the architrave data al-jazeera correspondent. played important role protecting him and. the touch face. but i am here to report the count is finished we believe we will be the winners 2 days after the u.s. presidential election there is still no winner but democrat nominee joe biden says he's very close to victory as donald trump launches legal challenges. it could all come down to these 2 races vote counting is still underway in georgia and pennsylvania.
8:01 pm
hello i'm rob matheson and this is our dizzier live from doha also coming up kosovo's president steps down to face a war crimes trial at the hague for his alleged role during the 199899 kosovo conflict the u.k. gets a new multibillion dollar rescue package to boost its economy is in england enters another pandemic locked up. well and so does a remains 2 days after americans went to the polls to choose the next president only a handful of states remain unclear but they hold the key to the white house for either joe biden or president donald trump now the focus has shifted to the states of georgia where a vote counting has been going through the night it's an extremely close race in the traditionally republican state donald trump's initial lead has been steadily
8:02 pm
falling georgia is one of several states where republicans are filing legal challenges over the election. well let's take a look at the state of play as it stands at the moment biden has already flipped michigan and wisconsin donald trump narrowly won those 4 years ago the democratic candidate now has a projected total of 264 electoral college votes while trump is projected to win 214 i remember a candidate needs 270 to win here in the other you can see the states still being decided in the west georgia of course north carolina and pennsylvania up towards the north now as i mentioned vote counting is still ongoing in georgia trump leads there by about 800000 votes but what might help joe biden is that most of the remaining votes are from atlanta and its suburbs and they lean democratic we're expecting more data about that in the coming hours we're also still waiting
8:03 pm
pennsylvania the state where joe biden was born trump's lead here again is shrinking and the remaining male ballots mostly from the democratic leaning cities of philadelphia and pittsburgh giving biden a chance to catch up pennsylvania is another state where trump's filed a lawsuit here is nevada that's where biden is now really in the lead in the western states has 6 electoral votes that will be enough to get him to the key number of 270 it's one of the states trying is suing claiming voter fraud and then we've got correspondents covering the latest developments and the gallacher is going to be standing by for us in florida but 1st let's speak to alan fischer who is live for us in washington d.c. allan tell us about the trump campaign has been saying over the last few hours or so because they were remaining quiet for quite some time. well in the last hour or so things have been very contentious between both both parties and both campaigns
8:04 pm
we had from the campaign the suggest that by the end of tomorrow the votes will have been counted that gave donald trump another 4 years in the white house but bill stepien who is the top campaign manager insisted that the democrats were lying cheating and stealing running rampant across the country the incest that there is fraud that is going on as you know that in arizona they are suggesting that the vote counting should continue but in pennsylvania and michigan they're arguing that the vote counting there should stop essentially they're arguing what is ever better for their campaign whether it's stopping or continuing the current the keep insisting that there is evidence of fraud they said that in pennsylvania. they even had a court case thrown out in georgia because they couldn't substantiate the claims that they were making of fraud but that hasn't stopped them just in the last 20
8:05 pm
minutes or so they held a news conference in las vegas in nevada and again the suggestion was that there are votes that have been cast fraudulently. we've burnley believe that there are many voters in this group of mail and people that are not proper voters in the last many days we have received reports of many irregularities across the valley where we believe that there are dead voters that have been counted we are also confident that there are thousands of people whose votes have been counted they have moved out of clark county. in the during the pandemic. of course al and there's been continuing speculation about what donald trump is going to do in the event that joe biden does make it to the white house. well bill stepien who is this campaign manager on that call the last couple
8:06 pm
of hours said that donald trump is alive and well so even though we haven't seen him for the last 24 hours or so and that is the news from his campaign will he leave the white house well of course the campaign is insisting that he won't have to do that he's got another 4 years ahead in voting in pennsylvania that they're going to win out as soon as that nevada is spotted then accuse can stand is an absolute banker and so they will have more than enough force to put them over the top get the $270.00 electoral college votes in fact donald trump just a couple of days ago was predicting he get more than the 360 that he got 4 years ago will he leave the white house if joe biden actually becomes president well he really doesn't have an option there is a plan in place that are laws in place that would suggest that he has to leave he might make the transition difficult but there are legal restrictions on all that he can do in fact it is an act of congress that tells his team exactly what they need
8:07 pm
to do before they hand over to another president so he's got to do that and then of course the big question would be if donald trump loses the presidency will he issue pardons on his last state. and if so to whom would it be to members of his own family members of his in the circle is it possible even for the president to pardon himself that was a question that was brought up for him equally but when she was confirmed as a supreme court justice during the hearings a couple of weeks ago on the hill i was there she didn't answer that she said that something that might come up at some point in the future for the supreme court to consider could possibly come sooner than you think so will he leave i don't think you've really got any option but if he's going to protect his legacy if he's going to be thought well of then you probably want to here's another thing that was suggested to me by someone in donald trump's or but he will leave graciously and the reason he will leave graciously is because he wants to make sure you leave a good impression because he intends to run in 4 years time because then he won't
8:08 pm
have to worry about what corporate did to his 1st term in the oval office allan thanks very much indeed alan's talking to us from washington d.c. well georgia's become the unexpected toss up for donald trump with joe biden closing in on his lead for more on this let's speak to andy gallacher he's joining us live from miami where is monitoring things just bring us up to date with what the situation is in georgia at the moment. well rob you just said that donald trump had an 18000 vote lead over joe biden that's now gone down to 14000 so as these mail in ballots are steadily being counted and they've been counted all through the night they've been bringing extra staff in biden is eating away at the president's lead in the state that a democratic presidential nominee hasn't won since 1992 that was bill clinton this state shouldn't even be at play at the moment these counts are steadily coming in as i said about 60000 of those left but what could be key here is where those
8:09 pm
counts are coming from places like fulton county which is the suburbs around atlanta which tends to lean heavily democratic areas around savanna as well which are also pretty democratic. a key to this is looking at the neighboring counties that have already been counted and in some of those places votes have gone 80 percent towards joe biden but this one state official just said this could come down to a 1000 votes between the president and his democratic rival joe biden i mean that is just mind blowing and the laws in georgia made that if the results are within a half a percentage margin of error either side can call for a recount so we may end up in that situation it's just not clear yet let's just dealing the facts as these votes come in but these people in georgia are working extremely hard to get these votes counted they count them they put everything on a thumb drive the thumb drives that move over to a different location and the tabulation takes place but they are rolling in steadily we're about 9596 percent of total votes reported but this is on
8:10 pm
a razor's edge with 16 electoral college votes at stake that could potentially take joe biden within a hair's breadth of that magical $270.00 number that he needs but we just don't know yet with 95 percent and it sounds as though we're probably going to get some sort of result from georgia certainly in the next few hours andy thank you very much indeed will join you of course when that happens let's talk to clark plaxico he's a former north carolina democratic senator he's joining us live by skype thank you very much indeed for being with us on in the event that joe biden does manage to make it to the white house how do you go about trying to unify a country which is so clearly split as the united states is at the moment. i think he's already doing that when you listen to what he said to say in the last couple days he's come out he hasn't claimed victory he says he feels like when all the votes are counted and i want to reemphasize that when all the votes are counted
8:11 pm
that he will be elected president so he's not claiming victory and he's saying that if he doesn't win he will be president of all americans he's not going to be was president of the blue states or the red states he's going to be president of all states so i think he's already beginning to do that and i think you know he's basically suggesting that the nation just take a collective deep breath. you know the campaign is over you run campaigns you have elections so the people can vote and so now we're counting the votes and i think this this atmosphere that's being created by the trumpet ministration somehow or another they're all these. fraudulent votes being cast or this is happening that that has happened when you talk to the secretaries of states the heads of the people in the election commissions in these various states some are democrat some republican there's no evidence of any of that and you have the trump campaign it's
8:12 pm
a mysterious you know they're demanding that the vote stop being counted in the states for their head and they're demanding that the votes be counted where they're behind well you can't have it both ways but you have to do with what joe biden has already said count all the votes and see what happened i think joe biden has already established the fact that he believes he's going to win but he also has certainly given every indication is said that if bill action is it does not go his way if donald trump at the end of the day when all those votes are counted and dollar trump is reelected he would accept that you know we go back and we look at this is what you do in america. you go back you look what happened in 2000 and you had albert gore and he graciously accepted it your previous speaker was talking about the razor thin edge well that was one state it was only less than 500 votes
8:13 pm
and so we're we're in a whole different situation here but we need to remember what albert gore did he had held his press conference he said now it's time for me to leave so let me thank you i'm going to do that if that's the case let me point out i'm trying to do the same i just want to interrupt you because it is an interesting scenario isn't it in the event that joe biden does make it to the to the white house he's going to have a rough right of it isn't it because we're going to have a senate which has at the very least has a very strong republican presence which is going to do its very best essentially to block everything that biden administration will try to do how do you bring that together i mean how difficult is do you think that is going to be for the by the ministration to get through things like tax hikes for example. well i don't think that tax hike is going to be his priority 1st of all but joe biden has made his
8:14 pm
home professional life has been working with people on both sides he does practice what used to be to the load or to politics which is you compromise every side gets a little bit and joe biden has made a career of doing that working to both sides of the aisle i know he will make every effort to do it. would expect the mitch mcconnells to lindsey graham some people who just won reelection have 6 year terms now don't have to pander to their right wing at least for another 2 years i would expect him to step up and be statesman and if if joe biden is trying to find a solution and deal with this pandemic i would expect the american people are going to demand that the republican leadership do the same i think joe biden remember joe by if he does win he's won the blue wall back to pennsylvania west constant in
8:15 pm
michigan and it looks like he may win and arizona and georgia which is southern states and southwestern states which has is almost unheard of certainly in the last 2030 years and this is this is a sort of a demarcation in american politics and i think people have decided that they want to have someone like joe biden because he has shown he wants to work with the other side to find solutions for all the american people it will be hard this no question about that clock plaxico wynnie appreciate your joining us analysis thank you very much indeed for giving your time so thank you thank you. still ahead and al jazeera images of possible war crimes emerge as the battle over the disputed territory in iran ohana back continues with global economies mired in uncertainty we'll look at how china is preparing to bolster its domestic market.
8:16 pm
hallow the rather vicious thunderstorms over level and generally speaking in this part of the event of the last 24 hours have gone away now you see the worst of the weather. to turkey and the coaxes was following shahrazad misty's attempts have dropped and you will get sunshine and more showers as rain on its way into oman as well which just shows a bit of instability in the atmosphere might even in juice a shower too as funnels as dark but generally speaking it's still a pretty dry picture i put it in the forecast all the same and the way we're looking at to typical of this time of the year low humidity temperature about 30 mark rain proper is showing itself even more so in somalia some parts of ethiopia and just touching south sudan but the concentration is for the south and
8:17 pm
as you notice in places like rwanda or burundi they've been rain to the south of that as well where it's been very warm in south africa that turned into showers there on their way out sorry in facts temps should johannesburg's way up to meet the tin sudden botswana above normal well into the thirty's not true of cape town in cape town you got active weather on its way in temperatures dropping the winds are strong in this at least 3 days rather rain or sherry rain. jump into the stream and julian on global community diversity is biosecurity is that essential for our species to survive be part of the debate i know you have i.d.'s he can be part of this conversation when no topic is off the table the police are not neutral and all of these cases goal here is to terrorize and here's
8:18 pm
the other part of this there's no consequence this street on out is the. you want your disease or a reminder of our top stories this hour the race to the white house is going down to the wire after flipping michigan and wisconsin joe biden now has a project a total of 264 electoral college votes according to the associated press trump has 240 it takes 270 to win the election. the u.s. president has repeated unsubstantiated claims that the one major problems with voting and ballot counting georgia nevada and pennsylvania are just some of the
8:19 pm
states where votes are still being counted and republicans are filing legal challenges over the election. joe biden is out in his supporters to be patient insisting he's on track for victory budget ohayon wraps up the developments so far . former vice president joe biden projecting confidence he will be the next president and he may have taken a step closer he sociate a press declaring he's won the states of wisconsin and michigan giving him more electoral college votes and an easier path to the to 70 that will get him to the white house and now after a long night of county it's clear that where one knew enough states to reach 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency i'm not here to clear that we've won but i am here to report when the count is finished we believe we will be the winners but u.s.
8:20 pm
president donald trump is demanding a recount in wisconsin after falling short by around 20000 votes even his most ardent supporters doubt that will change anything former wisconsin governor scott walker tweeting out a recount in 2016 trumps numbers went up by 131 and the counting continues in the states that will decide the election with state officials asking for patience give the public servants the opportunity to do their job and what i will tell you is that tara pennsylvania we're going to follow the law and we will respect the will of the people and the crop her victory will be certified based on who got more votes the president is suing to stop the counting in some states his surrogates saying falsely that the election is being stolen to win for a republican to win here how many votes do we have to be at 400000 is not enough with 80 plus percent counted i think there's only 14 percent of the vote to go if
8:21 pm
you think we're stupid you think we're fools the president is complaining on twitter they're finding biden votes all over the place in pennsylvania wisconsin and michigan so bad for country to be clear they're not finding ballots but counting ones that come in on time according to state laws. and there is a question about whether the postal service run by a trump loyalist interfered in getting ballots delivered on time define a federal judge's order tuesday to do a sweep for ballots they refused potentially leaving hundreds of thousands not counted the one thing this election has clearly shown america is a nation divided it really does seem like people live in 2 different realities given like the news they consume and with the surround themselves with so. i'm not bad surprise that a lot of people decided to vote again for president in his so where we are with several cases winding their way through the courts as the votes are counted and

america and the world waits to see who eked out a win in this fractured country patty calling out to 0 in other news kosovo's president says he'll resign immediately to face a war crimes trial at the hague he was indicted in june by a special tribunal investigating the 198999 conflicts with serbia is accused of nearly 100 murders when he was a commander of the kosovo liberation army group he's denied the allegations united nations has warned that armenia and azerbaijan have committed possible war crimes in their conflict over the disputed territory of their own okada bloc both sides a pledge not to target civilians but strikes against towns and cities continue as rory challenge reports as evidence of other human rights abuses. in the living room in armenia these people are anxious we're not identifying the parents just in case it leads to their son being mistreated he's

to give us more names of those people because of course all of the information that is now on the internet and we have a lot of families coming to our offices here in azerbaijan and i'm going to quote about asking. for support and hopefully as they put a freeze up when they recognize their relatives much of the modern identities of armenia and azerbaijan and rest on their animosity towards each other and their fight over not going to care about strong voices in each country argue that they are the historical victim of that they have the monopoly on truth and this is a dangerous situation for human rights in this conflict. al-jazeera. armenia. a new nationwide lockdowns come into effect in england as it struggles to curb a 2nd wave of the coronavirus promise about as johnson says it will be lifted automatically in the next 4 weeks last night large crowds were seen gathered in london with very little social distancing evolve is in london with more. there is
