tv   NEWSHOUR  Al Jazeera  November 5, 2020 1:00pm-2:01pm +03

1:00 pm
the algorithm on the jersey of a lot of the stories that we cover all hardly conflicts so it's very important that we make them as on the standard well as we care as ours is there a corresponding stress will be strong to do. this is. how they're on the stand and this is the news hour live from our headquarters here and coming up in the next 60 minutes i'm not here to that we want. but i am here to report to the counters finished we believe we will be the winners democratic candidate joe biden says he is close to victory as president donald trump launches a legal challenge. the race to the white house remains incredibly tight the final
1:01 pm
results will be determined by key battleground states where votes are still being counted. tanzania's president john mcafee is sworn in for a 2nd time amid tight security as the opposition calls for new elections. in the u.k. gets a new multibillion dollar rescue package to boost its economy as a glint enters a new kind of a block down mission. time far as small have all the day's sports including pressure mounts on manchester united boss only going to stall sure as his side loses again this time in istanbul in the champions league. we begin this news hour as americans are waking up to another day of uncertainty over who will be the next president right now it is 5 am on the east coast and in the u.s. state of georgia these are live pictures from there where vote counting as you can see has been going through the night it's an extremely close race and
1:02 pm
a traditionally republican states and donald trump's initial lead has been steadily falling georgia is one of the one of several states where republicans are fighting legal challenges over this election. let's take a look at the state of play biden has already flipped michigan and wisconsin that. 4 years ago the democratic candidate now has the projected total of 264 electoral college votes while trump is projected to win 214 remember a candidate needs 270 to win here in yellow you can see the states that are still being divided and decided nevada in the west georgia of course north carolina as well and of course pennsylvania. well the associated press is projecting a win for biden in arizona but this has been disputed by the campaign we are following the associated press count here at al jazeera english biden's lead over trump there has narrowed in recent hours in that battleground state is worth
1:03 pm
a crucial 11 electoral college votes well as i mentioned vote counting is still ongoing in georgia trump leads there by about 28000 votes but what might help joe biden is that most of the remaining votes are from atlanta and its suburbs which lean democratic we are expecting more days up from there in the coming hours well north carolina is one of the states where trump has already claimed victory but the result is actually still too close to call in this state mail in ballots postmarked by election day are accepted until november 12th and we are also still waiting on pennsylvania the state where joe biden was born trumps lead here is again shrinking the remaining mail ballots are mostly from the democratic leaning cities of philadelphia and pittsburgh getting by them the chance to catch up pennsylvania is another state where trump has also filed a lawsuit and there is no valid biden is narrowly in the lead this western state has 6 electoral votes that would be enough to get him to the magic number of 270.
1:04 pm
teams are still in place across the united states our white house correspondent kimberly healthcare in washington d.c. for us mike hanna and joe biden's home state of delaware and we also have rob reynolds he's standing by to discuss nevada another close count but 1st how do you call all the developments so far. former vice president joe biden projecting confidence he will be the next president and he may have taken a step closer he says at a press to clarion he's won the states of wisconsin and michigan giving him more electoral college votes and an easier path to that you 70 that will get him to the white house and now after a long night of county it's clear that we're one new enough states to reach 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency i'm not here to clear that we've won but i am here to report when the count is finished we believe
1:05 pm
we will be the winners but u.s. president donald trump is demanding a recount in wisconsin after falling short by around 20000 votes even his most ardent supporters doubt that will change anything former wisconsin governor scott walker tweeting out a recount and 2016 trumps numbers went up by 131 and the counting continues in the states that will decide the election with state officials asking for patience give the public servants the opportunity to do their job and what i will tell you is that karen pennsylvania we're going to follow the law and we will respect the will of the people and the crop her victory will be certified based on who got more votes the president is suing to stop the counting in some states his surrogates saying falsely that the election is being stolen to win for a republican to win here how many votes do we have to be at 400000 is not enough with 80 plus percent counted i think there's only 14 percent of the vote to go. if
1:06 pm
you think we're stupid you think we're false the president is complaining on twitter they're finding biden votes all over the place in pennsylvania wisconsin and michigan so bad for country to be clear they're not finding ballots but counting ones that come in on time according to state laws and there is a question about whether the postal service run by a trump loyalist interfered in getting ballots delivered on time define a federal judge's order tuesday to do a sweep for ballots they refused potentially leaving hundreds of thousands not counted the one thing this election has clearly shown america is a nation divided it really does seem like people live in 2 different realities given like the news they consume and who they surround themselves with so i i am not that surprise that a lot of people decided to vote again for a president who has brought us so where we are with several cases winding their way
1:07 pm
through the courts as the votes are counted and america and the world waits to see who eked out a win in this fractured country. al-jazeera well that speech white house correspondent candy how could she is watching all the action on fall for us from washington can be so many razor thin margins with all these ongoing counts and some contentious calls for instance in arizona what's the feeling like in the camp at the moment. the feeling is that has been from the beginning with respect to arizona that it is still within reach that's why the president was furious when on election night it was called by at least one news network fox news network his favorite news network for his rival joe biden so the president feels very confident about that he had a clear public schedule when say that as the same again today thursday we expect that the president is going to do what he did on wednesday and that is continue to
1:08 pm
work the phones speak with local officials try and figure out if there is still a path to victory now the u.s. president also believing and being very optimistic about the u.s. state of georgia but as you have reported that lead that he has has been narrowing significantly kimberly i see an army of lawyers has already been deployed what legal challenges should we be expecting and when. well we already know that there are legal challenges that have been launched in a number of states including wisconsin michigan georgia pennsylvania and now the president eyeing other additional states we expect that we'll have more news about that what we do know is that in some cases these have been hastily filed but then again we also know that both sides have been amassing legal teams for quite some time so you know this could play out quickly it could be slow it depends on the state it depends on the judge but what is certain is that the u.s.
1:09 pm
president is prepared to go all the way to the supreme court or of course he has shifted the balance with his recent appointment of any tony barrett further to the right candy how could that white house correspondent in washington d.c. thanks so much ken really well let's now speak to mike hanna he's an biden's home state of delaware and from there he joins us from wilmington mike we've been hearing there from kimberly about what the trump camps been saying what has been the biden camp's response to all of this i know they will so have legions of lawyers at the ready to. well indeed yes but they've also known for months that this was a possibility they were preparing for trump legal action should the result be close because basically trump to his campaign made no secret of it whatsoever they've been saying for weeks if not months that if the result is close they will be taking whatever legal avenue they can so what happened with the biting campaign
1:10 pm
is that the top legal man with joe biden bob bauer he's a former counsel in the obama white house he set up what it's called 'd a boiler room it's a collection of lawyers who got together based in various parts of the country they've been preparing for exactly this and they are being deployed to counter all of the arguments being presented by the campaign by the various republican committees in various states and various counties now up until this point very few of these actions have produced any tangible results in fact in quite a few cases the courts have dismissed them or the judge has dismissed what have been described at times as frivolous actions the biden of the lawyers themselves say that many of these actions are completely bass is baseless that the trumpet ministration the trump campaign is basically writhing around attempting to
1:11 pm
forestall the inevitable but joe biden himself has stayed clear of these legal matters he has made absolutely clear that he is intent on following the constitution and all these are asking he says is that every vote cast by every american is allowed to count he's leaving it to his lawyers to get down into the trenches and fight with the many lawyers that are being put around the states of by the campaign and other republican committees throughout the country indeed ongoing please there have patients from the biden campaign mike hanna and moment in delaware for us thanks very much for. well let's now speak to rob reynolds he joins us from los angeles where he's keeping an eye on all these very close counts rob nevada it's been blue the last 3 elections and if biden gets those electoral votes that makes $270.00 but that's a mighty narrow margin there. absolutely it is
1:12 pm
a very thin margin that joe biden has over donald trump in nevada a state that as you mentioned has been trending democratic in recent years it was carried by hillary clinton in 2016 but joe biden is now clinging to a lead of less than $8000.00 votes that's of like 0.6 percent of the total votes cast how might that change well it's difficult to know how many votes remain uncounted because they've had is a state that sent a ballot to every eligible voter obviously not all eligible voters decided to vote so it's hard to to know exactly how many are outstanding but it is thought that there are tens of thousands of uncounted mail in and absentee ballots many of them from clark county that is the county where los las vegas is located it is the biggest city in the state it is. traditionally
1:13 pm
a somewhat of a democratic stronghold so those uncounted ballots could be decisive for joe biden they could increase his lead no one of course knows for sure how that is going to go but again the city is. tends to vote democratic but very little information has been coming out of nevada over the past 24 hours much to the frustration the not only of the candidates but the news media who want to see how this is going to turn out but the officials in clark county the electoral officials there say they will make an announcement but not until thursday morning and rob oh ready as everyone's waiting people have been coming out in crowds either to try to stop the count or with the process. yes in fact there was and is
1:14 pm
a situation underway in arizona in phoenix where a group of trump supporters some of them carrying weapons which is legal to do in that state surrounded the entrance to a voting center and they. chanted and you know generally gave the impression that they believe that the voting was not being counted properly in the they wanted to get inside and observe the sheriff's deputies surrounded the entrances and kept the demonstrators from from entering there were no violence was no violence and there were no arrests another situation however in portland oregon where protesters who are demonstrating against president trumps desire to play this whole matter out in the courts in various states did clash with police
1:15 pm
there were 11 arrests in portland this is a city that seen a lot of political and civil unrest over the past several months robin and there for us in los angeles we'll be bringing you more on those protests very shortly thanks so much rob but i do want to move on to georgia spotlight has been on one of of one georgia as well as a number of other states but georgia has typically been a republican stronghold this year the race is extremely tight kemal santa maria takes a look at why georgia is just so key. when we head south in the united states we think republican and georgia is no exception on our 2020 battleground map this is one of the states the democrats are really going to want to flip georgia has 16 electoral college votes on offer and for years it has been a reliable republican stronghold in fact we're just going to have a look at some past results here you'll see that the republican candidate has won all 5 previous elections 3 of them there and then the last 2 i would point out that
1:16 pm
donald trump and 2016 won by just 5 percent against hillary clinton mitt romney had an 8 percent win of a barack obama 4 years before let's have a look at the state map of georgia now county by county it gives us an idea of why the democrats have managed to make progress you see here the areas in blue where they've managed to take over large metropolitan areas including atlanta because georgia has a fast growing population which means it is also becoming increasingly diverse now if you look at the numbers yes white voters still make up 60 percent of eligible voters but african-americans have more than 30 percent which makes them an influential majority of among nonwhite voters some other issues to think about coronavirus this year which is hit georgia hard it was among the 1st u.s. states to reopen their economy in a scene a lot of infection since and don't forget as well the fatal police shooting of african-american men were shot brooks this was in atlanta back in june it led to
1:17 pm
protests calling for police reforms and racial justice in all this republican stronghold has become a politically charged competitive race this year where joe biden really does have a fighting chance at victory over donald trump and that is why georgia matters. well andrea gillespie is an associate professor at the department of political science at emory university and she joins us now from georgia state cup of atlanta under thank you for being with us i find it amazing the fact that georgia is even competitive this year is remarkable in the count now down to this razor thin margin what has changed in your state is this about changing demographics or is it a dissatisfaction with what being republican has meant on the tram. thank you for having me it's a combination of demographic change in the state as well as in fruits organizing by democrats in the states the democrats have been eyeing the change in the composition of the electorate for about
1:18 pm
a decade now and they've been predicting that there would one day be at a time when they would once again regain control of some state offices and that they would actually win statewide elections so this is being spurred by the diversification of the population about 30 percent of the electorate is african-american but we're seeing the that this growth is among asian americans and hispanics so those numbers have about doubled since 20 well and since all of these groups trends democratic that is certainly helping to grow the democratic population in the se but also there are democratic leaders in the state like 2018 gubernatorial rep stacy abrams who made a point of trying to identify and mobilize democratic voters who might not have been participating in the process so she started this with a nonpartisan group that registered voters and this group is actively working towards registering voters of color young voters and these are groups that are
1:19 pm
likely to be courted by the democratic party and so what we've seen is a stronger more robust democratic party in the state embracing efforts to do outreach among likely democratic groups and 8 yielding benefits i should also point out that there are also liberal whites who are part of this coolish and so when you know nonwhite make up less than a slightly less than 40 percent of the electorate democrats don't get elected without the support of white voters as well under you spoken there a lot about the racial demographics we did actually will say see trump pick up a substantial number of black folks in georgia which came to many as a surprise i think was that some pushback of a potential pandemic off sounds or something else. well they're trying to paint actually did do targeted outreach in african-american communities and particularly towards african-american men so they wanted to take advantage of. a credential as a prosecutor and controversial decisions she made while she was turning general
1:20 pm
while she was district attorney in san francisco and joe biden sponsorship of the crime bill in the $990.00 s. and comments that he made so those outreach efforts. emphasis of the gains that african-americans made economically in terms of unemployment before the pandemic were things that were going to appeal to some african-americans i think it's important to point out though that the vast majority of african-american voters even in american men still vote democratic because despite those gains many african-americans chair about civil rights issues and racial justice issues and people who supported racial justice issues and thought that they were most important were overwhelmingly support joe biden let me ask you about a different minority group then because trump has done incredibly well with a chain of artists and actually much better than anyone predicted i've been hearing a bit of speculation that the back 5 massive protests and all that spotlight left other minorities perhaps feeling a little endian aces do you think there's any truth in that. like that would be
1:21 pm
something that i would need to study i'm not surprised by the numbers that we see amongst latino voters and you know i think because we are used to seeing african-americans 90 percent democratic we expect asian americans and latino voters to also be you know extremely democratic and they are by about a $2.00 to $1.00 margin but what we're looking at there are voter democratic voting rates in the neighborhood of 65 to 70 percent that's actually pretty normal and so i think we sometimes get shot given president from stances on immigration that he would see 30 percent of latinos voting republican in presidential elections but they're republicans and so they do vote along party lines well there are a number of very close counts still going out resign up for one georgia another what's your read on the state of play right now especially in your state. so georgia right now president trump margin is decreasing so the last stage
1:22 pm
but it's really early in the morning and sometimes i look at numbers you know his margin is only half a percentage point at this point and so there are still votes left to be counted in the state and so there are hard to tell sort of in the overnight what's been counted and what hasn't been counted but as of last night there were still enough standing in the state that joe biden could in fact surpass president trump if the number you know if the you know overwhelming volume of the outstanding balance were democratic so you know this race is still really close to call 8 and we await the report of the secretary of state later this morning very much so we'll be watching that very closely here on out is there whoever wins georgia and its 16 electoral votes thanks so much under cholesky from emory university there speaking to us from georgia. as all those results hang in the balance there have been protests in cities across the country and arizona armed trump supporters gathered outside
1:23 pm
a vote counting fenton the police blocked the entrance to the building observers from both parties were inside as those votes were being counted there were also protests in washington near the white house protesters marched demanding that every vote is counted some activists carried signs reading the wild as watching. and hundreds to march through central chicago again calling for all votes to be included they also highlighted issues that a flared up during trump's presidency including police brutality racism and his handling of the coronavirus pandemic well those issues were also highlighted at protests in new york. as the. protests on the streets of new york city here in the heart of times square these people are protesting what they say is a voter suppression in america against black people. this is just one of multiple protests that were in new york city earlier in the evening thousands of people took
1:24 pm
to the streets in midtown they walked a more than 30 blocks and they were chanting count every ballot every vote counts they were people who really showed some anger that the election was even being called into question by the president and they said that they had to get out to the streets because they felt it was their civic duty to make their voices heard that the all the votes of everybody are counted call people into the streets call strikes call actually shut this place down i'm here because i want to join my voice to the thousands of others the mandate that every vote be counted by law it's a democracy and everybody should happen for us i'm out here for all of the people of mailed in their ballots and are wondering whether they're going to be counted we know new york is going to. we don't know whether the others in the swing states
1:25 pm
will be counted if drama has its way. the only way to stop an attempt like the one trying to suggest that he would like to. is by having lots of people out in the streets peacefully demanding our rights protesters here say they're prepared to come back out to the streets in the coming days if every vote is not counted. it is now time for the weather. the weather broke in the levant just a few days ago this interim endace showers recently one spotted off the coast of lebanon of the city of beirut actually this is effectively a tornado over water as a waterspout just gives you no idea how big the showers were there's still the possibility of a few more showers in much lighter wind on friday before things clear away and the wind becomes irrelevant once more but the system still a remnant as to the potential for showers all the way almost from sinai right up to
1:26 pm
syria but the majority's going off to the northeast of turkey but what's going down behind it that cold wind will run through the bosphorus dam across crete and hit northern egypt not to be a cold blast bringing showers with it and those showers i think were just increase at the same time at the foot of the arabian prince there's a little tropical depression but little bunch of showers hitting the coast of a mob it may amount to nothing very much for it shows a slow change of season but inject enough moisture into the atmosphere to even give a shower to indo hearts any small chance for put in all the same however i think the majority of the weather was he's been to that is in those major ups and it looks pretty unpleasant. still ahead here on al-jazeera images of possible war crimes so much as the battle over the disputed territory if not gonna care about continuance facing drought while expecting flooding extreme weather in indonesia
1:27 pm
adds to the troubles a father has already struggling with the coronavirus pandemic and in sport argentinian football legendary maradona effect to be doing doing amazing following brain surgery far will have all those details for you here and. it's of centuries old battle of the battle is being promised to a new generation. witness follows a young native american as he takes the struggle into a 21st century america everybody's the logo we gave you the sacrifices that made is the gobi so this can be remembered all all go on a night fridge on al-jazeera.
1:28 pm
the. hello again i missed out here today and let's remind you of our top stories here this hour the race to the white house is going down to the wire flipping michigan and wisconsin joe biden now has a project a total of 264 electoral college votes according to the associated press while
1:29 pm
trump has 214 you need 270 to win the presidency. while the us president has repeated unsubstantiated claims that there were major problems with forcing a ballot counting georgia as one of several states where votes are still being counted and republicans are already filing legal challenges over the election. or trying to claim is a very thing the regularity of sparked protests in arizona as well as other places police officers in phoenix could be seen inside counting center as trump supporters gathered outside. a new nationwide lockdown has come into effect in england as it struggles to cover a 2nd wave of the coronavirus prime minister barak's johnson says it will be lifted automatically in the next 4 weeks last night large crowds gathered in london with very little social distancing scotland wales and northern ireland have their own restrictions in place while neve baka is in london's trafalgar square for us neve
1:30 pm
it's looking pretty empty that. it is but down 2.0 definitely has a different kind of feel in atmosphere this time around i think largely because people feel better orientated around the virus of course people wearing face masks they are socially distant many of them a carrying hand gels there also fewer restrictions this time around so schools universities nurseries are open a lot of people were out 1st thing this morning part of the school run construction it could continue so there are lots of heavy trucks going past a lot of the buses though remain empty as people are trying their best to work from home there are of course big concerns about the retail sector the hospitality sector all non-essential shops are closed big concerns about the impact of the economy when it comes to that part of the economy itself we've already heard several 1000 job cuts of meat announced by the the company sainsbury's one of the
1:31 pm
big retailers here and also the department store john lewis are well known name in the united kingdom has announced 1500 job cuts so there is a sense that this 2nd lockdown could well take a toll it is of course last thing for several weeks ending at the start of december but many think this could be extended well given the hit that the economy has taken with all these lockdowns what's the government doing to try to ease some of those. they say necessity is the mother of invention well the government has come up with in the past few months is a whole raft of measures in its financial toolbox to shore up the economy while the bank of england has announced of course as a separate institution is that it will inject $195000000000.00 into the economy through quantitative easing which very simply is the printing of money which allows for the buying up of bonds government bonds private sector bonds of that aside.
1:32 pm
actually phoned the local sloane so funk things like the furlough scheme that the government has announced it will extend where the government pays 80 percent of the salaries of people who can't work similar schemes will be extended to self employed people as well so the message from the government is that there is a financial safety that it's employees but of course big worries about how long this will last we've seen an announcement this morning that there could well be a surge in unemployment to around 7 and a half percent of the 1st quarter of next year it's around 4 percent of the moment the economy cannot be insulated indefinitely and that's probably preying on the forefront of many people's minds as we begin this 2nd lot there needs are there on the ground for us in london with all the latest thanks so much. oh john like a fairly has been sworn in as tanzania as president after he won a 2nd term in last week's elections magnifier you have declared the winner by the electoral commission with
1:33 pm
a huge proportion of the voters opposition parties however are calling for protests alleging widespread voter fraud magnifier these party has been in power since time to me again independence back in 1961 and we can now speak to lydia gunday she's served as a judge in the high court of uganda and is also a member of the independent observer group tanzania elections watch and she joins us now from the ugandan capital kampala that here thank you for taking the time to be with us today i know you were involved with election monitoring this time around what was your assessment of this poll. as turns on you i mean look should march but there was there were certain remote product selection there was ballot stuffing critic ballot for the ruling party that was delayed or deny. opposition polling agents to effectively the elections as they were read but their candidates there was a rest there were several wrists of opposition candidates i can give you an example
1:34 pm
check them out as scenes and there was violence by police and beyond me. and other violations of human rights and all the scores to instill fear and this was a book of the mainland and pemba and. opposition candidates were not given an opportunity to equip to become pain in the space leading up to be election. funny that shone day facebook what's up we're all shut down for several hours and all these things affect communication and then in the yes leading up to the lectern there's been a law to restrict your blogs coming up which have a big kiss on the floor and the exchange of information association and expression of the people which are vital rights or an election so we we hope our role in all these things in the lead up to the election and inevitably i think to the
1:35 pm
result whole they lections or lecture and lydia it does seem though that to spy it's all the opposition on the dissent around this mega fling is now officially present again having been and over i said so what recourse or options might the opposition have at the state oil is now a done deal essentially in a sense a 2 that done deal because of the tanzanian close to to shunt 417. as contesting presidential elections so to that extent there's nothing much that they can do but so i think we need to keep the pressure up we need to have early reports of what has happened and this will help inform future elections and so as a learning process for other african countries are these shortly we do hope sorry lady i didn't mean to interrupt you there because i did want to ask you about protests there was much talk of protests and instead they didn't really materialize
1:36 pm
we saw some high profile arrests instead do you think that there is some level of acceptance now of magnified his presidency i i i wouldn't call it acceptance what do you observe in the protests where. they came down on the protesters in the high hand if we use this defeated the protests but i don't think that killed the spirit of the protest so i think why you. know how you carry on for your piece grandfather i think that's the kind of thing they're having. all of that were spent on all protest and then but government comes up with high handed measures in dealing with them lydia i want to ask you about the human rights record of megaphone early and human rights organizations in a very outspoken about his increasingly authoritarian moves during his 1st turn on
1:37 pm
the opposition the media heading into this term now do you think he feels emboldened it does appear there that. we have a terrible connection i was asking about megacities for the rights record. again i with all due respect i don't think president mother fully have done well on the human rights front and i was totally an election watch we have witnessed this in many different ways. because a lot of. suppositional associates sure freedoms of expression but it's been. media housed. so people were not able to get information freely based been broke not only in the lead up to the look but earlier even on election day i'm forced lecture and when you have to go or the leader of. the misfits that's being sent out we're going to
1:38 pm
care we're coming for you but it's been a lot of rubble i've talked so. i think we have potentially lost lydia there from tanzania elections watch speaking to us about what's going on in tanzania well moving on now and the night of nations has an end to fighting between ethiopia's government and forces in the northern tier a region prime minister of the ahmed has sent soldiers there and has also declared a state of emergency he's accuse the province's ruling to p.l.f. party of attacking federal troops tensions grew in september after the t.p.s. held regional elections despise the government postponement jews are covert 19 chairs relist say that was a power grab by the prime minister a for more on this let's speak to mohamed adore he joins us now here in doha are we heading towards a civil war here i know many observers are very worried that this is just going to deteriorate especially given abuse record in office so far. well you have started
1:39 pm
the fear the fear of a civil war in ethiopia and this conflict has been long in the making the people's liberation front p.l.f. which was the dominant ruling coalition for most 27 years has been at loggerheads with the ever since he came to power in november 2018. of cracking down on the leadership of the tepee a lot of targeting some with what they called trumped up charges in court and also what they called economic sabotage by his government by to getting businesses belonging to people who are from the community which is about 6 percent of the population of ethiopia and when prime minister ahmed tried to disband the ruling european people's revolution a democratic front which was made up of ethnical parties. parties that are
1:40 pm
based on tribe which of course that was the dominant one the typical of refused and then its leadership retired to mckeller which is the capital of the. region and then organized elections that hated the tensions that we're seeing so yes there is a real fear of a civil war in ethiopia and on that what does this mean for the rest of the horn of africa do you think could if they live aboard it. well if you have here is not just the most populous country in the horn of africa region but it is a regional military power. 110000000 people has influence not just on events in somalia south sudan but also in. south sudan and kenya as well so even. if this conflict continues to linger on under fact more years than the region because there is
1:41 pm
a real possibility because there are moments of discontent in places. like the or more the region which is the but yet of prime minister ahmed we could see a massive influx of refugees into neighboring countries and. it could upset the relative stability that the horn of africa is currently enjoying. and if we look at the history this has been really unstable region for a very long time manager there who covers that whole region for us extensively here and out there thanks so much. now the united nations has warned that armenia and azerbaijan have committed a possible war crimes in their conflict over the disputed territory of nick on a car back both sides have pledged not to target civilians but strikes against towns and cities continue and as war a challenge reports there is evidence of other human rights abuses as well. in the
1:42 pm
