourists farmers the like to go back to normal behavior along the northern border all right so this unlikely to be any sort of return later reaction on israel's part given what you've just been saying. well i mean i think as far as israel is concerned it has a repelled this initial attack and that it is continuing to monitor the situation the same military spokesman quoted as saying that tense and complicated days lie in store but if and this is a big if if there are no casualties on either side if hezbollah feels that it has done enough to avenge you or make a make some kind of a response to the killing of its fighter inside syria then presumably as we saw in
6:06 pm
a similar exchange a little less than a year ago not too far away this might be enough and things go back to the normal if tense situation how does this how a force that live there in west jerusalem many thanks indeed i was here as a harder is on the line with us now from the southern lebanese city of sidon what's the situation the center. well but still no claim of responsibility no statement from 'd the israeli army calling it initially calling it the security incidents and then saying justice was an academy by hezbollah fighters infiltrate the shebaa farms there like i mentioned the group has not made any statements but. we see very close. just holes never. reached by hezbollah. but there isn't one day this might be
6:07 pm
a reconnaissance mission. so this is crazy a lot of questions there was this in fact the reconnaissance mission was sent by her father to carry out attacks and the israeli army damaged or no look at the operation at the very fact that certified part of hezbollah is is raising questions because last year when a similar incident happened following the killing of 2 hezbollah fighters in the 'd israeli strike in syria hezbollah was quick to retaliate i think we probably inside israel proper and it didn't take them long to claim responsibility but this time around another interesting aspect of this whole incident is the fact that it's happened in shebaa farms this is land where 'd israel let it out in syria into sects an area with. terrorists who all said haven't been successful
6:08 pm
yet so the very fact whether or not this was an operation for the 10th or a reconnaissance mission the fact that when the boss was a situation that hezbollah does not want to escalate the situation further we 6 now along the border there is a cost to come you can hear israeli drones in the sky 9 you can hear israeli warplanes in the sky you can also see u.n. peacekeepers patrol the area. knife was mentioned. holding contacts with both sides of the pipe with the s.l.a. tension what is clear i think for the time being is that the escalation that fact. tensions happened be escalated quite to many thanks to china what of that on the lebanese side of the side of the border with israel. at least 2 people have been killed in renewed anti-government protests in iraq's capital baghdad they're the 1st casualties during demonstrations since prime minister stuff i'll cover me was sworn into office in may the biggest anti-government protests for
6:09 pm
decades broke out in iraq last october they forced the resignation of then prime minister out of the causing months of government deadlock and the corona virus outbreak has put even more pressure on the economy state revenues mostly from oil exports has been slashed and hauffe off of the global crushing prices caused by the pandemic al-jazeera sort of all fall t.v. reports now from baghdad. this is the funeral for one of the protesters killed in last night. where. tourists have gathered. the memory. where any direct had a. violent place. and. the fight in. * iraq. and now we can see that.
6:10 pm
they are angry at the government for. not making sweeping changes. since october. who put the prime minister in his position what protection have you provided to the protesters what demands have you implemented for the protesters you didn't provide any solution not the simplest things it's very silly that there's no electricity no clean water you didn't do anything for the citizens. the military spokesperson of the prime minister has condemned the violence this promise the investigation we're also said the security forces have been ordered to use force only as a last resort but until now the details of what happened last night remain unclear what is certain however is the demonstrators are very angry at the government and they have little confidence that this government can actually bring those
6:11 pm
responsible to account. tyler is a researcher at the university of exeter strategy and security institute specializing in iraq and counterterrorism he's with us now on the protest is expecting too much of the prime minister here is it within his power to fix all of the problems all the grievances i don't think they're expecting too much from the iraqi state because the state is in doubt enough with resources and other riches to be able to provide for its people however i do think that some people are expecting too much of prime minister mr mccartney only in the sense that you know he's dealing with forces that are beyond his control so we're looking at the iraqi state we're looking at how it's formed and the trajectory that's taken since the u.s. led invasion in 2003 we can see that the american occupation implanted a political elite are divided across ethnic sectarian lines and that it lead has
6:12 pm
over 17 almost 18 years now steadily formed the state that serves its own interests so each of these groups have arizona parts and interests they control various ministries and if we're looking at what most of our government for example there's very little we can do about that especially without a proper political popular mandate because he was put in to power by these groups by parliament 3 blocks he was not elected so the only thing he can really do is kind of hold the fort essentially and he's kind of stuck at prime minister up until they can have proper elections and even then you still have to deal with each state you still have to deal with various ministries under the control of various parties and various political actors who had entrenched interests so there's very little we can do unfortunately given all of that what then will it take to bring about the change that the protesters are demanding will things ever change in iraq. i mean it's kind of sad to say this considering everything that's gone on in iraq
6:13 pm
for decades now you know not only the 1718 years that we've seen post 2003 but also prior to that with the saddam hussein regime and the sanctions and everything else that iraq has gone through but it does seem that iraq if it continues within the political process as it is now nothing's ever going to change and in fact all it's going to do is inflame popular tension so we're going to see more and more of these protests we're going to see more and more violence. you know iraq is awash with black market arms had at one point the largest military in the region so there's a lot of veterans out there who frankly are angry veterans they know how to use their weapons and this is the reason why the iraqi insurgency was so effective because of the amount of trained personnel there the same people stood around so this continues as it is then we may even see an armed insurrection not now but certainly within a few years because there's only so much that people can take as an example they can handle initially the government's response to all of this going back several
6:14 pm
years actually was to kind of pigeonhole certain sectarian groups so that point at the sunni arab demographic for example and bring them or say that they're harboring al qaeda that was particularly the case on the 2nd set sectarian prime ministers like noting maliki. that rhetoric has eased but the reality has an ease of looking at the state institutions again it's a very sectarian. state structure and therefore now they can't necessarily blame the sunni arabs are they all for isis and there's no real you know the war on terrorism has been quote unquote one where just looking now the war against corruption which frankly the government is losing balefully and it's something which is absolutely tragic and could lead to even more violence and i suspect that's what we had and as you say the country is awash with weapons and people who know how to use them if if the situation did descend further into violence into civil war who would be pitted against to the people against the elite or but these various political factions be fighting each other. i think the one good thing
6:15 pm
and again it's the not that they say but the one good thing about the sheer level of corruption iraq is that. what it's done is like i said previously they would kind of rely on the sectarian argument as to why the country will malfunction but and to an extent that was bought by the way been by the people especially in southern provinces especially when you look at the threat of isis in the guard and so on but now what the country realise is that these people who are in power these elites have a vested interest in pitting segments of the country against one another so they're always pitting the sunni's against the she had a she had a cyst on you but this is kind of it's melted down these barriers to the point where people are realizing that it's not just the sudanese and the threats not just us she added under threat all the kurds or any other number of minorities and demographic groups every single iraqi is under the sway of an elite which is highly corrupt highly nepotistic and will not relinquish power control because frankly
6:16 pm
they've been lining their pockets folk at 17 or 18 years now so what i will see happening i think is you still going see these divisions unfortunately the sectarian divisions the ethnic divisions but there may be marriages of convenience so they would maybe turn their guns on the state or state actors we're also looking at procure our militia groups the popular mobilization forces and all of these different units that contribute to the iraqi deep state structure and i think ultimately that's what you're going to see a clash ok really good story to so many thanks to tom a. from the university of texas up suicide attacks in northern syria have killed a child and injured more than a dozen other people the child died in a bombing in the rebel held area of a friend while 3 people were wounded 12 others were hurt in a separate attack in the city of idlib russia and turkey who back opposing sides in the conflict have been patrolling the area since a cease fire agreement in march. demonstrates is in yemen

emergencies program says the new cases of always been highly likely as countries ease restrictions but he says nations like spain are well positioned to manage new outbreaks the situation. we're close to plot it was there before the authorities certainly assure us that they're taking every possible measure to investigate and suppress lister's and taking localized action to suppress those 2 clusters of disease so i think it will take it a number of days or weeks for us to see what is the future in spain but we trust that with this wolf an approach with the sense of the surveillance with the sustained testing and with the cooperation of people in spain that we will see these clusters come under control into course why doubt about the lead up in spain 0 is not at 0 is what measures the government in madrid taking to to stem the rise of coronavirus cases that.
6:19 pm
yes wallace to action has changed quite a bit since the state of emergency lockdown what the central government the government of the of president's son should was the one in charge to to to deal with the whole crisis after the lift of the logs down the regions all the power has been transferred to the 17 regions and the other ones that are responsible of managing the whole crisis this is why we so today the president of catalonia came top the talking about the actual situation catalonia has become in the the last weeks the epicenter of the so-called 2nd wave of the corona virus outbreak they have been reduced to ring over 1000 cases of corona virus infections in the last weeks per day so because alone we are right now has $290.00 clusters they say that this is under control but they will have to impose tougher measures if this situation if this situation doesn't doesn't contain the corner of our side break

what the civilians are saying. in south africa 43 people are in court accused of killing 5 people in an attack on a church the court hearing is in the town of west an area that was previously delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic more than 200 members of the church were held hostage for hours on july 11th just west of johannesburg the standoff may have been motivated by a feud between church members of a serious fight it amila reports. there's been very little progress in hearing the $43.00 bail applications related to the violence at the international pentecostal holiness church here in south africa a $43.00 suspects were arrested after the violence at their church and they have been a number of charges ranging from murder to malicious damage to property as well as the legal position of firearms so far only 11 of those bail applications have been

heard it may take up to weeks before the bail matter is concluded but it all goes back to the violence at the church a few weeks ago that relates to what appears to be a battle for leadership in 1908 a former leader of the church crossed away and he left in a state of at least $26000000.00 and that's this appears to be the incentive behind the battle for leadership which of course has affected this church of at least 3000000 of follow was the violence was quite intense and escalated to a point where these 5 people were killed some of them in a call that was city lights on the day now the church has said that it is trying to mend these strained relations a mediator has tried to bring together all 4 sides so far we know only 3 of the factions are participated but they've said they're trying to build unity and try to sort these tensions out but at the end of the day it's left at least $43.00 people
