i wouldn't say had the best reputation for election integrity poll workers in michigan who are duplicating ballots but when our observers attempted to challenge activity those 4 workers jumped in front of the volunteers to block their view so that they couldn't see what they were doing and it became a little bit dangerous when major hub for counting ballots and he joined covered up the windows again with large pieces of cardboard and so they wanted to protect and block the counting area they didn't want anybody seeing the county even though they for observers who were legal observers it was supposed to be there in detroit there were hours of unexplained delay in delivering many of the votes for counting the final batch had not arrive until 4 in the morning and even though the polls close at 8 o'clock so they brought it in and the batches came in and nobody knew where they came from we've also been denied access to observe and critical places in
3:01 am
georgia and multiple swing states counting was halted for hours 'd and hours on election night with the results withheld from major democrat run locations only to appear that later and they suddenly appeared and they all had the name biden and were just about all i think almost all they all had the name but none of which is a little strange i challenge joe and every democrat to clarify that they only want legal votes. because they talk about votes and i think they should use the word legal eagle votes we want every legal vote counted and i want every legal vote counted we want openness and transparency no secret count rooms no mystery ballots no illegal votes being cast after election day you have election day and the laws are very strong and that you have an election day and they don't want votes cast after election day and they want the process to be an honest one it's so important we want an honest election and we want an honest count and we want honest people
3:02 am
working back there because it's a very important job so that's the way this country is going to win that's the way the united states will win and we think we will win the election very easily we think there's going to be a lot of litigation as we have so much evidence so much proof and it's going to end up perhaps at the highest court in the land we'll see but we think they'll be a lot of litigation because we can't have an election stolen by it like this and i tell you i would i have been talking about this for many months with all of you and i've said very strongly that mail in ballots are going to end up being a disaster small elections were disaster small very easy to handle elections were disasters this is a large scale version and it's getting worse and worse every day we're hearing stories that are horror stories absolute horror stories and we can't let that happen to the united states of america it's not
3:03 am
a question of who wins republican democrat joe myself we can't let that happen to our country we can't be disgraced by having something like this happen so it will be hopefully cleared up maybe soon i hope soon but it'll probably go through a process a legal process and as you know i've claimed certain states and he's claiming state so we can both claim the state's but ultimately i have a feeling judges are going to have the rule. but there's been a lot of shenanigans and we can't stand for that in our country thank you very much . ok if you're just joining us we've just been listening in to president donald trump talking at the white house making his 1st statement since election day reinstating that he won the election once again making those are unsubstantiated claims that there been major problems with voting and ballot counting just to quote him he said if you if you count the
3:04 am
legal votes i easily won i've already decisively won without any evidence trump saying that he has been cheated out of the election and saying there will be a lot of litigation to come let's go to our white house correspondent kelly holcomb that has been listening in to that press conference and let's start off with that point he made right the very beginning. about the counting the legal votes if you if we count the legal votes he said i've easily won that's completely untrue isn't it. i'm going to i'm going to beg to differ on that i think it's really important journalist that we not rush to pronounce and make judgments and this is something that feeds into a partisan narrative and we've seen this for peta glee and i've really as a journalist try to avoid it. when you say without evidence that's not true the
3:05 am
white house has been for weeks putting forward evidence whether or not it's reported by the partisan media networks that now exist in that country well that's another matter too in terms of unsubstantiated we did hear the president giving in that very press conference a number of examples so to say that it is unsubstantiated would not be fair and i think as journalists we certainly would like to let our viewers make that pronouncement so let's go through some of what the president had to say with respect to how he is making these allegations that there has been voter fraud that this is a rigged election some of what he's raising he has challenged in the courts and won and you heard the president talking there about how all he's looking for is transparency in order that both a democrat and a republican can watch these votes be counted and he won that that victory in pennsylvania and allowing them to be able to get closer 6 feet away i'm sorry i
3:06 am
can't do the metric conversion right now i think it's roughly 2 meters but the bottom line is is that before it was almost 3 times that it's very hard to be an election observer when you're that far away and you have heard now that in the state of pennsylvania democrats are challenging that so the president is racing the question why would you challenge wanting to see transparency so in that case the president has given a very concrete example of how he feels that he has substantiated the claim that this is potentially a way that could just in some way obscure certain votes or put them in another can't. disfavor another important point that we have to recognize in all of this is as the president was speaking it was noted that a number of american networks decided not to cover the president's press conference this is remarkable that a highly contested election that there are networks that are choosing not to listen
3:07 am
to one of the candidates that is where the president is is valid in his argument that there is a media in the united states in some cases and i would say this is on both sides that is in favor of one camp or the other so again you have to question is this objectivity is this transparency now going through some of this the president as you and i talked to before the president spoke he brought out that the pollsters were wrong and there is a lot of soul searching going on in the united states about how this could possibly happen again that the president is using that again as another example evidence if you will of the points he's trying to make that he has been accused of suppressing the vote in the united states the republicans have been trying to suppress people's right to vote but the fact of the matter is this election in more than 20 years like i'm not a presidential historian but americans have had more time to cast their ballot then
3:08 am
we've ever seen before and in some cases which he's pushing back on he wants to see it the counting stop on election day he's been unsuccessful there because the election officials in many cases are saying look at if this was a legitimate ballot people should have a right to have it counted even if they missed the postmark by a few days that is another partisan issue in the united states but the argument being that because there are so many different systems there is no standardized ation this is the problem that people do not have faith in their voting process one other point i want to bring up that the president talked about again we're talking about transparency it. it is highly questionable why some voting officials might want to put paper over the windows why they might want to make people observe with binoculars obviously this is not going to facilitate seeing a ballot and the president is right when he talks about detroit when he talks about
3:09 am
philadelphia one internet search will show that there has been a history in those cities look past corruption particularly when it comes to city finances and in some cases election elections of police officials except so i am not going to go through all the cases people can do their research but i think as journalists we have to let the facts stand and let americans let the world decide what they want to believe but in terms of putting forward evidence there has been evidence put forward whether or not people think it's plentiful whether or not they accept that evidence that is for our viewers and voters to decide. you make some good points can you help for us in washington no doubt will be speaking to you again will ballot counting in pennsylvania and georgia is still going on and has democratic candidate joe biden closing the gap on trauma that while in the west biden is clinging to a slim lead in nevada in the past come about as biden himself has spoken
3:10 am
and said no doubt he will defeat trump but as patients as the final votes are tallied let's go to our correspondent mike hanna who is in biden's home state of delaware he joins us from will wilmington. so we did hear from biden about an hour or so ago and he set a rather different tone from trump who we've just heard from. well the polar opposite of what we've just heard joe biden making very clear that he wants every vote to be counted the americans cast their votes and have a right to have the pope recorded in the ultimate result saying to that everybody's got to be patient and wait for that result to happen biden to adopting a tone of calm attempting as world to adopt
3:11 am
a turn of unity once again not pointing fingers in any direction just for once again maintaining and even balance as he's been demanding from his campaign not to claim victory despite the fact that most projects since have him ahead but not to get ahead of the fact to wait until all the results are in and counted this is what joe biden had to say beachgoers most be counted. and that's what we're going to see going through now and that's how it should be democracy is sometimes messy it sometimes requires a little patience world but that patience has been rewarded now for more than 240 years the system of government governance and the envy of the world. we continue to feel so you know we continue to feel very good about where things stand we have no doubt that when the count is truly shown in harrison i will be declared the winners so i ask everyone to stay calm all the people to stay calm the process is working.
3:12 am
joe biden as well framing this whole process and i much wider context biden insisting it's not just about this election this election is part of a chain of democracy a concept of democracy that has existed for centuries within this country and must not be seen outside that context by then attempting to play down the bitterness of the partisan divide that has intensified over the past 4 years also are tending to stay away from inflammatory charges such as the fact that illegal votes are being counted or that votes are suddenly being found president earlier ignoring the fact that these are not both sets are simply being found these votes that were delivered according to the laws in any particular state the fact that votes are being counted off of the election date or that some may be arriving after the election date
3:13 am
postmarked before that election is not a question of votes suddenly being found as the president attempts to put it but amongst all of this joe biden very clearly attempting to retain a sense of calm and above all perhaps a sense of dignity at a time with dignity appears to be somewhat absent mike hanna there many thanks. let's get the very latest on the results in pennsylvania passy call hayne is in philadelphia for us has he i believe. 94 percent of the estimated votes has been tallied that pennsylvania could be quite the state to watch out for we could even get a results. relatively soon perhaps talk as to what's happening there. well the secretary of state here in the commonwealth of pennsylvania said that she
3:14 am
does hope that we have a result tonight i want to set the scene for us as to where i am so you understand the music in some of the very colorful costumes that i passed behind me right there in that building that is where they are counting the ballots from this county and what you see i'm going to stop by the way so you can see it a little better we've got a couple of supporters separated by a lot of other people here saying that they want to see every vote counts they've got a sound system i did just see a couple of people in the mailbox in the white house bill who's on their head dancing in the streets and so that's what that's what explains the music behind you they have quite the subsystem so we're waiting for official results from the secretary of state their websites but really slow i think there are so many people going on that because she did a press conference and she said just look at there are those with the movie the numbers but we're getting better numbers from the new york times of the associated press after all they've been doing this quite
3:15 am
a while and according to the associated press u.s. president donald trump now leads to pennsylvania by just 64000 votes that are your time says it's 74000 so what you have seen from election night where he was ahead 570-0000 votes is a steady decline in that number every hour that passes and they said that they are going to be counting late into the night with the hopes that they can get some sort of number here in pennsylvania because again. this is it this is the big prize it doesn't seem possible with the president trying to get another term without pennsylvania it's highly unlikely that the way and joe biden this would be it this would put him way over the 270 he needs to win to be able to say he's won the presidency so this is a big deal the biden campaign feels very confident because they're looking at how many hundreds of thousands of ballots still to come in and each time that they're coming in there have been mostly from these centers that are city centers that tend
3:16 am
to vote democratic and so they're getting between 70 and 80 percent of those votes so just to basic bath but i know journalists not all that good about their would be journalists but it does appear that in pennsylvania joe biden has the edge and his supporters here clearly feel that and they are literally party in the street. like a particle high enough for us in philadelphia with the very latest. of georgia has become the unexpected toss up donald trump with joe biden closing in on his late. than 4000 votes left to be counted and he got to has the latest in the race from georgia. well look georgia is one of those states that not many people thought was even going to be at play in this presidential election but here we are we have seen that state as a republican state for decades the last democratic presidential nominee that won there was bill clinton back in 1902 but as these mail in ballots slowly come in you can see the gap between biden and trump narrowing all the time as those votes come
3:17 am
in and what is important is where those votes are coming from they're coming from counties that tend to lead democratic and with 16 electoral college votes in the state of georgia the stakes really couldn't be higher the gap between these 2 candidates couldn't be narrow and the officials in the state of georgia say they may be counting some of those absentee ballots into friday so a great deal at stake with the state of georgia something no one thought was going to be in play but here we are election workers in georgia say it's unclear how much longer it will take to go through all the ballots we anticipate having the count quote unquote done when the legal deadline for certification is which is going to be 10 days after the election that's when we're done because there are ballots that are still coming in their ballots to be cured is there a balance the provisional is better to be verifying so we can know how long the process will take we don't have clarity on the outcome to these elections as soon as possible however when you have so many important elections being so closely done
3:18 am
is a very relative term at this point we're trying to get all the legal votes counted accurately so we can get the right results and make sure that everybody's vote is reflected properly what to the other states we're watching closely are arizona and nevada rob reynolds joins us live now from los angeles where he's covering those states bring us up to date with those states where are we in terms of the county. well in nevada joe biden's lead over donald trump has increased now to more than 10000 votes the event a secretary of state says 190000 ballots remain to be counted the vast majority of those 90 percent of those in fact come from clark county now clark county is the population center of nevada it's where las vegas is located and several other cities so that is where the majority of these mail in ballots yet to be
3:19 am
counted are coming from and like many other cities around the country as we see in philadelphia georgia detroit. and so forth city dwellers tend to vote democratic so many of these votes are believed to be vice biden votes. the trump campaign has filed the suit to stop the count alleging without much evidence that there are irregularities including ballots being cast on behalf of people who are dead or who have left the state of nevada clark county registrar joe gloria said in a news briefing earlier today he's not aware of any improper ballots being processed nevada has come in for some criticism over the slowness of its counting process but gloria said that speed is not their objective their objective
3:20 am
is accuracy and counting all the legitimate votes many legal analysts have opined that president trumps. legal challenges in many cases lack a lot of merit and another thing to point out here as. andy was just alluding to or as the. pennsylvania election official was alluding to there is a very decentralized system in the united states for counting votes and every state has its own rules for example here in california the votes if there are mail in have to be stamped postmarked stamped received by the end of election day and then it's not until november 17th that the votes can no longer be counted there are similar deadlines in other states now moving on to.
3:21 am
and that's by law those are state laws so that it's not something that's been invented for the election of 2020 moving on to arizona now the where the bow totals are tightening a bit in trump's favor but still as of today trump trails by in arizona by 68000 votes about 88 percent of the votes have been counted but the counting continues we hope to get some new numbers out of arizona later today maybe within an hour or 2 years on as secretary of state katy hobbs says that there are somewhere between 40450000 ballots yet to be tabulated most of those come again from an urban center from the city of phoenix and the surrounding suburbs she says the hobbs says the bulk of those ballots are expected to be counted by the weekend so. the final final vote mean final vote
