an occupation. but what has become of their. rewind pencils and bullets. on al-jazeera. i'm not here to that we've won but i am here to report the count is finished we believe we will be the winners. democratic candidate joe biden says he was close to victory as president donald trump launched his legal challenge apes. it could all come down to these 2 races vote counting is still underway in georgia pennsylvania. come about this and this is obviously a live from doha also coming up kosovo's president steps down defense
7:01 pm
a war crimes trial at the hague for his alleged role during the 1999 kosovo conflict the u.k. gets a new multibillion dollar rescue package to boost its economy as a land enters another pandemic lockdown. well uncertainty remains 2 days after americans went to the polls to choose the next president only a handful of states remain unclear but they hold the key to the white house for either joe biden or president to donald trump the focus has shifted to the state of georgia where vote counting has been going through the night it's an extremely close race in the traditionally republican state donald trump's initial lead has been steadily falling georgia is one of several states where republicans are filing legal challenges over the election. let me just give you
7:02 pm
a look at the state of play joe biden has already flipped michigan and wisconsin donald trump narrowly won those 4 years ago the democratic candidates now has a projected total of 264 electoral college votes trump is projected to win 214 now remember the candidate needs 270 to win here in yellow you can see the states still being decided nevada in the west in georgia of course north carolina as well in the south and up there is pennsylvania and as i mentioned vote counting is still ongoing in georgia trant leads there by about 18000 votes but what might help joe biden is that most of the remaining votes are from atlanta and its suburbs which lean democratic now we're expecting more data on that in the next few hours we're also still waiting on pennsylvania in the state where joe biden was born chum's leave here is again shrinking and the remaining male ballots are mostly from the democratic leaning cities of philadelphia and pittsburgh giving biden
7:03 pm
a chance to catch up pennsylvania is another state where trump's filed a lawsuit here is nevada for biden is not only in the lead in the western states has 6 electoral votes that would be enough to get him to the key number of 270 that's one of the states that trump is suing claiming voter fraud and here's our team for this hour allen fisher is live for us in washington d.c. jamal is in joe biden's home state of delaware 1st particle hain wraps up the latest developments former vice president joe biden projecting confidence he will be the next president and he may have taken a step closer to press declaring he's won the state of wisconsin and michigan giving him more electoral college votes and an easier path to the $270.00 that will get him to the white house and now after a long night of county it's clear. that were when you enough states to reach
7:04 pm
270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency i'm not here to clear that we've won but i am here to report when the count is finished we believe we will be the winners but u.s. president donald trump is demanding a recount in wisconsin after falling short by around $20000.00 votes even his most ardent supporters doubt that will change anything former wisconsin governor scott walker tweeting out a recount in 2016 trumps numbers went up by 131 and the counting continues in the states that will decide the election with state officials asking for patience give the public servants the opportunity to do their job and what i will tell you is that karen pennsylvania we're going to follow the law and we will respect the will of the people and the crop her victory will be certified based on who got more votes the president is suing to stop the counting in some states his surrogates
7:05 pm
saying falsely that the election is being stolen to win for a republican to win here how many votes do we have to be at 400000 is not enough with 80 plus percent counted i think there's only 14 percent of the vote to go if you think what a stupid you think we're falls the president is complaining on twitter they're finding biden votes all over the place in pennsylvania wisconsin and michigan so bad for country to be clear they're not finding ballots but counting ones that come in on time according to state laws. and there is a question about whether the postal service run by a trump loyalist interfered in getting ballots delivered on time define a federal judge's order tuesday to do a sweep for ballots they refused potentially leaving hundreds of thousands not counted the one thing this election has clearly shown america is a nation divided it really does seem like people live in 2 different realities
7:06 pm
given like the news they consume and who they surround themselves with so i i am not bad surprise that a lot of people decided to vote again for a president who has brought us to where we are with several cases winding their way through the courts as the votes are counted and america and the world waits to see who eked out a win in this fractured country. al-jazeera. kind of fishes joining us live from washington d.c. at the time campaign was fairly quiet for a few hours alan but we seem to see now a flurry of activity. and some angry words coming out from bill stepien who is the campaign manager he's just been on a conference call with journalists he said that the democrats are lying cheating and stealing is running rampant across the country they're setting up a web site asking people to report any voting irregularities they see they've also announced in the last hour that the a big when in the courts in pennsylvania it came to over promise that under
7:07 pm
delivered and not essentially what the judge said when they were asked can we go and observe the ballots was yes on you go but of course there were democrats and republicans in that room already observing the vote counting so all that the trump campaign has managed to do is it's what those people and also we've heard from jason miller who is one of donald trump's closest political advisers he was involved in the 26000 campaign was due to get a big job in the white house but there was a disgrace a scandal around him so he disappeared for a few years and came back to help the campaign this time around he's saying that by the end of tomorrow that would be friday donald trump will be confirmed as the president and he and mike pence more return to their jobs in the white house just to point out the fact that bill stepien is saying that democrats are lying cheating and stealing across the country they didn't offer any specifics of what was going on they were also asked about donald trump's tweet when he said stop the counting
7:08 pm
jason miller said that's all about don't count illegal ballots well illegal ballots do tend to be counted don't seem to be suggesting that he wanted all voting stopped at the moment that 2nd true the message for the trump campaign because they want to continue counting the votes in nevada but they want to store some of the counting that is going on particularly in michigan in pencil. michigan because they're behind the at the moment pennsylvania because they're concerned that although the hold a small lead that as they start to count the ballots that were mailed in particularly democratic strong areas that they will fall behind in what is a very key state so it's interesting that the trump campaign is being so forceful about this that they're being pretty angry about this as well just to point out donald trump was accurate and they did stop the counting no joe biden would
7:09 pm
essentially be named the next president of the united states so you can see why decent miller wasn't keen to pursue that idea but certainly very angry words from the trump campaign in the last hour they're claiming victory which wasn't really a court victory and the see that they will go to the courts if they need to as these counts and recounts continue allan thanks very much indeed that's an official in washington d.c. bringing us up to date was the what's been happening from the trump campaign let's cross over to jamal exile he's live for us in wilmington delaware of course that joe biden's home state how is the biden counterpane responding to all of this. well the essentially focusing the narrative on the electoral process they're focusing gets on the fact that this time around in this presidential election it's high their record turnout or at least a record number of people have voted for joe biden more than any other candidate
7:10 pm
for the presidency in u.s. history they are trying to get people to focus not just on respecting the process and on the counts and to wait for those results to come in well they're also looking at the numbers and showing how they very much supports the idea that they believe by the end of the counts their candidates will win when we're talking about georgia for example some of the counts that are going now currently trump is leading. by around 18 and a half 1000 volts one of the counties there are the fulton county there are around 140000 outstanding balance according to some of the local media reporting out of there and biden has been recording roughly 73 percent votes from that specific county if that trend was to continue then he would end up with $100.00 and choose 1000 of those 140000 which would puts him with a margin of over $80000.00 votes beyond trump and that's why they believe that when
7:11 pm
georgia is announced some point today as expected that will be a biden victory but aside from this there's also been responses from other organizations including believe it or not international monitors talking about the u.s. election the organization for security corporation always see it's a european based organization they've come out and dismissed trump's accusations of voter fraud and said essentially it's a sham and it is something that is denting the reputation of the democratic process so whilst the trump campaign really is rather sort of the biden campaign really is trying to focus attention on the electoral process on showing respect to those who participated in large numbers and in the figures that are coming out there obviously also behind the scenes preparing themselves they have been fund raising for legal representation if indeed these litigations go through jamal thanks very much indeed does bring you some today with the views from the biden campaign he's live for us in wilmington delaware. well as you've heard pennsylvania is one of the
7:12 pm
critical battleground states which will decide the election christine salumi has the latest on that. well joe biden is inching closer and closer to president tribe as the vote count continues the lead of president trump is now under 165000 votes and with just under 800000 votes left to count joe biden is very much in striking distance especially considering that he has been steadily gaining on president as these mail in ballots are counted in many of the ones that are left are in urban areas like here in philadelphia which lean heavily heavily democratic at this rate most of the ballots could be counted today remember that we do have that lawsuit outstanding president trump attempting to get the supreme court to weigh in on a decision here in pennsylvania to allow mail in ballots to be counted even if they're received after election day as long as they are postmarked by election day
7:13 pm
and received by friday. still ahead and al jazeera images of possible war crimes emerge as the battle over the disputed territory of neuronal calabar continues. winter is trying to get in to the north east of china in fact it makes it over the border into north korea allowing a little bit of snow to fall i suspect during friday but it suppose still by the prevailing breeze which is night and into a southwest of the same time that's allowing the remains of the east asian monsoon to bring rains the far south to china bottom end is out sonnie a tropical storm will go past taiwan looks like it's close the the coast of southern china but it is no more than in juice a stronger northerly wind in hong kong for example then the windies you back to the
7:14 pm
northeast monsoon by the time you get to monday gaudi no longer a tropical storm release is just bringing masses of rain to the coast of vietnam or even inland anywhere between extensive flooding recently not keep going slowly west woods and then fall apart and if you look further south is plenty of showers where they should be there's also the potential development in the central philippines could be another tropical storm in development in the northeast monsoon as it shows itself coming in to india tends to produce a lot of rain from 100 ish science was in towards true lanka across in kara so doing exactly what it's supposed to do with most of india quiet as you know equity getting paul in new delhi. as donald trump been good for america everything is in disarray the media of course take every bit of base that they can to demolish the fact that america has been
7:15 pm
a force for good in the world. from the american people get inspiration from him and the other half cringe you weekly take on u.s. politics and society that's the bottom of a lot of the fans of alexander love that we are grappling the extra mile where all the media don't go we go there and we give them a chance to tell their story. we want to go to 0 remind of our top stories this hour the race for the white house is going down to the wire after flipping michigan and wisconsin joe biden now has a project a total of 264 electoral college votes according to the associated press while
7:16 pm
trump has 214 it takes 270 to win the election. the u.s. president has repeated unsubstantiated claims that there were major problems with voting and ballot counting georgia is one of several states where republicans are finding legal challenges over the election. all over the last 48 hours trumps that 372000 vote lead has been cut down to less than 20000 and the remaining votes look favorable to biden is fine following the count in georgia from florida. these poll workers have been working all night with these final 60000 mail in ballots but it's where they're from that's really key for the biden campaign they're from the suburbs of atlanta and if you look at the counties neighboring the ones where the ones have been counted now they've overwhelmingly gone for joe biden now the state of georgia shouldn't really have even been in play at present democratic presidential nominee has not won that state since 1902 that was bill
7:17 pm
clinton so this is an extremely tight race a very important race with those 16 electoral college votes but state officials say they could well go into a recount which under georgia law needs to happen within 2 business days but this is razor thin at the moment but as i said those final mail and ballots which are being counted at about $3000.00 an hour are from majority democratic areas so it may well swing in joe biden's favor but that margin may be the all important thing which could see that state going into another recount. let's go to joe watkins he's a republican strategist and a former white house aide under president george h.w. bush he's joining us from philadelphia pennsylvania. good to have you with us on al jazeera the race to the white house is not closed for donald trump we should make that clear in the event that we do get another trump presidency is he going to be able to run the united states given the fact that there is such
7:18 pm
a clear division amongst the people there. well clearly if the president wins a 2nd term he's going to have. a strong democratic led house of representatives and a smaller majority in the u.s. senate than the enjoyed in the 1st term so you'll have to work harder of course to get both chambers the house and the senate to work with them to get legislation passed. course assuming that he's going to have a 2nd term is kind of a tall order right now and all the polling data that i've seen especially in the in the in the state of pennsylvania where i live seems to point to an advantage right now for joe biden the likelihood is greater or the least the path is clearer joe biden to get to the presidency than it is for down trump to retain the presidency and so i think many americans now are just settling into. the likelihood that joe biden will win the presidency probably in the next day or 2 do you think that in
7:19 pm
the last few days republicans have been turned off the presidency by the strength of language that donald trump particularly has been producing with regard to say the voting process and the polling process essentially undermining the democratic process in the united states. i think that many americans are not happy with anything that looks like undermining the democratic process i for one believe that as i think most americans that all americans i hope that the voters ought to speak and that's why we have this democratic process repeat will get a chance to cast their vote for the candidates they they support and however it turns out is the will of the american people and that's what we are to accept and support and that ought to be the case with everybody i know the president is probably a number of challenges at this at this stage i don't know how many of those will
7:20 pm
stick but clearly if. vice president biden wins georgia and pennsylvania i guess for the most part any of those challenges will be meaningless because biden will have much more than the $270.00 electoral college votes of the college book that he needs to be the next president so if he if he wins 4 out of the 6 states that are yet unreported he'll have a clear floor rally and with that i'm sure most of the legal challenges will stop in the event the donald trump does get another presidency do you think that the republican party is going to have to redesign itself rethink itself sensually separately from the white house and the trump administration. well well the party guest i always think in terms of how they win seats and but it's left to individuals in the party i think as americans as well as as republicans how do we how do we form
7:21 pm
a more perfect union and how do we move the country forward that's the real key and all this is not just a matter of winning seats and and enjoying power but how do we move the country going forward and i've said it many many times i even say that my own show on joe watkins dot org that we have to learn to love each other even if we don't agree even if we have differences of opinion politically we have to learn to love each other care about each other and work together to move us forward and that's got to be the hope for republicans as well as democrats in the united states republican party leaders will try to figure out how to win back those seats that were lost but at the end of the day the hope and the prayer is that we have people of conscience who want to help form a better. job of what has we appreciate your joining us on al-jazeera as all of us thank you very much and a few times as joe watkins thanks for having me. kosovo's president says he'll resign immediately to face a war crimes trial at the hague she was indicted in june by
