homes in clinics across the european union reason that's made them i think that you know that the pandemic won't just disappear as of today but the vaccine is the beginning of the victory over the pandemic the vaccine is a game changer we have always known that in today's the 1st day of this new phase millions of doses of the vaccine have been dispatched to massive vaccination centers around the e.u. in the run up to the new year in some places there have been isolated reports of problems with the cooling mechanisms required to keep the bio on tech pfizer vaccines safe but overall in the e.u. institutions there is confidence all of us also gets a hint of we have made sure that in europe itself people get vaccines and we haven't brought that import for europe to make sure that if a vaccine doesn't work that we then have other candidates for it in the german capital the government's aim is to inoculate as many as 5000000 people by next april this is another of the mass vaccination centers the former airport in temple

vaccinations that you've mentioned the government says that about 250000 israelis have been vaccinated or over the past week and prime minister netanyahu said yesterday that they're hoping to reach about $150.00 vaccinations per day he also said that he spoke to madonna and 5 there and asked them to meet that demand so we'll just have to wait and see if those doses arrive and when bill arrives. meanwhile south korea is saying it will maintain its current coronavirus restrictions for another 6 days as new daily cases remain at new record levels around a 1000 new infections are being reported every day health officials have called for measures around the capital to be tightened with the majority of cases being confirmed in the greatest soul area gatherings of more than 4 people will remain banned nationwide until at least january 3rd ski resorts and other terrorist plots will also remain closed through the busy new year period well the recriminations
12:19 am
have begun in the united states often millions of americans to all their unemployment benefits expire at midnight the payments to around 14000000 people stopped after president onil trump refused to sign a pandemic relief bill into law by part sense to me this package agreed by congress earlier this week would have extended the funds until the month of march but trump called the bill it describes this and said he wants to see stimulus checks increase from $600.00 to 2000 so let's go to jordan she joins us live from washington so congress has obviously taken some time to agree on this code relief package president trump refusing to sign it what happens next. well essentially basically congress is going to have to come back on monday and start trying to figure out how to get some sort of stimulus payment to americans who have been affected economically because of the pandemic the house of representatives is supposed to try to take up standalone $2000.00 per adult measure
12:20 am
on monday but it's not clear one how much it will take to pass that legislation and to whether the colleagues in the u.s. senate are willing to take it up because it comes down to a party line split republicans think that this is too much money they say that the $600.00 that was agreed to in the bill that is sitting on the president's desk at his home in florida is how much money should be apportioned but congressional democrats say that the $2000.00 is badly needed money there is bipartisan agreement however that donald trump the u.s. president is making a big mistake by not signing this legislation because the economic pain for americans is very real this is one of the republican senators who is telling the president that he needs to get all with that senator pat toomey of pennsylvania
12:21 am
because you don't get everything you want even if you're the president of the united states we have 2 legislative bodies and democrats control one republican see other look if they were just the freestanding government funding bill i would almost certainly be voting against that but i think that covert relief measures are really really important and you know in my state as in many other states we have governors who are closing down businesses again people are out of work certainly through no fault of their own i think we need the extended unemployment benefits i think we need another round of the p.p.p. loans which are really grants to small businesses to keep their workforce. and as have been much of a response from president elect joe biden well we saw the statement coming from the president elect on saturday which he accused the president of abdicating his responsibility to sign this 900000000000 dollar a covert relief bill now we are expecting to hear from the president elect on
12:22 am
monday afternoon at his home in wilmington delaware he's holding a meeting with experts from his national security and foreign policy teams and then exact spectate to address reporters it's likely although not confirmed that joe biden will have more to say about the economic pain that people are experiencing because of the pandemic related business closures and stay at home orders that have been taking place now for more than 9 months in this country thank you very much from washington rosen jordan christmas has laid back the scale of hunger among americans because of the coronavirus pandemic situation made worse by the president's refusal to sign a covert relief bill we were just hearing about there to give you an idea of what's happening in the 1st week of this month more than one in 10 u.s. adults said the household had not had enough to eat in the previous 7 days in the
12:23 am
state of arkansas it was nearly one in 5 that number of people living with food insecurity has doubled since last year we the highest number since records 1st began more than 20 years ago over the course of this year its estimates of a system 8 that one in 4 children in the united states that's 74000000 will not have had enough to eat the country's largest network of food banks has a staggering 8000000000 more meals are needed on american tables next year to stave off hunger mary matalin is a community organizer for food security and the co-founder of project restore she joins us via skype from cambridge massachusetts. can you give us an idea of why food insecurity is getting worse in the country. it's gotten so much worse because as you know a lot of a lot of folks are losing their jobs they're losing their housing and the 1st thing to go they eat your meals we actually hear that directly from
12:24 am
a lot of our recipients and the need has at least doubled in massachusetts. as you say people are struggling to pay their rent in some cases that losing their home to pay the bills and it's affecting the housing as well and food is very easy to cut back on but what have you what have you been seeing among the people that you've been in contact with the people that you've been speaking to. it's been you know we're right in front of these folks every day in terms of delivering the food and just to give you one addict as you're delivering food actually right the same time as an ambulance who is taking someone away. because of a code infection so what we're seeing is a lot of folks are being laid off and that means that the they won't be buying food they'll come back on their heels as as you mentioned the statistics. and i suppose if you're helping people who've lost their homes in some cases they might have that
12:25 am
funds disconnected they might not have access to a phone and so then they're not able to contact it makes it that much more difficult to seek help. absolutely and that's why we that's why we rely on community organizations that have been around for decades and usually aid groups which are often the best position to actually know who in their community needs help. you have things like neighbors calling in and noticing that you know they're their neighbors that support or their family members that support and this is really just the bare minimum in terms of place the safety net it's a strong safety net but really the government should be doing a lot of this yet is strong safety net but it's driven largely by the community as you say it's not an official social safety net that's in place so the people that you know helping the people that basically falling through the cracks they've been abandoned. absolutely absolutely and a big part of it
12:26 am
a big correlate is actually immigration status because a lot of folks in one group that we supported 3 quarters of these folks were undocumented and that means they can't access unemployment benefits they can't access health care in the same way it's just a lot more tenuous in terms of their day to day and it's it's quite frightening and you know i'm grateful that we have a lot of community support to try to figure it out but it shouldn't have to be this way and if on documented people have at least likely to access it i guess that means that the official figures we have on food insecurity a number of people struggling to get something to eat in the country are. not entirely accurate because very many people that white be taken into account because they're invisible to public bodies 100 percent and you will see that you talk to any public health professional that with their pandemic you before the pandemic with president trump folks stop reaching out to their doctors because they were
12:27 am
afraid of surveillance related to that that would compromise their ability since country so that's only gotten worse if the pens emmet you can imagine as they try to seek help health care. and seek food they won't be reaching out and that's where many organizations are incredibly important oh thank you very much all the best with your marine and then community organizer after food security and co-founder of the project are still with us. thank you so much. with the news out from london much more still to tell you as a person of interest is named in this is back to the suicide bombing in nashville lisa called a truck broadcasting similar ordeal in a nearby town. if they cannot help us we really don't know. in the depths of the freezing bosnian winter migrants left without shelter a desperate for help. and stuck in the mud on the way to potential goals general explain what's going on hand in. the world.

will storm continues to back to the northwest of here you can see this massive cloud this color which has been sinking this way further south is behind this cold front significantly colder air coming through proper winter weather rock again across the british isles as we go through the next 24 hours or so down into the central mediterranean just about italy and the balkans another nasty little low there that's been producing some very heavy snow fall as well snow will become a little more expansive across the out says we go on into monday some parts could see maybe a meter of snow further north the remnants of better that will dig down with cold northerly winds blasting in across many parts all the way down into france just 10

welcome back you're watching the news out live from london our main stories voters have defied the threat of violence to take part in elections in the central african republic the u.n. says there was a massive turnout and a voter intimidation that did take place in one town the process was still peaceful . people of new also been voting in an election that it's hoped will see the country's 1st democratic transition of our country's former interior minister is the favorite to succeed the current president mahmoud. and the corona virus vaccine rollout has started in the european union with the 1st of the group's 450000000 residents given the chance. medical software head of the queue in italy which is one of the region's worst hit countries. now police in tennessee have shut down a highway near nashville off to stopping a box truck playing audio similar to that which was heard before the explosion that rocked downtown nashville early on christmas day the home and workplace of
12:32 am
a 63 year old man named anthony warner are also being searched on the outskirts of the city one of the main lines of inquiry is to identify what are thought to be human remains found in the wreckage of the burned out motor home friday's blast injured 3 people damaged buildings and hit telephone and internet services across swathes of tennessee let's go to john hendren he's following the story from nashville john what do we know about the truck that's been surrounded. well that truck is a bit of a mystery there are federal and local police all over that scene but their distance a really good ways away from that truck we know that the the driver was detained by police and given the explosion that we had here on friday a whole range of law enforcement agencies is obviously taking great precautions and
12:33 am
there are a few scenarios that they might be worried about one is that perhaps the recording from that truck might have been misreported maybe it wasn't is similar to the bomber here but the other possibility is that this could be a copycat somebody is trying to perform this same thing inspired by the christmas bomber the worst case scenario that law enforcement would be looking at here would be if there were a group of people doing similar kinds of things to what the christmas bomber did. what we know is that this has been going on for hours police have the driver in custody and yet they're not freeing up that truck they're using the robot to inspect it and they have moved a little closer and i believe are taking a look at that truck more closely but what we know is that police haven't decided that this is not a threat. what else are we learning about the investigation. well
12:34 am
that's intriguing police seem to be focusing increasingly on one man is being named as a person of interest not as a subject or a target of the investigation that usually what you call someone who's a suspect but his name is anthony quinn warner he's a 63 year old man living alone apparently in the town of antioch and what attracted police attention was old photos that showed a recreational vehicle that was parked in his backyard. i've looked at the pictures it looks strikingly similar to the one that blew up here on friday and there's other intriguing information he transferred the deed of his home to a woman in california with whom he had previous had previously had some connection so there is suspicion arriving out of this in of course remember that we have reported previously that human remains were potentially found on the scene they
12:35 am
have to test them and make sure they're human remains and then they want to see if those might belong to a bomber but that seems to be the police suspicion that someone committed suicide in that truck because they have been they've said that there have been no casualties among the civilian population we heard a little earlier today from some of the officers who responded to that scene and micheline responding to reports of the shooting this is what one of the officers had to say upon arriving there. r.v.'s started making an announcement somewhere along the lines don't quote me exactly but it's there's a large bomb within this vehicle your primary objective is to evacuate i wasn't quite sure what i heard so i looked at officer posey just verify we heard same thing and then it started over at that time i called and notified sergeant miller he said get everyone you can out there i requested all units available from
12:36 am
all precinct to come. i'll never forget the window shattering after the blast all around me. it kind of looked like a big prop from a movie seeing all the glass breaking at once you know it hit me all over. but just being able to hold them and grab him and the 1st thing i could do is you could hear anybody at 1st it scared the heck out of me that. you know just for 2030 there's been a explosion and said multiple medics so i didn't know what we had and i was so scared that i just lost my entire detail. that testimony or that that a press conference often got emotional as officers choked up recalling this event describing it like a scene out of a movie and in in some cases being knocked to the ground so that investigation continues focusing on the perfect person of interest but we've also had some other
12:37 am
news coming in that box truck has been inspected and found by the rutherford county police department not to have contained explosives and it does look like that scene is clearing up now all right thank you very much from nashville tennessee john hendren. around the wild 23 goals under the age of 18 on married every minute in the crowd a virus pandemic is causing that right to rise the un says up to 13000000 girls might be forced into marriage over the next 10 years we spoke to dollar a teenage activist from bangladesh which has the highest child marriage rate in the wild she and her colleagues have stopped more than $600.00 marriages over the past 2 years. hi and. basically. among them. how was your childhood and what is
