well you follow up on the problems with destroyed about 80 percent of this land does al-jazeera has teams on the ground people are just talking about wind and solar is it that's going to solve the problem if want to bring new moon documentaries and life moves on and online. 0. 0 i marianna marzio watching the news hour live from london coming up in the next 60 minutes joe biden inches closer to the white house overtaking president trump in the key states of georgia and pennsylvania but georgia is set for a recount because the gap between the 2 candidates is so narrow. president trump
12:01 am
has vowed to keep up his legal challenges though saying that he will never give up fighting for the nation. act as his supporters continue that protest outside voting centers elsewhere vote very different scene celebrations are broken out in anticipation of a final result. well joe biden is edging closer to that crucial number 270 electoral college votes needed to make him the next president of the united states 3 days after americans voted the democratic candidate has overtaken donald trump in 2 key battleground states pennsylvania and georgia so where do we stand right now there are just a handful of states that are still being counted and biden is leading in most of
12:02 am
them based on projections from the associated press he has secured 264 electoral college votes so far donald trump has 214 and needs both children pennsylvania to reach 270 but it is extremely close in georgia right now most of the remaining votes are from atlanta and its suburbs which tends to lean to the democrats and they've helped joe biden get ahead but it is by a slim margin that might secure him the 60 electoral votes in the election. bot the secretary of state has also said that there is going to be a recount because it's very close this time yesterday trump was leading in georgia by almost 13000 votes he was also ahead in pennsylvania by more than 100000 votes but that's changed as well biden has overtaken him there although his lead has diminished that's biden's leaders shrunk a bit in the past couple of hours but carney counting mail in ballots which are swaying heavily towards the democrats as expected and could potentially hand by in
12:03 am
the states very valuable 20 electoral votes meanwhile in nevada joe biden's lead there is so i it widen the winner of this state will secure a 6 electoral votes in 2016 a president trump lost this state by more than 2 percent another key state where they're still counting is our zona joe biden has a substantial lead the associated press is already projected this state for joe biden which took his electoral college vote count to 264 on wednesday all the house speaker nancy pelosi has been open the indicating that the democrats are expecting a joe biden victory this morning it is clear that the biden harris ticket will win the white house his election is historic propelled by the biggest vote ever in the history of our country 73800000 and counting americans the most both ever received by any presidential ticket in history. but president trump
12:04 am
is still far from ready to concede he's been tweeting saying that i easily won the presidency with the legal votes cast he says the observers were not allowed in any way shape or form to do that job and therefore votes accepted during this period must be determined to be illegal votes u.s. supremes court should decide president trump says meanwhile the republican national committee chairwoman has made a statement also questioning the integrity of the election want to mcdaniel announce that legal teams are on the ground in 4 states following several allegations of voting irregularities we have seen some discrepancies in michigan and some irregularities that deserve investigation democrats and the media spent 4 years and millions of taxpayer dollars talking about a russian hoax on the grounds of election integrity now with just over 48 hours after polls have closed in an actual election for president they want to ignore clear irregularities russia call states as one and the selection we will not stand
12:05 am
for that every candidate in every office from president down to the local level has a legal right to challenge irregularities that occur in the process of canvassing ballots we intend to ensure that every lawful voter has their vote counted in accordance with the law that observers are granted the access they are do under state law and that any irregularities that have occurred whether by malicious attack intent or incompetence are fully investigated to the fully fullest extent allowed under the law let's go live now to alan fisher is following all this from washington and it looks increasingly like likely alan based on these projections and the results that we have the democrats will be back in the white house but the president won't concede if and when that time comes. it's going to take a while simply because you can see that both through mcdaniel and also president
12:06 am
trump are digging in for the long haul with him saying you would go to the supreme court and run a mcdaniel essentially appealing to the president by having a few old favorites the media the rush of hawks talking about transparency i don't trump himself in the last few hours has issued a statement let me try and sum up for you he said that he believes the american people deserve full transparency so that they can see integrity in the entire election process not just this election he said all legal ballots must be counted and he said they're meeting resistance from democrats to do that and then he said they will pursue every aspect through the courts he will never stop fighting for the american people so it's clear he is laying down a marker that he's not going to concede he's going to continue pushing this room we know that the republicans have employed a high level lawyer who's going to try and make sure to coordinate the legal efforts from the republican party in all 4 states it's certainly an issue that he
12:07 am
raised before the election he said that if he didn't when then that would be because of fraud he talked a great deal about how you felt that mail in ballots were rife for fraud that may come back to bite him simply because it seems that joe biden has surged forward because of the sheer number of mail in ballots many people opting not to go to a polling place on the dia of the election simply because they felt that they may be at risk because of covert so you can see that that is no becoming an issue for him even though his advisers warned him not to go so hard on the fact that ballots may be disqualified there may be an issue with mail in voting so this is going to end up in the courts we're seeing that already just a couple of instances already we've seen in pennsylvania court where they talked about getting observers into the court the judge said look don't you have people in the room isn't there someone from the party there already and they said yes but they felt they weren't close enough. to see the voting the judge threw that one and
12:08 am
then in michigan when they presented evidence of what they said was electoral fraud it was someone told someone who'd had something he said look that's hear see or hear or see that doesn't meet the legal standard that will be the problem for the republicans mentioned for already several times they've mentioned integrity several times but they haven't produced any evidence and they've got to do that not just for the american people but more importantly for the courts and they have to reach a certain standard if they do not do that it will be a problem for them to overturn what we're seeing at the moment a problem to overturn the prospect of joe biden spending the next 4 years in the white house and alan there any allegations of voter fraud obviously also. there were earlier claims by president trying to have won the election while votes were still being counted now one of election observers that say about this. all the organization of american states 1st came to the united states to observe lections back in 2016 and the reason they decided to do it then was because that donald
12:09 am
trump as candidate trump was suggesting that the election would be stolen from him there would be irregularities there would be voter fraud so they sent a team of observers and said they didn't see anything of that of course donald trump has for a very long time said that there was a voter fraud in fact he suggested there were millions of votes cast for him that were counted that he said explain the idea that hillary clinton won 3000000 more votes in the popular vote than he did well joe biden has won about 4000000 this time around the organization of american states sent observers this time they were in some of the key areas such as michigan pennsylvania georgia they said they had all the complaints that donald trump made in advance their observers saw nothing that would substantiate that at this stage there are other observers there as well they will obviously report back in june course but this fresh report from the organization of american states so. there was nothing to see donald trump doesn't believe that that's why there's every possibility that the 2020 presidential
12:10 am
election is going to end up in the supreme court. thank you alan fischer in washington. we're hearing that president trump has prematurely declared victory multiple times since election day while same time alleging voter fraud his latest remarks on thursday night have driven a number of republicans to distance themselves from their policies candidate for example jeff flake from a republican senate safira zona cold on republicans to defend u.s. elections and democratic institutions saying no republican should be ok with the president's statement just now maryland's republican governor larry hogan joined the condemnation of the president's comments tweeting there is no defense for the president's comments tonight undermining our democratic process america is counting the votes and we must respect the results as we always have before no election or person is more important than our democracy but leading republican lindsey graham
12:11 am
is standing by the president's democracy depends upon parallel actions president trumps teen is going to have a chance to make a case regarding. voting irregularities they deserve a chance to make that case stand with pros a tribe your democrats are doing this would be cheered on. munisteri is a former deputy assistant to us president donald trump he's also a former chairman of the texas republican party joins us live now from austin. has been clear for a while now that joe biden is likely to be back in the white house but as we've seen those figures in those projections coming in we're hearing more and more allegations about irregularities in voter fraud from the president. well 1st let me point out that tuesday night everybody was saying it looked very good for president trump you have to let the process play out and we have several states
12:12 am
with razor thin margins and there are legitimate questions for example in pennsylvania the authorities are purporting to count the ballots after the day of the election where is the regulations are supposed to be that they have to be received by tuesday and in nevada i would point out that the republican party has checked the national change of address register and so it is i don't know and i let that provide us that was a given me missing in a stare you say that it's important that the process play out but why then did the president declare victory several times while votes was still being counted well because he had very wide margins and i think most people in a normal lection year would think for example in pennsylvania if you were ahead by over 700000 votes which he was at the time that it was a very likely that you'd be the winner let me point out that several networks said
12:13 am
that arizona was going for joe biden and then had to reverse so it's not any different for the president to make a prediction and then have to pull it back just says it's not unusual for the networks to have made mistakes you know are just making predictions is he he's saying that that has been widespread irregularities he's alleging voter fraud he doesn't have any evidence to support his claims. well let me correct you on that that is not true the republican national committee would obtain the names of the national change of address that any organization can do that it's people that have listed themselves as having changed their address they compared it to the no vote nevada voter file and lo and behold so far already 5000 voters have been a den of fighters having change their address from nevada yet are shown to have voted in nevada that is demonstrably evidence of an irregularity and you should. think of me going to mr munisteri forgive me but you i mean you also i was speaking
12:14 am
about a situation in pennsylvania just that and of course you know that because of the now let me address that. you know that because of the cove in $1000.00 pandemic many votes as a large number of votes as of what's a cost that ballots early vote counting is going to be much though because that requires an additional verification process it requies things yes jack and that's not the issue but you a gentleman and i don't know that but you're just saying that the vote counting has been late in pennsylvania no no that's not what i said ma'am what i said was they are counting votes that were received after election day my understanding is the statute is that in order for a vote to count it has to be received by tuesday it's not a question of how fast or slow the vote count is it is what the statute requires i practiced law for 27 years and i'm familiar with election law here you cannot just arbitrarily change the rules after the election that's the complaints of the
12:15 am
republic when and how they all be ferreted. how they are ready changing the rules. their local officials just announced because of covert they were going to extend the deadline the problem with that legally is you don't have authority to do that unless you go to the legislature that's why that is a major irregularity but there are a lot of good and legislatures. pointed out requests from local election officials officials right to pass those new laws to allow extra time for processing and they have said that they are thieves that and they refuse that i mean i am yes ma'am sure and when they refuse it we have a process that if you don't adopt a statute the new than the rule is not changed that went to our u.s. supreme court and the ruling was 4 to 4 so now we have another justice and they can hear the matter again but if the legislature refuses to change the law it doesn't
12:16 am
mean a local official can ignore of the preexisting law so the point is if an exit lane is a point you have to run to the president and face it is lying to that i'm going to war in philadelphia. well remember we have plenty of time to count the electoral college aleck's the president not the national popular vote last time the electoral college didn't meet to december 19th most states take a week to 3 weeks to certify the vote so it's not an issue of not having enough time to count the vote and have the electoral college the issue is are you going to follow the law in that state if you do not want to know what you didn't assessing that involved. this year that that's a key sort of the jetsam and that isn't that's not sorry that's just that's just not true so for example here in texas which was considered a battleground because it was close we had 3 weeks of early voting most states have early voting most states also have mail in addition you can vote on the day of the
12:17 am
election so these are things that we're trying to flesh out and one of the reasons i'm here is to help to explain to the public that there's been a misrepresentation as to what's been going on but there isn't necessarily any early voting doesn't necessarily mean early processing but something told that we might just as the line thank you very much really appreciate you taking the time steve munisteri you're welcome all right thank you so crowds have been building in some cities in the u.s. is democrat side of right what they on to supply to be a victory is opposed to holding daunce policies in the streets of philadelphia and washington meanwhile accounts of protests are also being yelled with republican demonstrators echoing claims of election fraud that made by donald trump and calling for the vote counting to stop. now the cheating they're making bounce. it's a fraud they're clearly cheating to do the clips of dead people voted for they do this every single turn this story we're not putting up with what i want i want the
12:18 am
boat to be counted that that got here 1 november 3rd and nothing further i don't want the ballots that came in november 4th i don't want the ballots that came on november 12th december 1st january 28th january 90 those don't matter because if they matter they were a mere one time. meanwhile supporters of joe biden of said that they have faith in the u.s. electoral system. to me a blue wave saw the senate's doing good. and yeah i'm just really excited to see him next couple of days one season from t. ballots are all counted feeling good i thought it was going to be kind of the landslide but. it just makes us see how the world really is here in our country. our country is so scary that it's so divided it's important that every vote is counted every vote matters makes a difference every vote should be counted absolutely well let's get the latest on
12:19 am
the ongoing vote counting we have correspondents monitoring progress in pennsylvania georgia nevada and arizona 1st let's go to patty call in in philadelphia pennsylvania where. just tell us what we're up to right now patty how those. figures have been fluctuating in terms of the strength of biden's lead. exactly well they're still counting all of these hours and days later in the building behind me but they're getting there they are getting there every hour we get a little bit closer view to able to tell you the votes that are supposed to be counted right now have been counted so where we at we are at $14000.00 votes for former vice president joe biden if that was to stay in great razor thin but it would give him the state of pennsylvania how do you know if any chance for the u.s. president to get a 2nd term and all but carry him the white house there are still 112000 votes left to count and that's important because the biden camp looks at the way these melon
12:20 am
boats have been coming in from these very democratic cities like here in philadelphia and the surrounding area and they're breaking 70 to 80 percent for joe biden so if you're in the biden camp right now you expect that $14000.00 vote tally to just continue to go up and up and up as the votes are cast for getting there it's a very small pool now down from millions of votes cast for this election down to a 112 6 1000 now bit of a complication there's a county in pittsburgh allegheny county there were some problems with the ballots so there was a lawsuit $35000.00 of those are being counted today the vast majority of them are at 5 o'clock again those are expected to break for joe biden so not expected to change the overall total total you know it's been interesting here there's been a very small street party for joe biden a few donald trump protests protesters but they've been mostly peaceful but still all of these claims from the u.s. president about corruption happening here in philadelphia is taking its toll will
12:21 am
tear from the mayor of the city the votes will continue to be counted until every valid mail in ballot absentee ballot and provisional ballot is counted so while some including the president continue to spew baseless claims of fraud claims for which his team has not produced one iota of evidence what we have seen here in philadelphia is democracy pure and simple. our founding fathers who could see the system just a 15 minute walk down the street i know would be proud you know i think what the president needs to do is frankly put his big boy pants on he needs to acknowledge the fact that he lost and he needs to congratulate the winner just as jimmy carter did just as george h.w. bush did and frankly just as al gore did and stop this and let us move forward as a country obviously fast even for him great deal about allegations of irregularities and the legal challenges that the campaign is determined to press ahead with. exactly i think it's important to point out what the
12:22 am
previous guest just said about 5000 names in nevada having not live there anymore but voted there there have been study after study after study that cases of voter fraud in this country are exceedingly rare and there's a very good reason for that if you do it and you get caught chances are you're going to prison they take that very seriously in this country so the president has filed a legal challenge is going to make a difference here in pennsylvania quite frankly probably not so what are his supporters talking about what is he talking about he is talking about the state supreme court changed the law here in pennsylvania that said absentee ballots can be mailed in as long as they're received as long as they were mailed by election day they can be received up until right now in about 2 hours time so is that going to change the election of those votes get thrown out because it does look like the supreme court might weigh in now we're talking about $4000.00 votes so even if they
12:23 am
said right now democrats said ok we're going to throw away those votes joe biden would still take the state of pennsylvania but i'm going to make it a little more complicated because it's 2020 and it's the u.s. election so why not we have something called provisional ballots in this country so those are people who showed up maybe they went to the wrong holy place or they forgot their idea if they were required to have one or they asked for an absentee ballot but forgot to bring it back to the to the county clerk when they wanted to cast a ballot so they cast a provisional ballot so what are those well it is it's a ballot but then it goes over here and they don't count it yet there's we think more than 100000 of those so this could and they haven't counted yet so this could mean it goes on a little bit longer but again let's assume and what all the democratic strategists here are saying is the way these numbers are going to break they think joe biden will have like 890200000 part lead if you can if you have 100000 provisional ballots they're not all going for donald trump they're not there just
12:24 am
doesn't seems to just earlier. double to think that that would happen but it does show you the things here are messy that said the counting continues legal actual votes that were cast legally counted behind me and we should hopefully know who won pennsylvania within the hours thank you very much bessie no x. ray much patty calling and then andy gallagher is following the vote count in georgia is setting out from florida so just 16 electoral votes electoral college votes at stake in georgia and we know that the state is headed for a recount because it's such a tiny margin. yeah the margin the last time we spoke was about 1500 favor of joe biden it's now crept up to 1600 but it looks unlikely to reach that point 5 percent threshold and now the secretary of state for georgia is saying
12:25 am
there will be a recount but let's go back in time to choose day election day feels like a long time ago doesn't it but president trump out of 370000 vote lead on that night and then as those postal ballots came in from places like the suburbs of atlanta and savannah that lead was eating away steadily until when i woke up this morning on friday joe biden was in the lead but as one state official there said look the margin here is basically less than the population of a local high school so a recount is highly likely if not definitively going to happen there are also about 4000 votes left to count they are also coming from heavily democratic areas and there are about 9000 overseas ballots from people in the armed forces to be counted but this shouldn't even really be happening georgia has been a republican state for decades the last time a democratic presidential nominee won in that state was bill clinton back in 1992 so 16 electoral college votes at stake and recount happening it may not matter if
12:26 am
pennsylvania nevada and arizona go for joe biden but it is still important george is playing a hugely outsized role in this entire presidential election and by the way there are a couple of senatorial races there are also going to run offs that may have huge implications for who controls the senate in the next 4 years thanks very much thanks so much annie calico with all the latest on the vote count in georgia let's speak to rob reynolds is in los angeles he's following the count in the neighboring states of nevada and arizona where we are now. well in the votto we have joe biden leading by 20000 votes approximately this is a case where biden was ahead at one point 560000 more than 60000 votes initially and then gradually gradually. trump has been chipping away as the votes have been
12:27 am
counted there are approximately 100000 more votes that remain to be counted those are mostly however from the from around maricopa county that's the city of phoenix that's considered. pretty friendly biden territory and from yuma. i'm sorry excuse me i got my state's mixed up. it happens i wanted to say not maricopa county in phoenix i wanted to say clark county and las vegas and so again las vegas considered fairly friendly democratic territory now the trump campaign has filed a lawsuit in the vada seeking to force officials to stop counting what the trump campaign terms improperly cast ballots the about a tourney general whose name is aaron ford dismissed that action saying quote this 6 page complaint filed late last night is in
12:28 am
a word garbage that has 6 electoral votes and we expect another vote tally released over the next couple of hours now let's talk about arizona. joe biden is now ahead in that state by 60000 votes after new vote totals were released earlier today from the county maricopa that includes phoenix there i finally got that county right up 227-0000 ballots remain to be counted these are ballots from cities again like phoenix like flagstaff which is the home to a big university so there's a lot of young people voting. there that could be an advantage to joe biden as well and huma which is a very very heavily latino area of the state will be another batch of votes coming out to be added to the totals at around 6 pm local time or to greenwich mean time the count is expected to extend all the way into the weekend arizona has 11
12:29 am
electoral votes thank you very much from los angeles. said ahead. joe biden could have voted 50 times as far as we know was 5000 times. making and attempted for all of. these things the allegations are being repeatedly look at the trunk campaigns efforts to cost out on the electoral process . hello once again the bulk of europe is quite unsettled pressure is high that's not true for our beer is a circulation off the coast there and for both portugal and spain it's going to be a wet weekend the rain actually cross the pyrenees and give something in the way of downpours to the cut does your for example but certainly france is looking west wet

in the west everywhere else quiet start though cold and then low teens by day the exception again is going to be the bottom right hand corner of the jane and affect you not part of africa particularly libya where i'm sure a breeze and wet weather and showers have not left portugal if they return during sunday let's go to the bottom right hand side then we've got the rest of saturday to see very windy weather blowing of the bosphorus down the gin affecting greece crete with showers building to pretty big ones on the storms for western side of egypt and a good part of libya east the gulf will see it 2 books forecast specifically this one here when we need for saturday and sunday and even monday start off that way for the south but still in north africa the showers are crept around the corner once again through liberia and beyond and that'll last i think all weekend.

content all through the algorithm on the jersey 0. welcome back an update on what's happening at the moment joe biden continuing to edge closer to that crucial number of 270 electoral college votes that will make him the next president of the united states having overtaken donald trump and to keep battleground states watching very closely the south pennsylvania and georgia based on projections from the associated press biden has secured 264 college votes donald trump is on 214 and needs georgia pennsylvania to reach 270 votes

while crowds have been building in philadelphia and washington as democrats across the u.s. celebrate what they anticipate to be a bike in victory but donald trump and his campaign they are continuing to allege voter fraud accusing the democrats of trying to steal the election republican national committee chairwoman has joined him in questioning the integrity of the vote saying legal teams are on the ground following several allegations of irregularities. was the votes continue to be counted and pulls ahead donald trump and his allies have launched a campaign to cost out on the electoral process and as you saw from the trump supporters who are hearing from they appeared to be working to some extent in the last couple of days trump is personal lawyer rudy giuliani and other members of his team have made a number of allegations of fraud they're going forward they don't want anybody in there their want anybody watching them as they. count the ballots and again imagine it is absolutely no legitimate reason why they would not want to have
12:34 am
people watching this process because of it straight. they would be should be proud of it instead they're trying obviously to. commit fraud joe biden could have voted 50 times as far as we know of 5000 times the ballots could be from camden philadelphia unfortunately and say this about my own city has a reputation for voter fraud you have a reputation with dead people voting and we're going to go look at just how many good people voted here i don't think we have to do that but we will have an west is an associate presser in a vast sea of washington information school he's also the director of the university center for an informed public joins us now from seattle in washington state what is what are your initial thoughts your assessment of the of these allegations well that exactly the allegations that we predicted 90 days before the
12:35 am
election just like lots of people we put out a post the monday before and predicted a lot of the uncertainty that we were going to see based on the large number of mail in ballots in the different county procedures in the different states and a lot of those kinds of things are happening for example you saw the rise of hashtags like stop the steel and sharpie gate and lots of. sort of allegations of lost and stolen ballots so these are the kinds of things that we predicted but because of be extended uncertainty those kinds of narratives are building with quote unquote evidence what effect is it having on the country. well i think you know the worst effect that it's having is on the whole democratic process itself and i think this added these added pieces of evidence and these attempts to question the results 'd are fomenting some
12:36 am
discussions of violence online you know fortunately not a lot we track these things in fact we have groups in our election integrity partnership right now that are tracking these kinds of things on a minute by minute basis and there are discussions of that and that's happening fortunately not as much as we're glad to see not as much but these things are it's affecting people's trust in the election how could that translate to. i mean could it go as far as violence possible unrest on the streets i would hope it doesn't but it could we are watching across many different platforms online and there are discussions of violence and people getting together to protest these things we've seen some of the violence at some of these different polling places at some of the places of voting and voting counting so it can lead to that but ultimately the thing that i'm most concerned about. is the erosion of trust and whole process
12:37 am
itself and that's happening with a lot of these different examples i mean in fact there was there's a big push just over the last day 'd of people showing we're data patterns in the vote counts and we show in our post that we're posting out lie life tweets every single day from our project that shows why that's just not the case and it's been used in other elections before so i think just getting people aware of the kinds of techniques that will be used to deal with that in my eyes the votes is the best thing we can do at this point until we get more certainty but that certainty is not going to come you know any time in the next 24 hours. no it seems as though the picture is becoming more and. some confusing bits of information coming out but how is that erosion of trust in the integrity of the democratic system likely to affect the country's political future the way in which people vote perhaps don't vote in the future well it's going to have long i think it will have some kind of long
12:38 am
term effect i mean people will stand in line for an hour they'll take a day off of work to go boat and to do that tells me that they have some trust in the process and in in the whole infrastructure of voting in the democratic process and so if there are questions about why will someone trust that they think it's going to be rigged anyway so if i could fit it can have long term. negative impacts i think one of the most important things for whatever president takes over needs to really address this particular issue for sure thanks very much jevon west thank you for your thoughts on this part the story it's really interesting well thanks so much for having not heard from joe biden since his appeal for calm and patience on thursday but he is g. to address the nation later on to mohnish al joins us live from outside biden's had courses in his hometown of wilmington delaware and i suppose the biden camp will be

very much hoping that this will be a declaration of victory. his supporters for sure as well as obviously millions of people around the country are waiting for some sort of closure after what has been seen as a very tense not necessarily the longest in terms of election counts but definitely one of the more tense election counts that many of them will remember one of the interesting things marion is that throughout this campaign the biden campaign had been issuing galatz press releases and briefings to the media roughly on the top of every hour today on friday we've only had one i believe and i guess that is in anticipation to maybe gearing up to wrap this all up whether that it will be done in this speech by biden in the next few hours or maybe sometime on saturday but definitely seems that they very much believe that they are within touching distance of finally announcing him as the next president of the united

states of america you look at all the other movement that we've been speaking about you know the increased security from the secret service you look at the other kind of movements here with the kind of stage still set up and a lot of the supporters coming the decorations and celebration or celebrate through the atmosphere that is slowly building up here we would assume it is only imminent obviously. it's not just about him declaring it as we've been hearing and reporting throughout there is the contentions that are being lodged by donald trump there is the doubt and skepticism that continues to be. poured on to this election by the trump campaign so how biden will address that is going to be very telling we've seen glimpses of glimpses of that with his messages of calm with his insistence that this is a democratic process that must be respected with his rejection you've heard directly from him or by the campaign spokespeople of the accusations that have come
12:41 am
from trampas not just basis for something that is. detrimental to the standing of the united states internationally but also through the democratic process here but practically speaking what's he going to do to be able to reach out to a lot of angry trump supporters and there are a lot of them maybe not here in delaware but in other places in the u.s. some of them potentially dangerous we've seen them with there are guns and so forth how he's going to be able to reach out to them will wait and see. and one thing that we've heard one message that we've heard from joe biden is the importance of unity as you say bringing people together that's going to be very difficult if prices on with these with these legal challenges as he is expected to do he is not going to be conceding defeat when that time comes and. it's not clear whether we're going to see a peaceful transfer of power. i mean if the

issue was limited to the courts as it was back in 2000 for example between bush and al gore then maybe the division would simply be an ideological one to the point where people were just backing 2 different candidates right but what is concerning many people including those in the biden campaign is that it's not limited to the ports when there are accusations of the voter fraud when there is loaded terminology used about trying to steal an election when there is those accusations as well as. encouragement essentially or at least maybe a more charge kind of approach to mobilizing people that's where the problem arises especially when this comes off the back of 4 years of extreme polarize ation in the open which maybe wasn't very evident in the u.s. before and when you've seen the things that have erupted throughout the past couple of years particularly police brutality the in the mccray system that exists there
12:43 am
and what's impact that's had on the way in which trump has treated it when you look at for example. the conspiracy theories that we're surrounded with their covert virus and what trump like to use or call the china virus and all of these different things that's where there's a danger this is where there is maybe the biggest challenge for the next president is that this has become evident that there is that the bridge and it has become evident that's an election is not going to hear all that's division by any means miraculous news bring people together but one of the 1st power mount things maybe it should be a skill it would be charge that situation and that is something that biden himself has acknowledged and many are expecting him to address and tonight's address most likely. definitely in the next coming days right thanks very much from wilmington delaware we're expecting to get a speech from former vice president joe biden and his running mate senator. just a couple of other things from mind of americans not just voting for the next

united states has seen another record jump in corona virus infections some 3 days after the presidential election widespread testing is confirmed more than 120000 cases on thursday breaking the record set just the day before the country is also reported 1200 deaths linked to the virus taking the overall death toll 223-5000 number of new daily cases in the u.s. has risen by 50000 in less than a week france is reporting
12:47 am
a new daily record of more than 60000 coronavirus cases in one day and 828 deaths meanwhile here in london 190 people were arrested for breaching the u.k.'s coronavirus restrictions during an annual anti establishment march through the city it was also the 1st day of a national lockdown police say one person could face a $13000.00 fine for that the other $189.00 of being investigated for breaking that 19 regulations. and then the u.k.'s 1st attempt citywide curve in 1000 testing is underway in the city of liverpool every resident has been offered a test regardless of whether they display symptoms or not al-jazeera as john hall has this report now from one of those testing sites. could this be the blueprint for an exit strategy for covert 19 the government in england hope so as the army is drafted in to support mass testing in the city of liverpool it's a pilot we will not get everything right the point of all is to learn from this
12:48 am
learn what works well learn what works less well so we can make improvements to it very excited about it i think it's a fantastic opportunity for the city and i think it's a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate to the rest of the country to the rest of the world how we can help lift with it. turnaround testing technology makes it possible to offer tests to every person regardless of symptoms a self administered swore 1st 100-0000 this is followed by a new lateral flow test that the government has invested many billions in acquiring similar in function to a pregnancy test and there it is notification received on my phone via text message around hour after the test took place your coronavirus test result is negative this is very significant of course the 1st step towards discovering whether the government's wider aim of mass testing the entire population of the country regularly for operation moonshot whether that has
12:49 am
a shot at success regular mass testing means identifying and isolating those infected with the virus at all times even if there asymptomatic while those who haven't got it can go about their business yet i'm hoping that land today that it's negative and that we can go ahead and live our life we're all asymptomatic so we've got no evidence that we have covert but it's the right thing for us to do because the quicker we can get the country tested the quicker we can get back to simple model morality for many the wait on day one was long as systems were set up for a pilot project only announced a few days ago with england in lockdown once again everyone is in a hurry to find a way back to normal life joel al-jazeera liverpool. now some news from india the capital is recorded one of its most polluted days in a year raising fears the toxic air could cause a spike in coronavirus deaths and cases on friday at pollution in parts of new

political motivation of course we've been following developments in the united states this hour as we have for the past couple of days vote vote counting continuing in some key states but it is looking more and more certain that joe biden will win the presidency based on projections in the current results that we do have really all eyes at this hour on pennsylvania where the vote counting continues particularly in the city of philadelphia which traditionally leans towards the democrats but we're also watching georgia very closely biden has taken the lead there in what has always been traditionally a republican stronghold but the margin of difference between them both is so close just a few hundredths of a percentage point that it has been announced is going to be a recount there in georgia also watching nevada and arizona very closely these 2 other southwestern states again joe biden is in the lead but it is
