gets a new multibillion dollar rescue package to boost its economy as a england enters another pandemic locked. we're going to begin in the united states a nation on the edge almost 48 hours on the presidential race between donald trump and joe biden still remains too close to call the democratic candidates already flipped to michigan and wisconsin and donald trump had not only won those 4 years ago but biden now has a projected total of $264.00 electoral college votes while trump is projected to win $214.00 now remember the candidate needs a minimum of $270.00 electoral college votes to win a few states here highlighted yellow on the map nevada georgia north carolina pennsylvania they're still in play they are counting is ongoing in georgia no
10:02 pm
democrat has carried that state since 1902 but trump's lead there is not going fast what might help joe biden is that most of the remaining votes so from atlanta and its suburbs which lean democratic in nevada biden is now really in the lead to the western states has 6 electoral votes that will be enough to get him to the $270.00 mark they it's one of the states trump is suing claiming voter fraud we're also waiting on pennsylvania the states where joe biden is from trump's lead here again is shrinking and the remaining male ballots are mostly from the democratic leaning cities of philadelphia and pittsburgh giving biden a chance to catch up pounce of any is another state where trump has filed a lawsuit. let's go straight to alan fischer who's watching things for us in washington d.c. allan just bring us up to date with for the latest from the town campaign which has been getting increasingly heated in the last couple of hours. indeed we have been
10:03 pm
seeing that in the end of friday donald trump will be confirmed by those states as the next president of the united states and that my parents will be his running mate has been attacked from the truck campaign on the way that democrats are allegedly conducting themselves according to the campaign manager they said that the democrats are lying cheating and stealing running rampant across the country now they've alleged in several places that there is voter fraud but they have yet to produce any evidence of that in fact they've gone to court in the last 24 hours in michigan and also in georgia in georgia that case was thrown out in michigan the judge where they asked the judge to stop the counting of the votes there was a couple of things against them one the voting had already stopped but the 2nd thing was that the judge said keep the brought higher in here seeking this which means all the evidence was based on what someone thought they had been told rather
10:04 pm
than producing any evidence itself that would be a one in development for the trump campaign who have insisted that they will go to the courts to try and turn this election in dollar terms favor something that he has flagged up for weeks saying that he was willing to go as far as the supreme court suggesting that he didn't win the election then it was because of fraud the biden campaign that responded they've said it was silly in this and they see that they are putting this message out simply the trump campaign putting this message i simply to back up the narrative that they have constructed doesn't stop them saying it though they've just been in the visor they had a news conference a couple of hours ago and there again without any evidence he suggested there was evidence of voter fraud. we've burned they believe that there are many voters in this group of mail and people that are not proper voters and the last many days we have received reports of many irregularities across the
10:05 pm
valley we've we believe that there are dead voters that have been counted. we are also confident that there are thousands of people whose votes have been counted they have moved out of clark county. in the during the pandemic. the news we've heard in the last is that pennsylvania might be able to make a call on the results from their state before the end of business on thursday that's 20 electoral college votes if joe biden won that and he thinks he's going to because that's the state where he was born then that would be a big victory for him the problem is that it might not be confirmed because we're already hearing suggestions that the trump team will be going to court if that state is not called for donald trump they have alleged as they alleged on whedon's
10:06 pm
day again without evidence that there was widespread voter fraud that people who had been dead for years had been voting again produced no documentation to back that up so what's donald trump been doing well bill stepien his campaign manager says he is alive and well he's been tweeting out a couple of times today he said that he wanted to stop the vote that's a mixed message they want to stop counting the votes in places such as pennsylvania and michigan you can't do michigan anymore but they want to continue counting in arizona because donald trump is that behind it joe biden there so they need the votes to try and overhaul what the democratic candidate has already stocked up for donald trump he's apparently watching the results consulting with allies and wondering whether or not his time in the white house is coming to a close thank you very much indeed in the fresh air bringing us up to date from washington d.c. i want to go over to jamal sile he's live in wilmington delaware which is of course joe biden's home state where we're hearing from alan about the campaigns attempts
10:07 pm
to bring litigation in some of these states what's been the reaction from the democrats to these accusations of voting irregularities. well i mean they've been from the beginning pushing the same message that everybody has to be patient people have to wait until all votes are counted and only then will the. century announce what they believe to be an imminent victory for their candidates there was a tweet so around an hour and a bit ago from joe biden himself to that and where he said you know people should be calm votes are being counted we are confidence that's we will get the results or we are confident where we stand currently obviously they will themselves be mobilizing their own lawyers for if and when needs be there from out and that's the case in georgia has been thrown out but there are others that are being that could
10:08 pm
go on however from a numbers perspective rob when you look at the outstanding states and when you look at the projections where we are now 264 in favor of biden it's very unlikely that every single outstanding states will have a legal challenge that will prevent buy them from getting those 6 points needed and that's why they feel very confident about it's. another message has been coming that is coming together with this kind of call for patients who has been wanting for calmness of unity and on a college means that the american public is extremely divided that tensions are extremely high not necessarily here in wilmington delaware but definitely in other states across the country particularly in what's been branded by some of the media outlets here in the us as a country a call for an attempt to try and bridge the divisions here in an acknowledgement that the polarization that's has occurred throughout this elections but that is really built on much more deeper see the divisions within america and society that
10:09 pm
needs to be dealt with by whoever is going to be in the white house whether it's will be a continuation of trump as unlikely as that may seem or more likely scenario of. president biden so now you're. bringing us up to date with the situation in the biden county live for us in wilmington delaware janelle thank you very much indeed well georgia has become the unexpected toss up for donald trump with joe biden closing in on his lead for more on this we're going to speak to andy gallacher he's joining us live from miami but he's monitoring events in georgia forests obviously the counties still going on there in georgia just bring us up to date with what we know about what's happening. a lot rob on unlike should die president trump what about 837-0000 vote lead over joe biden over the past 48 hours that's the no way by those 1000000 ballots it's now only 13200 so that gap is closing rapidly and there's a good reason for that all of this for the right incidentally not is because the
10:10 pm
mail in ballots are coming in from. 6 counties that. lean democratic but there are also other pilots coming in from heavily republican areas as well so this is really down to the wire in a state that the democrats didn't even think would be applied to the last democratic presidential nominee to win in the state of georgia was bill clinton all the way back in 1992 now there are some state officials saying look this could end up with 1000 votes between these 2 candidates which is essentially pretty mind blowing when you think how red state has been for so many decades county officials working through the night saying they will bring as a result as soon as humanly possible but at stake 16 electoral college votes i mean thanks very much indeed design to gallacher talking to us about georgia he's talking to us also from miami because he's monitoring it from there and we thank you very much i want to speak now to kristen salue because she's outside the

philadelphia convention center where there have been protests i think between brawl pro bribed and and pro trumpet groups there where do things stand with the vote 1st of all custom. well rob the vote count continues and joe biden is creeping ever closer to donald trump who remains in the lead by less than 115000 points 115000 votes and that's less than 2 percent so we've seen the the margin narrowing dure with most of the remaining ballots left to be counted here in philadelphia and in pittsburgh those are the urban centers of the state which tend to lean heavily democratic which is why democrats are increasingly optimistic that joe biden can and will pull out a victory in the state as you say supporters of both candidates have been on the streets around the convention center here making their voices heard biden supporters
10:12 pm
chanting count every vote supporters of president chomped pointing out that voting closed on november 3rd which of course is true and a bit misleading the vote tally is continuing past november 3rd but only for votes that were cast by november 3rd even mail in ballots while the state will accept ballots that were received after november 3rd in fact until friday they have to be postmarked by november 3rd and that's been upheld by the state supreme court here in pennsylvania but the trump campaign is asking the supreme court to get involved in that now we have a situation here in philadelphia where the campaign sued to have election monitors inside to observe the ballot counting observers from the trump campaign the judge ruled in their favor pennsylvania is appealing that decision and
10:13 pm
not too long ago someone from court lewandowsky a campaign advisor for president held a press conference here in philadelphia saying that they had yet to be granted that access and accusing. democrats of essentially trying to steal this election the governor for his part has accused the republicans of trying to subvert the election process he says let the election workers do what they're supposed to do and count the votes they should be able to do that free of intimidation all of that said right now the vote count is continuing and the secretary of state for pennsylvania does say that she thinks we may have enough votes it's counted by the end of the day to call a winner here in pennsylvania and it's certainly looking to be a very close race christiane thank you very much indeed christen salumi talking to us from outside the philadelphia convention center where the cones are continuing thank you. still ahead on al-jazeera the u.n. calls for an immediate deescalation intentions as ethiopia's prime minister sends

troops into the to gray region. and facing drought while exacting flooding extreme weather in indonesia adds to the trouble of farmers already struggling amid the coronavirus pandemic. hello much of central much of europe i should say is tasty in a bit of early winter in that it feels cold in the morning and cold by the day but weather wise in the words the wind and rain the stuff well that's not really of a central europe it's gone down to the southeast corner and it's particularly showing itself off the coast of portugal the big revolving lazy low produce significant rain i suspect once again portugal focusing on this but it will bring showers up through spain as well and eventually into france but look at the daytime
10:15 pm
temperatures but 12 degrees in bertie it's warming up now this certainly influence in paris and london but the morning is going to be cold in austria as an example in the sun will shine as far south as greece but if you concrete that's a quarter strong and all the wind in fact has been this past metro has been most active recently significant showers all the way now through turkey northern syria probably going to happen the caucasus the backwash wind is quite strong slow moving chassis and likely on the levantine coast but rather more significant rain is likely on the coast of egypt with that strong wind the same is likely to happen eventually i think in morocco and we've seen showers in west africa is fine also is going to be a siren recently there again on friday. my name is matthew castle jewish in america and i support the palestinian struggle
10:16 pm
against occupation when politics came past and my mom saw me at a protest card carrying a palestinian flag she told me i was no longer her son is it possible to be critical of zionism. i do palestinian solidarity or think it's the most jewish thing i can do what about the treatment towards the palestinians and the occupation that it. algis ian a correspondent. for . the watching on his ear a reminder of our top stories this hour the race for the white house is going down to the wire after flipping michigan to wisconsin joe biden now has a projected total of 264 electoral college votes according to the associated press
10:17 pm
. has $214.00 it takes $270.00 to win the election the u.s. president has repeated unsubstantiated claims that there were major problems with voting and ballots county georgia nevada and pennsylvania are just some of the states where votes are still being counted and republicans are filing legal challenges over the election. ok let's talk to brian shafter he's a professor of civic studies at tufts university he's joining us from medford city in massachusetts. we enjoy or who are grateful to you for being with us let's just talk about all this litigation that is going on what is the likelihood that any of it is going to have any impact on the eventual outcome. it's a great question i i doubt there will be any real effect from this litigation on the outcome you know there's of course so many cases being filed and so it's hard
10:18 pm
to keep track of everything that's going on but it just is basically that you know pennsylvania still counting votes right now after the election and that's you know that's that's not a problem that's something that's something they've done in every election going back years and years it's just that this year it happens to be very close so i don't see anything that looks like a case that has much legs in terms of maybe overtrain the outcome but of course you know you never know how much impact is going to have on u.s. voters believe in their democratic process in the united states. that's also a really good question and you know. one of the i think potential issues here is that we have one of the candidates basically constantly talking about fraud and calling the outcome into question and of course you know followers of trump are going to take what he's saying to heart to some extent and they believe it and i think that's maybe the major issue here i think you know if you go back to for
10:19 pm
example the 2000 election which was you know contested for months after the after election day you know you had very different case where you had 2 presidential candidates who were urging you were you know just sort of you know not saying necessarily that anything was fraudulent but you know basically saying we need to count votes wait out the outcome it cetera but in this case you have one of the candidates who's making i think somewhat dangerous comments over twitter and whatnot and you know i do worry that that's that is going to have a lasting impact. on his supporters going forward i'm just seeing on the wires here reuters is reporting that a facebook group pushing a false claim of stolen u.s. election and organizing protests that upon again $3600.00 forgive me 365000 members in a day has been removed by facebook now that's just being reported by voices i'm not saying that and where else but this is part of the concern isn't it with the growth of social media it was inevitable that this kind of thing was going to start
10:20 pm
interfering in the democratic process. yes absolutely i think you know we've seen not even before the election that that trump has you know very very radical following people who tend to be very just distrustful of the media very distrustful of other institutions and are quick to believe conspiracy theories and other and other claims like that it doesn't help that of course trump himself is endorsing a lot of these conspiracy claims and so it's really not surprising to find that there is are a lot of people who are willing to sort of believe in the stuff and show up for example in pennsylvania to protest counting ballots and whatnot and i think you know i think we can also potentially sometimes overhype these things you know if you look at sort of the american population as a whole you know we're talking about probably a fairly small sliver of the population who's you know really upset and believing
10:21 pm
and it looks raj like. that these these claims that the outcome is fraudulent so you know right now i'm mostly seeing that the country is relatively calm about the smoke and i'm actually kind of pleasantly surprised that people are being patient about this you know it's a it's a long week it may be a long couple of weeks but so far you know i'm actually things told i think you know it's actually going not not so poorly when we get to 4 years' time we're getting to another election at that point what is the resting thing we're going to be faced with the same situation again think the candidates may well be different but they that the lack of trust in mail and voting in the counting process is still going to exist and we could be seeing the same sort of thing again how do you really dress that balance. yeah you know certainly something that our politicians and our political system is going to have to grapple with and i think
10:22 pm
you know there one thing i would say is i think a lot of republicans were not particularly happy with trump calling into question mail in ballot and you know republicans have also been benefited from mail and ballots in the past and you know i think it it's you know true for other republicans that are on the ticket i think they might have not you know they would have preferred for him not to have encouraged their followers to only vote in person election day it's a little more risky for them that way so i do think actually republicans will kind of tamp down the rhetoric about mail in voting in the coming years and i think the other thing that hopefully will happen is that states will provide their procedures for counting ballots so you know there are states like florida and texas who have lots and lots of absentee and early votes but they were able to count those that process those and count those before or on election day and have their count totally done by election night there's no reason necessarily that pennsylvania couldn't do that it's just that they happen to have
10:23 pm
a rule that says that they can't start counting absentee ballots until after the polls have closed and that that would be a rule that be easy to change and hopefully a lot of the states that do currently have this rule 'd change that it's really good to catch your thoughts on this brian softness thank you very much indeed for being with us and ologies you know we appreciate it thanks for having me. in other news kosovo's president says he'll resign immediately to face a war crimes trial at the hague he was indicted in june by a special tribunal investigating the 199899 conflict with serbia that she's accused of nearly 100 murders when it was a commander of the kosovo liberation army group he's denied the allegations. as i promised i would not allow the president of the republic of kossovo to go to court that is why to protect the integrity of the presidency of class of of the state of kossovo and the people and respecting the partnership with the international community i am resigning from the post of the president of kossovo
