as the state tries to get ahead of the quickening spread there while let's go live to our white house correspondent kimberly halkett who is outside at walter reed military hospital so kimberly you've been there for hours really waiting for an update we're waiting perhaps for a press statement but actually we got the news a via twitter how do you see the latest developments 2. well this is clearly a president who is eager to get out of the hospital we've known for at least 24 hours and that was confirmed by his chief of staff mark meadows and the president has continued to try and project strength through out his illness he has often commented that that is what is required of a leader and he believes that this is that moment for him now so any time there has been a negative report about his condition we've seen the president try to get ahead of that narrative this is no exception the question marks about whether or not the
10:05 pm
president will spend another night in the hospital it's very clear this president wanted to get ahead of this try and get this information out even before his own medical team updated the president's condition with the media now we had been expecting this for a number of hours we knew this determination was likely to come in terms of whether the president could return to the white house but the question becomes what the prognosis is for this president because we know that covert 19 can evan flow that it can have some improvement and then especially with older people if the president's came. and also with some underlying health conditions that can again take a turn for the worse now we're not far from washington d.c. about a 30 minute drive from the white house it's very easy for the president get back here if necessary there's also a medical suite inside the white house but it doesn't have the tools that would be available here at the walter reed medical center so the president we now know ahead in back the question is will be going by helicopter will be going by motorcade as
10:06 pm
we saw him briefly doing on sunday with much controversy there are a large number of his supporters that are here certainly he may want to acknowledge them as well but when the president does return to the white house as you reported he returns to a growing number of infections due to covert 1000 as a result of that now known as a super spreader event in the rose garden about 10 days ago with the nomination of amy coney barrett to the supreme court and kimberly i mean you're outside the hospital obviously we are still waiting to hear some kind of news conference press conference from doctors there aren't we. yeah we're expecting to hear from the president medical team exactly the status and this is really been an ongoing issue since the president was admitted there has been a bit of a lack of transparency when it comes to the president's prognosis and his current condition obviously the there is a need to not project alarm but at the same time there is
10:07 pm
a duty an obligation to give honesty to the american people particularly in advance of a presidential election 29 days away and the criticism has been that that has not been the case that there has been this somewhat optimistic picture painted only to find out later the president at one point had a fever of 103 degrees fahrenheit that he also at one point needed oxygen and at one point was taking a bit of a turn for the worse now he has been under a number of therapies that have allowed him to bounce back but as the president said in his tweet that he feels better than he ever has and not to be afraid of code it very easy to say when you're president of the united states and you are afforded some of the best health care in the country if not the world not necessarily the case for a working class american who may not have health insurance and wouldn't have the same access robber to nitty or even be able to afford to go go to a hospital so this is one of the contrasts we expect will be drawn in the coming
10:08 pm
days and weeks but for now the headline seems to be about the president his condition and how he will return to the white house which we now understand is imminent. absolutely and kimberly we will speak to you again of course after we've heard a from the president's medical team we're meant to be hearing from them any minute now until then kimberly halkett outside the walter reed military hospital thank you . well the number of confirmed corona virus cases worldwide has now passed 35000000 but the world health organization says about a 10th of the world's population may have been infected meaning most people are still at risk its director general is calling for global unity to defeat the virus i will never be tired of calling for solidarity finger pointing will not prevent a single infection apportioning blame will not save

have to hold you in actions. ok let's take you now to military hospital where we are going to have a news conference from the president medical team let's listen in good afternoon everyone thank you for being here over the past 24 hours the president has continued to improve he's met or exceeded all standard hospital discharge criteria to receive another dose of rendez of you here today and then we plan to get him home. it's been more than 72 hours since his last fever. oxygen levels including ambulatory saturations and his work of breathing or all normal. though he may not entirely be out of the woods yet the team and i agree that all are evaluations and most importantly he's clinical status support the president safe return home where he'll be surrounded by world class medical care 247. i'd

like to bring dr julie up to review some more cities with specifics. good afternoon just a brief update this morning as dr kali mentioned the president continues to do very well his vital signs us morning. are notable for a temperature of 98 point one his blood pressure was 13478. 17 respiration per minute his heart rate was $68.00 beats per minute and his last oxy hemoglobin saturation was 97 percent on room air he currently. does not endorse any respiratory complaints and aside from our evaluation with the multidisciplinary team this morning has maintained a full schedule dating and working on the white house medical unit. i'll turn it over to dr again discuss their puter x x. hi good afternoon again it's one of the echo the sentiment of what an honor it is to to be
10:14 pm
part of this this wonderful team here at walter reed yesterday evening the president received his 3rd severe he tolerated that infusion without difficulty and his kidney and liver function continue to be normal our plan is to give the 4th dose of run for this evening before he goes back to the white house and we've made arrangements to deliver the 5th and final dose of his treatment course at the white house tomorrow evening he continues on deck some of his own and again the plan for today is to continue to be up and out of bed eat and drink and work as he is able. to turn it over to dr jason who's an infectious disease specialist and the chief of medicine here at walter reed to give some updates on infection control thank you. good afternoon everyone 1st of all i just want to say what an honor it's been to be part of this medical team behind me and to care for the president. since the president's arrival at walter reed he's received medical management that remains in line with national clinical societal guidelines for treatment of coping 1000 in

fact. in addition myself and dr west campbell have worked very closely with various laboratories in the area state of the our facilities to include you samara in rare on obtaining advanced diagnostic testing to really inform the white house medical team of both the status of the president as well as his ability to transmit virus to others also we have worked very closely with the walter reed team to ensure that we are looking very closely at infection control prevention strategies and the right posture so that the president can safely return to his residence and without a minute turn it over to dr conley who will answer any final questions. that you. mention it said today and i'd like to reiterate myself just how grateful the president and i are to the men and women who will to read a colleague at johns hopkins as well as the many federal private institutions that
10:16 pm
we receive support from. and so long as everything continues on the track that we're we're experiencing right now this time as the president already tweeted out. is to get him home later today. with that'll take a couple questions. back to the white house when he was given steroids here that he's on their steroids and their medicine as you know that are usually given to cohabit patients who are on ventilators or with low oxygen so did you over 310 minute based on that medication because it's safe for him to return to the white house he said we send patients home with medications all the time he in fact yesterday afternoon you probably met most of his discharge requirements safely from the hospital and he's returning to a facility to a house medical unit that's staffed 247 top notch physicians nurses p.a.'s logisticians and the unit here the team here behind me is going to continue to
10:17 pm
support us in that nature and. wider infection control measures are you taking and how was it safe for him to drive around in a cotton mouth yesterday and how is it safe for him not to return to the white house where there's been so many cases i was only of a say so the. the president has been surrounded by medical and security staff for days wearing full p.p. . and yesterday the u.s. secret service agents were in that same level of p.p. effect for a very short period of time we worked with our infectious disease experts. to make some recommendations for how to keep everything safe down at the white house for the president and those around him. we're looking at where he's going to be able to carry out his duties. you know office space and not just say that it's in line with everything we've been doing upstairs for this for the last several days are you.
10:18 pm
asking your time i did it last may get it that way that there is no it wasn't planned failing to remember when you had a flat negative i don't want to go backwards. for people on the moral grounds and i understand the context of this thing as i understand it is being done i'm not involved in that so we're already there with this something you know so we try to get patients home and out of the hospital. as quickly as is safe and reasonable every day a patient stays in the hospital unnecessarily is a risk to themselves and right now there's nothing that's being done upstairs here that we can't safely conduct down home. 7 to 10 days was a window that you'd be concerned about i don't think we're there yet so do you have concerns about potential worsening or reversal and what are your plans for addressing that if it were to happen you're absolutely right and that's why. we all
10:19 pm
remain cautiously optimistic and on guard because we're in a bit of unchartered territory when it comes to a patient that received the therapy she has so early in the course so we're looking to this weekend if we can get through to monday with him remaining the same or improving better yet then we will all take that final deep sigh of relief. but as i said 247 world class medical care surrounding him down there we're not going to miss anything that we were caught up here. got to be in the white house how do what does that look like how do you keep it safely quarantined i wish i could go into that more but i just can't what do you. treat me. so that has something to do yesterday we talked about that several separate drops in his oxygen and we discussed that as a team and elected to start it early in case that persisted or worse and the
10:20 pm
potential risks and side effects we all discussed we looked at the data and decided that we'd rather you know push ahead on it than hold and risk you know the opposite . of the 1st 3 what have you heard over the campaign as far as travel goes we'll see. about whether you have that. same thing is there any thought of. any there from the fire no i think you've seen the videos and now the tweets and you see him shortly you know. he's he's back yeah. for any information and a lot of that oh so we we've done routine standard imaging i'm just not at liberty to discuss that you're you're obviously not telling us what yeah yeah that's clear
10:21 pm
so there are hipaa rules and regulations that restrict me in sharing certain things for his safety and his and his own health and reasons how many times he said his oxygen drops several times can you hear how many times you but i'm thinking you think you i mean are thinking yeah. yeah yes yes so he he the 2 episodes that we talked about yesterday and both times that he received a little bit of oxygen and every covered immediately that required. no was required he wasn't short of breath he wasn't looking ill it was more of us trying to anticipate needs and see how he responded in both cases came right off he didn't he didn't need it for very long at all you were on board air force one for multiple trips are you at all concerned about your own exposure and exposure to the medical team i am concerned. as the c.d.c. says there are caveats for essential employees that as long as you continue to test
10:22 pm
negative. you remain symptom free and you keep a mask on when you're out and about which we do inside the hospital 247 then you can carry on your duties. rather to do a head bad has a big hit you to get out of here. the president has been phenomenal patient during his stay here and he's he's been working hand in glove with us in the team and today got to the point he's holding court with the with those of us around him the whole team going over all the specifics the testing what the future is. and and we we have been back and forth on what's safe and what's reasonable and he has never once pushed us to do anything that was beyond safe and reasonable practice that we all 1st wanted you recommended against the president leaving you're going
10:23 pm
back to the white house today. no. that's right don't be afraid of cold it do you agree with that we know you're for it i'm not going to get into what the president says. heart liver and kidney function was normal or improving improving does that mean that there were facts and if at all normal like what's up with that yeah it's all it's all normal right now i would say he appeared to be a little dehydrated friday. he got he was able to just drink and recover from that and yeah everything looks great. on for you what sort of thing for you so the 1st thing that we need to do is that there is no evidence of live virus still present that he could possibly transmit to others and that's what the infectious disease experts and some of our partners military civilian entities do in some of these advanced diagnostics just to see as
10:24 pm
soon as we can identify that routinely we talk about a 10 day window you know c.d.c. guidelines but we were checking him more routinely than just waiting 10 days there's a possibility it's earlier than that there's a chance that it's a little bit later but we will know as soon as possible and then we will look at him clinically how you feeling how you do it. you know you take your eye drops the core of the president very if you. were to go into all of our debates about specific medicines and therapies there are. dozens of therapies that we were made aware of that we considered that we discussed and debated and looked. you know the existing literature on. and this is the regimen which shows you are well it will be different having some of the buffalo doesn't offer something here and now. you know we were just talking about that what symptoms he has left and he he's he and even
10:25 pm
a slight cough that he used to have it isn't really complain of at all he hasn't ever complained of muscle aches. and yeah he says he's up and back to my old self predominantly. one day just to be clear how long will he still be actively shedding the virus. so this this morning i believe there is even an accounting by dr phil she referencing a a 5 day the 1st 5 days of illness that you know people are most likely to shed live virus. there's a reason there's the 10 days is because most people by the time after 7 days. most folks don't have cultural live virus they put it to 10 just to give some extra space it's never 100 percent you know between everybody so we will see i can't i'm not going to put a specific number but we look at that that window is all i. can find to his residence or will you be allowed to return to the oval office we're going to do
10:26 pm
whatever it takes for the president to safely conduct business wherever is it is he needs to do within the residence and white house and it would have done it if you know what the owner is and also has he been using a been giving him a call at all had been that you know that you know here i would like to say he has not been on a new fever reducing medications for over 72 hours. he's on a routine regimen of you know covert therapy i'm not going to go into specifics as to what he is and is not on but. you know that the president had a mild of the name of it yesterday and then. on thursday night. but i am probably going to get squashed you know the reason you know when the president was negative as did the board and for that reason your words when you said and also for the contact 3 thing but would you recommend they did that given that that number that you go to the president got about 10 minutes there at fundraiser. it's not up to me
10:27 pm
necessarily the president's schedule but i would say that it wasn't until after we returned that we really sat down there knowing the news of the day that we really do want to have how are you feeling what's what's going on. with the fact that he was experiencing on thursday i'm not going to get into you know operations was his last negative test and what was his viral load everyone wants that. yeah you know i don't i don't have his viral load those are some of the diagnostics that we're sending out that will really tell us when it's safe for him to get back out and around people. as negative ads are all right i mean a lot. i'm not again. become a recluse me from going into too much depth and things that. you know i'm not liberty or doesn't wish to be discussed at some future point maybe today so i think
10:28 pm
that's it. thank you. thank you thank you ok so we've been hearing from donald trump's medical team a few hours of course before we are expecting the president to leave hospital lizzie announced via tweets now they're saying the president isn't out of the woods just yet but he has been cleared to go home he'll receive his 5th dose over. on tuesday at barack at the white house he hasn't had a fever in 72 hours and the oxygen levels are normal let's cross live to our white house correspondent kelly halket was actually outside the walter reed military hospital. in both. right there and was listening to that news conference i suppose considering that the president had just tweeted that he was leaving they couldn't really say anything else what did you make overall of the details that they gave and also what they didn't say.
10:29 pm
yeah i think you really hit the nail on the head there it's what they didn't say i think the headline from this is that they have admitted that the president is well enough to leave the hospital but they have not said that he was well enough to hit the campaign trail in fact the timeline for that as they focus forward is very clear that they believe that the president will not be technically out of the woods if you will until monday so that is a week from now for a president very eager to get back to campaigning with an election less than 29 days away now this is probably not welcome news we've already seen the president campaigning from his hospital room and so he may continue to do that now from the medical unit of the white house where we heard from his physician that there is a complete outfit of nurses and doctors 24 hours a day in order to ensure that he remains in good health but again the president
10:30 pm
will not be able to leave that he is still technically dealing with cope with 19 now the other headline that seems to be in there is what was not said you heard a reporter asking about the president's lung scans was there any damage we know that covert 19 can attack the heart it can attack the lungs leaving starring the reference you heard there of the physician multiple times is that you couldn't because of hipaa regulations that something specific to the united states is patient privacy it is strongly enforced in the medical community and so that is what was being utilized to prevent reporters from probing too deep into that question now begs the question why was he not sharing that information and yet sharing other hip hop. attracted information we simply don't know the answer to that except that perhaps the white house not feeling particularly forthcoming with this information so far we're left to kind of guess but this is consistent with the information that we've been hearing since friday at times.
