non-school followers surrounded and stormed the building as they were beginning their debate to certify by means election victory the national guard the f.b.i. and other branches of police moved in they moved the crowd away from the capitol building and they're now declaring that the area is secure meanwhile u.s. president elect joe biden has called what some folded today on capitol hill an assault on democracy at this hour our democracy is under unprecedented assault unlike anything we see in modern times. and the soul the citadel of liberty the capital self an assault on the people's representatives in the capitol hill police sworn to protect the public servants who work

at the heart of our republic and assault on the rule of law like few times we've ever seen. an assault on most say kurt of america not undertake it's the doing of the people's business the may be very clear the scenes of chaos in the capital do not reflect a true american do not represent who we are while shortly after that present donald trump released a video on twitter of repeating that you know without evidence once again that allegations the allegations that he's made of electoral fraud any also called on his supporters to go home i know your pain i know you're hurt we had an election that was stolen from us it was a landslide election and everyone knows it especially the other side but you have

to go home now we have to have peace we have to have law and order we have to respect our great. people of law and order we don't want anybody hurt it's a very tough period of time there's never been a time like this where such a thing happened where they could take it away from all of us from me from you from our country this was a fraudulent election but we can't play into the hands of these people we have to have peace so go home we love you you're very special you've seen what happens you see the way others are treated that are so bad and so evil i know how you feel but go home and go home and peace on that message was about 2 hours or so ago let's get an update on the situation outside capitol hill with gaven in sum to who's there for us. what's the scene like right now.

well security has been brought back to the capitol building in the entire complex here there have been bus loads of national guards troops that have been brought here in the last hour that have taken up position around the capitol there is also the capitol police that are here as well securing the situation as well as the metropolitan police department of washington d.c. everybody has been here now and they are basically securing the capitol because. lawmakers congress people representatives and senators are planning to come back here to the capitol this evening to get on with the capital's business and what is that that is the certification of the electoral college votes that they were doing

when every all of this began is to mulch a situation in the trump supporters stormed the capitol breached security and got in those crazy scenes that we've been seeing throughout the evening here but as of right now 7 pm local time here in washington d.c. we're now one hour in to a citywide curfew and i can report that the capital city the capital scene now and the capitol building has been completely secured what about the areas not far from the capitol building some of the pictures that we've been seeing showing us riot police what looks like riot police perhaps still outside in position it would seem do you do you have a sense of how many all of the present supporters are still out on the streets at this hour an hour after the curfew ticket. it's really hard to say quite frankly but i can tell you. there were tens of

thousands of supporters that were here for the protest and for the events that they had throughout the throughout the day and once they left the capital those that came here anyway they had to go somewhere and they're either going back to their hotels or going back to wherever they came from so there are certainly still people in this city but for the most part the streets appear to be quiet but tense very tense and that's why you're seeing still seeing images of lots of police on the streets even outside the capital area because again there is a curfew that is in effect but it does not appear we see any sort of. to mall to a situations or any sort of rioting or anything like that that we know of right now throughout the city it's a very tense mood throughout the nation's capital right now after this day that everybody is still trying to to to figure out what actually happened and i will say

that there will be a lot of discussions on how this was allowed to happen here in the capitol building and one woman actually died which is you know something really shocking a woman who was injured died is there any more information about the other injuries that were sustained by some of the lease inside the capitol building according to the simpsons. that is a good point there yes one woman we believe that she was a trump supporter part of the protest that was that was one of the people that stormed the capital was shot wounded in the capitol police or the metropolitan police of d.c. did confirm just recently that she did sustain life threatening injuries and she did die at the hospital there were several capitol police that have also been

injured. the extent of their injury we're not quite sure yet there were some journalist as well that were injured when some journalists were. not too far from standing right here during the tense moments were attacked by some supporters as well many of the journalists had to take cover so there were some injuries but obviously the one death is is now confirmed at this hour the house speaker nancy pelosi saying that they're hoping to resume their session. today once a building has been secured do you think do you anticipate that will happen today that they'll be able to resume debate on side to find biden today. if they want to yes and nancy pelosi has said she is waiting for. the justice department for the f.b.i. and for the capitol police to give her the ok that she can summons back to

congress people back here to the capitol so they can carry on with their work throughout the evening as they had planned. what we're seeing here right now is an incredibly intense police presence here by federal and and district officials and what they are doing is they are securing the capitol right now as soon as they say it is secure enough for v.i.p.'s such as lawmakers to come back we expect they will start coming back many of them. out of here of course during the time when the security was breached here at the capitol but based on what we're seeing all is peaceful security has been restored here in the capitol grounds it's just a matter of what the officials here are giving the all clear for lawmakers to come back in. di democratic lawmaker chuck schumer is saying at this hour

according to the wise in us media reports said they're planning to resume. college count at 8 pm eastern standard time which is about an hour from now gable check in with you once again a little later earlier i spoke to democratic congressman. he was escorted to a secure location along with other members of congress when president trump supporters foresee a way into the building here is how the situation unfolded according to. from the very beginning of the day we saw people gathering and unfortunately not enough security around but as the debate began on the process to that debate the results of the electoral college. trump protesters chose to interrupt the process and stormed the capitol building and so

we're there here the process will continue this is a stay nation of laws with strong democratic institutions and we will proceed with the process and we will have a result and inauguration or on january 20 riot police have been deployed and the f.b.i. has been deployed in the capitol grounds and i am beginning to see the dispersement of the folks that were out there but there's still. plenty of them so i suspect that he will be a while before they're completely dispersed and where we'll be able to proceed with our proceedings i think there's a greater resolve now more than ever to proceed with our constitutional duties i've asked lawmakers to abide by the rules established within the constitution of the united states and to protect. and protect and preserve our nation from

all enemies foreign and domestic and many of the ones the showed up at the capitol today were enemies of our democracy we are supportive of up democracy we are supporters of dissent and protest but we don't support. violence we don't support vandalism we don't support assault or intimidation so we will proceed and will count those votes i don't think that the the folks that came here to date i reflection of the vast majority of the american people i think that there are small group a small fraiche group violent intolerant perhaps racist at their core that refuse to accept the reality that manifested itself last night in the state of georgia or last november across these united states president elect joe

a protest this is an insurrection and those who are taking part in it he said were extremists in their actions he described as bordering on sedition after his remarks joe biden was asked is he afraid is he worried about his inauguration. nor and most of the other questions but he stopped to answer that one in and said that he wasn't concerned about his own security wasn't concerned about the inauguration that american people and had enough in american people would stand up he said enough is enough and it will be quite a healing process moving forward that the president elect will have to contend with when he takes office in just over a week. live pictures from washington d.c. once again where as you can see police security forces are still out on the streets an hour after the curfew came into effect to try and bring back our to the nation's

capital when president supporters storm the capitol building earlier the president as you'll recall issued a statement on twitter calling on his supporters to go home. but at the same time telling them that he understood them then that he loved them that they were special so mixed messages said not twitter has said that future violations of its rules would lead to the permanent suspension of president trump's account. so twitter saying that. you know the president's tweets today violated its rules including its civic integrity or violent threats policies and that if this continues this will result in the permanent suspension of the the real donald trump's accounts the account of the us president donald trump quite significant. reaction in a message from twitter threatening to permanently suspend the account of president

because of some of the messages he's been posting while world leaders have responded with disbelief really to what's been happening in washington d.c. and the rest on capitol hill british prime minister boris johnson described the scenes as disgraceful adding that the u.s. stands for democracy around the world and that it's now vital that there should be a peaceful and orderly transfer of power germany's foreign minister. supporters must accept the decision of american voters at last and stop playing on democracy and nato secretary general against altenburg described the events as shocking and said the outcome of the u.s. election must be respected and speak once again to p.j. crowley a former. state department official joining us once again on. with the breaking news coverage from washington lots of reactions from world leaders reaction that we would normally see from washington d.c.

to the president that this is now over you know the process is completed and joe biden is a back going to be you know the next president of states i think that statement will be an order and then i'll be interested to see you know president trump of the last 2 months says as presented this election. actually was. and yes you're right he can still do so busy so so challenging things up next 2 weeks. i'm inclined to think that it may well be that he just simply receives from you and will let you go to washington doesn't do that i mean. my congressman. talking about impeachment again talking about the 25th amendment did he think that trump should be kicked out of office. well i. i

think that if he truly believes that election was stolen years back. you know go to continue it offers you know impeachment to say it's a very blunt instrument i don't think the capital orginally will have the courage to actually cyrus the 20 for them and so he just out to survive you know the next 2 we. don't trump will have to come to grips with the fact that there is no longer a process that can help him overturn the result in fact biden is going to be president in 2 weeks so we just have to survive the next 2 weeks you say it is quite astonishing to hear that i mean the united states is of course a beacon of democracy has been seen as a beacon of democracy around the world and today you have well condemning what is happening in the united states comparing this to 2 cools that would happen in you know what have been described as banana republics and so on there's even i'm

looking at social media here and the satirical side the audience saying that serbia wants to deploy too so the us i mean it is quite incredible isn't it that we're witnessing all of this today what does it say about american democracy is is this the demise of american democracy. well it is certainly obvious to sions our democracy here in america are more fragile than we thought of we've lost some of the resilience that allowed us to have robust debates come together after difficult elections but now you do have 2 parties that are being told about was that direction and we're going to have to recreate if we can a political center that's where joe biden wants to operate 'd. but what i think it comes back to how do we react to what is and i think everyone is shocked and stunned here in this country and across what they are seen today you know now the

question is whether the process doesn't crack reach its final conclusion how much do you see more statesmanship by members of the president's own party young capitol hill or been unable or stuck to this point from those around him you know 'd including in you know those that control law enforcement the military and so court that made it clear to the president that the kind of antics that we saw earlier today or even literally encouraged or is a charge will. they now say you know cease and desist 'd and this is what we're going to need if we're going to have be able to recover from where we find ourselves at this moment the techie. news agency and a den new saying turkey is inviting all parties in the u.s. use moderation common sense to overcome this domestic political crisis it is quite a day when when you know countries like turkey or others even advise the u.s.

on democratic principles. countries like russia also the u.s. is pissy of denim ease what would they be making of this this is something that they could be taking advantage off couldn't there. well this is this this to go out or approaching this yet another gift donald trump has given him a great deal that for years. you know he entered iraq intervened in the 2016 election at a relatively small amount and received. a great deal of aid back so you know. 'd blatter couldn't doesn't have to actively undermine american democracy we're doing it to ourselves and i think this is what everyone has to step back and not only recognize you know we're in danger here but understand what this means in terms of how the united states is presenting itself around the world we've got a great deal of work to do for immediate statesmanship by both republicans and

democrats and we'll see if will or they are better and out of our leaders of course we're hoping for a return to some normalcy when when biden takes office sign in january 20th a lot of them congratulated him. and he's of course promised to bring back the u.s. on to the world stage bring it back into the multilateral system. but there are so many things to deal with at home right now so many domestic issues that he has to address for one of them the priority i guess being for uniting this deeply divided country today is it going to be time to really focus on what's happening outside. well that is a challenge no question that we we have to find a way to govern ourselves as we have in the past. if there's a silver lining perhaps here it is that we we do exist at the moment in the midst of a global pandemic that is also going to be

a number one policy priority for the biden ministration and a pandemic not only allows the government to show what it can do domestically it and it encourages. united states to be more cooperative or to together with other countries around the coral and helping to distribute and administer the vaccine to other populations because we have to recognize that or all in this together we're not going to be stapled to world a state and so you know there is a challenge as to whether we can make government more effective than it is at the moment on the other hand there is this opportunity because everyone recognizes the crisis that we're in that we can increase international cooperation start to gain momentum on the code of front and that may help us in terms of showing that government can be successful when it has proper leadership he cannae so very good

invade the u.s. capitol to prevent him from being ousted we know he know to date the 2nd that he's out of the white house he's in very much legal jeopardy i think that is probably one of the large explanations for why he has encouraged these people but for the president of the united states to encourage this kind of attack on the symbol of the united states government. on one hand it's horrifying on the other hand he sat by when the same thing happened in the state of michigan months ago and and he almost routed on the attackers there so it's it is almost moved to tears i don't want to do it cause i don't want to embarrass myself on your air but it's that frightening i work in that building i've worked around it for many years this security is actually not as much as you think it would be. but fact that we knew this rally was coming it was a slap pretty shocking. after president trump said that video

where he called on his supporters to go home but in the same time was telling them that he understood he understood them that the election was stolen from them while twitter removed the video and it did for the same for several other trumps with the day to day and now a social media fund platform has in fact decided to block the u.s. president's account for 12 hours it's the 1st time that twitter a space a suspension on president trumps account and it's warned that if the president continues to violate its rules it could pare minutely suspend his account so twitter has knocked president trump's account for 12 hours and has warned that he could get kicked off the social media site permanently this is a statement issued by twitter blocking once again knocking president trump's account for 12 hours in warning that he would be kicked off permanently if he continued to

violate his rules i also spoke to derek primarily as a former director of african-american media affairs for the democratic national committee and he says that the actions of follow is a disgraceful. i protested on the grounds of the u.s. capitol peaceful protests i've worked at the u.s. capitol i worked at the democratic national committee which is around the corner i've never seen anything like this and it is describes what it is shameful what the president of the united states has fomented in in the form of donald trump he lost a fair and free election he made it very clear that he was not going to go quietly into the night and what we are seeing is what we see when we don't have law and we don't have a functioning democracy and what i would say is that what this moment shows us and

tells us that democracy is so fragile even with the united states that it's fragile . and it depends upon people of goodwill doing the right thing and we've said this so many of us have said this for many years that donald trump. was morally inept he was corrupt he did not believe in our democracy nor in the will of the people and what we're seeing today is a very clear manifestation of that and it set and the reality is that having worked in the capital having seen protests at the capital peaceful protests of the capital before then the level of force as you see from the capitol police from the national guard is is overwhelming and this is not what you would see what you're seeing today there's no way that. these were black protesters they would have been able to storm the capital we were seeing tear gas and we're seeing a whole bunch of different mechanisms being brought out there are rumors that

speaker pelosi and the mayor of d.c. have called on deal d. to actually have the national guard come in and initial requests were rejected i can't. i can't see that but it's very very troubling it's very troubling what we're seeing red. s. are the latest live pictures that we're getting from washington d.c. where police are now in full force to have cleared most of president trump supporters who are out on the streets. in front and outside the capitol building curfew is now anything that the media still on. the streets there they were attacks on the media earlier by president supporters a quick mend. thrashed by president trump supporters as you can see from these pictures. a tense situation unfolding in the nation's capitol in the u.s. capitol this wednesday january stakes as the. congress was to
