in the white house then the outcome of this election will determine i believe the course of our country for generations to come live coverage of the vice presidential debate on a. al-jazeera . hello i'm rob matheson and this is the news hour live from doha coming up in the next 60 minutes calling teemed in the white house president donald trump and 1st lady maloney a test positive for covert 19. he's now forced to put off campaigning temple just a month before the presidential election. also the media says it could be open to a ceasefire as fighting rages in the disputed nagano caught about. 2 years after

times several times in the past few days including on tuesday to the debate in cleveland ohio the next day they flew together to a campaign rally in minnesota. we're across all the fallout from this alan fisher is in washington d.c. and he's watching the biden campaign and keeping an eye on the new york stock exchange is kristen salumi that he is in london for us dominic cain is in the german capital and our white house correspondent is at the white house in washington d.c. but 1st rob reynolds begins our coverage the news came in a late night tweet from the white house president donald trump wrote tonight the 1st lady and i tested positive for covert 19 we will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately we will get through this together it is not known
4:03 pm
how despite elaborate precautions and constant testing of white house officials the white house press corps and others in contact with trump the president contracted the virus but earlier one of trump's top aides hope hicks was confirmed to have tested positive hicks accompanied the president to the debate in cleveland ohio on tuesday trump phoned in to a fox television program earlier on thursday and talked about hicks having been exposed it's a tough kind of a situation it's a terrible thing so i just want to protest and we'll see what happens i mean who knows the white house physician sean conley said trump and the 1st lady are both well at this time and that the white house medical team will maintain a vigilant watch and loni a trump later tweeted we are feeling good. trump has several risk factors that put

him in danger of complications from covert 19 he is in his bid seventy's and overweight would have to wait for the next few days and you know for some people get really sick within hours but you know some people don't get sick until week after and so we have to really be carefully observing the situation trump has declined to wear a mask on many occasions of clothing at rallies where many of his supporters also refused to wear a mask. his entourage including family members went masculists at the tuesday debate trump even ridiculed democratic candidate joe biden for wearing a mask as recommended by virtually all public health experts i don't wear mess like him every time you see he's got a mask he could be speaking 200 feet away from and he shows up with the biggest mask i've ever seen if trump were to become seriously ill and unable to carry out

his duties the constitution provides for a vice president mike pence to take over temporarily pence said he is praying for trump's recovery there can be no spin you can be you know harbor ups there has to be clear understanding of what is going on with this person this president united states because otherwise if he's not going past the to take care of the business he will have to be by the 25th amendment transition has to occur. but a glaring question now is how the news will affect trump's reelection campaign already trailing nationally and in certain important swing states it would seem that trump can ill afford to stay out of commission for a quarantine period of 2 weeks trump joins other world leaders including brazil's president gyre balsa naro and the u.k. prime minister boris johnson who have contracted the virus worldwide the death toll from covert done teen has exceeded 1000000 rob reynolds al-jazeera ok our white

house correspondent kimberly hawkins joining us from washington d.c. kimberly in the early parts of this when it was breaking initially the white house was issuing tweets and saying everything was fine and everything was under control things would carry on as normal do we have any more statements from the white house about this. we have no official statements the only a statement that we have so far from the white house press office is that right now there are no updates in terms of briefings that are scheduled now that could be subject to change but there is some reporting here in the united states that potentially what is being discussed is the possibility of the president giving some sort of national address or reassurance to the public that none of this is being confirmed it likely is still being worked out given the fact that it is so early in the morning still here in washington having said that there's also some reporting
4:07 pm
that the president may have been at a fundraiser the night before. pardon me my voice is a little bit hoarse from the hours of coverage. what i was about to say is that the president also had been exhibiting some hoarseness at a fundraiser just the night before and as a result some of the attendees had reported that he had been appearing somewhat so far jack so. pardon me there is some concern about the president's condition whether or not the white house will have to provide an update it certainly is unclear at this moment but. again there is some reporting is speculation that well the white house has downplayed the president's condition saying that he's feeling fine that they are not perhaps revealing the entire story kimberly thanks very much indeed of course as this story develops we're going to be coming back to you but for now that's our white house correspondent kimberly
4:08 pm
holcomb thank you very much but we've also heard from the 1st lady who tweeted to say she and president trump are in quarantine at home melania trump says they're both feeling good that all up her upcoming engagements of being postponed she's also encouraged everyone to stay safe. well alan fischer is in washington d.c. for us alan let's talk about the impact on the joe biden campaign because of course we saw that debate with the president and joe biden were quite a distance apart when they were on the stage but it was a very heated debate so there is going to be questions about whether or not joe biden may well have been affected by this. i'm actually surprised it's taken the biden campaign so long to respond they have a rapid response unit and we got nothing from them even though we were told they would be a statement around 2 hours ago in fact in the last 1520 minutes or so joe biden has tweeted something very brief saying that the thoughts are for the swift recovery of
4:09 pm
the president and the 1st lady and their continued to plea for the health and safety of the president and the 1st lady i understand that there was some debate in the biden campaign about whether or not there should be some sort of political message to attach to that in the end it was decided by senior advisers to use one of the president's own phrases it is what it is and people will see exactly what has happened so there is no need for the biden campaign to continue to hammer the point here there will be a question over how they continue to campaign donald trump has pushed ahead with n. paris and rallies and we've seen the consequence of that with people getting sick at some of them meanwhile the democrats very airlie pivoted to the idea of virtual tone holes in virtual rallies and virtual fundraisers they will continue to do that just over the last 24 hours they said that they were going to go in person canvassing and at least 4 key states that is no under review although there's no
4:10 pm
reason why it should be but certainly there are big questions about joe biden health he was as you say rob very close to the president during that debate and saw given that he is 77 he keeps himself in remarkable condition doesn't carry a lot of extra weight they will still want to get him tested very quickly to make sure that he also is negative at this point and the implications aren't just for the campaigns that are the allen we're talking about the shot where he's rippling out across congress as well just talk us through what the impact might be of that. you've got to look at the contact tracing operation there is no underway because although perhaps tested positive on thursday she could have been carrying the symptoms since saturday or sunday and that means if she was in close contact with the president so could he so who does that include well you've got to think about steve miniature news the treasury secretary at the moment is to go shooting in
4:11 pm
a corporate relief package with nancy pelosi he has been in new york all office with donald trump we suspect they were wearing masks he's been there with mark meadows mark meadows the chief of staff and steve mission have been on capitol hill talking to nancy pelosi and then there is the new supreme court nominee in equally violet now she has been working at the white house for the last week just in the last couple of days has started going round meeting various senators talking about her nomination this through is and so many questions as well and of course a person huge question mark over the next debate 1st of all the vice presidential debate on wednesday mike pence we're told tested negative this morning just in the last couple of hours so it seems that he might be able to go ahead with that but of course the president and joe biden are due to meet head to head at a town hall in miami in just about a couple of weeks that is that the end of the period that the president will be in
4:12 pm
self isolation so does that debate go ahead will there be an audience or will it be virtual well the president be fit enough to stand for an hour and a half on stage and answer questions a huge amount of questions being asked and i don't think we're going to be close to answers for a few hours yet here and what is a very frenetic friday in washington we're always told that october provides an election surprised who would have thought on the fasti of october it would be the president who has largely derided the idea that people can catch corporate court covert and is no self isolating and it does sound as though we're beginning to get . a raft of people who are getting themselves tested in the wake of this we understand the statement which and has said that he's tested negative and also saying that the u.s. health and human services secretary alex has said that he too has tested negative clearly we're going to get a raft of these in the next few hours but alan for now thanks very much indeed the u.s. secretary of state has spoken to reporters as he was traveling from italy to croatia
4:13 pm
early on friday night pump a it was tested on board his plane and he came back negative. actually have not been with the president since the abraham accords and there. have been traveling i can't remember 10 the last of the last 17 days something like that. 17 so i've been a lot somebody with me and i think the american like we're praying for the president and the 1st lady to have a speedy recovery and so just make up a little bit of a speedy recovery i spoke to the vice president's up at this morning as well we're taking this obviously very seriously and will do everything we can to keep everyone safe including you all you have the results here in your view as a native. all trumps infection marks a devastating blow to his reelection bid u.s. health authorities say people must self isolate for 10 days after a positive test and that brings us up to uphold with the 11th but before that in 5 days is vice president mike pence is set to debate his democratic rival kamel
4:14 pm
horace now while tense as tested negative it's unclear whether he will also self isolate if president trump develop symptoms that could get in the way of a 2nd presidential debate in about 13 days and his 3rd face off with joe biden a week later on october the 22nd now we are of course just 32 days out from the big day the election on november the 3rd. or in a shop as a republican strategist and consultant she's joining us on skype from washington d.c. how do you think both sides of the equation the political equation are going to be intemperate in targeting what's happening at the moment i'd like to start by saying how very sorry i am to hear this news i had 2 relatives very close to me had to be 19 this summer and both have recovered it's a very nasty virus i saw the impact on them and our families and it has been truly unconscionable and so i'd like to say that i do wish that the president the 1st
4:15 pm
lady of very speedy recovery because i don't wish this virus on anyone however you know he's acted medically invincible for months and months on and he's spoken and acted that way continuing to hold in person events and so this really serves as a somber reminder that this virus is still very much plaguing our country and while it's difficult to understand how it this point we know from science that his age and his obesity is great have made him of course part of a greater risk so this is really shocking news because for many of us we cannot believe it made it to the white house we could understand staff having it but after seeing other world leaders get this we figured most of us americans when i say we figured there's no way it can get to the president at this point in time given the fact that the president has taken a significant stand against the use of mosques although he would of course lots of
4:16 pm
things say differently that he does use mosques when he believes it's necessary do you think that he is going to change his approach to the wearing of mosques in the way for example that boris johnson the u.k. prime minister did when he called coronaviruses suddenly came out of it he survived he took it incredibly seriously and decided to change policies as a result of that. right that would be the prudent thing to do is to change policy based on one's experience and knowing science however this president has routinely flouted his own experts his own scientific advisors about recommendations and so one would lead one to be led is made to think that conventional wisdom would get this president and he would change a policy he would perhaps look for a federal mandate states like new york have made it the law it's not just an option public in new york state for example governor cuomo has said it is the law to be wearing a mask but look this president is
4:17 pm
a republican and conservatives limited government spokes do not like federal mandates so it remains yet to be seen what he will do when he comes out of the quarantine but just 2 weeks ago we know that in ohio it is own rally he was saying things like this virus quote unquote virtually affects no one except for the elderly so that you know these these these very hypocritical oxymoronic statements by the president lead us to wonder how you will handle himself during quarantine after quarantine and really what impact this could have on how he moves forward regarding debates in his campaign against joe biden who he also made fun of this past week for wearing a mask during the debate so let's talk about the run up to the election of course we have the debates coming up there is a debate there is there are questions over whether or not those debates are going to be held and if so in what fashion how do you think in the immediate term donald trump is going to react to this because one would suggest that it is vitally
4:18 pm
important for the republican counting for the trump campaign to get donald trump back on television in front of americans as fast as possible. well there are 2 things here number one let's not forget that this president speaks to the american people through twitter unlike any other past president he is on twitter incessantly we can expect more of that probably as he quarantines he watches television consumes cable news in a way that we don't know any other modern president to have done so i believe he'll continue taking his message to the american people i don't think quarantine or having this virus unless it incapacitates him meaning he had we would have to be admitted to a hospital and be intubated for example i believe that's the only thing that would stop this president from continuing to take to twitter to speak directly to the american people about what he believes is right how he campaigns his campaign style is very very different than joe biden joe biden is steady on those very you know
4:19 pm
normal what we expect doesn't give us a fuselage of tweets but secondly let's talk about trust for a moment the american people have come to see how very wrong this president is and how he has a problem with the truth over and over so can we really trust what he's telling us because he began when this pandemic hit our shores by saying that this is a democrat hoax well clearly it's not a hoax but what can we trust is he doing best to perhaps recuse himself from the debates after his performance last week which even his aides agreed was a very poor performance against joe biden we don't know we have no idea but i know one thing conspiracy theories are going to abound they're going to go smear are going to skyrocket and they've already been around the u.s. for a long time this is just going to add fuel to that fire. as republicans trances on consoles and we appreciate your time on thank you very much indeed thank you so much for having me. ok let me just bring you some news from u.s.
4:20 pm
secretary of state might compare he says he will go ahead with his asia trip next week after donald trump has tested positive there was some suggestion that he may cancel lot but he's currently in croatia he had said he was reconsidering that tour but pompeo has tested negative for the virus and he is saying that he will continue on his asia tour ok let's take a closer look at the president's health now trump is 74 years old and is considered overweight both make him high risk for the coronavirus questions have been raised about his condition in june when he appeared to have difficulty drinking water and coming down from the stage at an event but he dismissed concerns about his health now in november last year trump made an unscheduled visit to the doctor for tests that's something that is normally noted in his public diary the white house said he was in good health during his campaign in 2016 trying to produce
4:21 pm
a note saying he'd be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency the doctor later said trump had written the letter him self. as an associate professor of infectious diseases at the australian national university and he spoke to my colleague some is a done and told him there's still a possibility the president will experience mild symptoms. look he could potentially despite a couple of respect us have a very mild illness and hopefully that will be the case and he will get over it we're angry cover without any major complications the 2 things against against that are his age and potential obesity as well we know that if someone is around $74.00 which which is he $74.00 also if you're over 70 the mortality rate of the death rate from this infection now it varies in studies around the world but it's around 10 percent and if someone is a beast there's about
4:22 pm
a 100 percent increased risk of being hospitalized compared to someone who isn't about a 70 percent chance of having our critically ill illness and about a 48 percent chance of dying or right now how long might it take before one would know if this virus you know if we're going to have you are going to suffer from this virus or it's going to be a mild case i mean how soon would one be able to make that determination normally you know this is quite different to start sars often early on people got unwell but with curve it it's usually early on in the 2nd week that people start to become unwell so the 1st few days of the you know this might be mild maybe that 2nd week that they start to become unwell and in fact when asked if a 48 percent chance of an obese person dying i mean of relative is not an absolute it's such
4:23 pm
a qualified and from what we know about the president's schedule in the last 2448 hours you know he's he's had a busy schedule he's appeared to campaign rallies it wasn't long ago he was at that debate in cleveland ohio would you suspect somebody with that kind of active schedule may have passed this on to many other people or many other people may have received it from wherever. he got it from as well that this is not going to be just an isolated case that's right but look at it also depends on a few things was he a symptomatic or asymptomatic if you is coughing and spluttering he may be inclined to have infected more people than if he was asymptomatic so that is important as well but context races will try and determine what or how many close contacts the hat so how many people he was in almost face to face contact for 15 minutes or so or was in the same room for more than 2 hours so those sorts of
4:24 pm
things context races i'm going to go through in great detail to try and determine the number of close contacts that the president has had ok let's cross now to joining fisher she's an associate research professor at georgetown university's medical center she's joining us on skype from washington d.c. as we heard send us an and talking about their contract tracing is going to be key to this is really being brought back into the the center of the argument now but we're talking about trying to trace an enormous number of people given the the the crowds that the president has been in contact with the campaign rallies and fundraisers over the last week alone. yes this is the kind of exercise that sometimes epidemiologists refer to as shoe leather epidemiology just really like the detective work of going from the person who's been infected to try and trace every single person that they have met to directly and what would
4:25 pm
be considered a high risk exposure that is within 6 feet for 15 minutes or more and then to go to their contacts so it is. considering how much the president and the staff directly around him have traveled and met with many groups of people in washington and around the u.s. in the past few days it is going to be a pretty herculean task this is a way for members of the public who may have been out some of these campaign rallies who may know be worried about the fact that perhaps they were there standing too close to somebody else that they weren't wearing a mask that they might have concerns or something that they can do to preempt if you like to get ahead of the contact tracing in order to help the tracing process. it's really hard for people to proactively participate and contact tracing. but what they can certainly do is be ready to cooperate with public health authorities
4:26 pm
one of the challenges that no one anticipated in context racing during the covert 19 pandemic is that we've all become so conditioned not to answer calls on our phones when we don't recognize the number that we we frequently simply block the number or ignore it and as. the different jurisdictions in the u.s. state and local communities have tried to ramp up contact tracing their frequently finding contacts are literally not getting any actual interaction with people who may be at risk so if they people who participated in events where they may have been exposed should be ready to cooperate with the contact tracers and be ready for those calls but they can also certainly look at local health department alerts there may be opportunities for testing if the health authorities in communities see that there was a high risk event and that they really need to reach out to the community and alert people to the risk and offer testing we have regularly reported of course about the
4:27 pm
difference of opinion shall we say that donald trump has compared to medical experts with regards to the spread of corona virus as i mentioned before you're a research professor of microbiology and immunology how do you feel the scientific community the medical community feels towards this news. i think we certainly all as a community wish the best for any person who is infected with coated 19 this virus can have a very mild outcome but in some people the complications are severe and life threatening and no one wishes that kind of risk to anyone that said i think there's a great hope that with this experience the president and those around him will be more receptive to listening to the advice of their own federal scientists the world experts who are trying to. convey
4:28 pm
a clear messages on how members of the public how anyone can minimize the risk of exposure and infection and. we hope that this experience in the white house will help the president and again close. his close supporters who have often dismissed the need to take very simple actions like wearing masks to decrease the risk of transmitting to others that they will see the need to take these messages more seriously and that they will be willing to support clear and coherent risk communications so that it doesn't leave. so many people confused about who to believe and doesn't create confusion about what the best evidence we have now suggests that every one of us can do to diminish our risk of infection and if we are infected trying to protect others during freshers' from georgetown
4:29 pm
university's medical center as always we appreciate your time and thank you very much indeed thank you ok we're hearing from u.s. house speaker nancy pelosi she's saying that continuity plans are in place after president tests positive for virus nancy pelosi says going into crowds without a mask was quote a brazen invitation to the virus. several world leaders have sent their well wishes to the trumps russian president vladimir putin wished his american counterpart a swift recovery saying his vitality good spirits and optimism will help him cope the prime minister of india also reacting on twitter saying wishing my friend donald trump and the 1st lady millennium a quick recovery and good health. we've also heard from the president of the european council for modern not let's go to dominic cain who's in dominick there are your leaders who are holding a summit in berlin at the moment they're clearly going to be reacting to. the news
4:30 pm
that donald trump has to run a virus. the president of the european council shiela was the 1st e.u. leader to express his his perspective about the waters happens to president trump and to the 1st lady on twitter he. put out a message saying that he wished them well that the the fight against coronavirus is something that affects everybody no matter where they live now the point here is that the european council of all the heads of state heads of government is meeting in brussels and many different leaders and heads of govern heads of state as i say have expressed their points of view we've heard from the polish president and rush duda who is an ally of president trump who spoke about the relationship between the
4:31 pm
2 countries preowned the united states and wishing well the president and the 1st lady and angela merkel also has gone front of a camera in brussels to say that she wishes donald and melania in her words the best they make a speedy recovery from this virus remember from a political perspective in the european union this pandemic has killed very many people has infected a very many people and is cause real economic hardship right across the continent it's taken the european union have several different important summit meetings in which the different leaders have spoken about the need to find some kind of big financial solution and now all of a sudden they see somebody with whom many of them have worked over the course of these. 3 and a half years also of the trumpet ministration someone laid low by this virus and so that explains why they are wishing well the president and the 1st lady and remember
quote
4:32 pm
of course that there are some leaders here with whom well mr trump may not have seen eye to eye and yet today many of them particularly from the center rights of politics have been expressing their hope that he makes a very speedy recovery donna came talking to us from berlin dominic thank you very much indeed all the opening bell on wall street really just rang a few minutes ago u.s. stock futures in global markets took a tumble not a mr trump announced and tested positive for the virus christensen is joining us live from new york christine i understand of course that many of these reactions can all this can be attributed to. them as an automations of computers basically reacting to preprogramed situations just talk us through what the markets have been doing particularly around the world. well markets are lower around the world then it looks like the united states is going to follow suit the opening bell just sounded and already markets are declining the dow
4:33 pm
is down more than one and a half points the s. and p. also down more than want to have points not quite as low as predicted by the futures markets but again we're in early early part of the day here it's only been a few minutes and the markets of course are reacting to the shock of the news about the president and what this will mean not only for the election but also for the economy moving forward so that is something that they're going to be considering all day long the. of course this could have an impact on the president and his ability to campaign the question of whether or not the next debate will continue as scheduled. for markets in particular though the concern is financial and what this means for the economy of course and this news of the president testing positive for the coronavirus comes as congress continues to struggle with the stimulus bill the house did pass
4:34 pm
a 2.2 trillion dollars stimulus bill but republicans have indicated that there's no chance that that will move forward so that's very uncertain going forward there are signs also this morning of a weakening economic recovery with the new jobs report so the markets will be processing all of that today on the jobs front i can tell you a little bit about that this is the last major report before the election on the recovery of the economy here and it shows that unemployment is inching down it's headed in the right direction but point levels are at 7.4 percent that's still twice what they were prior to the pandemic so while the united states did add 660000 new jobs in the last month that's not as much as it had been adding in the previous months as it attempted to recover not. overwhelm you with numbers but the economy was seeing a 1000000 new jobs added each month prior to september so while things are headed
4:35 pm
in the right direction for the united states economy all of this is raising the prospects of perhaps the strength of a 2nd wave and investors are reassessing after what has been pretty strong month for them what this is going to mean for the election and for the economy going forward christine thanks very much as you've been talking we've just been watching the figures and as you say they're beginning to gradually come back up we're done about minus 1.04 percent is buzzing around that at the moment we'll keep an eye on it of course but christine so let me thanks for watching the stock exchange for us ok president sean is joining a growing list of world leaders who've been infected in iran dozens of politicians and religious leaders of contract to the virus that includes cabinet members as well as senior vice president john and he and vice president of muscle me ed ticket in july a brazilian president juggles enough to announce he'd called it he'd been one of
4:36 pm
the most prominent voices trying to minimize the illness calling it a little flu and floating social distancing measures the british prime minister bogus johnson was admitted to in sense of care and april he later said he was lucky to be discharged after a week and the doctors and nurses quote saved his life no question ok let's not speak to not being bothered is joining us live from london it's quite obvious of course that boris johnson is going to know exactly what it's like when you're trying to run a country and then you get hit by a virus like this. absolutely you are just outlining what he went through back in late march and early april and in fact boris johnson has been one of the 1st world 'd leaders to put out a message of support for president trump and his wife in the last few hours based not just on that close friendship that they've struck up but based on boris johnson's own personal experience of being in a hospital with covered $193.00 nights of his hospital stay being in intensive
4:37 pm
care and as you were saying leading to dark days in which in his words things could have gone either way let's have a listen to what he said just a few hours ago well obviously i think we all want to send best wishes to the president and the 1st lady and i've done that this morning as you can imagine and i'm sure that they'll both stage a very strong recovery. well boris johnson is to some extent and in a changed man after his experience when he came out of hospital he paid tribute to medical workers who he said had saved his life he then started a fitness regime including daily runs and he has lost weight and just this week in fact reporters asked him whether he had fully recovered from coverage 19 he said he was far healthier than he had been previously due mainly to losing weight and in
4:38 pm
the last few months he's actually trying to start an initiative to fight the big problem here in the u.k. of obesity at the same time initially what he went through seems to actually increase his personal popularity ratings into april but then they've actually started to go down following controversies over the way the government's handled things like testing for coronavirus things like protective equipment for frontline workers and other issues so i think there was a lot of public sympathy for boris johnson as well it's not clear exactly how his experience will compare to the u.s. presidents but certainly boris johnson has taken the whole danger the whole fate toilet seat of coronavirus more seriously one can say van for example president also naro in brazil not him thanks very much indeed that's not reporting
4:39 pm
to us from london ok we're getting an official statement from the white house donald trump is a partly experiencing mild symptoms of coronavirus after the positive test we're also hearing that ivanka trump and jutted questioner have tested negative for covert on friday a white house aide carolina harley on twitter is saying that trump's teenage son barton is testing negative for cover 19 that is from an official spokeswoman. it is time for the weather and here's everson yesterday robe we were talking about wildfires in central parts of south america because of the extreme heat and because of the low humidity how hot so i ask you club 4243 degrees really hot weather you can see the clear skies across central parts of south america billick a little further south just to the north of want to say there is a little area cloud in there that's a cold front in the very very active cold front behind behind that just to the
4:40 pm
south of that front we're seeing temperatures no higher than around $1415.00 degrees and something like a $25.00 degree difference in temperatures when you get a temperature contrast like that you get big clouds you get fun the storms you get big hail clouds big enough to make this dog turn its head and have a look back in this sort of size of hail that we're looking for damaging winds bits and pieces of large hail she could see there a good. 10 centimeters something like that so that's got to hurt if you get hit by one of those going to have a bit of a problem there you go with that wet weather just around here why 16 celsius and want to say we're still getting up to 44 degrees there in a rio very very big temperature contrast further thundery downpours certainly likely and those storms will remain across to the southeast of brazil as we go on into saturday the cooler where winning out there but some very very lively weather because the some lively weather to into the caribbean over the next couple of days this system such as storms here that might will develop into

now on this on this day for 5 or 6 days on since the conflict broke out and also it appears to be that the as aerial thirty's usury military is targeting roads into karabakh from the armenian side one of their bombs destroyed a strategic bridge a little while earlier so yes the fighting has shows no sign of abating. robin just let's talk about this cease fire because i mean as i say is alleging that it's ready to work with mediators in order to fight try to find some sort of route towards a cease fire but is it too early to start looking at that as a positive. one would have to treat it with caution i think the armenians are in no hurry to seek a ceasefire solution unless they hear the same coming from the other side and

international mediators of allowing armenia to occupy as airlines for decades and an interview with al jazeera says it's about time the u.n. security council resolutions undergone a cutback are implemented. the main reason is that media doesn't want peace they want to keep our land under occupation for ever they don't want to cheat the status quo and this is a reason why i lasted so long because otherwise if i mean it demonstrated real and acted in compliance with the resolutions of main international organizations the conflict would have been resolved many years ago because back in 1915 when armenia occupied part of our territories. un security council adopted 40 solutions demanding immediate full and and unconditional withdrawal of

friends and family of his colleagues who gathered outside the consulate in the past couple of hours had for the international community which was to put pressure on saudi arabia to ensure that it comes out so that it could at least allow for these slain journalists to have a proper burial something that seems unlikely considering saudis rejection for over 24 months now it has been a long 24 months and in that period there have been court cases there have been maneuverings it's a highly politicized case we take a look back at what's happened over the past couple of years. despite it being one of the most notorious crimes in recent history 2 years have gone by and still justice has not been served in the murder case well jamal khashoggi 24 months on the focus on the saudi journalist who entered his country's consulate in istanbul never to be seen again may have died down but the outrage remains. krishnaji had been writing for the washington post the 1st anniversary of his murder was mocked

other actors particular lee outside saudi arabia to put pressure and to do all they can to ensure that accountability is delivered now we know that it will be very difficult to get those who ordered the crime in front of a court. if indeed it is mohamed bin sentiment as a cia as suggested more than a year ago that said there are all other ways of ensuring that at the very least choice is being delhi verd and that the very least saudi arabia feel the pressure political i dial that here can i ask you dr callandar it doesn't seem as though they are feeling any pressure has the lack of justice and accountability in this case sort of led to some kind of normalization in the way extrajudicial killings of viewed a you worry that something like this could happen again. well of course i am

a whole is very politicized it's a hold on to the power play in power politics about how difficult does that make your work. of course it makes it extraordinarily difficult the whole environment at the moment is one of normative counter-revolution it's one of the several countries distracting the international system and other countries fighting over which is gonna dominate the contras cannot be trusted to to keep hammering those messages and to put pressure on those who don't so we are we are working in an extraordinarily difficult and environment that there is absolutely no doubt this is why i think when action taken we need to highlight doors and we need to push for more i've talked about the actions taken by the mayor of many cities
