a 6 month lockdown in the camp some attacks on some vehicles to move people out of the camp or to move them around ensued and some of the people that were in this current team area were fleeing from that violence and in the process of that several fires were set on the perimeter and then now those fires have been set inside the camp also office for the asylum seeking process takes place is on fire our students living quarters are on fire. numerous people have been evacuated from the area of their own accord or are now by authorities the space that was created for quarantine was for anyone who had recently tested or had been potentially connected to anyone who had tested positive of those cases where it's symptomatic and they were just basically quarantining them off to the side for 14 days so once you know once night falls it's kind of not necessarily you know aggressively policed and in this area some individuals gathered and started arresting some of the people that were inside and some sort of violence ensued the images and the

the trial in the u.k. u.s. brazil and south africa it's hoped $3000000000.00 is can be distributed globally julie fisher is from georgetown medical university she explains what this means for the future of the trial. at this point a group of external experts will be consulted and it's a normal part of the process they'll be called in to see if any adverse events that were reported and were serious are likely to be due to the vaccine or to be unrelated and their advice will help decide whether or not the vaccine trial continues we are all familiar with my old versa vents that can happen after vaccination like fever or pain at the side of the injection to put a pause that has to the event would be serious something that was perhaps related to. the heart the lungs the kid is another system in the body that was really required medical attention and that was found to be serious enough

to merit causing this very important effort to test this vaccine in order to make sure that the vaccine is safe and that the adverse events were not due to the vaccine itself there is a set of expectations to test the safety of any vaccine that will be given to 2 people and that that is that it would be tested in a small group of volunteers to make sure that it is safe and has a reasonable chance of being effective before even going into larger groups of volunteers much less the public without that kind of testing we just don't know for sure if the vaccine will protect people from infection i think we would like to see one as quickly as possible all of us but i think it's reasonable to assume that it would be at the very earliest the end of 2020 and more likely 2021 well astra zeneca is one of 9 drug companies that have pledged not to rush approval

11:17 am
know you've been there we've seen the latest pictures from the camp which looks like it's been destroyed by these fires what is a current situation as you know it. so in the this is exactly what we know right now as you probably know more it is you can predict but city of 3000 people who are at the moment there's between 12 and 13000 people that were hosts of there until last night and so overnight fires have been raging in different places in the camp and the earliest reports this morning seem to indicate that the camp is almost completely destroyed and there's a few segments of it still standing but overall there is very little left and so the 12 to 13000 people who are. who have had to evacuate to come overnight because of the fires. are currently in the streets with nowhere to go indeed and the live pictures that we're looking at right now show a lot of destruction at this camp which is the biggest one on lesbos island and a stand we also understand that apparently these fires were. were started
11:18 am
deliberately by some of the refugees and migrants at the camp to protest the coronavirus restrictions that have been placed on them what more can you tell us about this and what is a situation as far as covert 19 inside the camp. so it's obviously a little bit too soon to have really precise and confirm you can use about how exactly the fires were started it seems that it is in the possible that it was residents of the cab who started them and what you need to keep in mind that for the last 5 years there has been a complete inhumane and the poor will like ration policy places madea people have been living in completely inhumane circumstances for the last 5 years have absolutely no perspective and this is the will of stress has been a moment a tremendously in the last 6 months with very strict movement restrictions related to comit 19 and then of course the the tional stress when last week of the 1st case

of it was identified in the camp and the camp was put under under mass quarantine so meaning nobody was anymore allowed to leave the camp so i think what we're seeing now it's unfortunately very sad but also predictable outcome of these horrendous migration policies that people have been suffering from for the last 5 years we understand that there are about 35 cases of covert 19 in the camp what sort of help are these people getting and also you know what what are the authorities done to prevent the virus from spreading within the cap. yes so we've known from the beginning that it's extremely difficult to contain the virus under circumstances such as money 13000 places people in a place designed for 3000 it means it's impossible to keep distance it's impossible to wash your hands on a regular basis because there's not sufficient water and sanitation facilities available. and so there was a 1st case last week 2000 people were tested then buying 3 health authorities. with

which resulted up to yesterday in reportedly a total of $35.00 cases who had been put in isolation right now there is nothing anymore in place for it because consider money account no longer there and we are extremely worried not only 4 to 40 percent children even 1000000 who are currently on the streets but in particular we need to hope that also more than 200 people live in the camp who are at particular risk for heart or because of their age or because of co-morbidities that would mean that if they get infected they will be much more sick than the rest of the population and so as far as we know right now those 200 are mixed in the big group of 30000 who are basically at loss in the streets 70 a very critical situation for those refugees and migrants at moira camp in less post grace thank you so much cal and when i am from doctors without borders m.s.f. speaking to us there from les paul sankey for your time. now the coronavirus
