. there will be no more tweets from donald trump twitter on friday night suspending his account permanently saying the decision was taken due to the risk of further incitement of violence trump had 88000000 followers and said he used his account to go around the mainstream media to get his message out but he was increasingly tweeting or re tweeting misleading or false information sometimes even disproven conspiracy theories this is a very big deal i will say it's had a sense of inevitability remember twitter did temporarily suspend his account back on the 2 days ago when the the violent mob marched on the capitol and they required him to delete 2 tweets and then they reinstated him and he made a few more tweets but if you remember when they said that they said further violations may result in permanent suspension or language to that effect in the halls of congress calls are growing for trump to be impeached

a group of democrats has circulated the draft of the articles of impeachment against trump that is expected to be taken up in the house as soon as monday it accuses trump of high crimes and misdemeanors by inciting an insurrection and says trump has demonstrated he will remain a threat if allowed to stay in office the white house called the articles of impeachment politically motivated and will only further divide america he must be removed from office house speaker nancy pelosi said if trump doesn't resign she'll move forward with impeachment is said to have yet to sign off on the final wording of the impeachment language in a letter to her congressional colleagues on friday called trump unhinged and said she spoke to a top military commander about ensuring trump's access to the nuclear codes was limited in his final days in office so he couldn't launch a nuclear war with only 11 days left in trump's presidency it's unclear if that

will be enough time for congress to vote on impeachment. yet trump is facing the prospect of being the 1st president in u.s. history to be impeached twice in already less a 48 hours we have over $150.00 co-authors of this article of impeachment and that does show i think very strong momentum we also have the fact that multiple people die in this attempted coup and it's something we can't just ignore. the pressure on trump to step down is also gaining steam the latest call comes from republican lisa murkowski a senator from alaska who told a local newspaper that the president is no longer fit to serve out the individual terms on friday president elect joe biden announced the final group of his cabinet secretary picks and said fighting the pandemic in creating jobs remains his top priority when asked if trump should be removed from office he said this i've had

under chappelle's report were absolutely troubling and not just that 1st there were the black close massive process now we're seeing more violence in the capital what are people in washington d.c. making all of this how are they feeling right now. you know i think that it's just settling in if you live in washington d.c. or the surrounding area if you've ever come into the capital or any advice or old buildings you know that it's pretty hard to get in for example on the day that this happened no one was allowed into any of the capitol complex unless they had. a pass to be in here so that the thought that it was so protected has just been shattered and the trauma that people watched play out on television it's still very fresh and very raw and there's still a lot of concern in this town since and i've never seen anything like it but since the b. for before the election pretty much every building in d.c. is boarded up with plywood those didn't come down after joe biden was and they're

letters a breach may have already been drafted the house will likely pass it they only need a simple majority that the democrats have if they keep their caucus together and i don't think i can overstate how angry politicians are about this this is the place where they work they felt threatened so they want to send a message to the president so it's likely to pass the house so then what happens well the set it could take it up immediately if all $100.00 senators agree to do that that seems unlikely so then they could take it up on january 19th or january 20th and if that date is ringing a bell because that's when joe biden becomes president so will they still have an impeachment trial quite possibly yes because. there is precedent that you can still impeach an outgoing elected official and the reason they would do that is if he's impeached they can also cast a vote that says he's barred for ever holding public service again so it definitely will come out of the house whether or not 17 republicans in the senate agree to

impeach him after his out of office well we'll have to wait and see. patsy go here live for us from capitol hill tonight thank you very much indeed let's head across to wilmington delaware where natasha good name joins us now i. will consider this of course joe biden he has been campaigning saying you will see the great unifier to bring the country back together given this is the president elect likely supports a push for the impeachment of his immediate predecessor. president elect joe biden has made it clear that any decision regarding the removal of president trump including impeachment proceedings is a decision for the congress and the congress alone to determine clearly he's trying to remain above the fray however he did say there was no shortage of harsh words
6:13 pm
for president trump he said there's no question that he is not fit or worthy of the office he is one of the most incompetent presidents in american history and he said he says i've been saying this for months but the question is not whether trump should remain in office the question is what should happen between now and the less than 2 weeks before ona gratian day and he says his focus is on getting sworn in and passing immediate relief economic relief to the millions of americans who've been struggling as a result of the pandemic and also to get funding to state and local governments this was not in the previous stimulus relief bill that was just passed to help pay for distribution of the vaccine he says his goal is to get 100000000 shots into the arms of americans in the 1st 100 days he also was asked repeatedly during a news conference on friday about his thoughts about the people who participated in this deadly riot he also had no shortage of choice adjectives for them he said they

6:16 pm
remains how many people still support try no matter how he bypasses norms or breaks the law and so i think the impeachment is not just symbolic although it is also symbolic that there are lines he just can't cross as president of the united states but there also is a worry about the picture and if he were to be impeached then he would not be able to hold that office any office any public office again and i think that that's very much what's driving this even though time is of the essence even though there is so much else for the congress to focus on given code and the need for covert i mean do you think this is perhaps a reason why so many members of the republican party are. reluctant to push ahead with this impeachment. well actually i don't think we know what we don't really know how the republicans do you know we know how the cabinet seems at the cabinet really does not want this president tends to invoke the 20 the

amendment which was another way of removing a president from office but a number of republicans have weighed in saying that they think things should go forward that there needs to be a strong signal sent that this is not republican party each this is not how they want to be remembered in the future as supporting trying i think the big issue as always is mitch mcconnell this impeachment hearing and the trial in the senate could happen very quickly if mitch mcconnell who's the leader of the senate could make it happen but he has indicated in the last 24 hours that he would not be willing to go quite that far by speeding up any kind of trial proceedings but it would be up to him and if he opened the door to it it is doable and it's doable and very quick time i am in tears of how this would affect our trompe wouldn't be allowed to run for public office again but he would still retain his popularity
6:18 pm
among his base pairs are there other material reasons that trump should fear an impeachment for example which he loses the secret service protection would he lose whatever immunity comes with being presidents or former presidents of the united states and are there any financial penalties that he can see that he could face. and so there's a lot of questions that remain unanswered because this would be a 1st president nixon knew that impeachment was going to happen and so he resigned and so how actually this would play out would be something that would have to be determined in the aftermath but that there would be serious consequences of all sorts i doubt that it would extend to not protecting the president afterwards but it would impede his legacy and it would be interesting to see how things like presidential libraries and things like that and monies for that would be affected
6:19 pm
but again this is something that would really have to be worked out after any impeachment happened and so that's something that really needs to be seen but the but the other consequences of it would have to do with his leadership while there is a base there are a number of reports that what happened wednesday really did deter a number of people who had voted for him i mean i wonder if we had the election again if he actually would get the votes he got it's unlikely as i said before there are lines that he crossed that have affected republicans from those in office to those living in their homes across america as fascinating as we continue to see the repercussions of this rift but we're out of time sadly karen greenberg joining us there live from new york thank you very much indeed for your thoughts and your analysis thank you. response more still to come on this news hour including tens of thousands of malaysians are forced from their homes in the country's worst
