raised before the election he said that if he didn't when then that would be because of fraud he talked a great deal about how you felt that mail in ballots were rife for fraud that may come back to bite him simply because it seems that joe biden has surged forward because of the sheer number of mail in ballots many people opting not to go to a polling place on the dia of the election simply because they felt that they may be at risk because of covert so you can see that that is no becoming an issue for him even though his advisers warned him not to go so hard on the fact that ballots may be disqualified there may be an issue with mail in voting so this is going to end up in the courts we're seeing that already just a couple of instances already we've seen in pennsylvania court where they talked about getting observers into the court the judge said look don't you have people in the room isn't there someone from the party there already and they said yes but they felt they weren't close enough. to see the voting the judge threw that one and

then in michigan when they presented evidence of what they said was electoral fraud it was someone told someone who'd had something he said look that's hear see or hear or see that doesn't meet the legal standard that will be the problem for the republicans mentioned for already several times they've mentioned integrity several times but they haven't produced any evidence and they've got to do that not just for the american people but more importantly for the courts and they have to reach a certain standard if they do not do that it will be a problem for them to overturn what we're seeing at the moment a problem to overturn the prospect of joe biden spending the next 4 years in the white house and alan there any allegations of voter fraud obviously also. there were earlier claims by president trying to have won the election while votes were still being counted now one of election observers that say about this. all the organization of american states 1st came to the united states to observe lections back in 2016 and the reason they decided to do it then was because that donald

trump as candidate trump was suggesting that the election would be stolen from him there would be irregularities there would be voter fraud so they sent a team of observers and said they didn't see anything of that of course donald trump has for a very long time said that there was a voter fraud in fact he suggested there were millions of votes cast for him that were counted that he said explain the idea that hillary clinton won 3000000 more votes in the popular vote than he did well joe biden has won about 4000000 this time around the organization of american states sent observers this time they were in some of the key areas such as michigan pennsylvania georgia they said they had all the complaints that donald trump made in advance their observers saw nothing that would substantiate that at this stage there are other observers there as well they will obviously report back in june course but this fresh report from the organization of american states so. there was nothing to see donald trump doesn't believe that that's why there's every possibility that the 2020 presidential

with razor thin margins and there are legitimate questions for example in pennsylvania the authorities are purporting to count the ballots after the day of the election where is the regulations are supposed to be that they have to be received by tuesday and in nevada i would point out that the republican party has checked the national change of address register and so it is i don't know and i let that provide us that was a given me missing in a stare you say that it's important that the process play out but why then did the president declare victory several times while votes was still being counted well because he had very wide margins and i think most people in a normal lection year would think for example in pennsylvania if you were ahead by over 700000 votes which he was at the time that it was a very likely that you'd be the winner let me point out that several networks said

that arizona was going for joe biden and then had to reverse so it's not any different for the president to make a prediction and then have to pull it back just says it's not unusual for the networks to have made mistakes you know are just making predictions is he he's saying that that has been widespread irregularities he's alleging voter fraud he doesn't have any evidence to support his claims. well let me correct you on that that is not true the republican national committee would obtain the names of the national change of address that any organization can do that it's people that have listed themselves as having changed their address they compared it to the no vote nevada voter file and lo and behold so far already 5000 voters have been a den of fighters having change their address from nevada yet are shown to have voted in nevada that is demonstrably evidence of an irregularity and you should. think of me going to mr munisteri forgive me but you i mean you also i was speaking

about a situation in pennsylvania just that and of course you know that because of the now let me address that. you know that because of the cove in $1000.00 pandemic many votes as a large number of votes as of what's a cost that ballots early vote counting is going to be much though because that requires an additional verification process it requies things yes jack and that's not the issue but you a gentleman and i don't know that but you're just saying that the vote counting has been late in pennsylvania no no that's not what i said ma'am what i said was they are counting votes that were received after election day my understanding is the statute is that in order for a vote to count it has to be received by tuesday it's not a question of how fast or slow the vote count is it is what the statute requires i practiced law for 27 years and i'm familiar with election law here you cannot just arbitrarily change the rules after the election that's the complaints of the

republic when and how they all be ferreted. how they are ready changing the rules. their local officials just announced because of covert they were going to extend the deadline the problem with that legally is you don't have authority to do that unless you go to the legislature that's why that is a major irregularity but there are a lot of good and legislatures. pointed out requests from local election officials officials right to pass those new laws to allow extra time for processing and they have said that they are thieves that and they refuse that i mean i am yes ma'am sure and when they refuse it we have a process that if you don't adopt a statute the new than the rule is not changed that went to our u.s. supreme court and the ruling was 4 to 4 so now we have another justice and they can hear the matter again but if the legislature refuses to change the law it doesn't

mean a local official can ignore of the preexisting law so the point is if an exit lane is a point you have to run to the president and face it is lying to that i'm going to war in philadelphia. well remember we have plenty of time to count the electoral college aleck's the president not the national popular vote last time the electoral college didn't meet to december 19th most states take a week to 3 weeks to certify the vote so it's not an issue of not having enough time to count the vote and have the electoral college the issue is are you going to follow the law in that state if you do not want to know what you didn't assessing that involved. this year that that's a key sort of the jetsam and that isn't that's not sorry that's just that's just not true so for example here in texas which was considered a battleground because it was close we had 3 weeks of early voting most states have early voting most states also have mail in addition you can vote on the day of the

the ongoing vote counting we have correspondents monitoring progress in pennsylvania georgia nevada and arizona 1st let's go to patty call in in philadelphia pennsylvania where. just tell us what we're up to right now patty how those. figures have been fluctuating in terms of the strength of biden's lead. exactly well they're still counting all of these hours and days later in the building behind me but they're getting there they are getting there every hour we get a little bit closer view to able to tell you the votes that are supposed to be counted right now have been counted so where we at we are at $14000.00 votes for former vice president joe biden if that was to stay in great razor thin but it would give him the state of pennsylvania how do you know if any chance for the u.s. president to get a 2nd term and all but carry him the white house there are still 112000 votes left to count and that's important because the biden camp looks at the way these melon

boats have been coming in from these very democratic cities like here in philadelphia and the surrounding area and they're breaking 70 to 80 percent for joe biden so if you're in the biden camp right now you expect that $14000.00 vote tally to just continue to go up and up and up as the votes are cast for getting there it's a very small pool now down from millions of votes cast for this election down to a 112 6 1000 now bit of a complication there's a county in pittsburgh allegheny county there were some problems with the ballots so there was a lawsuit $35000.00 of those are being counted today the vast majority of them are at 5 o'clock again those are expected to break for joe biden so not expected to change the overall total total you know it's been interesting here there's been a very small street party for joe biden a few donald trump protests protesters but they've been mostly peaceful but still all of these claims from the u.s. president about corruption happening here in philadelphia is taking its toll will

tear from the mayor of the city the votes will continue to be counted until every valid mail in ballot absentee ballot and provisional ballot is counted so while some including the president continue to spew baseless claims of fraud claims for which his team has not produced one iota of evidence what we have seen here in philadelphia is democracy pure and simple. our founding fathers who could see the system just a 15 minute walk down the street i know would be proud you know i think what the president needs to do is frankly put his big boy pants on he needs to acknowledge the fact that he lost and he needs to congratulate the winner just as jimmy carter did just as george h.w. bush did and frankly just as al gore did and stop this and let us move forward as a country obviously fast even for him great deal about allegations of irregularities and the legal challenges that the campaign is determined to press ahead with. exactly i think it's important to point out what the

previous guest just said about 5000 names in nevada having not live there anymore but voted there there have been study after study after study that cases of voter fraud in this country are exceedingly rare and there's a very good reason for that if you do it and you get caught chances are you're going to prison they take that very seriously in this country so the president has filed a legal challenge is going to make a difference here in pennsylvania quite frankly probably not so what are his supporters talking about what is he talking about he is talking about the state supreme court changed the law here in pennsylvania that said absentee ballots can be mailed in as long as they're received as long as they were mailed by election day they can be received up until right now in about 2 hours time so is that going to change the election of those votes get thrown out because it does look like the supreme court might weigh in now we're talking about $4000.00 votes so even if they

said right now democrats said ok we're going to throw away those votes joe biden would still take the state of pennsylvania but i'm going to make it a little more complicated because it's 2020 and it's the u.s. election so why not we have something called provisional ballots in this country so those are people who showed up maybe they went to the wrong holy place or they forgot their idea if they were required to have one or they asked for an absentee ballot but forgot to bring it back to the to the county clerk when they wanted to cast a ballot so they cast a provisional ballot so what are those well it is it's a ballot but then it goes over here and they don't count it yet there's we think more than 100000 of those so this could and they haven't counted yet so this could mean it goes on a little bit longer but again let's assume and what all the democratic strategists here are saying is the way these numbers are going to break they think joe biden will have like 890200000 part lead if you can if you have 100000 provisional ballots they're not all going for donald trump they're not there just

doesn't seems to just earlier. double to think that that would happen but it does show you the things here are messy that said the counting continues legal actual votes that were cast legally counted behind me and we should hopefully know who won pennsylvania within the hours thank you very much bessie no x. ray much patty calling and then andy gallagher is following the vote count in georgia is setting out from florida so just 16 electoral votes electoral college votes at stake in georgia and we know that the state is headed for a recount because it's such a tiny margin. yeah the margin the last time we spoke was about 1500 favor of joe biden it's now crept up to 1600 but it looks unlikely to reach that point 5 percent threshold and now the secretary of state for georgia is saying

there will be a recount but let's go back in time to choose day election day feels like a long time ago doesn't it but president trump out of 370000 vote lead on that night and then as those postal ballots came in from places like the suburbs of atlanta and savannah that lead was eating away steadily until when i woke up this morning on friday joe biden was in the lead but as one state official there said look the margin here is basically less than the population of a local high school so a recount is highly likely if not definitively going to happen there are also about 4000 votes left to count they are also coming from heavily democratic areas and there are about 9000 overseas ballots from people in the armed forces to be counted but this shouldn't even really be happening georgia has been a republican state for decades the last time a democratic presidential nominee won in that state was bill clinton back in 1992 so 16 electoral college votes at stake and recount happening it may not matter if

pennsylvania nevada and arizona go for joe biden but it is still important george is playing a hugely outsized role in this entire presidential election and by the way there are a couple of senatorial races there are also going to run offs that may have huge implications for who controls the senate in the next 4 years thanks very much thanks so much annie calico with all the latest on the vote count in georgia let's speak to rob reynolds is in los angeles he's following the count in the neighboring states of nevada and arizona where we are now. well in the votto we have joe biden leading by 20000 votes approximately this is a case where biden was ahead at one point 560000 more than 60000 votes initially and then gradually gradually. trump has been chipping away as the votes have been

counted there are approximately 100000 more votes that remain to be counted those are mostly however from the from around maricopa county that's the city of phoenix that's considered. pretty friendly biden territory and from yuma. i'm sorry excuse me i got my state's mixed up. it happens i wanted to say not maricopa county in phoenix i wanted to say clark county and las vegas and so again las vegas considered fairly friendly democratic territory now the trump campaign has filed a lawsuit in the vada seeking to force officials to stop counting what the trump campaign terms improperly cast ballots the about a tourney general whose name is aaron ford dismissed that action saying quote this 6 page complaint filed late last night is in

a word garbage that has 6 electoral votes and we expect another vote tally released over the next couple of hours now let's talk about arizona. joe biden is now ahead in that state by 60000 votes after new vote totals were released earlier today from the county maricopa that includes phoenix there i finally got that county right up 227-0000 ballots remain to be counted these are ballots from cities again like phoenix like flagstaff which is the home to a big university so there's a lot of young people voting. there that could be an advantage to joe biden as well and huma which is a very very heavily latino area of the state will be another batch of votes coming out to be added to the totals at around 6 pm local time or to greenwich mean time the count is expected to extend all the way into the weekend arizona has 11

election just like lots of people we put out a post the monday before and predicted a lot of the uncertainty that we were going to see based on the large number of mail in ballots in the different county procedures in the different states and a lot of those kinds of things are happening for example you saw the rise of hashtags like stop the steel and sharpie gate and lots of. sort of allegations of lost and stolen ballots so these are the kinds of things that we predicted but because of be extended uncertainty those kinds of narratives are building with quote unquote evidence what effect is it having on the country. well i think you know the worst effect that it's having is on the whole democratic process itself and i think this added these added pieces of evidence and these attempts to question the results 'd are fomenting some

discussions of violence online you know fortunately not a lot we track these things in fact we have groups in our election integrity partnership right now that are tracking these kinds of things on a minute by minute basis and there are discussions of that and that's happening fortunately not as much as we're glad to see not as much but these things are it's affecting people's trust in the election how could that translate to. i mean could it go as far as violence possible unrest on the streets i would hope it doesn't but it could we are watching across many different platforms online and there are discussions of violence and people getting together to protest these things we've seen some of the violence at some of these different polling places at some of the places of voting and voting counting so it can lead to that but ultimately the thing that i'm most concerned about. is the erosion of trust and whole process

itself and that's happening with a lot of these different examples i mean in fact there was there's a big push just over the last day 'd of people showing we're data patterns in the vote counts and we show in our post that we're posting out lie life tweets every single day from our project that shows why that's just not the case and it's been used in other elections before so i think just getting people aware of the kinds of techniques that will be used to deal with that in my eyes the votes is the best thing we can do at this point until we get more certainty but that certainty is not going to come you know any time in the next 24 hours. no it seems as though the picture is becoming more and. some confusing bits of information coming out but how is that erosion of trust in the integrity of the democratic system likely to affect the country's political future the way in which people vote perhaps don't vote in the future well it's going to have long i think it will have some kind of long
