girlfriend there are many people that contracted the virus and would have been reported was that he and the people that surround him were being more lax about things weren't wearing masks weren't he protective measures and so obviously he's going to contract it at some point but this present a problem for him because he's been trying to downplay the virus to the american public he said many times this is going to go away it's just like the flu this is no big deal and as the report already mentioned he was making fun of joe biden programming a mask so he's going to have to really work out what kind of messages you want to send to the american public about this now he's trying to project an image of strength of worse and he doesn't want the campaign to be about the virus this really puts a wrench in his can be because he wants it to be about law and order and that is writing where elected to total chaos instead all we're focusing on is the virus and

this doesn't bode well for him to take only because 40 percent of americans or only 40 percent american see that he's handling the crisis well jason how does he go forward with the election campaign if this is the best case scenario and 2 weeks from now he comes out of locked isolation quarantine he looks a bit peaky he's lost some weight he's a bit pale but he's able to go to one of his rallies he lives eats and sleeps that kind of politics that's his natural environment of course it is but what if he can't do that how does the election campaign move forward. you know i think that's a great question and i think the supporters need the long route i mean the president needs to be around the orders of these 2 weeks are going to be very difficult i think for the campaign i think it's the joe biden campaign is kind of well it will be a virtual campaign whereas the trump campaign has not really adjusted as well into

the virtual campaigning world but once he gets back on the campaign trail in 2 weeks. i just buying them are really dumb from all that i know run a virus and how to fix the body and obviously i'm not a doctor but there's a days of the 90 minute speeches on his route really long winded the long winded diatribe i've read that's what i think you'll see most or so it's going to be a much different paint and it's going to be a much different feeling rally i think they're back home and. let's go back to what you were talking about at the top of the show you what kind of discussing the optics of the next immediate week or so in theory would days away from vice president pence squaring off against us how can that happen or if it does happen how can that happen with both candidates not being masked up. right well there are 2 halves of this one is the campaign half and the other is what's going on in the white house in the background on the campaign half i'm guessing that the vice

presidential debates are now debate is now going to be much more important and i am even wondering whether or not the 2nd presidential debate will end up 2nd vice presidential debate so that if the primary candidates cannot debate it maybe the parties decide to substitute another vice presidential debate so i think it will shift the attention to some extent from the presidential candidates to the vice presidential candidates but what you've got going on in the background is a white house that will be in complete and utter disarray 1st of all we don't know how far this virus is going to spread so there have been images playing since this was announced last night of hope it all the various people hope it has been with including jared cushion or so yvonne and jarratt could well end up testing positive

we know that pence has tested negative but how far will this threat it throws into relief all of the things that democratic governors in particular have been stressing such as the need for testing the need for contact tracing the need for wearing masks the need for staying 6 feet apart not gathering in crowds all things that this administration has been flouting and when you add to that the stories that have come out about jarrett cush nurtures commission that he put together to fight the virus which came up with plans that were later scrapped because they decided it would only affect democratic states or democratic areas it really starts to look as though this campaign is going to fall. natasha are we now in a sense in real time seeing

a kind of an adopted stance on the part of the wider republican party when it comes to dealing with covert changing i.e. do they have to accept let the science prevail we've got to now see surely every presidential candidate every vice presidential candidate every congressman every senator wearing a mask they've got to allow the science to prevail because they've got to get that message out there that if you're an oil 3 and somebody sneezes nille 2 you can pick it up if you're in an in an enclosed space what comes out of my nose could get you 26 feet away from where i'm standing. well i think you have 2 things here you have politicians in the republican party who have been mostly wearing masks and hearing to guidelines but they have been very vocal about it and that's been one of the problems and i think your question is illustrating the you have the republican base and those that are supporting trump and trump has not encouraged people to wear

masks and you had attorney general bar as it already going to mention acting like this was a huge violation of our civil rights and we have to be wearing masks and the like so republicans may need to up their communication on the importance of wearing masks that this is not a violation of our civil rights it is actually something we do for the better of the community to prevent the spread this is the one big thing that we can do to just mitigate this crisis and then we may see more republican stepping up to do so they just don't want to go against prop they are so incredibly loyal to him and terms big message this is no big deal it's going to go away let's not take it that seriously but we've seen with the you know the tapes that bob woodward has reported he didn't know it was serious he didn't know it was a problem but he's very afraid of doing anything that would go against what his base wishes are and so we'll see i think most likely going to have more republicans

coming out in support of massacring him like jason do you think mr trump will get a sympathy to just to push their case and you think you'll get a sympathy between now and the election the reason i ask you that is this boris johnson the u.k. prime minister he came out of i.c.u. came out of recovery and he got a distinct sympathy pounds but he at that point was 3 and a half years from a general election if your guy gets a sympathy bones and goes back on the campaign trail he's days away from a u.s. election or might it backfire against him because people might say well you don't protect yourself and hello you haven't protected the 200000 plus people who are dead in this country so get gone we're going to miss the vice. well let me 1st just say that i believe republican governors republican governor my state not only has had a month long campaign on the importance of learning math in the years gone through our arts and cutting commercial let's play multiple times today with him and other

time i still believe especially given the fact that it appears that vice president pence has tested negative so there is no continuity of government problem at the moment i do think that voting would still take place and even if it's understood that if you vote for president trump there could be a chance that it will go to vice president pence but there is continuity of government there i think there's every reason to think that the election will take place as scheduled and that it must take place as scheduled the chaos that the country would be thrown into will will it will already i think be a great deal of us we're dealing with a situation in which we have one contested aspect of this election after another from the post office to supreme court decisions about.

scuse me wisconsin supreme court decisions on the mail in ballots and absentee ballots constant debate about how the election should take place worries about securities and security and foreign influence there as there are so many pressures on this election add to that a pandemic at that a supreme court fight. you know barely a month before the election and now add to that the president with covert to delay the election would simply throw the country into an intolerable level of chaos natasha coming back to you given that mr trump is properly sick given that his wife is properly sick there are so many variables here but i guess there is if we flip

that around one certainty mr trump now is not going to talk about turning the corner it'll be a beautiful thing it'll just go away he will never poke fun at anyone for wearing a mask ever again he will never turn to a scientific advisor and say i think we can shine a light through the body i think that gets rid of it or you know that perception there was that perception right about march april where he basically said to people the perception was drink bleach some people did some people were hospitalized so i guess that's one certainty that conversation will that conversation is dead and buried. yeah i mean i think this is really gravely difficult for trump on a number of fronts of course it's difficult because he's personally you know he's contracted the virus and he's going to have to tikrit care himself and try to recover and it really may change his words and what he says about the virus but i think as it already mentioned this is really going to affect his ability to

campaign and that's something that he loves doing he cries when he's on that he need trail and he's coming from behind it's not like he's coasting ahead and sort of assume that most people were going to vote for him and he was going to win and he really needed to add numbers he needed to gain support in some key swing states particularly in the state of florida where it's very tight he absolutely has to win that state this is a state with a good percentage of older voters and he's really losing them where he had won in 2016 by double digits ordinarily. with florida older voters and now he's neck and neck with joe biden this year the coronavirus and how he says handled it is not going to help there so i think it's going to be very difficult for him moving forward because he really needs to add momentum to the campy turn the campaign around that he has any chance of actually pulling out a victory last word on the program to jason jason not wishing to put words into your mouth that 2 main takeaways one where
